Welcome

### **Chapter 14: Morning Comforts**

The morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm, golden glow across the room. Ino stirred beneath the soft sheets, her mind still hazy with sleep. She reached out instinctively, her hand searching for the warmth of Naruto's body beside her.

But the space was empty.

Her eyes fluttered open, and she blinked a few times before realizing he wasn't there. A small pout formed on her lips as she pushed herself up. The cool air caressed her bare skin, reminding her of her state of undress. She looked down at herself, her lacy black bra the only thing covering her otherwise naked body.

"That idiot," she murmured with a playful smile. "Leaving me all alone after a night like that."

Sliding out of bed, Ino stretched, her long, toned legs catching the light as she moved. Her blonde hair cascaded messily down her back, giving her an effortlessly alluring appearance. She grabbed her phone from the nightstand, her curiosity piqued as to where Naruto might be.

She wandered through the house, her bare feet padding softly against the hardwood floors. When she reached his study, the sight before her made her pause.

Naruto was slumped over his desk, his head resting on a book, fast asleep. His hair was tousled, and the faint shadows under his eyes hinted at how long he'd been awake before exhaustion claimed him. The room was filled with the faint scent of paper and ink, a stark contrast to the warmth he exuded.

Ino's lips curved into a mischievous grin. "You're so adorable when you're like this," she whispered, pulling out her phone.

She snapped a few pictures, carefully framing his peaceful expression. *These will make good memories for later,* she thought, giggling softly.

After capturing enough photos, she leaned in and gently shook his shoulder. "Naruto-kun, wake up," she called softly.

When he didn't stir, she tried again, her voice louder this time. "Naruto, Naruto, Naruto!"

Finally, he stirred, lifting his head groggily and blinking against the light. His eyes met hers, and his face immediately turned crimson when he noticed her attire—or lack thereof.

"G-good morning, Ino," he stammered, looking anywhere but at her.

Ino tilted her head, pretending to be oblivious to his embarrassment. "Morning, Naruto-kun!" she chirped. "Why are you sleeping at your desk? You should've stayed in bed with me."

Naruto averted his gaze, his cheeks burning. "C-could you, um, maybe… put something on?"

Ino smirked, crossing her arms in mock indignation. "What's the big deal? It's just us here. Besides," she added with a wink, "you've seen a lot more than this, haven't you?"

Naruto's face turned an even deeper shade of red, and he quickly stood, mumbling something about needing to take a shower.

As he retreated toward the bathroom, Ino watched him go, biting her lip to stifle a laugh. "He's so cute when he's flustered," she murmured to herself.

### **A Breakfast Interrupted**

By the time Naruto emerged from the shower, freshly dressed and with his composure somewhat regained, Ino was seated at the kitchen table, waiting expectantly.

"Breakfast?" she asked with a sweet smile, resting her chin on her hand.

Naruto sighed, knowing there was no way to refuse her. "Fine, but you should really get dressed."

Ino waved him off. "I'm comfortable like this. Now go, chop-chop!"

Shaking his head, Naruto set about preparing breakfast. The smell of eggs and toast soon filled the air, mingling with the aroma of freshly brewed tea. Ino watched him work, her eyes softening as she took in the way he moved around the kitchen.

When the meal was ready, Naruto set the plate down in front of her and sat opposite her.

"Thank you," Ino said, digging in with enthusiasm. After a few bites, she paused, noticing Naruto wasn't eating. "What's wrong? Why aren't you eating?"

Naruto hesitated, his eyes fixed on the table. "I'm not really hungry," he muttered.

Ino frowned, setting her fork down. She could see the sadness in his eyes, the way his shoulders sagged as if carrying an invisible weight. She knew exactly what was bothering him.

The Kage Summit.

The event had been a turning point. Naruto had chosen not to intervene during the chaos that unfolded there, allowing the other Kage to face their struggles alone. His decision had been deliberate, calculated—but it had come at a cost.

The whispers and accusations of his indifference weighed heavily on him. The same people who once praised him as a hero now questioned his character, painting him as cold and unfeeling.

Ino's heart ached for him. She hated seeing him like this, lost in the shadows of his own mind.

Without a word, she stood and walked around the table. Naruto looked up in surprise as she slid onto his lap, straddling him.

"Ino!" he exclaimed, his face flushing as he felt the warmth of her body pressing against him.

She smirked, wrapping her arms around his neck. "You're not getting away from me that easily," she teased. "Now, listen to me, Naruto-kun. You need to eat. For me, okay?"

Naruto tried to look away, but Ino cupped his face, forcing him to meet her gaze. Her eyes were filled with determination and a hint of mischief.

"If you don't eat, I'll have to feed you myself," she said, grabbing a spoonful of food from her plate. Before he could protest, she brought it to his lips and pushed it into his mouth.

Naruto's face turned beet red as he chewed, unable to argue with her assertiveness.

"There," Ino said with a satisfied grin. "See? Not so hard."

"Ino, I…" Naruto began, but she silenced him with a finger to his lips.

"Listen to me, Naruto-kun," she said softly. "You're the strongest person I know. You're kind, brave, and so much more than those old fools at the Summit could ever understand. Don't let their words get to you. You're better than them—all of them. And you're not alone. You have me."

Naruto's eyes softened as her words sank in. For a moment, the weight on his shoulders felt just a little lighter.

"Thank you, Ino," he said quietly.

She smiled and leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead. "Always."

### **Elsewhere: Orders and Regret**

In the Hokage's office, Tsunade stood with her arms crossed, her sharp eyes fixed on the ANBU operative before her.

"I want Naruto Uzumaki, Ino Yamanaka, Shikamaru Nara, and Choji Akimichi assembled immediately," she ordered.

The masked figure nodded. "Understood, Lady Tsunade."

As the operative disappeared, Tsunade sighed heavily, her thoughts turning to Naruto. She knew he had been struggling lately, and she hoped this mission would help him find some clarity.

Meanwhile, in a quiet room elsewhere in the village, Sakura sat by herself, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. Her mind replayed a conversation from three years ago, one she had tried to forget but could never truly erase.

"Could he have heard me?" she whispered to herself, the weight of her guilt pressing down on her.

Her heart sank as she recalled the bitterness in her own voice, the words she had spoken so carelessly.

*If he heard... what would he think of me now?*

She buried her face in her hands, wishing desperately for a chance to undo the past.

### **

The forest clearing echoed with the sound of blows landing on a training dummy. Naruto stood tall, his sharp eyes watching every movement Ino made as she struck her target. Her golden hair clung to her face, damp with sweat, but her determination shone through.

"Focus, Ino," Naruto said, his voice calm but firm. "Your stance is still off. If you don't keep your center of gravity balanced, you'll lose power."

Ino gritted her teeth, adjusting her footing. She took a deep breath, channeling her chakra into her palm, and delivered a perfect strike. The dummy jolted violently, the wood cracking under the force.

"Better," Naruto said with a slight nod.

Ino turned to him, a triumphant smile lighting up her face. "You're such a tough teacher, Naruto-kun. Maybe I should start calling you sensei."

Naruto crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow. "If you spent less time talking and more time training, you might actually improve faster."

"Oh, lighten up!" Ino teased, sticking her tongue out. "You know you love spending time with me."

Before Naruto could respond, a shadow flickered through the trees. In an instant, a masked ANBU operative appeared before them.

"Naruto Uzumaki, Ino Yamanaka," the operative said, his tone brisk and formal. "You're both required to report to Lady Tsunade immediately for a mission briefing."

Ino's cheerful demeanor vanished in an instant, replaced by a fiery glare. She stepped forward, placing her hands on her hips. "And who do you think you are, interrupting my training, you rude little ANBU?"

The operative hesitated, clearly taken aback. "This is an urgent matter. Lady Tsunade—"

"I don't care how urgent it is," Ino interrupted, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "I'll go when I'm ready. Do you have any idea how much effort I put into these training sessions with Naruto-kun? And now you expect me to just drop everything because *you* said so?"

"Ino," Naruto said, his voice cutting through her rant. "Let's go."

Ino pouted, but her eyes softened when she saw Naruto's serious expression. "Fine," she huffed. She gestured to her sweat-soaked training clothes. "But I need to change first. I'm not walking through the village like this."

Naruto turned to leave, but Ino stopped him with a playful smirk. "Actually, on second thought… I think I look good like this. I wouldn't want anyone else to see me like this, though." She placed her hand suggestively beneath her chest, emphasizing her curves. "This look is just for you, Naruto-kun."

Naruto's face turned crimson, and he quickly turned away. "Just… hurry up," he muttered.

Minutes later, Naruto and Ino entered the Hokage Tower. Ino, true to her word, had changed into something more stylish—a sleek, fitted outfit that accentuated her figure while remaining practical for a mission. Naruto, meanwhile, wore a dark, tailored outfit that exuded quiet authority. His long black coat was adorned with crimson accents, and the Uzumaki clan symbol was embroidered on the back in gold. Beneath it, he wore a high-collared shirt and dark pants tucked into polished boots.

They entered the office to find Shikamaru and Choji already waiting.

"Ino!" Shikamaru greeted, his usual lazy tone laced with warmth. "Long time no see."

"Yeah, it's been a while," Choji added with a smile.

Ino beamed, waving to them. "It really has been too long, hasn't it? You two haven't changed a bit."

Naruto, standing silently by her side, didn't respond to the greetings.

Ino noticed his aloofness and nudged him playfully. "Come on, Naruto-kun, don't be rude. Say hi."

Naruto glanced at her but remained silent, his expression unreadable.

Choji chuckled awkwardly. "I see you've ditched the orange, Naruto. That's new."

Naruto's cold gaze flickered to Choji, but he didn't reply.

Shikamaru sighed, scratching the back of his neck. "Last time I saw you, Naruto, you were pretty angry—during and after the war. Guess that hasn't changed."

Still, Naruto didn't react.

Shikamaru frowned, his tone sharpening. "You've really changed, man. You've become so distant it's almost arrogant."

Naruto's gaze finally landed on him, piercing and unyielding. "Save your breath, Shikamaru. I don't need advice from a lazy fool like you."

Shikamaru's jaw tightened, but before he could respond, Ino stepped between them. "I'm sorry," she said quickly, bowing slightly to Shikamaru. "He doesn't mean it. He's just… going through a lot."

Naruto scoffed. "I'm not apologizing, and I don't care what he thinks."

Before the tension could escalate further, the door to the office slammed open, and Tsunade strode in, her authoritative presence commanding attention.

"Enough of this nonsense," she said sharply. "You're not children anymore. Act like the shinobi you're supposed to be."

Naruto and Shikamaru both fell silent, though the tension between them remained palpable.

Tsunade sighed and gestured for them to gather around. "Now listen up. There's a situation that needs your attention. The Headless Horseman has been terrorizing the village of Kirisawa. The death toll is rising, and the villagers are desperate for help. Your mission is to investigate, gather evidence, and, if possible, eliminate the threat."

The room fell silent as the gravity of the mission sank in.

Tsunade's gaze settled on Naruto. "I'm counting on you, Naruto. This mission requires your strength and determination."

Naruto's expression hardened, and he gave a single nod. "Understood."

Ino glanced at him, her heart aching as she saw the flicker of resolve in his eyes. She knew this mission would be difficult for him—not just because of the danger, but because of the memories it would stir.

As they left the office, Tsunade called after them, her voice softer. "Good luck. I have faith in you."

### **A Moment of Resolve**

Outside the Hokage Tower, the team gathered their thoughts. Naruto walked ahead, his posture rigid and purposeful.

Ino jogged to catch up with him, grabbing his hand. "Naruto-kun, are you sure about this mission?" she asked, her voice tinged with worry.

Naruto didn't stop walking, his gaze fixed ahead. "It doesn't matter. I'll find a way to stop him."

Ino squeezed his hand, searching his face. In his eyes, she saw not just determination, but a deep well of pain and regret.

She smiled softly, despite the flutter of nervousness in her chest. "You're incredible, Naruto-kun," she said, her cheeks tinged with pink.

Naruto glanced at her, his expression softening for just a moment before he turned away.

As they walked toward their next challenge, Ino's grip on his hand tightened. She would stand by his side, no matter what.

##

The golden rays of the early morning sun bathed the massive gates of Konoha, where Shikamaru and Choji waited, leaning against the wooden beams. The usual bustle of villagers filled the background, but their attention remained on the path leading to the heart of the village.

"Why is Naruto always late these days?" Choji grumbled, popping a chip into his mouth.

Shikamaru sighed, arms crossed over his chest. "He's like his old sensei Kakashi. Always taking his sweet time. Troublesome."

Before Choji could reply, Ino approached, her blonde hair shimmering in the sunlight. She was dressed impeccably, her form-fitting mission attire blending practicality with her innate sense of style. She had a bright yet impatient look in her eyes.

"Where's Naruto-kun?" she asked, glancing around.

"We were about to ask you the same thing," Shikamaru replied lazily. "Why's he taking so long?"

Ino rolled her eyes, planting her hands on her hips. "He's just getting ready."

Shikamaru raised an eyebrow, a sly smirk playing on his lips. "Getting ready, huh? Why does it take him so long? Don't tell me you've turned him into a fashionista, Ino."

Ino huffed, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Naruto-kun is not late! He's... just thorough."

Choji chuckled softly, while Shikamaru's smirk widened. "You're really defensive of him, aren't you?" Shikamaru teased. "You like him, don't you?"

Ino's blush deepened as she waved her hand dismissively. "That's none of your business!"

Shikamaru shrugged. "Touchy subject, huh? I think I know why you like him so much, though. It's because of that mission, isn't it?"

Ino froze for a moment before sighing. "What are you talking about?"

Shikamaru leaned back against the gate, his expression contemplative. "I remember hearing about how the two of you argued, how Naruto left you on your own. But something must've happened to change the dynamic between you two."

Ino hesitated, glancing away. "It's not something I like to talk about…"

Shikamaru's curiosity was piqued. "What happened, Ino?"

Taking a deep breath, Ino crossed her arms and began to explain. "We were sent on that mission together. We argued—he was so cold and stubborn, and I was just as determined to prove myself. After he walked away, I decided to finish the mission on my own. That's when… it almost happened." Her voice dropped, tinged with both shame and anger.

"Almost what?" Choji asked gently.

Ino swallowed hard. "I was ambushed. I underestimated the enemy, and they… they tried to…" Her voice cracked slightly, and she shook her head. "If Naruto-kun hadn't come back when he did, I don't know what would've happened. He saved me. He didn't have to, especially after the way we fought, but he did."

Choji's expression softened. "Sounds like you went through a lot."

Shikamaru nodded slowly, his tone serious for once. "That's just like him. No matter how much he's changed, Naruto's core hasn't. He doesn't abandon people he cares about."

Ino blinked, surprised. "Do you really think he cares about me?"

Shikamaru chuckled softly. "I don't just think so, Ino. I know it. Think about it—he could've left you and focused on the mission. But instead, he risked everything to save you, even though it meant failing to stop Malrik."

At the mention of Malrik, a shadow passed over Ino's face. She remembered the battle vividly: Naruto standing between her and the enemy, taking brutal blows while still trying to protect her.

Shikamaru continued, his voice calm but firm. "Naruto doesn't take risks like that unless it's for someone he really cares about. He might be colder now, more distant, but deep down, he's still the same guy who values his friends more than anything else."

Ino's cheeks flushed with both embarrassment and guilt. "I feel terrible for what happened. If I hadn't been so reckless, he wouldn't have had to sacrifice so much for me."

Shikamaru placed a hand on her shoulder, offering a rare smile. "Just don't let it happen again. You're strong, Ino. Make sure he doesn't have to go through that for you twice."

Ino nodded firmly, her resolve hardening. "I won't let him down again."

Before the moment could get too sentimental, Choji spoke up. "So… where *is* Naruto? He's still not here."

Shikamaru smirked. "Maybe he's off with another girl. You know how he is now—cold, distant. Maybe he's cheating on you, Ino."

Ino's eyes widened, her face turning beet red. "WHAT?!" she shouted, her voice echoing through the clearing. "How DARE he cheat on me?! I'll kill him!"

Shikamaru burst out laughing. "Relax, I was kidding! Troublesome as always…"

As if on cue, Naruto appeared at the end of the path, walking toward them with his usual calm demeanor. His dark coat billowed slightly in the breeze, and the serious look on his face made it clear he was ready for the mission.

Ino marched up to him, her hands on her hips. "Where have you been, Naruto-kun? And who is this girl you're cheating on me with?"

Naruto raised an eyebrow, his expression deadpan. "What are you talking about?"

"You've been gone forever!" Ino exclaimed. "What were you doing, huh? Sneaking off with someone else?"

Naruto sighed, clearly unamused. "If I wanted to cheat on you, Ino, I would've done it long before you moved in with me. And for the record, I promised my mother I'd only sleep with my wife."

Shikamaru and Choji couldn't hold back their laughter, their amusement only fueling Ino's embarrassment.

Ino's face turned scarlet, and she quickly looked away. "I-I'm sorry, Naruto-kun. This is all *his* fault!" She pointed accusingly at Shikamaru.

Naruto simply shrugged. "I don't care. Let's just get moving." He turned and started walking toward the gates.

Ino clenched her fists, glaring at Shikamaru. "I'll get you for this, you lazy jerk!"

Shikamaru smirked, watching her storm off after Naruto. "Troublesome as ever."

Choji chuckled, finishing the last of his chips. "Come on, Shikamaru. Let's get to work."

The two followed their teammates, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

### **

The air grew heavier as the team of four—Naruto, Ino, Shikamaru, and Choji—neared the outskirts of the village. Dark clouds loomed overhead, casting an ominous shadow over the settlement, which was known for the recent string of gruesome murders. Despite the foreboding atmosphere, Ino clung to Naruto's arm, her grip tight yet tender.

"Naruto-kun," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper, "this place gives me the creeps."

Naruto glanced down at her, his expression stoic but his tone reassuring. "Stay close, and don't let your guard down."

Choji, ever the optimist, tried to lighten the mood. "At least we're together. This isn't a solo mission."

Shikamaru rolled his eyes. "It's still troublesome. Let's just get this over with."

As they approached the village gates, a guard stepped forward, his face weary from countless sleepless nights. "Who are you?" he demanded, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword.

Naruto stepped forward, his presence commanding respect. "We're shinobi from Konoha, sent by the Hokage to investigate the murders and put an end to the threat."

The guard's eyes widened as recognition dawned. "You're Naruto Uzumaki," he said, his tone shifting from suspicion to awe. "The hero of the Fourth Great Ninja War… Please, come in. We've been praying for someone like you to help us."

Naruto inclined his head slightly. "Thank you."

As the gates creaked open, the team stepped into the village. Ino glanced at Naruto with a playful smile. "You're famous, Naruto-kun. Everyone seems to know your name."

Choji chuckled. "Well, he *is* the world's hero. It's no surprise."

Shikamaru, unimpressed, muttered under his breath, "Let's not get carried away. Fame doesn't solve everything."

They hadn't gone far into the village when a young woman with long, silvery-white hair appeared. Her striking features and graceful demeanor immediately caught everyone's attention. She approached with a warm smile, her pale blue eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Welcome," she said, bowing slightly. "My name is Asami. I've been asked to guide you during your stay."

Her gaze shifted to Naruto, lingering on him for a moment longer than the others. Her cheeks flushed a delicate pink. "You must be Naruto Uzumaki," she said shyly. "The hero of the world. Your reputation precedes you, but seeing you in person… You're even more incredible than the stories say."

Naruto simply nodded, his expression unreadable.

Asami took a step closer, her gaze admiring. "Your hair… it's such a rare shade of blond. You're…" She hesitated, her blush deepening. "You're incredibly handsome."

Before anyone could react, Asami threw her arms around Naruto, hugging him tightly. "What do you say, hero? Why don't we spend the night together? Just you and me. I'd love to get to know you better."

Ino's eyes widened in shock before narrowing into a glare. A wave of jealousy surged through her as she stormed forward, yanking Asami away from Naruto.

"Back off!" Ino snapped, placing herself protectively in front of him.

Asami looked genuinely confused. "Why? He's so handsome. I just want to spend some time with him."

Ino's hands balled into fists, her voice rising with indignation. "He's not interested in spending the night with *you*!"

Asami tilted her head, her curiosity unrelenting. "Why not? What is he to you?"

Ino's face turned crimson, her emotions warring between embarrassment and possessiveness. "He's my fiancé!" she blurted out.

Naruto raised an eyebrow, his voice flat. "I'm not your fiancé."

Ino turned to glare at him, then back at Asami, doubling down. "He *will* be in the future!"

Asami giggled, her tone teasing. "If he's not officially your fiancé yet, then it's fair game, right? Maybe he'll choose me instead." She took a step closer to Naruto, her smile coy. "I mean, who wouldn't want to spend the night with a guy like him?"

Ino's temper flared, her jealousy reaching its peak. "Listen, you—he's *mine*! He's my boyfriend, my future husband, and there's no way I'm letting him spend the night with someone like you!"

Asami's teasing demeanor didn't falter. "If he's really yours, then why isn't he saying anything?"

At this, Ino turned to Naruto, her hands on her hips. "Naruto-kun, say something!"

Naruto glanced at her, then at Asami, his expression unchanging. "This is pointless."

Meanwhile, Kurama, observing the scene from within Naruto's subconscious, chuckled deeply. **"I can't believe this. They're actually fighting over you, Naruto. This is too good."**

Shikamaru, who had been watching the exchange with increasing irritation, finally sighed and activated his Shadow Possession Jutsu. The shadows stretched out, freezing both Ino and Asami in place.

"Enough," Shikamaru said, his tone exasperated. "Stop this nonsense."

Both women turned to glare at him, speaking in unison. "She started it!"

Shikamaru rubbed his temples, muttering to himself, "Troublesome. So troublesome."

Choji chuckled from the sidelines, shaking his head. "Well, this is going to be an interesting mission."

### **

The air inside the inn was heavy, a sense of dread hanging over the small group as they sat together, listening to Asami's trembling words. The young woman's silver hair caught the dim light of the room as she spoke, her voice low and hesitant.

"There's a terrible curse on this village," Asami began. "Every night, someone is found dead, their body mutilated… and their head missing."

Naruto, seated across from her, narrowed his eyes. He tapped his fingers against the wooden table, his expression unreadable. "Headless bodies," he murmured, almost to himself. "The Headless Rider…"

Asami gasped, covering her mouth. "You've heard of it?"

Shikamaru leaned back in his chair, his brow furrowed in thought. "If this happens only at night, it's probably using the darkness to its advantage. That makes it even more troublesome to deal with."

Asami hesitated before continuing. "There's an old legend about the Headless Rider. They say it's the spirit of a warrior, cursed to roam the earth, taking the heads of those it deems unworthy. No one has been able to stop it."

Shikamaru glanced at her, his expression unusually serious. "I remember something about this," he said. "A few months ago, there was a mission where a girl was traveling with us. That thing appeared out of nowhere… and we saw it take her head right in front of us."

Ino shivered, her face pale. "I remember," she said quietly. "I was there too. It was horrifying…"

Choji looked down at his hands, his usual appetite nowhere to be seen. "I wasn't on that mission, but everyone in the village heard about it. They said the Headless Rider can't be stopped."

Shikamaru crossed his arms. "If it's targeting people every night, then we don't have a choice. We'll have to stay up tonight and wait for it to appear."

Asami turned to Naruto, her eyes wide and hopeful. "But you'll protect us, won't you? You're the hero of the world. You're strong enough to save us." She leaned closer to him, wrapping her arms around him suddenly. "Please, Naruto…"

Ino, sitting next to Naruto, tensed. Her jaw clenched as she shot Asami a deadly glare. "Get your hands off him," she said, her voice dangerously low.

Asami smirked, refusing to move. "Why? Is he yours?"

Without a second thought, Ino grabbed Naruto by the collar, turned him toward her, and pressed her lips to his in a deep, passionate kiss. Naruto's eyes widened in shock, his face turning beet red as Ino's tongue teased against his.

"Ino—!" he managed to mumble between the intense kiss, but she only deepened it, her hands pulling him closer. The kiss grew more heated until they both tumbled off the couch, landing on the floor in a tangled heap.

Shikamaru sighed, rubbing his temples. "That's Ino for you. Never afraid to make a scene."

Ino finally broke the kiss, sitting on top of a thoroughly flustered Naruto, who was still struggling to process what had just happened. She smirked triumphantly at Asami. "That's how I prove it. He's mine."

Asami stared at her, stunned and speechless. "I… I can't believe you just did that…"

Ino stuck out her tongue playfully. "Believe it. And don't even think about trying anything else."

Naruto, still lying on the floor, tried to regain his composure. "Ino, can you get off me now? This is… kind of embarrassing."

Ino grinned, leaning down to whisper in his ear. "Not a chance, Naruto-kun."

Kurama's deep laugh echoed in Naruto's mind. **"This is the most entertaining thing I've seen in years. Humans are ridiculous."**

Later that night, the village was eerily silent, the darkness pressing in on them like a living thing. Naruto sat on a rooftop, his eyes scanning the empty streets below. He could feel the weight of the mission settling on his shoulders.

Ino climbed up to join him, carrying two steaming cups of hot cocoa. She handed one to him, her smile soft. "Here, Naruto-kun. You'll need this to stay warm."

"Thanks," he said quietly, taking a sip. The warmth spread through him, momentarily dispelling the chill of the night.

For a while, they sat in silence, the only sounds the occasional rustle of leaves and the distant hoot of an owl.

Ino leaned her head against Naruto's shoulder, her voice barely audible. "Naruto-kun, are you sure about this? This thing… it's dangerous."

Naruto's gaze remained fixed on the horizon. "I'm not afraid of anyone or anything, Ino. If this Headless Rider is as dangerous as they say, then it's my job to stop it."

Ino's hands tightened around her cup. "But Naruto-kun… we saw what it can do. That girl… it took her head right in front of us. And I heard it defeated Sasuke in another mission. If it could do that to him…"

Naruto's voice was steady, unwavering. "I'm not Sasuke. And I'm not just anyone. I'll stop the Rider tonight. No matter what it takes."

Ino's heart ached at his determination. She turned to him, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "I'm scared for you, Naruto. I've already lost so many people—my parents, my sensei. I can't lose you too."

Naruto finally looked at her, his gaze softening. "Don't worry, Ino. I'm not going to die. I promise."

Ino's breath hitched, and she leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. "We'll face it together, Naruto-kun," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion.

Naruto nodded, his resolve unshaken. "Together."

As the night deepened, Ino rested her head against his shoulder, finding comfort in his presence. Kurama watched the scene from within, shaking his massive head with a grin. **"Ah, young love. Humans really are something else."**

the end
