"Where is the casino?" Alice finally asked as Hatter drove the boat somewhere.
"We've already told you, you can't negociate with the queen," Hatter told her. "But, the White Rabbit is a deferente kettle of onions. Perhaps they'll do a deal."
"It's a long shot," I said thinking on it. "They were extremily well trained to serve faithfully."
"It's the only one we've got," Hatter told me and I nodded.
"We?" Alice asked. Hatter just stared straight ahead of him before straighting his neck.
"I don't know if you notice, but my shop was ransacked," he pointed out. "I'm... homeless. I'm a target now, not only for the suits but for the resistance as well and there's only so many places in Wonderland I can hide. The way I see it, I only got one option."
"And that would be?" I asked him curiously.
"Go back with you." I stared at him shocked. "To the other side." I wanted to say something to him when he turned to me with a look on his face. I felt my face heat up a bit and quickly turned away only to hear something behind us. We all turned to see a Scarub following us. "Before we do anything, we need to shake our royal flush." He seemed to kick it into high gear going straight for the shoreline.
Once we got there, we pulled the boat as far as we could on the shore and covered it up so they couldn't see it. Once it was done, we moved up the hill taking deep breathes.
"I don't know who that weirdo is leading the posse, but he's got one hell of a nose for blood," Hatter told us. "And this is the place to find it." Something roared through the trees and Alice backed into me a bit.
"What was that?" Alice asked.
"There's things in these woods that defy imagination," Hatter told her and I took her hand in mine. "Come on. We haven't got much time." I started following him up the hill, but stopped when my hand was pulled back slightly. I turned to see Alice hadn't move an inch.
"Alice, we have to go," I told her.
"Look, we can't shake the posse." I turned and looked at Hatter. "We can't fight them either. There's only one thing left to try."
"What's that?" Alice asked him.
"Lead them into a trap." Hatter turned and walked away from us. I looked back at Alice, but she just stared at where he'd been.
"He's right, Alice." She shifted her gaze to me. "We really can't run away from this." I released her hand and followed Hatter before hearing her follow me.
We followed Hatter through the woods whith him checking to see if we were behind him every so often.
"Keep your breathing shallow," he instructed before another roar echoed through the forest. Alice gasped and grabbed Hatter's arm for comfort and out of fear.
"Did you hear that?"
"Yep," Hatter shivered in fear. "You two should find a tree that you can climb."
"What? Why?" Alice asked him.
"What about you?" I asked him.
"Remember that trap we walked about?" he asked turning to us. "This is it. I'm the bait."
"Have you lost your mind?!" I nearly shouted at him.
"Go." With that said, he ran away from us.
"Wait!" Alice shouted at him. "What is it?! Tell me!" She started following him and I stared after her like she was an idiot.
"Alice! That thing isn't a joke!" I called after her. When she finally caught up to him she grabbed an arm to stop herself from going further while I grabbed the other and stared ahead of us.
"It's a Jabberwock," Hatter told us.
"What?" Alice asked confused.
"You can't take a Jabberwock on your own, stupid!" I insulted and he just gave both of us looks.
"Alice, Gwen, less of the questions just get going." He pushed the two of us from him and Alice took his advice and ran while I stared at him.
"Are you seriously going to try and lead this thing back to the posse?" I asked him and he just sighed in annoyance.
"Yes! After he gets a good look at me!" He shouted at me. "Could you just please go?!"
"That's your plan?" Alice asked. I hadn't noticed she had come back to us.
"If you don't..." The Jabberwock roared again and he heard its thundering steps, but not from in front of us. We sowly turned to see the Jabberwock looking between us. It had buldging eyes and two large teeth its mouth couldn't cover. It stood on its hind legs with wings on its back it would never be able to use. It roared again at us. "Run." I felt a hand grab mine and pull me towards them. I was running behind Hatter only to feel the footsteps go the other way. I turned and saw Alice running the other direction with the Jabberwock following her.
"Alice!" I called after her and Hatter stopped suddenly making me run into him.
"Not that way!" We quickly ran after Alice and the Jabborwock. We got lucky when Alice ran through a pair of trees and the Jabberwock tried to follow her. It's long neck and head fit just fine, but its buldging body made it stop just short of reaching her. Hatter and I skidded to a halt next to Alice as the Jabberwock continued to roar at her. We quickly got up and ran away from the trapped Jabberwock only to fall into a pit of spikes. Miraculously, we managed to miss every spike.
"Alice? Hatter? You guys okay?" I groaned out.
"Just about," Alice told me while Hatter continued his groaning. We heard the Jabberwock still moving and making noises and I froze.
"Stay still," Hatter whispered to us just as its head appeared in the hole with us. It roared before trying to attack only to get stuck on one of the spikes surrounding us. It made pained noises before removing its head from the spike and roared as it left us alone. I sighed in relief before a person in armor suddenly appeared above us.
