"...In other news, it appears Spawn has struck again. Last night, a group of five men were found brutally murdered in an alleyway in the East End of Gotham City. Each of them were dispatched in gruesome ways: One had his head torn clean off the body. Another had his head and spinal cord removed. The third received a gunshot to the head. The fourth was incinerated by fire, as reports say, and the fifth had endured blunt force to the head hard enough to kill him. The bodies that remain have been sent to the morgue after the police identified the men, who were known to be working for notorious crime lord of Gotham, Roman Sionis, AKA Black Mask. This is Vikki Vale, reporting for Gotham News."

SMASH!

The TV was shattered after a hard object was thrown against the screen, breaking it. "That bastard did what?! What?!"

Roman Sionis, AKA Black Mask, was pissed. And that was nowhere near a good thing for anyone around him as his men flinched at their boss's enraged shout.

The crime lord himself had stood up from his desk and watched the news report, the photos of his men appearing on screen to identify them and they were even stated to have worked for him. His men had been butchered. That damn new guy was butchering his men! Granted, Black Mask can easily replace them with new henchmen, but the fact of the matter is to attack Black Mask's men means an attack on Black Mask himself.

And nobody attacks Black Mask... well, save for the likes of Batman and the Red Hood but that's a whole different matter.

Sionis paced up and down in his office, muttering incoherently under his breath while his men watched with passive, but nervous expressions. Their boss had a habit of taking his anger out on them when he was pissed.

"Fucker can't stay in his own turf? he's gotta come to mine! Because of course!" Sionis threw his hands up in annoyance and frustration. "Of course he's gotta come here! New York's crime rate is practically non-existent, so he's gonna try and do the same everywhere else! Or maybe he's just giving Batman a taste of his own medicine by enroaching on his city just like he did six months ago. But FUCK THAT! Gotham is my city. And I'll be damned before I allow some masked, caped freak to come in and start destroying my business and killing my men!"

One of the henchmen swallowed nervously. "W-What do we do, sir?" He shifted as Black Mask's eyes looked at him.

"I'll tell you what we're gonna do." Black Mask growled lowly while approaching the man. "I want a ten million dollar bounty on this freak! Send the memo out to the best assassins in the world, and that they have one night to bring me the head of Spawn. In fact, if they do just that, I'll double the bounty. That's what i'm going to do, got that?"

The man nodded nervously. "Y-Yes, sir-"

He was punched in the face by his boss, knocking him out cold.

Black Mask turned and walked towards his desk where a picture of Spawn was laid on the table. Sionis picked it up and glared at the image. "Get some envelopes ready. I want them delivered to eight of the best assassins in the world. Starting tomorrow night, they have only one night to kill Spawn."

"Yes, sir!" The men nodded.

Diana sat on her couch in her apartment, watching the Gotham News as they went into discussion about Spawn and his war with crime in Gotham, bringing up how in several months he reduced the crime rate in New York to merely thieves and robbers.

The Amazon was clad in a bathrobe that was a little too small for her, seeing as it came down mid-thigh and showed off some of her cleavage. She had just gone for a shower and about to turn in for the night when the news came on, mentioning about what Spawn did the other night in killing those thugs that would've raped her. She didn't know they worked for Black Mask, and she doubted Spawn did but he probably wouldn't care either way if he did.

She watched as people were in mixed feelings about Spawn. Some thought he was doing a better job than other heroes. That him killing criminals was putting their assurances to rest. That some parents can be relieved for their children to return home from school without the potential danger of a child murderer or predator catching them. But then there was the other half that thought Spawn was taking things way too far like the other Anti-Heroes such as Red Hood and Huntress.

When asked why they believed Spawn was in the right, some said that the system was broken and Spawn clearly had enough of officials being corrupt and bribed to let criminals go, just as Nathan said.

Nathan...

The thought of the man brought a smile to Diana's face as she recalled their meeting. She hadn't heard from him since their little impromptu coffee date. He was probably busy with something, yet she couldn't help but think on his words about Spawn. Not to form her own opinion, but the way he said it. It wouldn't be possible for one man to know the mind of a lethal vigilante like that unless he was...

Unless he was the vigilante in question.

Diana shook her head. She truly wanted to believe that Nathan was not Spawn, but from the way she was looking at it now by thinking on his words, it was starting to look that way.

Any further thought was broken by her phone vibrating on her table, prompting her to quickly grab it and answer without bothering to check the number. "Diana Prince."

"Hey, Diana."

"Nathan!" her voice filled with excitement at the man's greeting from the other end. "I was wondering when you'd call. Missing me already?"

A chuckle came from the other end. "Oh, now that's a trick question. Anybody would be missing you, beautiful."

Diana giggled at his compliment. "So, what can I do for you?" She asked, leaning back in her couch while crossing her legs, her eyes on the TV as it went over Spawn's history.

"Well, um..." Here, Diana raised a brow at hearing the nervousness in Nathan's voice, but she waited patiently. ""I was wondering if, um... if you... oh fuck, I'm terrible at this now. I was wondering if you were free tomorrow afternoon. Maybe we could meet up and have some lunch."

Diana's eyes went half-lidded, even though he couldn't see her. "Mr. Nolan, are you asking me out?" She asked coyly and playfully.

"Uh... Y-Yeah." Nathan sighed in defeat. "it's going to be a no, isn't it?"

There were tons of men who shamelessly expressed lecherous thoughts about "scoring one" with Wonder Woman, which at times made her consider the rumors of the evils of Man to be true. But Nathan Nolan, the first man to ask her, Wonder Woman, on a date, had beaten them all with just a phone call and some words.

Hiding her excitement, she answered, "Lucky for you, my job doesn't need me at that time. You got yourself a date, handsome."

"Great!" She smiled at hearing the happiness and relief in his voice. "I'll text you the details tomorrow morning. Where we can meet up. Lunch is on me. Would be disrespectful to let the lady pay."

"Deal." Diana answered without hesitation.

After Diana hung up, Nathan exhaled loudly while sitting in his temporary apartment in Gotham City. It was only temporary until his business in Gotham wraps up and he heads back to New York. But while he's here, he might as well have some fun as himself. While he had his business as Spawn at night, he wanted to try and salavge the semblance of a normal life again.

And what better way to do so than by going out on a date with a beautiful woman?

he hadn't been with a woman since his wife, so he was a little out of practice when it comes to this sort of thing. His life lately had not shown some room for romance or the prospect of getting involved with another woman. Namely because he had been brooding darkly about his family's death while intending to get revenge on the bastards responsible for it. And once that was done, he was still left in the darkness and fought against Hell and Heaven.

But now? Now he had a chance.

At first he wasn't going to ask Diana out. He didn't want to potentially expose her to his other side. His other life and get her into the dangers that followed, but he had firmly vowed to himself to not let that happen. As long as he was careful, Diana wouldn't find out about him being Spawn.

'Now, I better get things sorted.' Nathan thought as he stood up. 'I got a date with a pretty woman tomorrow.'

Not much in this chapter, but it was to set up the arc which will be inspired by Batman: Arkham Origins, if you couldn't tell already.

Also, I'm really thinking of doing more stories with an OC connected to something from Marvel and set in the DC Universe and paired with a DC gal.

Like, if I did Jakob Thorsson, the son of Thor, he'd be paired with Wonder Woman.

Venom... maybe Huntress.

Ghost Rider? Not sure.

Ryan Parker AKA Wolf-Spider? Not sure about that one as well.

James Draven, the son of the Wolverine? Not sure about him as well.

Let me know what you all think.
