Chapter I

Daniel stood at the head of the briefing room, and sitting around him was the rest of SG-1. Lieutenant Colonels Cameron Mitchell and Samantha Carter, Teal'c, Martouf, and Vala Mal Doran. General Landry was to Daniel's left.

Daniel took a long look at his team before he spoke, trying to find the best way to explain his newest theory to them. He couldn't believe how far they had come in what seemed like such a short amount of time. It feels just like yesterday that he was living on Abydos. Teal'c was now a leader amongst the Free Jaffa. More than that, Teal'C was a strong leader amongst his people. The Jaffa were skeptical of his leadership capabilities at first, but after Teal'C was able to not only quell two brewing civil wars amongst the Jaffa, but he was finally able to unify both sides and get them to find common ground. Bra'tac became the Jaffa equivalent of the Vice President which only lended to Teal'c's strength as a leader.

Sam and Martouf were now married. After Martouf was killed, Sam began to really consider what her feelings towards him were. This Martouf was not the original Martouf of our reality, so to speak. This Martouf was from an alternate universe where he and his Sam were working with Merlin's out of phase device when a power surge caused him to be sent to our universe. Unfortunately, after a year of trying, Martouf accepted that he could not go home and chose the next best thing, he joined SG-1.

Vala and Daniel were currently engaged and expecting their first child. Vala even finally started taking life more seriously and became a prominent member of not only SG-1, but also Homeworld Command. Vala became the first official "alien" Ambassador for Earth. Daniel was skeptical of her taking on this role. Not because he did not believe that she was unable to do it, but because he was afraid of how much stress this would put on her. Daniel was happy to admit that he was very, very wrong. She was killing it in her new role.

"Uh, okay. So we all know that Martouf and Sam have been working on refining the research that alternate Sam was working on. Well, the idea that the alternate Sam had come up with was to take small amounts of energy from thousands and thousands of universes to minimize the fallout but we had some...issues that arose from that. Yesterday, I was finally able to finish translating some of the recordings in the Asgard Computer Core they installed on The Odyssey. It looks like the Asgard had attempted similar research before their...passing. Using my translations, Sam and Martouf were able to apply the Asgard's work to their work."

"I'm assuming you have an end point here Doctor." General Landry said, sounding slightly annoyed.

"I know how to dial the Destiny from our gate using that work." Daniel replied.

"You...what?" Landry inquired.

"Well, think about it. The main issue we had with dialing the ninth chevron was due to the massive energy requirements. A simple ZPM would not give us nearly enough energy to be able to dial a wormhole that spans hundreds and hundreds of galaxies. Hence, the Icarus..."

"Dr. Jackson, I have more years behind me than I do in front of me. Can you please skip ahead a few lines?" Landry said, his face scrunching more and more as the minutes ticked by.

"Sir, Martouf and I were able to apply the Asgard's energy work into a real, practical working application and we created what we are calling the Mark-200 generator. It siphons the energy from dying stars across thousands, if not millions of alternate realities. Seeing as how the stars are already collapsing, there is no fear of extra entropy being created." Sam interjected.

Landry raised an eyebrow, but did not speak.

"Now according to Eli's last transmission back to Earth, Destiny should have reached the new galaxy as of last week. He should be waking the rest of the crew as we speak. Now I suggest we dial Destiny, bring an extra sub-space Mark-200 generator with us that Sam and Martouf have built and then we can power Destiny and assume control of all of it's functions."

"Now Doctor, correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm sure I'm not, but wouldn't it still take thousands of years for Destiny to fly back to Earth. Wouldn't it make more sense to just gate the Destiny crew home and abandon the ship?" General Landry asked.

"Uh, if you had asked me three years ago, I would've said yes. However, thanks to Dr. McKay and Dr. Zelnka's research with Atlantis' wormhole drive, I very strongly believe that we can modify Destiny's FTL drive and convert it into a wormhole drive, making it so Destiny will be able to instantly travel back to Earth."

"C'mon General, you have to admit you're curious to see this plan through." Vala squealed.

"Who would you need for this experiment doctor?" Landry asked, clearly thinking this whole thing through thoroughly.

"Myself, Sam, Martouf, Rodney, Radek for the science end of it. Teal'c, Mitchell, Shepherd, Ronon, and Teyla. That should about do it I think."

Daniel looked over and noticed that Vala had begun to raise her hand, but had quickly lowered it. Daniel thinks that she was having a hard time coping with the fact that her fieldwork was taking a backseat due to her being pregnant.

There was an awkward silence that filled the room, but all eyes were on General Landry.

"SG-1, you have a go. Bring our people home" General Landry said.
