Naruto's Undead Nightmare: Chapter 5
Hyuga Compound: With Naruto, Tenten, Konohamaru, Hana and 'Hinata'
"FUCK, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK" Naruto repeated as he and his group ran through the Hyuga compound with 'Hinata' rushing up behind them; Hinata continued her horrific screaming as she chased them with both of her hands out stretched to grab them.
"Were are we going!?" Konohamaru shouted while running next to Naruto.
"We're heading to the Hyuga clans North courtyard; it has a smaller gate we can use to escape" Tenten said as she led the group around a corner; upon turning the corner Tenten had to duck under a pair of arms.
An infected Hyuga clansman attempted to grab Tenten but her fast reflexes helped her avoid them and she skirted around it; however Hana was now in front of the infected man and it focused on her. The infected man tried to reach for Hana and to everyone's surprise she did not avoid it; instead Hana grabbed one of the infected's arms with one hand and it's collar with another.
Hana proceeded to throw the clansman over her shoulder and towards 'Hinata' who was now ten yards away and closing in fast; the infected man slammed into Hinata sending both to the ground and buying them time.
"Keep running damn it" Hana shouted as they all continued to run down the hall; Hana turned her head for a slit second and saw Hinata tearing apart the infected man with her sharp, razor like claws 'goddamn'.
As the group continued heading through the dark halls they began to see more and more infected clansman; upon turning another corner they saw two more infected, a man and a woman.
Naruto took out his machete and charged the male infected; he slashed at it with his blade and chopped off the top of it's head and dropping it like a ton of bricks. Hana followed suit and threw a shuriken at the infected woman and nailed her in the middle of the forehead.
The group ran past the two fallen infected and rushed towards a set of wide double doors up ahead "through those doors; and we'll be home free" Tenten said as they reached the doors. The doors were tied shut with rope and Naruto in an instant used his machete to cut the rope; Tenten grabbed the doors and pushed them open and in a split second all hope they had was gone.
Inside the room there were the remaining one hundred or so members of the Hyuga clan, or what was left of them; there were about seventy infected still walking around or eating the thirty or so dead bodies on the floor. Those on the floor were too damaged or too much had been eaten for them to come back.
All the infected in the room looked towards Naruto and the group and all began to charge towards them; Tenten and Naruto both grabbed a door each and pulled them shut. The wave of infected began to push against the doors and all four of the group members tried to hold them closed.
Naruto and Konohamaru were on one side while Tenten and Hana were on the other "Oh come on!" Konohamaru shouted "can't we get a break?"; suddenly there was a scream from behind them and everyone looked down the hall they just came from.
'Hinata' was back on her feet and rushing towards them at full speed "we're screwed" Naruto said as he was unsure what to do; suddenly Hana had an idea.
"No we aren't; listen to me" Hana said in a rush "we split up and open these doors; let them take each other out and we push out way through".
"Fuck it, I don't have anything better; on your go" Naruto shouted as 'Hinata' continued her rush towards them.
"One… two…three… NOW!" Hana shouted; at the same time both groups opened these door and the infected spilled out and rushed forward and down the hall unable to see that 'Hinata' was also infected.
Both the infected and 'Hinata' crashed into each other and 'Hinata' began to wildly swung her arms slicing up the infected like a rabid animal; at the same time the infected clawed and attacked Hinata not being able to differentiate between her and Naruto's group.
Naruto and Konohamaru both rushed in and slashed some infected in the rear of the group to create an opening to slip around; after killing five or so they were able to get behind and started killing some more to create an opening for Tenten and Hana.
"GIRLS, BACK HERE" Naruto shouted as he and Konohamaru slashed and stabbed.
On the other side Tenten smacked one infected with the butt of her crossbow making it stumble back; Hana sent a kick to the stumbling infected sending it crashing into another few more and sending them to the ground.
Tenten and Hana used the opening to rush past and join Naruto and Konohamaru and without looking back they ran across the large room to a pair of open paper screen doors that looked torn apart and spattered with blood.
The group ran out the doors and into a large courtyard what was littered with more bodies; Tenten led the group to the other side of the courtyard and came to a halt. The second gate was completely collapsed in on itself and could not be opened; if everyone still could use their chakra then it wouldn't be a problem, but none of them could.
"Oh crap" Tenten said wide eyed as she stood them with her group, just as they heard 'Hinata's' scream once more and turned around "OH CRAP!"; 'Hinata' had slaughtered the infected that tried to block her and was now covered in blood and was rushing towards them.
Tenten raised up her crossbow and fired a shot at 'Hinata'; however she was moving too fast and her bolt ended up hitting her in the neck instead of the forehead.
"Move" Hana shouted as she pulled on Tenten to follow her while Naruto and Konohamaru split up; 'Hinata' not able to follow all of them at once decided to make Naruto as her main target.
"Shit" Naruto shouted as he took several kunai and threw them at 'Hinata' in a volley; the kunai hit 'Hinata' in the arms, chest and stomach but didn't slow her down. Naruto readied his machete and was about to get ready to face her head on when Konohamaru got behind her; with his trench knives Konohamaru slashed at the back of her ankles and sliced the Achilles tendons making her stumble to the ground.
As 'Hinata' tried to get up Naruto ran forward and she raised her arm to slash at him; Naruto slashed first with his machete and sliced off her right arm just above the elbow. Not feeling any pain 'Hinata' tried to attack Naruto with her other hand but Naruto parried and sliced the hand off at the wrist.
Now unable to move Naruto raised his machete above his head and was about to bring it down when something happened; 'Hinata' looked up at him no longer screaming or with a snarling face. Her blood shot lavender eyes looked on in curiosity, like she was trying saying 'don't I know you?'
"What the hell are you waiting for?" Hana shouted snapping Naruto out of his thoughts "kill it".
"Hold up" Naruto said raising his hand and stopping everyone "I-I think she remembers me; look she's not snarling or shouting"; Naruto backed up and fell to a knee and looked at Hinata. "Is it possible she remembers me?" Naruto asked "can they remember certain people in their lives?"
Everyone looked on at the now passive 'Hinata' as she sat on the ground; Hinata turned her head towards the others and began to growl, like she was trying to ward them off.
"Hey" Naruto said and 'Hinata' snapped her head towards him; as soon as it began it stopped and Hinata's face returned to passivity.
"She's gone Naruto" Tenten said and Naruto looked at her "what ever that thing is now… it's not her; maybe there is something in there, but the Hinata you knew is gone". Tenten loaded her crossbow and threw it over to Naruto who caught it "put her to rest" Tenten said.
Naruto put down his machete, rose to his feet and raised the crossbow; Naruto aimed the crossbow at her and 'Hinata' tracked him with her bloodshot eyes.
"I'm sorry this happened to you" Naruto said softly; 'Hinata' tilted her head to the side like a curious dog as she stared at Naruto. The next second Naruto shot the bolt into Hinata's forehead killing her instantly; the bolt shot through her skull and planted itself into the ground behind her.
Hinata's body fell to the ground as the blackened blood oozed from her head wound; Naruto had a single tear fall from his eye as he looked at her. Tenten walked over to Naruto who wiped his face and handed back the crossbow back to her.
"Lets leave this god forsaken place" Naruto said as he picked up his machete and walked to the wall; without anyone saying a word Naruto boosted Tenten, Hana and Konohamaru over the wall before he himself was pulled up and over.
(1 hour later) Outside Konoha; in a roadside shop: With Naruto, Tenten, Konohamaru and Hana
Naruto pulled down the steel shutters of the road side shop and secured it using the lock; Naruto turned around and saw his group huddled around the counter using a lantern as a light source . The inside of the shop was in pristine condition as it was closed during the beginning of the pandemic; the owners must've stayed at home following the quarantine orders.
The entire store was full of snacks, drinks and trinkets; Hana even found some supplies inside for herself. There were a few basic backpacks that lined the walls and she took one and filled it with food, water and tools.
Naruto let out a sigh as he walked over and joined his group "the door's shut, we're good for the night" Naruto said his voice tired and low.
"How're you doing boss?" Konohamaru asked and Naruto groaned.
"My village is gone, my friends are probably dead, and I killed two of my former classmates" Naruto said in an exasperated "Kami above… this was all one day?"; a hand fell on his shoulder and he looked to his side and saw it was Hana giving him a look he hasn't seen before.
"I'm sorry; I have no idea what you must be feeling right now" Hana said and Naruto nodded and waved her off.
"It's fine" Naruto said as he reached over and grabbed a candy bar from a box on the counter "so… what's the plan?"; Hana pulled out a map and laid it on the counter and everyone looked at it.
"I say we head to Suna" Hana said pointing to the east and at a hourglass shape printed on the map "they are our nearest allies and might still be up and running; last time we had radio contact they said there wasn't any infected".
"Suna; never heard of it" Naruto said and both Hana and Tenten looked at him with surprise "what? The first time I left Konoha was only a month ago and i spent weeks in a coma".
"You're supposed to know that from you academy days you dunce" Hana said and upon hearing this Naruto blushed in embarrassment and began rubbing the back of his head.
"Yeah uhh… I kinda… wasn't a good listener" Naruto said and Tenten slapped her forehead.
"Look, Suna is in the middle of a large desert; which means little water and fewer people" Tenten said pointing at the great desert "so there's a good chance that they may still be up and running".
"That's a big 'if'" Konohamaru said "not just that, but that's a very long ways away"; upon hearing this Hana and Tenten both realized what he was getting at. "I mean it was what… five or six days travel in the old world?" Konohamaru asked "and now we have infected to think about; how long will that take us, if we live that long?"
"I don't know" Hana said "Konoha only has two allies, Suna and Taki; Taki is further away and the route requires us to go through villages, cross rivers, bridges and mountains". "So that means more infected and a longer trip" Hana said looking at everyone "we don't really have a lot of options"
Everyone was quiet for a moment and Naruto spoke up "I say we shoot our shot in Suna" Naruto said and everyone looked at him "not like we have anything better to do".
"I agree" Tenten said and everyone looked at her "we have to try; and if it doesn't work out then we just try somewhere else".
"I'll go wherever Naruto goes" Konohamaru said and Naruto patted his head; Hana hearing all this nodded and folded up the map.
"We'll leave tomorrow at first light" Hana said "lets get some sleep; anyone up for first watch?"
"I'll do it, I doubt I can sleep that much" Naruto said; everyone nodded at this and Tenten handed Naruto her crossbow. Naruto took it and began to walk to the stairs in the back of the shop to gain access to the roof; Naruto climbed the stairs and opened the door at the top and walked out into the cool night.
Naruto walked to the edge of the roof and look out at the surrounding area with the light of the moon illuminating the forest surrounding the shop and the dirt road; he let out a sigh and sat on the edge of the roof.
'Out of the frying pan and into the fire' Naruto thought as the stress of the situation weighed down on him; suddenly there was a scream from off in the forest and to Naruto's best guess it was from a woman.
Naruto pointed the crossbow in that direction but saw nothing but blackness "fuck" Naruto said as he scanned the wood line; he lowered the crossbow and let out a sigh. Without saying a word Naruto took a seat and stayed on alert as the sounds of the night echoed into the air.
