The Morning at UA
The sun cast its golden rays across UA High, the towering building shimmering in the morning light. Class 1-A gathered in clusters, the chatter of excited students filling the crisp air. Momo stood near the entrance, her usual composed demeanor relaxed as she laughed softly at one of Mina's jokes. Toru leaned in closer, her invisible form gesturing animatedly as they bonded over their shared excitement for the upcoming trip to the Unforeseen Simulation Joint (USJ).
"I've heard the USJ is insane," Mina exclaimed, her voice brimming with enthusiasm. "Like, they've got disaster zones for every possible scenario. I can't wait to test myself out there!"
"I'm excited too," Momo replied, a small smile gracing her lips. "But we'll need to stay focused. It's meant to prepare us for emergencies, not just for fun."
"Oh, come on, Momo!" Toru chimed in, her voice playful. "Live a little! It's not every day we get to do something this cool."
Momo chuckled, but her gaze briefly drifted to the group on the other side of the courtyard. Yui stood with Ochako, Tokoyami, and Asui, her posture casual but her aura commanding. She exuded a quiet confidence that had become a constant since the start of the semester. Momo's mind lingered on their recent match, the intensity of Yui's abilities still fresh in her memory. Her cousin seemed like an entirely different person now—a far cry from the girl she had grown up with.
Yui and the Group
"So, Yui-chan," Asui began bluntly, her large eyes blinking curiously. "Your quirk is kind of… unusual. You can change the size of objects, but you're also super strong and fast. Plus, there's that regeneration thing. Is it a dual quirk like Todoroki's or some kind of mutation?"
Yui's sharp gray eyes flickered to Asui, her expression unreadable. For a moment, the question hung in the air, and the group's attention zeroed in on her. Even Ochako and Tokoyami seemed curious, though they tried to hide it.
"I don't see why it matters," Yui replied coolly, her voice steady. "Quirks manifest differently in everyone. Mine's just… versatile."
Asui tilted her head, her bluntness unwavering. "But it's rare for someone to have abilities that don't align."
Before Yui could respond, Toru's cheerful voice cut through the tension. "Hey, leave her alone! Yui's awesome, and that's all that matters. Besides, quirks are super personal."
Yui's gaze softened slightly as she glanced at Toru. "Thanks."
Momo, standing nearby, overheard the exchange and felt a pang of curiosity herself. Yui's abilities were undeniably extraordinary, but there was something about them that felt… off. She shook the thought away as the group began filing toward the bus, her focus shifting to the trip ahead.
The Bus Ride
The bus ride to the USJ was lively, the chatter of excited students creating a hum of energy. Yui sat near the back with Ochako and Tokoyami, her arms crossed as she gazed out the window. Asui leaned forward from the seat in front of her, clearly still intrigued by Yui's quirk but refraining from pressing further.
Meanwhile, Momo sat with Mina and Toru, their conversation a mix of lighthearted banter and speculation about the day's activities.
"I heard there's a landslide zone," Mina said, her eyes wide with excitement. "I want to see if I can use my acid to melt the debris and make a path."
"That sounds dangerous," Momo replied, though her tone was more amused than disapproving. "But it's a good opportunity to test our quirks under pressure."
Toru leaned in, her invisible presence somehow palpable. "What about you, Momo? Got any plans for showing off that big brain of yours?"
Momo smiled modestly. "I'll focus on strategy and support. That's where I excel."
Arrival at the USJ
The bus pulled into the massive dome-shaped facility, its sheer size leaving many of the students awestruck. The Unforeseen Simulation Joint loomed before them, its entrance flanked by large metallic doors. The air was electric with anticipation as Class 1-A disembarked, their chatter growing louder as they took in their surroundings.
"Welcome, Class 1-A!" A cheerful voice called out, drawing their attention to Thirteen, the space-themed Pro Hero. Her bright demeanor and welcoming smile immediately set the tone.
"This is the Unforeseen Simulation Joint, or USJ for short," Thirteen explained, gesturing to the massive structure behind her. "Inside, you'll find various disaster zones designed to prepare you for real-world emergencies. Today, you'll face simulated scenarios to hone your rescue skills."
The students exchanged excited glances, their eagerness evident. Even Yui seemed mildly interested, though her usual stoic expression remained.
Thirteen's explanation continued as they entered the facility, the cavernous interior revealing a sprawling landscape of artificial environments. From raging rivers to crumbling buildings, each zone seemed meticulously designed to replicate the chaos of real-life disasters.
The Unease
As Thirteen spoke, Momo's attention was briefly drawn to Aizawa, who stood silently near the edge of the group. His sharp gaze swept over the students, his expression as unreadable as ever. When Thirteen asked about All Might's absence, Aizawa held up five fingers in response, a subtle gesture that sparked curiosity among a few students.
"What do you think that means?" Mina whispered to Momo.
"I'm not sure," Momo replied, her brows furrowing slightly. "But it's unusual for All Might to miss something like this."
Yui, standing at the edge of her own group, felt a sudden unease ripple through her. It was subtle at first, a prickling sensation at the back of her neck. Then, her communicator buzzed softly against her wrist. She glanced at it discreetly, her expression unreadable as she read the message:
"Keep your guard up. Be prepared."
The message was simple, but it carried a weight that sent her heart racing. The Alchemist never sent warnings lightly. She tucked the communicator away, her posture shifting slightly as she scanned the room. She didn't know what was coming, but she trusted her mentor's judgment implicitly.
The Attack
The sudden surge of killing intent was like a physical blow, washing over the room with a suffocating weight. Conversations ceased abruptly, and the students froze, their instincts screaming that something was wrong.
Before anyone could react, a swirling black portal opened in the center of the room, its edges crackling with an ominous energy. The air grew heavy, and a sinister presence spilled forth from the void.
Villains.
They emerged one by one, a motley crew of dangerous individuals led by a man with disheveled white hair and hands covering his body. Shigaraki stepped forward, his crimson eyes gleaming with malice.
"Welcome to your first real test," he sneered, his voice echoing through the cavernous space. Behind him, a massive, grotesque figure loomed—the Nomu, its muscular form exuding raw power.
The room erupted into chaos as the students scrambled to process what was happening. Momo's heart pounded in her chest, her instincts screaming at her to take charge. Beside her, Mina and Toru looked equally terrified, their eyes darting around as they tried to make sense of the situation.
Yui's expression remained calm, but her mind raced. The portal, the overwhelming presence—it was nothing like she'd faced before. Her mentor's warning echoed in her mind, and she clenched her fists, her resolve hardening.
Shigaraki's lips twisted into a sinister grin as he surveyed the terrified students. "Let's see what you're really made of."
The Arrival of Chaos
The atmosphere in the USJ grew heavier with every passing second. The cavernous space, which moments ago had been filled with excited murmurs and eager anticipation, now felt suffocating. The students stood frozen, their attention locked on the swirling black portal at the center of the room. It crackled and shimmered with an unnatural energy, its edges bleeding into the air like dark ink on water.
From the portal stepped a man whose disheveled white hair and gaunt frame belied the sheer malice radiating from him. His crimson eyes scanned the group of students, predatory and unblinking, as a twisted smile spread across his face. His voice, soft but laced with venom, broke the suffocating silence.
"Welcome, little heroes," he drawled, his tone mocking. "You've had it easy until now, haven't you? Playing at being saviors, thinking you're invincible. Well, let's see how you handle the real thing."
Behind him, more figures emerged from the portal—an army of thugs, criminals, and misfits, each one more menacing than the last. Some sneered, others grinned with a feral hunger, their eyes gleaming with anticipation. The last to step out was a hulking, grotesque figure, its muscular form almost grotesque in its sheer size. Its blank eyes and stitched mouth gave it an otherworldly appearance, a being crafted for destruction.
The white-haired man spread his arms theatrically. "I am Tomura Shigaraki, and this… is the League of Villains. Today, we're going to teach you what it means to truly fear."
The Transmissions Fail
Thirteen instinctively stepped forward, raising her arms protectively as she addressed the students. "Stay calm, everyone! We're trained for situations like this. Aizawa and I will—"
Her voice faltered as she glanced at the communicator strapped to her wrist. She pressed the button repeatedly, but the screen remained dark. "No signal," she muttered, her voice tinged with worry. She quickly turned to Aizawa. "The transmission equipment is down."
Shigaraki chuckled, the sound sending a chill through the room. "Ah, that would be the work of our friend Static," he said, gesturing to a man stepping forward from the crowd of villains.
Static was tall and wiry, his leather jacket adorned with metallic studs that glinted in the dim light. Sparks crackled between his fingers as he ran a hand through his spiky, bleached-blond hair. His grin was wide and cocky, revealing a row of sharp teeth. He extended his hand, and a burst of electricity arced across the room, causing the remaining equipment to short-circuit with a series of sharp pops.
"Thanks for the intro, boss," Static said, his voice carrying a hint of mockery. "I'll make sure they stay off the grid."
Thirteen's fists clenched. "We need backup," she said urgently, her voice rising. "We can't—"
Before she could finish, Shigaraki's hand twitched. "Kurogiri."
A shadowy figure materialized beside him, its swirling, mist-like form partially obscuring the metallic braces around its neck. Kurogiri's voice was calm, almost polite, as he replied, "Understood, Tomura Shigaraki."
He raised his hands, and the black mist swirled around him, expanding rapidly. It surged toward Thirteen with unnatural speed, swallowing her black hole quirk and redirecting it toward her. She let out a cry of pain as the attack struck her, sending her sprawling to the ground.
The Scattering
Kurogiri's mist didn't stop. It surged outward, enveloping the students one by one. Their cries echoed through the USJ as they were pulled into the void, each of them vanishing into the swirling darkness.
Momo felt the mist wrap around her, cold and suffocating, before everything went black. When she regained her senses, she found herself sprawled on the cracked ground of what looked like a ruined cityscape. The air was thick with dust, and the distant sound of rushing water indicated she was near the flood zone.
Beside her, Toru and Mineta groaned as they struggled to their feet. Toru's voice, usually cheerful, was tinged with fear. "W-where are we?"
Momo helped her up, her mind racing. "It looks like we've been separated. That mist—it's a teleportation quirk."
Mineta clung to Momo's arm, his voice trembling. "We're doomed! This is the end! I knew I should've gone to a normal high school!"
Before Momo could respond, a shadow fell over them. She turned to see Yui standing a few feet away, her expression calm but her posture tense.
"We need to stay together," Yui said, her voice steady. "If we split up, we're as good as dead."
Momo nodded, her instincts kicking in. "Agreed. We need to find a defensible position and figure out where we are."
The Leader of the Zone
Their conversation was interrupted by a sudden gust of wind, so strong it nearly knocked them off their feet. The dust swirled violently, and a figure emerged from the haze. He was tall and lean, his dark hair whipping around his face as the wind seemed to obey his every command. His piercing eyes locked onto Yui, a cold smile spreading across his face.
"So, we meet again," he said, his voice carrying over the howling wind.
Yui's eyes narrowed. "Who are you?"
The man's smile widened. "You don't remember me, do you? I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. You've probably forgotten all about Kenta."
Yui's breath hitched, her composure faltering for a split second. "Kenta…"
"That's right," the man said, his tone dripping with malice. "My little brother. The one you destroyed. And now, I'm here to return the favor."
The wind around him intensified, the ground beneath their feet cracking as the air pressure shifted. Momo stepped in front of Mineta, her mind racing as she tried to come up with a plan.
"We need to work together," she said, her voice firm. "This guy isn't playing around."
Yui's expression hardened, her resolve steeling. "Stay back. He's mine."
The Winds of Vengeance
The air around them grew heavy, oppressive, as Aero's dark gaze locked onto Yui. His presence was like a gathering storm, the raw power of his quirk crackling in the atmosphere. Momo, Toru, and Mineta stood frozen, their instincts screaming at them to run, but the weight of Aero's killing intent rooted them to the spot.
"It's been a long time, Yui Kodai," Aero said, his voice like a blade scraping against steel. His lips curled into a cruel smile, but there was no mirth in his expression. Only malice. "I almost didn't recognize you. But then again, you've changed a lot since middle school, haven't you?"
Yui's stomach twisted into a knot. She took a step forward, her gray eyes meeting his. "Aero," she said, her voice calm despite the storm brewing inside her. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh, don't play dumb," Aero sneered. He raised a hand, and the air pressure around him shifted, the wind whipping into a frenzy. "You think I don't know what happened to Kenta? My little brother?" His voice cracked, the rage spilling out like a dam breaking. "He's dead because of you."
Yui's breath hitched, but her expression remained composed. "Kenta overdosed on Trigger. That wasn't my fault."
Aero's laughter was hollow, echoing off the ruined structures around them. "Trigger? Is that what you're calling it? You think I don't know the truth? He told me everything before he died. He told me how you lured him in. How you used him. How you broke him."
The words struck Yui like a physical blow, but she refused to show it. Her heart pounded in her chest, but her face remained a mask of indifference. "If you're here for revenge," she said, her voice steady, "then you should know you're wasting your time."
Aero's smile twisted into a snarl. "Oh, I'm not wasting anything. I'm going to make you pay for what you did to him. And your little friends here? They'll pay too, for standing with you."
The Battle Begins
Without warning, Aero thrust his hand forward, and the air around them exploded into chaos. A powerful gust of wind slammed into the group, sending Mineta tumbling backward and nearly knocking Toru off her feet. Momo reacted instantly, creating a shield from her quirk and bracing against the force of the attack.
"Stay behind me!" Momo shouted, her voice cutting through the howling wind. "Toru, help Mineta!"
Toru nodded, grabbing Mineta and pulling him to safety behind a pile of rubble. Meanwhile, Momo glanced at Yui, who hadn't moved. Her cousin stood tall, her expression unreadable as her hair whipped around her face.
"Yui, we need a plan!" Momo urged.
But Yui didn't respond. Her eyes were locked on Aero, her fists clenched at her sides. She took a slow, deliberate step forward, the wind tearing at her suit but unable to shake her resolve.
"You think you can scare me?" Yui said, her voice low but carrying a dangerous edge. "You're nothing compared to what I've faced."
Aero's smirk returned, though it was colder now. "We'll see about that."
He raised both hands, and the air pressure around Yui suddenly shifted. It felt like the atmosphere itself was crushing her, pressing against her chest and making it hard to breathe. Yui gritted her teeth, her body trembling as she fought against the invisible force.
"Yui!" Momo shouted, but before she could act, Aero turned his attention to her.
"And you," he said, his tone dripping with disdain. "Always playing the hero. Always standing in someone else's way."
He swept his arm in a wide arc, and a blast of wind sent Momo flying backward. She hit the ground hard, the impact knocking the air from her lungs. Toru cried out and tried to run to her, but another gust sent her sprawling as well.
"Is this all you've got?" Aero taunted, his laughter echoing in the ruined zone. "Pathetic."
Yui's Counterattack
Yui's vision blurred as the pressure around her intensified, but she refused to falter. She reached deep within herself, calling on the strength that had carried her through every trial, every betrayal. She focused her quirk, and the ground beneath her shifted as she altered its density. The pressure around her lessened, and she took a deep breath, steadying herself.
"You talk too much," she said, her voice cold.
Before Aero could react, Yui moved. She shrank a nearby piece of debris to the size of a pebble, then hurled it at him with incredible speed. As it flew, she restored its size and density, turning it into a massive boulder hurtling toward her opponent.
Aero's eyes widened, and he barely managed to dodge the attack. The boulder crashed into the ground behind him, sending up a cloud of dust and debris.
"You think that's enough to stop me?" he growled, but there was a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes now.
Yui didn't respond. She was already moving again, her quirk altering the battlefield to her advantage. The ground beneath Aero's feet shifted, throwing him off balance, while the air around her seemed to thicken, slowing his movements.
"You're nothing," Yui said, her voice like ice. "Just another bully who thinks he's stronger than he is."
The Turning Point
As the battle raged on, Momo regained her footing, her mind racing. She watched Yui fight with a combination of awe and unease. This wasn't the cousin she remembered. This Yui was ruthless, calculating, and terrifyingly efficient.
Momo shook off her hesitation and focused. She couldn't let her cousin fight alone—not against someone like Aero. Summoning her quirk, she created a series of traps: caltrops, flashbangs, and nets designed to slow Aero down and give Yui the opening she needed.
"Yui!" Momo called out. "I'm setting traps—lead him into them!"
Yui glanced at Momo, her expression unreadable, but she gave a slight nod. Together, they worked in tandem, their movements synchronized as they forced Aero into the traps. The flashbangs exploded, blinding him temporarily, while the caltrops slowed his movements.
But Aero wasn't done. With a roar of frustration, he unleashed a massive gust of wind, shattering the traps and sending both girls flying.
"You think you've won?" he snarled. "You're nothing but insects!"
The Final Blow
As Aero prepared to launch another attack, Yui pushed herself to her feet, blood trickling down her temple but her resolve unshaken. She locked eyes with him, her voice steady.
"This ends now."
With a surge of energy, she altered the air pressure around him, compressing it to the point where he couldn't move. Aero struggled, his face contorted in rage, but he was trapped.
Momo stepped forward, creating a weighted net and throwing it over him. The combined effort of their quirks finally subdued him, and he collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
Yui stood over him, her chest heaving as she caught her breath. For a moment, she didn't move, her eyes fixed on his motionless form. Then, slowly, she turned to Momo, her expression softening.
"Thank you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Momo nodded, her own expression a mixture of relief and exhaustion. "We did it. Together."
The Battle Intensifies
The dust settled momentarily, the silence eerie and unnerving, but the reprieve was short-lived. A dark chuckle escaped Aero's lips, his cold, cruel grin sending a shiver down Yui's spine.
"You really thought this was over?" Aero sneered, his voice laced with venom. "You have no idea who you're dealing with."
From the shadows of the ruins, movement stirred. One by one, figures emerged—grizzled men and women, some with visible scars, others with cruel grins that promised pain. Criminals, over a hundred strong, armed with pipes, chains, and quirks that sparked, sizzled, and crackled in the dim light. Their presence was suffocating, their numbers overwhelming.
Momo's eyes widened as her breath caught in her throat. "This… this is too many," she whispered, the weight of the situation sinking in.
Aero's grin widened. "Even if, by some miracle, you manage to survive this, it won't matter." His gaze locked onto Yui, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Because I'll tell everyone exactly who you are. The murderer who killed my brother."
Yui's blood ran cold, her heart hammering in her chest. The accusations clung to the air like poison, and for a moment, she faltered. Momo turned to Yui, her eyes searching for answers, but the shock on Yui's face mirrored her own confusion.
Chaos Unleashed
The criminals surged forward like a tidal wave, their war cries echoing across the battlefield. Yui's hesitation evaporated, replaced by a singular, unyielding resolve. She couldn't let Aero's words destroy her—or worse, drag Momo and the others into the mess she had created.
With a burst of speed that left the ground trembling, Yui launched herself into the fray. Her movements were a blur, inhumanly fast and precise, as if she were a predator unleashed in a sea of prey. Each strike landed with bone-crushing force, her enhanced strength sending enemies flying like ragdolls. She moved like a specter, her form disappearing and reappearing amidst the chaos, her presence a ghostly terror that spread panic through the ranks.
"You'll never understand what it takes to win," Yui hissed under her breath, her voice trembling with fury as she smashed a steel pipe out of an enemy's hands and knocked him unconscious with a brutal uppercut.
Momo's Counterattack
Momo steadied herself, forcing the fear bubbling in her chest to the back of her mind. Her intellect kicked into high gear as she analyzed the situation. Yui was holding her own, but the criminals were too many. If she didn't act fast, they would be overwhelmed.
She activated her quirk, her body glowing faintly as she created a taser in her hand. Her sharp mind quickly formulated a plan. The criminals were advancing through puddles of water left from a damaged pipe.
"This'll do," Momo muttered to herself, her lips set in a determined line.
She hurled the taser into the water, activating it mid-air. Electricity crackled and spread across the puddle like a deadly web. Screams erupted as dozens of criminals convulsed and collapsed, immobilized by the shock.
"Yui, Mineta, keep moving!" Momo shouted, her voice cutting through the cacophony.
Mineta's Last Stand
Mineta, though terrified, found a strange surge of courage amidst the chaos. He used his quirk, pulling sticky purple orbs from his scalp and hurling them into the crowd. The orbs stuck to enemies and trapped them in place, their futile struggles only entangling them further.
"You… you guys better thank me for this later!" Mineta shouted, though his voice wavered as he wiped sweat from his brow.
Yui caught a glimpse of him out of the corner of her eye and smirked despite herself. "Not bad, Mineta. Keep it up."
The Final Confrontation
Aero stood back, watching as his forces fell one by one. He snarled, his pride stinging at the sight. He stepped forward, the wind around him shifting dangerously as his quirk reached its peak. He locked eyes with Yui, a twisted smile on his face.
"So what's it going to be, Yui?" he taunted. "Will you kill me here and now, in front of your little friends? Show them what kind of monster you really are?"
Yui froze, her breath catching in her throat. The weight of his words pressed down on her, the memories of Kenta's lifeless eyes flashing in her mind.
"Shut up," she whispered, her voice trembling.
"What's the matter?" Aero pressed, stepping closer. "Afraid they'll see you for what you are?"
Suddenly, Aero stumbled, clutching his throat. His breathing turned ragged, and he began to cough violently. Blood splattered the ground as his body convulsed, his face contorted in agony. Toru ran forward instinctively, her invisible hands catching him as he collapsed.
"Aero!" she cried, shaking him gently. "What's happening?"
But Aero didn't respond. His eyes rolled back, and with one final, gurgling breath, he went limp in her arms.
Suspicion and Solidarity
The silence that followed was deafening. Yui stared at Aero's lifeless body, her heart pounding as a cold chill ran down her spine. She didn't move, couldn't move, as Momo approached cautiously.
"What… just happened?" Momo asked, her voice low and wary.
"I… I don't know," Yui said, her voice barely above a whisper. She turned to Momo, her gray eyes wide with shock. "I didn't do anything. I swear."
Momo studied her for a long moment, her sharp mind racing through the possibilities. Aero's accusations still lingered in her thoughts, but the genuine horror in Yui's expression made her pause. Whatever had just happened, it wasn't something Yui had planned. Momo forced herself to set aside her suspicions, for now.
Mineta approached, his expression confused. "What's going on? Why'd he just… drop like that?"
Toru, still holding Aero's body, looked up at Yui. "You're not a villain, Yui," she said firmly. "I don't care what he said. I don't believe it."
Momo nodded slowly. "Neither do I. Let's finish clearing this zone and regroup with the others."
Yui swallowed hard, her chest tight as she glanced at Aero's lifeless form one last time. She didn't know what had happened, but deep down, a small, gnawing doubt began to take root.
"Yeah," she said softly. "Let's go."
As the group moved on, Yui's mind churned with unanswered questions. But one thought stood out above the rest, a cold, haunting whisper that refused to be silenced: What am I becoming?
