Sonic's Spark – Chapter 5: Sub-Zero

Sonic, to the outsider, looked like a coward. Simply put, at that moment, he felt undeniably like a coward.

Yet he did feel brave at the same time. Who actually travels to another universe knowing every little detail about what would happen? Not Sonic, for sure. But when the small, cracked barrel was lifted, Sonic was not expecting the reaction he received.

"Oh, hello Bruni! And who's this?" A talking snowman was in front of him, and he was looking directly at him, so he knew he couldn't run away from this situation.

"Uh, hi. My name is Sonic the Hedgehog. I don't suppose you know how to get into that castle over there?" he asked.

"Oh, I do! I happen to know the princesses who live there!"

"So I was right! Royalty do live there!" replied Sonic.

At this, a bit of confusion came over the snowman's face. "I don't mean to be rude or anything, but why exactly do you need to see them? Just curious." He was being genuine, so the hedgehog saw no harm in explaining. Unluckily for him, the snowman was unable to handle this information.

"Whoa! So you're from–"

"Yep."

"And you're–"

"Yes."

"And you need–"

"Well, yes, but I don't know exactly what I need to do there, uh… what was your name again?"

The snowman chuckled. "Oh, right, I'm sorry. My name is Olaf. I just came outside to find a book Elsa dropped down here on the streets."

Sonic nodded, and there was a silence for a moment. Sonic stood up and was about to bid him farewell, when he remembered he had a book with him! He extracted it from his quills and handed the item to Olaf. "When I first saw Bruni, I saw this book with him. Is this it?"

"I think so… There was a cover on the front though. I wonder where it is… Could you possibly find it?" asked the snowman. "I'd go, but it would take me a really long time to get there with my legs."

"I'll just be a second!" said Sonic quickly, dashing back off to the forest. He reached it in a matter of seconds and looked around. Where had he first met the lizard again? He dashed left and right, but just couldn't remember. Then he spotted something out of the corner of his eye.

Flapping under a stone was a slip of paper. Sonic lifted it up, and pulled it out carefully. He didn't stop to read it, and very soon, was next to Olaf again.

"That didn't take you so– (gasp) You got it! Thanks a bunch!" Sonic handed the paper over to him, and he slipped the poster into the plastic front cover. Honestly speaking, this reminded Sonic of doing fetch quests for his friends, but he couldn't remember the main reason why he was doing them.

There was some purpose, he was sure of it, but he couldn't remember what it was. Some sort of… evil guy? It rang a faint bell.

Now Sonic was lost in thoughts. Who was this person he kept remembering, but just could never quite recall? He knew his description, but nothing more. It was so frustrating, but every time Sonic was on the verge of his name, a wall seemed to grow out of the ground, so thick, he couldn't break through.

He shook off the feeling and turned back to his eagerly waiting, new friend. "Well, can you take me into the castle?"

"Sure! Elsa will be glad to hear you helped get her book. Ooh, and I can introduce you two! This will be so fun!"

"I just need to get in there. Not sure about any introductions…" whispered Sonic. Olaf didn't hear him however, as they started walking towards the gate. People stopped to give him strange looks and awkward stares, but at this point, Sonic didn't care. He was getting back to Green Hill soon enough, or at minimum, to Bird Island to get back to Green Hill.

Sonic did feel really cold though. It was only autumn, but as he and the snowman edged closer to the gates, he could feel a certain chill in the air.

"Is it only me who's feeling cold right now?" He looked to the snowman, and before he could take his words back, the snowman replied with a no, which made sense to the speedster. Bruni, who was currently on his shoulder and heating it up, let out a small squeal. That probably meant no.

The pair and Bruni were now outside the castle. It was guarded with gates of what looked to be iron. If he really wanted to, Sonic could break it with a spin-dash, but he wanted to stay incognito for as long as possible.

Obviously, walking around in the village didn't help his case, but it was no problem.

The castle gates opened, as the guards let him through with shocked faces. If the outside looked grand, then, simply put, it was nothing compared to the inside. No words could really be used to describe how magnificent it was. Going inside the castle was just a bit more, but still enough to impress Sonic. They were right outside one of the rooms, and Olaf knocked on the door. Sonic waited, as the door handle turned and opened from the inside.

Olaf started smiling, as Sonic took a deep breath. He reminded himself of what to do one last time.

1. Talk to this Elsa person in the castle.
2. Get to know how this location could help him return home.
3. Travel back home, or at least to Bird Island first to meet up with his crew.

He relaxed a bit, and braced himself once more, should the worst come and hit him.

A/N: To make up for the delay (and possibly disliked last chapter, though I hope not!), I'm uploading two chapters at once, but that's only cos I had some spare time fortunately. Hope this is good!
