Chapter 5: Leia Learns

Dagobah. 3 ABY.

Princess Leia Organa did not know how long she was on Dagobah. Once her training as a Jedi began under Master Yoda, days turned into weeks. Although Leia believed that she and Luke were siblings, and that their father, the legendary and heroic Anakin Skywalker, was now no other than Darth Vader. The very same Darth Vader who stood with her when her home planet Alderaan was destroyed.

Her brown hair was worn in a long, high ponytail, framed by a crown braid on the back of her head. Instead of the white clothes she wore since Hoth, Leia was wearing Jedi clothing; a white tunic with wrist length and belled sleeves, a V-shaped neckline low enough to expose the collar bone and a full mid-thigh-length skirt. She also wore a medium blue vest tabard over her tunic under a pale warm brown obi and dark brown cord belt, with a pattern which was made with embroidery. Her tunic almost matched the pale blue pants and pale beige boots.

Throughout her training on Dagobah, Leia Organa learned the skills of the Force, meditation and lightsaber combat. Leia, despite spending time learning to fight, found these lessons really tough and hard. It was very suffering at first, but as time went on, Leia began learning and improving her techniques. At the same time, she was enhancing her understanding of the Force.

Leia Organa was lying on the muddy ground, while right above her a few Marksman-H control remotes floated in the sky. A little primate was observing the whole sight. Yoda, meanwhile, sat on a tree stump. Right beside the old master was a pile of rocks. As Leia groaned while getting up, Yoda didn't even leave her place.

"Concentrate, hmm." he stated. "Concentrate you must."

Leia only nodded in agreement, for she knew that arguing with the old Jedi master, who, despite being small, was wise beyond centuries, was completely useless.

"Impressed though, I am." Yoda chuckled. "Last longer than last time, you did."

"T-Thank you, Master Yoda." Leia groaned from the pain of the remotes' shots. She felt tired, but to her sadness and misery, she knew that the lesson was far from over. Leia quickly used the Force to grab her lightsaber and ignite it as the remotes began firing again.

"Good. Good." Yoda noted. "To feel the Force, continue. Not let anger fill you, do."

Leia listened carefully. She remembered Yoda's words about the Dark Side very well: Beware the Dark Side. Anger, fear, aggression, the Dark Side of the Force, they were. Once a Jedi starts down the Dark path, forever consume them. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

"Is the Dark Side stronger, master?" Leia asked back then.

"No. Easier, more seductive." Yoda answered. Leia wondered about it. Is that what caused her father to become Darth Vader?

"But how can I know the good from the bad?" Leia wondered. Yoda back then, chuckled.

"When you are calm and at peace, know will you." he answered. "Passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defence, never for attack."

"Like a river, the Force flows through you" the old Jedi Master lectured her. "Learned much you have, in these past three months. And more quickly than any student I have taught before."

"Like my father?" Leia asked while trying to concentrate. For some time, she heard nothing but silence. Yoda did not speak much about Anakin Skywalker. Every question was answered only with silence. This time, however, Yoda finally answered.

"Strong was the Force with Anakin before he became Vader. Yet impatient and stubborn he was. Constantly pushing excel beyond his ability. More sublime, your approach has been."

Just then, a Kwazel Maw appeared out of nowhere, roaring at the girl, who was caught off guard. Roaring again, the monster leapt at Leia, who quickly dodged, while impaling her lightsaber into the Maw's throat, cutting it, its cobalt blue blood spilling out onto both Leia and Yoda. Roaring one last time, the Kwazel Maw collapsed onto the ground, finally dying.

"Yet learned you have not the hazards of using a super-heated blade against a foe made mainly of water." Yoda added.

While Leia continued her lessons, meanwhile, above Dagobah, the Millenium Falcon was jumping out of a hyperspace jump. Losing his black leather vest on Tatooine, Han Solo was now wearing his navy blue jacket he wore on Hoth and Bespin. He was sitting within the cockpit of the Falcon along with Chewbacca. Although he tried to concentrate on the flight, Han's mind was filled with Leia. It has been a couple of months since he left her on Dagobah. He knew it was the right decision; so that Leia could become a Jedi, while also keeping her safe until he could pay his debt to Jabba.

Still, he had to admit that he greatly missed Leia. It seemed like not that long ago, they had a rocky relationship. To him, she was just a spoiled princess. To her, he was just a criminal scum.

"Okay, pal. Get ready to set down." he told Chewie. The Wookie roared in response. R2-D2 appeared at the cockpit, standing between the two pilots.

Han smiled. "It took us so long to get the Falcon back. That Leia should be done with her training. If not, we can stick around until she's ready to go. Now that Jabba's washed his hands of us. I figure it's safe."

He then added. "Besides, I really miss her."

Back on Dagobah, Leia was literally floating as she mediated in the Force. The rocks that were piled up beside Yoda, were now floating around her, while the Grand Master of the fallen Jedi Order sat nearby. With her eyes close, Leia was seeing visions that the Force showed her. She saw Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi sitting together with the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 in a hut.

"The Force is what gives a Jedi their power." Obi-Wan explained. "It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds and penetrates us."

Kenobi then drew out a lightsaber and gave it to Luke. "This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight, a lightsaber. It belonged to your father. He wanted you to have it, but your uncle would not allow it."

With a curious look, Luke ignited the lightsaber and the blue light of the blade illuminated the hut.

"For over thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the old Republic." Obi-Wan spoke in a grim tone. Before the Dark Times, before the Empire…"

Then, she saw Luke waken up while he was hanging up from the ceiling in an ice cave.

Young Skywalker immediately spotted the wampa, the horrible snow monster that attacked him. For Luke it was clear that it was feasting on his dead tauntaun's remains. He had to find a way out of here or else he would also end up in the wampa's stomach. Looking around, Luke suddenly noticed his lightsaber, more specifically his father's lightsaber, stuck in the snow not far away from him. Closing his eyes, Luke relaxed himself, allowing the Force to flow through his body. Soon, his trademark weapon began shaking, eventually flying into Luke's hand. However, his actions brought the attention of the wampa, disrupting its meal. Dropping the remains of the tauntaun it was eating, the wampa ran towards Luke who already freed himself, and acting quickly, swung his lightsaber upwards, cutting the monster's hand off completely.

However, another wampa was also in the cave and while Luke cut off the hand of the first wampa, the second one stroke the young Jedi behind with his paw, cutting Luke's back with his sharp claws, as sharp as the claws of the first beast. Luke, however, sliced the wampa's neck, killing it and raced outside only to be met with the cold Hoth weather. He stumbled, blood coming from his injury made by the wampa, and eventually collapsed into a snow heap. But Luke decided not to give up. He tried crawling his way back to the cave, but the body was already becoming still.

Then he heard a voice.

Luke… Luke…

Luke looked up as a snowstorm began and looked astonished. Ben Kenobi was standing before him, looking the same as he did when he met him on Tatooine. However, this time Ben was tinted blue, as if he was a hologram.

"Beeeen…" Luke moaned in pain and exhaustion, trying to reach him.

"Luke," Ben instructed. "Go to the Dagobah system and learn from Yoda. The Jedi Master that taught me."

"Mmmm… B-Bennnnnnnn…!" Luke moaned, as the vision disappeared. His eyes were closing, he was losing blood. But then he saw a pair of feet and a heard a familiar voice.

"Luke!" Han cried out. "I would've been sooner, but my tauntaun died."

Han dashed towards Luke. "Hold on kid," he said as he held Luke's head when the young commander muttered. "Dagobah system… must go to Dagobah. Find Master Yoda… train as Jedi."

"Jedi?"

"Ben, he told me…" Luke continued to mutter as he was losing consciousness. Han checked his pulse out of fear.

"Luke! Don't do this buddy! Come on, give me a sign here!" he pleaded in despair. Suddenly Luke grabbed Han by his blue winter coat and scarf, looking at.

"You! Must go to Dagobah!"

And with that, Luke took one final breath before leaving for the afterlife as Han watched at the dead body of his friend in sorrow and pain before setting up a tent for himself as the storm went on and on.

After that, she saw the Echo Base and the scene that was happening. Luke's frozen body was lying on the dug up grave, while some rebel soldiers were burying him while Leia and Han mourned the loss along with the rest of the Rebellion. However, what brought Leia attention was that Luke was holding a lightsaber.

The lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker.

"Master… I see it…" Leia breathed out. "The lightsaber… the lightsaber of Knight Skywalker. I must find it. But the crystal. The crystal inside it has lost its power. I… I see a cave. A cave full of crystals. On a planet… full of ice… like Hoth…"

"Ah," the Jedi breathed out. "The crystals. The heart of a lightsaber, the crystal is. Retrieve this crystal, you must. To the crystal caves of Illum, you must go."

Leia then returned to the ground while the rocks slowly fell. She then approached Yoda who was limbing, holding his cane tight.

"Normally, construct her own hilt, a Jedi would." he continued explaining. "Yet scarce are supplies for a lightsaber. But first…" he pointed out to the cave in the distance.

Leia immediately understood; she must go inside. However, a strange, cold and haunting feeling was coming out from the cave. "Master Yoda? What's in there? It feels… cold."

"Strong with the Dark Side, the cave is." Yoda explained. "A place of evil, it is. Into it, you must go."

"What's in there?" the princess of Alderaan asked with caution.

"Only what you take with you." Yoda only replied. Gulping, Leia nodded and was about to take the lightsaber, but the Jedi master stopped her.

"Your weapons, need them you will not."

Leia hesitated, but left the weapons alone. Before entering the cave, she was called out by Yoda.

"To me whatever happens, run for my help do not." Yoda instructed her, causing the girl to look back at him with concern and fear. "Do as the Force, tells you."

Leia nodded hesitantly and was about to leave, but stopped. "Once I've completed this task, and repaired my brother's lightsaber, will I be a Jedi?"

Yoda sat with silence before finally answering. "One final task, you will face… and then a Jedi you will be."

"Now go, child." Yoda then instructed her. "With a clear mind, find the crystal, you will and have your weapon completed."

Waving her hand, Leia entered the cave, leaving him alone. As time went on, reaching nightfall, Yoda sat on a log, allowing some mosquitos to fly around him until they suddenly dispersed. Yoda was not surprised. He felt a cold presence, full of hate, anger and pain. Looking up, Yoda saw within the fog a tall silhouette fully clad in black. Its black cape waving by the wind. A mechanical guttural breathing filled the jungle of Dagobah.

"Vader. Expected you, I have." Yoda spoke.

"I have come for my son, Jedi. Where is he?" Darth Vader immediately stated his business, ignited his crimson red lightsaber.

Yoda only sighed, looking up at the Sith lord with sad eyes. "Sad I am to say, find your son here, you will not."

"Do not toy with me, Jedi." Darth Vader warned him. The old Jedi only chuckled in response as he continued to sit on the log.

"Too old am I for games, Vader." he told the Sith.

Yes, I am quite surprised to see you're still alive." Vader admitted. He always hoped of finding Kenobi, but he never thought he would ever encounter a still-alive Yoda.

"Many surprises will there be for you this day…" Yoda then spoke and looked up, grinning like a gremlin. Before Darth Vader could do something, Yoda reached out his left hand and Force lightning stroke the Sith Lord, causing him to groan in pain, while using his hand to deflect the lightning.
