The dorm section of the campus was noticeably big. It was divided into five main buildings, Enterprise Hall, Colombia Hall, Challenger Hall, Discovery Hall, and Atlantis Hall, named after the first five warp-capable vessels in Star Fleet. Steven was assigned to Challenger Hall he was to report to them to receive his room assignment. The Halls were at various locations and according to the map that Steven brought it was due south, so he made his way. Challenger Hall was not difficult to spot as each hall was big enough to accommodate tens of thousands of students. Of course, not all cadets stayed on the grounds but most of them did, it was part of the standard four-year program. He made his way to a gigantic building as a makeshift sign read "New Cadet check in" He made his way and waited in one of four lines. It was a low turnout compared to past years due to the Frontier Day incident a couple of years ago. He made his way to the front lines and saw a Vulcan woman, the dark pip on her collar indicated she was she was a chief petty officer one of the many NCOs. After the war Star Fleet decided to give NCOs more power over certain situations. He looked over at her and said in a calm voice "Name and division cadet" He replied, "Steven Stevenson Operations, engineering" She nodded and went to the metal case behind her pulled out two things and put both down on the table one after another. "She placed the shiny metal Star Fleet Delta on the table "This is your ID badge; it will help you get in and out of buildings and can also be used as a communicator in a crisis. She then placed down a gold device that he recognized "This is your cadet communicator, it can interphase with any terminal on campus, and it allows you to make outside calls. It is preloaded with the contacts for your unit mates, it will also allow your instructors to communicate with you. Inside you will find a copy of your schedule and the replicator codes to replicate another uniform if needed. Please read the introduction instruction section to find out your next step, have a good day"
Steven made his way into the labyrinthian building the first step the communicator told him was to report to the quarter master's office on the east side of the building, so he made his way there. The quarter master's office was more of a cargo bay than an office. It was busy with people in Starfleet uniforms going all over the placing carrying creates and the sound of rumbling from industrial replicators. There was a large desk at the end of the bay he made his way to it catching the attention of the Bolian attendant who came up to him and asked, "How may I help you?" "I am Cadet Steven Stevenson I have come to get my uniform" "Ah I see let me get it" he then turned around to a large shelf with several small cubby holes with boxes in them each one had a name. He went over to one and saw the right one taking the box out and putting it on the desk. Steven reached for it and the Bolian interrupted him and said, "This box contains five uniforms, a pair of boots, and an engineering tool belt each piece and every piece you replicate will have your ID tag in them if they are found you will be given a demerit you understand?" Steven looked puzzled but went on anyway nodding picking up his equipment and saying goodbye to the attendant.
According to the communicator he was to head directly to his room where he would most likely meet his unit mate. As he was carrying his supplies, he had several questions. Why wouldn't they just beam my stuff to my room? Why were they having me run around? According to his room assignment, he was assigned to room 31 B which was on the second of the east wing, he quickly made his way up to the room which he was able to seamlessly access with the key in his ID badge. He opened the door to see a room with three bunk beds for its six occupants simulating a well-rounded crew with command, science, tactical, security, medical, and of course in his case engineering. As he came into the room, he looked over to see the unmistakable pointed ears of a Vulcan pointing back at him as the large figure was kneeling over the bottom of his bed placing his box on the bunk. Steven smiled as he said to the figure "tonk'peh" The large figure grunted and turned around and Steven's smile faded as he realized he was not talking to a Vulcan but a Romulan. The Romulan moved his head around like a bird of prey bobbing his head up and down trying to get a read of a strange monkey that had wandered into its nest. The Romulan flared his nostrils smelling the vorta with his enhanced senses. "You, you are vorta right?" He gulped and said "Yes... I am... my name is Steven" The Romulan replied "My name is D'Tallaa, I have never met a Vorta before, I did not know there were any in Starfleet" Steven replied "Well... I am the first one" "Hmm I see."
Their talk was interrupted by the sounds of the door opening and in walked a human. The woman was a little taller than Steven she had neat short golden reddish hair and bright blue eyes and she also carrying her box. She smiled and said "Hello fellow cadets and unit members my name is Allison Silverman but people call me Ally" Steven smiled and said "Hello Ally I am Steven Stevenson this is D' Tallaa" Alley smiled back "Great, I am meeting new species and civilizations already, never met a Romulan or a Vorta before, be great to work with you" She then went about finding her bunk each one was assigned to a specific person and Steven discovered he was in the bunk above D' Tallaa, he was weary of the Romulan but he could do it. He placed his box on the bunk and placed his pack on it as well luckily each person had an assigned closet with storage space and a space for hanging clothes. The door sounded as the next person came in, she was, Bajoran with dark black hair and bright green eyes, she was also very thin, but well-built and athletic. She came through the door with a self-determined attuite as she strode in only breaking as she saw Steven, but she quickly and confidently introduced herself "Hello all my name is Jara Kirla" The group made their introductions, and they went back to their business. She went to work unpacking her things in a hurried but precise fashion every moment designed for maximum efficiency. A few moments later they were joined by another, a Klingon. The young man timidly made his way into the room, he was much softer spoken than a usual Klingon would be as his eyes danced around the room reading the situation "Well this quite the motley crew we have assorted for our academy escapades at the very least, this should be interesting, my name is Farak it's a pleasure to meet you all"
The Klingon was well-spoken and mannered, not a hair of his short brown top out of place, and his outfit was perfect as if he had taken a lot of time to prepare it. He simply bowed as the introductions were made and he went to his bunk. The last member of the unit was most usual as the door opened everyone paused as the unmissable shape of a Cardassian came through the door. The man was broad-shouldered as usual for most of his species, what was most unusual was he had a beard on his chin going up to his cheek and replied in an unusual way for a Cardassian "M.. My name is Radal Galark, it... It is nice to meet you all" He then shyly moved over to find his bunk which happened to be below the one Cadet Jara who never took her eyes off Galark who looked at her for a second and turned away as he could not bear to look her in the eye. After a few minutes, everyone got settled when they heard a ping at their door and a gravelly voice said, "Section Chief Kroter" Every one of the Cadets stood at attention as the man entered their unit dorm. He was tall and older than your typical Starfleet type he was also an Aenar a rare visually blind dwindling subspecies of Andorian that was in danger of dying out "Well, Well Is not this an interesting group, a Human, a Klingon, a Romulan, a Bajoran, a Cardassian, and a Vorta. This is just like a reunion, reminds me of the war. My name is Section Chief Kroter, I oversee this wing of the Challenger Hall. For now, all you need to do is to get dressed Commandant Janar, will be speaking in the central plaza to all new Cadets he will explain the rules, the speech starts at 13:00 I suggest you be there, and you are dismissed" Without saying another word the section chief left the room, and it fell silent.
