A/N Sphygmus, you're right, for most of the episode, the creepy MIB guys were watching things. And yes, they did seem to know Marcie was invisible and on the verge of a meltdown and did nothing until Buffy captured her. It's never explained how they know, anymore than it's explained who they really are or what ultimately happened to Marcie and the other kids. But Wolfram and Hart would serve as a good explanation (as well as any corrupt organization willing to exploit damaged children).

"I thought Cordelia was campaigning for May Queen." Jesse asked as he passed a sign with Harmony's picture on it.
"She was." Xander answered. "Then last week a Magic induced hallucination attacked her and left her with some scars. Sure they're barely visible and she can cover them up, but she's only had a week to try to deal with something she only partly remembers or understands. I don't think May Queen is a priority right now."
"Too bad, I'd have voted for her."
"Of course you would, you're still a little hung up on her."
"Yeah, well, I've been crushing on her for like five or six years, I got used to crushing on her. But I may be willing to move on, I just haven't found anyone I'm willing to move on to. Yet. But I am working on it."
"She's still in the running for May Queen." Faith told him. "I heard some of the people talking, she's just not actively campaigning and Harmony's taking advantage and covering up Cordelia's pictures with her own."
"I love Spring!" They heard Cordelia declare. "Especially me in Spring fashions."
"She's trying really hard to act normal." Xander decided. "She's just not feeling it."
"I can't blame her." Faith sympathized. "Unlike most of the people around here, she actually held on to some of the memory of what happened and I don't think it's going away. We might have to help her to deal, to tell her she's not crazy."
"What's Diana say?" Jesse asked.
"That if Cordelia can handle the truth, we should tell her. But to wait a little awhile and see if she tries to convince herself it never happened or if she tries to go looking for more information, like you two did. Or if it looks like she's struggling. Diana understands the need for secrecy, she just doesn't like it."
Mr. Giles approached the three and stiffly addressed Faith. "Miss Lahaine, we may have a problem in the school. I attempted to call your Watcher, but she didn't pick up the phone."
"Like you, she has two jobs. Watcher and Teacher, only she teaches at the college."
"Oh, yes. I forgot."
"So what's the problem?"
"A student was attacked in the boy's locker room. Possibly by a ghost."
"I'm pretty much passed the 'you're not serious' reaction at this point." Xander decided. "Because I honestly don't think he's trying to prank us, I think he knows ghosts are real. Are they real?"
"Yes." Mr. Giles nodded. "The young man who was attacked, says he heard a girl giggling just before a baseball bat floated in front of him and struck him several times."
"I take it ghosts can move things?" Jesse asked. "And notice I'm also taking this seriously. But after vampires, bug demons and my friends being possessed by hyenas, ghosts seem almost normal in comparison."
"Yes, ghosts can move things, are even capable of possessing people themselves." Mr. Giles affirmed.
"So who was attacked?" Faith asked.
"Mitchell Fargo."
"Oh, baseball jock Cordelia's currently dating." Xander nodded. "And her escort to the Spring Formal."
"Anything else I should know?" Faith asked. "Like how to find a ghost or how to stop a ghost or anything really?"
"The ghost apparently left a message on the wall 'look'."
"Look? Look at what?" Jesse questioned.
"The ghost is seeking something." Giles answered. "Ghost often have unresolved business and attempt to find answers. When they can't find those answers, they become increasingly angry and lash out, as this ghost is."
"You're sure it's a ghost?" Faith asked. "Any other options, like an invisible demon?"
"I am unaware of any demons that are invisible. But Magic may be a possibility. I will do some research and see if there are any other possibilities." Mr. Giles decided. "Please stop by the Library before you head home for the day, unless another incident occurs, of course." He moved stiffly away from the three teens.
"If he gets anymore stiff he's going to snap in two." Faith muttered. "And can he sound anymore condescending and disapproving? I get that he doesn't approve of my situation or a hunter team being brought in to do what he considers my job, but it's also none of his damn business. The only reason Diana told him is because he'd recognize a hunter team doing it's job and ask about it. She wanted to ward off questions from him. And you just know he'd stick his nose in my business, given the attitude he's been flashing."
"The fact that he's telling you about this so called ghost means he expects you to do something about it." Xander shook his head. "And this ghost is willing to attack people, if you can't see it coming, how could you do anything about it anyway?"
"I've got better than average hearing as part of the Slayer gig. Not as great as it was when I was the Hyena Queen, but still pretty good. But yeah, I don't want to be fighting anything right now. I've got a bigger priority."
"Then Jesse and I'll keep an eye...and ear out." Xander decided. "I had incredible hearing while I was Hyena King. I wonder if I've got any leftover?"
