I gasped as I opened my eyes, blinking the black spots from my vision. All I could see is the gray stone ceiling of the room I am in, feeling the crumpled grass my body was on top of.

"Where the Hel am I?", I said, coming to my senses, atop the patch of surprising comfortable grass. I could feel the stiffness of bones as I struggled to get up, having to use the wall next to me to help stabilize my legs.

"Wait my legs?" I looked down to see the bite marks on my pants but I didn't feel any pain in them. Pulling up my pant leg to see, 'Nothing?', not even a scar to show where the rats damn near clawed my foot off. "What the Hel is going on", I looked around to see what healed me, though all I saw was a single chest in the middle of the room. Slowly, I walked to see what supplies could be in it,' Maybe there is something that could help me', when all of a sudden.

"No! Stop!"A voice yelled out, startling me as the chest opened up in a snarl, revealing a full set of sharp and jagged teeth with a spiky, serrated tongue, surprising and even causing me to stumble back and making the blood in my veins freeze as when I went to my sword it was gone. ' Did I drop it?', but I have no time to dwell on it,' Damn it, there are no vital points to target so punching it is out of the question'. Just as it went to close in on me I could see the image of someone,' Is that a man?', appearing out of thin air, slicing the chest monster leaving a visible scar on its body, " Get back!", he said as he covered himself in his cloak disappearing again. Howls of pain came from the chest monster as it spun around trying to find the man again before it turned its attention back on me.

Getting to my feet, hoping to see if there was a spare weapon around, looking at the monster again only to see it stop in its tracks before it seemingly decayed into dust leaving only a gold ring and some kind of silver cup. " Are you alright?", said the man, as he pocketed the cup and inspected the ring.

" I'm ok, but the better question is who are you?", questioning him.

" Sewer inspector, now who are you?", he quired back.

'Ok, so he is lying to my face but it's not like I can push him for answers without a weapon….. screw it might as well call him out', I thought.

" Why would there be a sewer inspector in a sealed off sewer?", I asked.

" Don't worry about it, just know that you aren't allowed to be down here, Council orders."

" Well then I have some questions for you, first of all why are you here, second of all why did that monster just crumble like that, third of all how did you just turn invisible like that, I just want the truth". I demanded answers from this man.

He breathed in and breathed out looking dead in my eyes, " Ok then truthfully, I'm a thief trying to get out of the Councils radar, as for why the mimic crumbled like that is because the dungeons corruption has consumed it completely, and I turned invisible thanks to the royal cloak that allows one to turn invisible".

'Well then….. thats a lot of new information to take in, but I think I can trust him but just to make sure'. I thought before saying, " Alright, so you say you're a thief so then how can I trust a word you say"?

" Well considering that I was the one to patch you up and save your life when I could've just let you bleed out on the stone floor but no, I spent crucial supplies on you so a thank you would be nice". He spat out, with a scowl on his face.

" Ok, calm down I believe you just needed to make sure", I said as I put my hands up in a calming gesture." Thank you for saving me, I assume it was with a health potion"?

" No problem, and yes it was and now I only got one left", he said, " Anyway, I have to ask why is a northman down in the dungeon, especially one so underequipped"?

" I am here on a self-imposed quest to eliminate the corruption plaguing the sewers before it makes its way to the surface". I declare, before admitting," As for why I am underequipped, it's because I lost my sword and I didn't expect that the monsters would be so strong".

" So you really thought you could just come down here kill a monster and then go back up, no problem"?, he said in a bewildered tone. " Are you that stupid or are you just arrogant as all hell"?

" I will admit it is probably equal parts both, but I won't let it stop me from killing this corruption before it ends the world"!

" Ok then well it seems I don't have anything else to do I will be joining you on your quest" he declared, surprising me greatly.

" Uhm why"? I questioned. ' I don't understand, why would a thief want to help prevent potential society collapsing chaos that would benefit criminals'?

" Because you seem genuine in your intentions, and if you really want to end this evil then you need to be better prepared for it.". He said, " So listen closely as I show you the ropes of this dungeon stuff".

As I listened to his wisdom I realized that this quest of mine just became leagues more difficult
