The sound of a woman talking woke her up. She tried to get back to the sweet sleep she was having when her well trained mind took over instinctively.
She rolled off the bed and took a fighting stance instantly. Her head moved from side to side as she studied the room she was in. It was lavish and well furnished. Most importantly, there was no threat. The voice she'd heard was from a female newscaster on TV mounted on the wall.
Yelena moved closer to the TV to pay attention to what she was saying.
"Everywhere was hit. The Carribean, Italy, France, China, the US, South America, Somalia, Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Siberia, Ukraine, Japan, Korea. The world felt this attack. Four hundred and twenty missiles with a four hundred and twenty first hitting a newly discovered island in the North Sea area of the Atlantic. This was an attack felt by the world. The whole world felt the vibrations of this sonic missiles. This Spawned Missiles attack, as some are beginning to call it, was launched in the UK. The British government has denied knowing about the attack prior to when it began and the UN supports their claim. John Major's words were 'we had no fore knowledge of the attack. All things considered, we apologize for the incompetence of our government. We apologize not only to the citizens of the United Kingdom but to the world at large. We will try to investigate this Missiles attack and get to the bottom of things. Those behind this will be brought to justice, I assure you.' So Victor what do you think about the Prime Minister words?"
The screen was divided and a blonde man appeared on the other half. "All things considered," Victor said with a chuckle as he repeated what the minister had said, "he did the correct thing by apologizing. But an apology won't be enough I fear. However I believe that this would have been worse if these missiles targeted metropolitan areas. From the reports we got and are still receiving the missiles targeted and laid waste to some strange places. Old mining sites, abandoned facilities, abandoned WWII military bases, multiple islands, empty forest, and even some submarines. Pretty strange places right. This made me wonder if this is really a terrorist attack."
"What makes you think so Victor?" The woman on the other side of the screen asked.
"The forests that were attacked, this sonic missiles, as some scientists are calling them, left unsual craters after their blasts. I don't believe this to be craters, I believe them to be secrets bases, hidden underground facilities. If the targeted submarines didn't give you a clue then the targeted caves should have. This was a surprise attack by the government against terrorism and I applaud them for it. Whether they will come out to admit it I don't know, but I feel that people are over reacting to this attack. The initial blasts did nothing to the civilians, the few accidents and deaths that occurred were due to the vibrations of the sonic missiles. I believe some houses collapsed in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. I sympathize with those who suffered during this attack or lost someone dear to them but we should all rejoice that a great evil has been bombed out of this world."
"Thank you, Victor," the woman said when Victor paused. "What do think about what one of the missiles did to the North Sea environs of the Atlantic Ocean, a place where a lot of people are now calling the Mirage Zone, because of the strange events happening there. Events like electromagnetic storms, strange matter transformations, a new type of weather which is exact opposite of winter, with fire and what a Meteorologist have dubbed flameflakes."
Victor was obviously worried about this. "I don't know what caused this, or why the Spawning Missile hit this island that was seen by many satellites just before it got destroyed. Why was this island there and how was it hidden, is a question the government should answer. What was on this island that caused it to react like this to the Spawning Missile and then go on to destroy North Atlantic, turning it to Mirage Zone, is another question they should answer. I seriously think that this thing is going to cause ecological problems for us here on earth. We should stop calling out for who launched this missiles and start thinking of how to fix this problem. There have been reports that the effect is spreading and has reached atmosphere already..."
Yelena picked up the remote and switched off the television. She threw the remote to the bed when she started hearing clicking noises.
She looked down at herself and noticed that she was still wearing her skintight leather suit but she looked clean like she just had a bath. She wondered who bathed her.
She stepped out of the room and closed the door behind her. She tried to be silent but it was hard because the house was made of wood and glass. Just by the door of the room she stepped out of was a staircase. She went down the stairs, following the clicking sounds she was hearing.
She got to the sitting room and found it empty of anyone. It was even more lavish than the room she woke up in. Floor to ceiling panoramic windows, white chairs, golden rugs, artworks with crystalline structure.
She didn't lazy around though, she followed the noise to the dinning room and finally saw its origin. Someone was typing on a laptop, his hands were moving faster than her eyes could follow. She noticed that he was tensed and it made her know that he was aware of her presence.
She decided to ask the first thing that jumped to the front of her thoughts. "Where you the one who gave me a bath?"
He tensed more than even before. She noted this. He was either scared of her or found her voice enticing. He wouldn't be the first if it was the former or latter.
He finally stopped typing but did not turn around. "In a way, I might have... yes. I created a sonic shower when I couldn't think of another way to clean you up. I used it on you and it cleaned quite well."
"That would explain why I feel dry rather than wet," she said sensually and was amused to see his reaction to this. He went red faster than he'd been typing. "You do love your sonic toys, don't you?"
He relaxed and she moved around to sit atop the dining table itself. She faced him and made sure her eyes were on his face. Surprisingly, he didn't look away. He stared directly into her eyes. His green eyes she was certain will make him a ladies man when he's older.
"It is a thing I have always been curious about." Harry Potter told her. She raised a delicate eyebrow. "I grew up around loud people."
She couldn't help snickering. He smiled and she watched him fully relax. A mistake, she will not call him out for yet.
"Your Spawning Missile and Spawned Missiles are all over the news." He didn't react like she had been expecting him to. He didn't flinch or even look sad. Dare she say he looked acceptive of his actions.
"Once again the world has shown me that I can't let them keep naming my inventions. As if the Pottertizer was not enough," he looked really sad that his inventions lacked respectable names.
"You killed hundreds," she said with a smirk.
"It was a things of necessity. I feel sorry for the innocents that suffered for it, but when has the innocent not suffered in the storm," he said with a shrug. "It is where they chose to be, inside the storm. Me... I'll ride the storm. I'll be the storm."
"I think you could," she assured him. "It was why you fascinated me. You have a drive I've seen in only one person other than myself. Many are oblivious to the blaring fact that you are a boy with an a aim, a boy with a goal. Someone who has a lot to prove."
Potter gave her a dazzling smile. Light hit his emerald eyes and she found herself unable to look away from them. "I thank you for the admiration. But I don't think that was why you decided to abduct me."
Schooling her face she wondered what to tell him. It took some time and a lot of thoughts before she decided to tell him the truth. "You must know by now that I went through the Bio-adaptoid process to become a Super Adaptoid. The process was completed when they also made me a cyborg."
Potter frowned. "Adaptoid, another ugly name for such high tech."
She gave him a charming smile. "Years back I was captured by HYDRA and turned to a Super Adaptoid. Thankfully they left some part of me normal. My eyes are high tech bionics, my back, arms, and legs also. There are some strange implants in my legs and head that if I could could explain their functions I'm sure you could understand them. There was a risk to my heart if they tried doing the same to my chest so they left my chest and belly alone. Some parts of my brain are mechanical also. HYDRA did all this to me and then brainwashed me. Their so called initiation. I worked for them for years but my abilities were more useful in AIM since HYDRA was still trying to stay under the radar so I was transfered to AIM. My second year at AIM I was sent to acquire a blood sample of the mutant Magneto. During this mission I encountered one of Magneto's best, Mystique. She was good, very good, and would have killed me if I was not an Adaptoid. She could adapt too, she was a shape shifter but it was more like she was biokinetic because she could copy people right down to their DNA and could even use their powers to an extent. I succeeded in defeating her but was stopped from killing her when her companion, one Irene Adler, entered a precognitive trance. It was a power my Adaptoid part had never experienced so I tried to copy it secretly during that mission. This led to Mystique escaping her fate."
A smile was perfectly etched on her face but her brown eyes were hard and cold. "When I was free and had no immediate mission that would take too much time, I tried using the power. When the Adaptoid was in a vision, a vision about you, I was able to break through the brainwashing. I couldn't escape after then because HYDRA had my remote but I was assured by the vision I had that I will be free one day if I ever come across you. The vision was about what happened this last four days."
"So it was all staged?" Potter asked, disappointment obvious in his tone.
"No, I merely just guided things to go the right way." She gave him a curious look. "What, did you enjoy the experience?"
"Some," he acknowledged, eyes darting to his laptop and he started typing with just one hand. "I asked that because I hate dancing to people's tunes."
"I can understand that. Do you know how many times I wanted to turn into the Hulk and pummel Strucker and Killian to the ground?" She said to him. "Now that you have me all to yourself what are your plans for me?" The question was accompanied with a sultry smirk.
"Hmmm. Shouldn't I be asking you that?"
His eyes were back on her now. "You got the price now it's up to you to decide what is to be done with me. I'm wanted by so many organisations and i guess HYDRA, AIM and other terrorist groups have now joined the race. They don't have me, you do, so it is your decision to make."
Potter stopped typing and looked at her. "I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. If this is what you want, I will gladly follow it and make use of your talents. I promise to respect and appreciate your services."
"Good," she said. She was happy he accepted. There was a lot she saw in that vision about her future and she wanted to experience most of them and that will only be possible if she's under his employ. "Now what will you have me do for you."
"I told you earlier that from now on I want to ride the storm," Potter said seriously and she gave him a nod. "I need to prepare to start playing in the big league, be ready for the big games. Be prepared to face the big guns and have a couple of them myself. For that I'll need money, which I already have, and someone to protect me from the bad boys and girls."
"So you want me to be your glorified bodyguard," she said with a frown.
"Bodyguard and trainer," Potter clarified. "I might know karate, but you are on another level in the martial arts field. Your file said that after HYDRA brainwashed you you were trained by the Taskmaster himself. I couldn't help giving you some upgrades when you were asleep. The first thing I did was find and remove all the backdoors HYDRA left in you. They can't control you anymore. I upgraded your Adaptoid to now have a memory like mine, photographic and eidetic. You are also now more durable because I used one of my Pottertizers to build you stronger bionic parts. You are now adamantium covered in synthetic skin tissue and skin grafts. You can now think faster than before and do many other things with your brain. Last but definitely not the least you are capable of using any power you have ever seen and analysed whenever you want to."
"So you did see me naked," was all she said when he was done speaking.
He went beet red for the second time today. "I didn't state otherwise. I just said I bathed you with a sonic shower, you just assumed you were clothed."
In a blink blink she leaped down at him and had him against the wall, her hands squeezing his neck. "You led me to assume something else when you said you sonic bathed me when you couldn't think of another way to clean me up," She said tonelessly. She relaxed her grip on his neck when he was almost choking.
"I'm sorry." Potter coughed. "I had to clean you up. And... and it's not something I've never seen before. I'm a doctor, you know. Not a medical practitioner, I admit, but I'm still a doctor."
Yelena began to laugh. "You should have not relaxed when I smiled at you. If you were still tensed and on guard, I'd have never gotten the drop on you."
She saw Potter's eyes widened then he began to cough. He sneezed on her face and she moved away on impulse. Harry rolled away, took her both hands to the back and pressed her front against the wall. One of his hand kept a tight hold on her wrists and the other put pressure on her shoulders, then he leaned heavily on her. She could have pulled away simply because she was stronger than him but she was patiently waiting to hear what he had to say.
"What is this, some domineering competition?" He asked with a tight voice, he was using all his strength to hold her down.
"This is your training, Lehrling," she said, chuckling. He was using his entire weight to keep her down but it will soon prove to be his undoing.
Him using his weight to keep her pressed to the wall unbalanced his body. He forgot about her legs or might have thought them to be unimportant. Her right leg bent back by the knee, forming a v, and went up from in between his widespread legs to kick him heavily on the waist.
Harry groaned and let her go instinctively. She moved to the side quickly for him fall and he would have hit his head on the wall if she didn't take him by the collar and push him back. He groaned again, placing his hand on his back and another on his waist. He went over to his chair which had fallen when she'd leaped at him, picked it up and sat gently, down into it wooden embrace.
"If you expect me to complain then I'm going to disappoint you. We are going to have some good time together both of us. I'm ready to soak up all you have to teach me," the young doctor told her with a sharp grin. "If you are to become my bodyguard though you will not be able to do it as Yelena Belova."
Yelena cocked her head to the left and thought about it. He was right. He was going to become a bigger public figure and could not be seen with someone who is wanted all over the world. It took her just a few minutes to come up with a new name. "Hello, I'm Helena Belladonna, nice to meet you, sir," she said to him in perfect American accent. She smiled when she saw his expression of shock. "I was once an Agent of SHIELD and a Russian spy."
"There goes my plan of forming an acronym for you like Tom." She heard him mutter. He didn't explain and instead went on. "My few years as a professor helped me make a lot of connection. I have someone who can fix you up with new identity documents including school certificates and international papers. I will do the internet work needed to make you a new person. After I settle some things here we will move back to London."
"That is nice and all but I'll be needing a new look," she said thoughtfully.
Harry began to smile. "You only need to use your Adaptoid powers for that. You just need to do a focused meditation and get used to all the upgrades I added to you. Among those upgrades is a hardlight holographic imager. You can become whoever and whatever you want to be and can even turn invisible."
Yelena closed her eyes and accessed all the upgrades he added to her. The information that entered her brain was almost a shock. It was like her brain was now connected to her entire body and she was now very aware of the functions of all her body parts. Before she'd have had to do physical tests to get a hang of her abilities. Now it felt like she could just reach out with her mind and do things easily, easier that before.
Something came to her notice. He gave her a self flight ability, wings to be exact. White retractable wings. Yelena decided to concentrate on that later. It was not something she couldn't do with her adaptive powers anyway so it didn't give her that much of a thrill.
When she felt she got the hang of it, she slowly started to change her appearance. Her brown eyes became gray, her hair lengthened till it tips touched the middle of her back. She lightened the shade of her hair till t was just a few shades from being platinum blonde. She closed the cleft in her chin, reduced the width of her forehead and gave herself contoured cheeks.
When she opened her eyes it was to meet Harry Potter looking at her, wide eyed and amazed.
He turned his laptop to her so that she could see look at herself in what seemed to be a mirror app. She was pleased to see that she didn't change much but still won't be recognised as Yelena Belova. "I guess I'm now White Widow."
"How unoriginal," Potter said. "Why don't I pick a name for you. White Angel would be a cool name."
"Is that why you gave me wings?" She asked and watched him stammer. "How unoriginal. I like it. Helena Belladonna is someone I'm not so it'll make sense for Helena's super nomenclation to represent something she is not. I'm definitely not an angel."
"You can put any meaning or reason behind it, I'm just glad you accepted the name," Potter said in a lack of care manner. She placed her hand on her elongated hair and found that she could touch it. It even felt like hair. Potter saw her touching the hair. "Got to love the wonders of hardlight technology."
Potter shifted the laptop and hit the back button. The page changed and what she saw almost overloaded her mind. Equations and and calculations that she was certain would leave even Einstein flummoxed. Theories that she could not make head of.
"What is this?" She asked, not knowing what to make of it.
Potter gave the laptop a stressed look. "Just something I'm working on. The basis for what I need to create shrinking tech. I'm trying to create a machine that can shrink things."
"I have heard of something like this," Yelena stated. "Didn't Hank Pym create something like this, Pym Particles?"
"This is not anything like Pym Particles," Potter acclaimed. He almost sounded derisive. "This one works differently, or it will when I eventually create it. I'm certain Pym Particles have extradimensional origins and were not created by Hank Pym. He must have discovered them somewhere and then learnt how to replicate them."
"Hmmm," Yelena sighed. From her time in AIM she knew not to question a scientist's believes. They are quick spite. "So what is this thing you are trying to create."
"How do I explain this? Do you know that the entire human race, all seven billion of us, can fit inside the volume of a cube?" Yelena gave him a look of doubt and waved him on. "If the space between our atoms are removed humans can be shrunk. What I want to do is create a device that takes space out of the equation when it comes matter. This device should not only be able to shrink things but shrink them in an orderly manner so that they won't end up mangled and messy. It should also be able to do this with living beings and organisms without killing them."
"So have you hit a snag or what?" She enquired curiously.
"I'm am still just working out the basics and analysing the theory. I am yet to start experimenting with this so I haven't hit any snag yet but I already foresee one problem I'll have with this thing: energy. The energy to power it and the energy it will use to shrink things and keep them from becoming deformed and disfigured."
Yelena felt proud of herself that she understood what he said. There was something else she decided to clarify. "Can you not use the energy source you created for AIM, your atomic reactor."
"No," Potter said with a shake of his head. "You don't seem to be able to picture the capabilities of what I want to create. The energy source I need is not needed for a space ship, it's for a device that when I'm done making will be able to shrink an entire planet for me to put inside a bottle."
"Is...is that not dangerous. What if you create it and someone gets hold of it?" She asked him carefully.
"I have been working on something that I will add to my personal techs that if anyone but me touches it, they'll be stunned," Potter informed her.
"Once again, Potter, you've shown me that we field agents might be dangerous, but scientists wield the true powers of danger," she told him in a matter of fact tone.
Potter laughed. "Thank you for the complement." He went on before she could inform him that she didn't mean it as a complement. "And please call me Harry or Hadrian. Potter is my father."
"If you say so but I think you'd prefer if I called you something else." She switched character so quickly she made him shiver, or perhaps that was just the Russian accent. " Lehrling."
"You are Russian yet you call me Lehrling instead of Uchenik," Harry stated.
"Uchenik doesn't quite roll off the tongue like Lehrling," she said. "I have a question for you. How did you manage to learn so many subjects at such a young age? Don't give me a spiel about your perfect memory. Perfect recall don't help you understand what you are recalling."
"You are of course right. Knowning and learning was easy but understanding was difficult. I got by because I stayed after classes to ask my teachers questions. Being a child also helped. It's pretty well known that children can imagine anything possible. That helped me also. In fact I don't believe the laws of physics cannot be broken. Doing practicals all the time was a big help also. Not that I had the money but my childish imagination helped me there. I once use palm oil and ashes to make soap, that's local chemistry I tell you; using wood saps to make ink, using herbs for medical experiments. Those types of things, learning how to use hot knife to cut things, learning how to amplify the explosive reaction of potassium in water. Those were my tools to success till I got access to my school's labs."
A notification bell sounded and she looked at his laptop. Potter drew the laptop to him and started typing then he paused, eyes going over the screen like he was watching something.
He looked so serious and matured and Yelena became certain that he'd had to grow earlier than normal kids. Just like her.
She kept watching him as he did whatever he was doing. His laughter threw her out of the daze she had been slipping into. "This is interesting."
She folded her hands on her chest and sat down. "What is, harry."
There, I will try to get used to saying your name. Harry, Harry, Harry.
"I have always known that many organisations have their eyes on me. It made me very watchful and paranoid. So paranoid that I bugged my own home," he told her laughing. "And now it has paid off. The weekly update I set has arrived. Apparently, the day you abducted me someone who was wearing a SHIELD issued trouser broke into my home and placed a bug in my air conditioner. So I guess SHIELD knows a lot about me now. The next day a SHIELD agent I recognised from my hacked AIM, Maggia, and HYDRA files as Spider Woman, broke into my apartment also and searched around. After she left my dear mother dropped by. The last and the strangest visit was that of my godfather."
So many things in what Harry said surprised her. She was curious and wanted answers. "Your mother is still alive?" She asked. "Well, sir, as the one in charge of your security I believe that there's a lot that need to be explained to me."
Thankfully he agreed and began explaining. He told her the story of his life.
