HNY, readers!

It's been a real hot minute since I wrote something, this took me forever to even get through but I had the idea and wanted to see where it would go. I've missed getting to be creative! Every now and then I'll get a review that they vibe with some of my stories as a lil' 'Sonamy fix', which I love, so I hope this lives up to whatever you might be after.

Song used in this fic is 'Hotter than Hell' by Dua Lipa.

If you're reading let me know, what you think! Happy reading! x

This seemed like the millionth time she'd sat back down at her vanity, checking her make-up, her perfectly styled pink quills, the shimmer dusting her clavicle, before she stood up and walked to her full length mirror - again. She brushed her hands over the immaculately steamed dress, that couldn't look bad on her if she tried. She turned slowly to see the red satin dress pour over and sculpt to her frame, loosely pooling at her ankles. The back ran so low the cowl hung gently at her lower back, highlighting the muscles she'd honed from years working with her hammer.

Her jade eyes sparkled in the setting sunlight as she looked out her bedroom window, feeling the evening breeze drift in and pick up the hairs on the back of her neck. She couldn't pick why she was so nervous, she looked fine. Better than fine, if she allowed herself a touch of flattery. She tried to shrug it off as just the rush to get ready, maybe a bit of excitement for the night, maybe a mix of both at seeing So- nope. She cut off the thought of getting any kind of hopes up before snatching her bag from the bed and finally leaving her room.

'You ready?'

She felt the message buzz as she made her way to the front door, knowing Rouge must be almost outside to meet her. The hedgehog heroine smiled as she read the message and flicked across a reply as she began to lock up. Through a deep exhale, she forced herself to wash away any stress and just enjoy the night. Things had been a little chaotic for the gang lately, so an evening to just be together, was what she needed.

'Coming now!'

.

'I look ridiculous.' Knuckles huffed, fidgeting and looking anywhere around the garage.

'Shut up and stay still, or you'll look even more ridiculous.' Shadow snapped back.

Sonic couldn't help but smirk from where he was sitting on the arm of chair across from them, watching Shadow awkwardly try to fix Knuckles' tie while restraining the urge to strangle him. Not that he disagreed with his hotheaded friend, he was certainly uncomfortable dressed up in a suit, fiddling with the cufflinks at his wrists and his black tie feeling like a collar around his throat. Silver looked much the way he felt seated next to him as they all finished getting ready. He did his best not to complain though, he knew tonight was important for Tails.

There was some big fundraising event being hosted by one of the city's biggest tech companies, and they wanted Tails there to present him with an award for his contribution to science. The cerulean hero couldn't help the beam of pride that went through him, knowing how brilliant the two-tailed fox was, but sometimes it was hard not to look at him like a kid anymore. At least while he was networking and talking about his inventions, the rest of them were there to have a good time, relax and let of a little steam for once.

'Do we really have to wear all this, man?' Silver asked - again - as he tried to loosen his collar a little.

'It's a formal event, guys,' Tails said as he made his way into the garage, 'We can't rock up looking like we just finished going toe-to-toe with Eggman.'

'I'd take that battle over my current one.' Shadow muttered under his breath, finally finishing with Knuckles' tie.

'We'll live,' Sonic chuckled as he stood, 'now come on, let's get out of here!'

Just as the first few stars began to light up the sky, the guys made their way through the entrance of one of the most beautiful venues in the city. Even Sonic, who had seen his fair share of of exquisite sights across the world, couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of the grand sandstone building, the lights all strung up through the hall, every corner filled with music and laughter; it was actually kind of nice, despite being a little out of his regular realm. Despite his brotherly figure's composed complexion, he could see the nervous tension in Tails' stride as they made their way through.

'You'll be great, don't sweat it.' He smiled and fist bumped the fox.

'Thanks.' Tails chuckled before striding up to a group he seemed to know and got to work mingling.

'Alright,' Silver announced to the three of them as he clapped his hand on Sonic's shoulder, 'time for a drink.'

Knuckles and Shadow shrugged at each other through a touch of a smirk before following behind to the bar. As they all clinked their glasses and turned to watch the crowd, they couldn't help but people watch and wonder who all these important folks were. Knuckles noted Tails seemed to be loosening up, a group beginning to form around him and listen intently. The blue speedster chuckled with his friends over the rim of his scotch glass, feeling himself begin to loosen up a little, even forgetting about the suit wrapping around him as he continued looking across the room.

'Oh, there they are.' Knuckles nodded in the direction of his outstretched hand holding his glass, pointing a finger, causing the others to turn towards the entrance.

As he turned his head, Sonic couldn't stop his eyes from locking in on Amy. She walked in with the girls, waving off Cream as she went to meet up with Tails, but it felt as though everything around him slowed as she smiled. He could hear the clichè in his head and his heartbeat in his ears, but their was no denying how unreal she looked in the backless, ruby dress. As if she could hear his thoughts, she turned to lock eyes with him, a small smile playing on her lips as she waved shyly. He wasn't sure if it was the liquor or the sudden dip in his stomach that made heat rise to his cheeks as he gave a subtle wave back.

'Well, well, don't you lot scrub up alright.' Rouge smirked as she strode up to them, taking a flute of champagne Knuckles held out to her before clinking their glasses together.

'You ladies don't look so bad yourselves.' He quipped back.

Sonic knew the hotheaded echidna thought no one would notice the way he subtly brushed the back of his hand across the ivory bat's hip closest to him, touching the beautiful velvet black gown she adorned, as he dropped his hand from giving her the drink. He tried to fight a smile until he locked eyes with Amy again, her knowing smile telling him she saw it too, before they both couldn't help but drop their heads with playful smirks on their lips. They all began to say their hellos, easing into the comfort of being around one another, and taking stock of the grand hall.

'Drink?' Sonic asked as Amy stood next to him at the bar.

'Champagne sounds great.' She smiled, eventually taking the drink from his hand.

They fell into a comfortable conversation, discussing their day, recent Eggman happenings, everything going on with the gang. Their laughter blended in with the crowd, the others standing around them at the bar in their own conversations, Cream joining in shortly after they had settled. Amy felt her earlier, and seemingly unfounded, apprehension wash away. Enjoying the atmosphere, the food, the champagne, the company of her friends, it seems it's something they all needed: just to let off a little steam for a while. Even if Tails was yet do so - she'd noticed he was still caught up in endless conversations with people she didn't know.

'So, how's that suit feeling?' The fuchsia beauty asked after a while, finishing her flute and setting it on the bar with a smirk.

'I think you know it feels like a collar, Ames.' Sonic quipped back, loosening the tie just the slightest bit.

'Looks really good on you, though.'

The comment even took her aback as it passed her lips. She clocked him stop fiddling with the tie and lock into her eyes, the faintest smile on his lips as he seemingly absorbed the compliment. She cleared her throat and tucked a quill behind her ear as she turned away from his gaze to take the freshly poured champagne from the bartender before turning back, the silence hanging tought in the air between them. As she took a sip of the expensive drink, the bubbles clearly going to her head, she rationalised, Amy watched him over the rim of her glass looking her up and down. Not uncomfortably or intensely, just... appreciatively.

'What?' Her questions came out half whisper, half awkward chuckle.

'I was just thinking,' He began after a moment, finally looking at her face again, 'red was always your colour, Ames.'

'Good, Gods.' Amy thought as she felt her entire body heat up, their history of a little flirting seemingly richocheting up a notch.

'Can I have everyone's attention, please.' A deep voice sounded over the speakers, the sound of tinking glasses echoing through the hall.

Everyone's heads whipped in the direction of the stage as the noise of the crowd immediately fell to a hush. The emerald green hedgehog on stage, dressed in a tuxedo and a tranquil smile, looked out over the crowd and commanded their attention as he spoke about the event, their company, and a somewhat brief speech about contributions to science that had brought them all here. For a man who was likely well into his fifties, he certainly looked fit enough to take charge in the boardroom and the battlefield. As he introduced Tails on stage to receive his award, the crowd erupted into applause as the twin-tailed kitsune walked across graciously to greet him.

He couldn't help but let a chuckle slip through his conversation with the distinguished hedgehog, looking over the man's shoulder where he heard a few 'whoops' and hollering come from a colourful bunch by the bar. Sonic couldn't stop thinking how if he thought he'd been proud earlier, he was bursting at the seams now. Even in their late twenties, just for a moment he'd give himself a minute of grace to look at his little brotherly figure like kid he'd once been, and acknowledging how much he's grown. As Amy applauded, her face lit up with glee as she watched the kitsune begin to give his speech, she caught Sonic's stillness out of the corner of her eye.

As she turned and saw him just watching, she subtly went to pull him into a gentle side hug for comfort, his arm draped across the bar behind her. At the slightest touch, Sonic pulled his eyes away from the stage to look down at her, smiling tentatively, before taking the arm hung behind her and wrapping it around her waist. Firmly. Soaking in the feel of her holding him up. The pink hedgehog hoped he didn't hear the rush of breath that left her lungs at the sudden jolt that pulled her towards him, or the racing of her pulse as his thumb lazily stroked up and down the fabric of her dress where it fell at her waist.

'Thank you, again. Have a great night!' Tails' concluded his speech, holding his award with a humble smile, as everyone applauded and music filled the room as a DJ began taking control of the atmosphere.

'He did great up there.' Blaze smiled to the group.

'Here, here!' Tikal agreed as she raised her glass to cheers Cream and the lavender feline.

'He looks like he could let off a little steam.' Silver commented before leaning over the bar to order the kitsune a drink.

'He looks like he might need a sedative.' Shadow snickered before sipping his liquor.

'Gods, you're dramatic' Rouge huffs, backhanding the Ultimate Life-form in the chest just as Tails walks over to them.

'Hey, gang.' He smiles bashfully, one hand holding the award, the other in his pocket. His eyes flicked to Amy's waist where Sonic still held her, before flicking up to the hero's face, like there was nothing to notice.

The whole group cheered as he came closer, making him laugh a little and rub the back of his neck. Silver congratulated him as he seamlessly swapped out the award for a drink and wrapped Tails' fingers around it. A weight seemed to immediately lift from his shoulders, now he could relax. Some guests began filing out of the beautiful venue, the twin-tailed fox explaining they were all officials, donors, higher ups, etc. It explained the shift from a borderline stuffy atmosphere to leaning on party vibe. It seemed as though a lot of folks could now let their hair down. After a few more drinks, finally loosened ties and belly laughs, the night really felt like it was taking off.

'Oh, I love this song! C'mon, there's a dance floor starting.' Rouge demanded, gripping Knuckles elbow and reefing him out with her, causing Silver and Blaze to shrug and follow them out for a laugh.

'Up for a spin?' Sonic smirked and outstretched his hand toward Amy.

'With you? Any time.' She smiled in return, earning her a wink.

The sound of Rouge's sultry laugh as Knuckles spun her around reach their ears as they drew near, leaving Shadow, Tails, Cream and Tikal happily at the bar, the other party goers dancing around them as the lights began to dim. Tamping down any lingering nerves, Sonic took the exquisite heroine's hand in his and gently pulled her to him, swaying them around to the beat of the song, feeling a little goofy to begin and laughing as the talked. It didn't take long before it felt like no one else was even around, their own conversation dying down as they move against each other, Sonic turning and dipping her here and there, just to hear her laugh.

'Cause we're hot like hell
Does it burn when I'm not there?
When you're by yourself
Am I the answer to your prayers?
I'm giving you the pleasure of heaven
And I'll give it to you
Hotter than Hell

Amy wasn't sure if the lights had dimmed further, making the strung up fairy lights shine a little brighter, or if her vision was getting hazy from the euphoria. She could swear the heating in the room had been turned up, because her entire body felt like it was on fire when he held her. She couldn't stop her little gasp that escaped her as he gently released her hand and ran his down the length of her arm, her ribs, before settling at the small of her exposed back, leaving goosebumps in it's wake. She snaked her arms up around his neck, her hands resting at the base of his quills, fighting the incessant urge to run her fingers through them.

When we go down right there
You make me feel right there
When you lay me down right there
We just make it right there
Cause you're looking so right there
Baby you should touch me right there
If you take me right there
We can make it...

'They look so...' Tails trailed off to Cream through a smile by the bar.

'Right.' She finished, linking her arm with his.

He wasn't sure what changed when, but this did feel right. He was sick of not doing anything about it anymore. Feeling the way her body reacted to his touch said she felt the same, but his nerves told him he could be wrong. The intensity of the moment made the smile slowly fade from his face, his eyes drinking in her shimmer that dusted her cheekbones, her vibrant green eyes, her perfectly glossed lips, noting the way her chest fell unevenly as she breathed shallowly. He parted his lips to say something, anything, and then... the music stopped, fading into the next song. It was like the spell was broken and they were thrust back into the room.

'Y-You wanna get some air?' His voice sounded like it had been raked over coals.

'Absolutely.' She responded breathlessly.

She let her fingers lace around his as Sonic led them through the crowd, making a point not to look at any of their friends, let Amy quickly snatch her purse and took them to a side door that led them out to a patio. The fresh air hit them both like a ton of bricks, the gentle breeze a welcome breeze from the stifling heat inside. Not a soul was out here, soaking up the beautiful seating area, equally decorated with fairy lights and lanterns. They remained silent as they sat down on a bench, side by side, before looking at each other and starting to laugh.

'Some dance, huh?' Sonic broke the silence.

'Some dance.' Amy agreed.

'Cold?' He cocked a brow at the goosebumps that began forming over her exposed arms.

'Oh no, I'm fine.' She lied, though the cool air was welcome.

Sonic dismissed it by shucking off his suit jacket quickly and wrapping it around her bare shoulders and back. He squeezed her opposite shoulder a little before loosely running his hand down her back as it fell, her cheeks betraying her as they glowed a bright red. She thanked him through a smile, unable to take her eyes off him. She wanted to ask what was happening, wanted to alleviate the questions running rampant around her head, but couldn't bring herself to throw a spanner in the what could only be described as the perfect moment.

'You...' Sonic started then trailed off, shaking his head to look away and lean back against the wall.

'What is it?' She cocked her head, coaxing him to speak.

'You look beautiful, Ames. Really.'

His usual confidence seemed to be zapped from him all of a sudden, the stain on his cheeks rivalling a rose, he didn't even lift his eyes to her. A smile ghosted her lips, holding onto the shred of courage she found and leaned in to kiss him on the cheek in thanks, the touch of gloss on her lips leaving a hint of a lip print. It made his head swivel towards her, bringing them so close their noses touch and their eyes lock on each other's mouths. Sonic could feel his stomach in his throat as he leaned in ever so slightly- to be startled by sudden raucous laughter coming from inside, freezing them both solid.

'It's getting late.' Amy shrugged a shoulder.

'Should we get going?' He asked, her nod the only response he needed.

He smiled and told her to hold tight while he checked on the others, but when he reached the door, he could see the entire gang on the dance floor. Even Shadow was twirling Tikal around, suppressing a smile as she laughed, the others moving around like fools, Tails finally looking like the weight of the world had been lifted off his shoulders, along with his suit jacket. The cerulean speedster smiled, deciding not to interrupt them, and flicked off a quick message to Tails to say he and Amy were leaving. He'd see it soon enough.

He strode back to where Amy was sitting and without another word, scooped her up and sped back to her house in a few seconds. As he came to a halt at the end of her pathway, he let her slide down the front of his body and guided her forward by the small of her back, still covered by his jacket, and walked them slowly down the path and up onto her porch to the front door. When she turned to face him, the glimmer of moonlight in her eyes and the way she smiled shyly damn near knocked the breath from his lungs.

'Tonight was fun.' He wheezed out.

'It really was.'

Just as the last word escaped her, his mouth crashed into hers, his hand palming the nape of her neck gently to gage her response. She met him back feverishly, gripping the shirt at his his chest to pull him closer, tasting the remnants of a dark, sweet liquor on his tongue. As his hands snaked down to grip her hips, the weight of her pull forced them back into her front door, allowing him to pin her between him and the door. The sensation of him against her as he nipped her lower lip caused her to whimper involuntarily into his mouth, embarrassment flooding her system for a second before realising it spurred him on, making her allow herself to plunge her fingers through his quills.

Like years and years of wasted time were bursting forth, it was as though nothing was enough, could happen fast enough, as his lips broke from hers to kiss her neck up to her jawline to her ear so he could whisper how beautiful she was, how beautiful she sounded, how good she felt. She wondered for a second if she might actually liquefy and fall into a puddle at his feet if he stopped holding her up. He wanted more, any and all the time she would give, to be with her, but he knew it was too fast. Reluctantly, he pulled himself away just enough to keep them a lips distance apart, causing her to gasp at the sudden rush of air.

'Can... Can I take you out tomorrow?' He asked a little timidly, his forehead resting against hers.

'I'd love that.' She smiled.

Just seeing her smile, even more so with her gloss smeared around the outside of her lips from his doing, just kept unravelling him. He chuckled before kissing her again, trying to be a little more gentle and a little less desperate this time, but he sensed the chemistry between them would always have a habit of dialling things up quickly. He couldn't help being so close it pushed her further into the door, one hand gripping her hip and the other now splayed at her exposed back so it wouldn't be harmed by the wood. Gods, she didn't want him to leave, but told herself to be patient, and pressed him back ever so slightly.

'Tomorrow.' She whispered before shucking his jacket and handing it back to him.

'Tomorrow.' He echoed, taking it.

She rolled her lips between her teeth to suppress a giddy smile as she reached up and swiped her gloss from his lips with her thumb, before turning her back to him and going inside without another word. As the door closed, she leaned back for just a second to catch her breath, before striding to her room to find the perfect, red dress for tomorrow. Outside, Sonic just stood staring at the door stunned, his fingertips touching his lips for a second before he dropped his hand, turned on his heel and walked down her footpath, suit jacket hanging limp in his hand.

Then, for the first time maybe ever, he walked all the home.
