Chapter 17

Rescue 51 returned to the fire station after the fatal call. Sam was still reeling by how arrogant and obnoxious the driver who caused the accident acted on scene and was rather quiet the on the ride back.

Roy asked. "You okay, Sammy?"

"I'm okay." she nodded. "I just can't believe how self centered some people are. That woman was happy the other driver died. Talk about sick in the head."

"You find people like that." Roy told her. "But you also find complete strangers who will do anything to help, even risk their own lives."

Johnny added. "There are more people wanting to help than people like what we saw today. It was a bad call, Sam. What matters is how we react. Keeping your cool is key." he mentioned as he gave her a knowing look.

She confessed. "I'm not sorry. I would hit that bitch again."

"Wait! What?" Roy asked.

Sam confessed. "She was going about how she was going to kill the other driver that died and how he was at fault and needed to pay. She then was going to go get in your way. I pulled her back, she pushed me, so I clocked her in the face."

Roy was stunned by the news.

Johnny clarified. "So she pushed you first. Then you hit her."

"Yeah." she recalled.

"Good job, Sammy. Just don't do that again." Johnny stated.

"I won't." she sighed.

As they pulled into the station they noticed a long limo sitting in the parking area.

Roy figured. "I bet that is Mr. Townsend."

Sam's shoulder slunk. "I don't want to deal with him now."

"Me and Johnny can deal with him." Roy suggested.

Johnny pondered. "I wonder if Sabrina is here too?"

Roy cocked his eye. "You really like her."

"I like her." he confessed. "She smart and pretty."

Roy soon backed the truck into the station and they climbed out. Upon securing the truck and gear Captain Stanley approached. "Roy! Johnny! Sam! The detectives are here to speak to you."

Roy looked about. "Where are they?"

"Kitchen." he motioned. "Mr. Townsend is waiting in the limo to speak to Sam."

She rolled her eyes. "The dude can't get out of his limo?"

The Captain smirked, "I was told that he takes privacy very seriously."

"Dude sounds like a fruitcake." she complained.

Johnny reminded her. "Yeah, but he's a rich fruitcake."

"Alright." she determined what her next move would be. "You and Grandpa go speak with detectives and I'll go see Mr. Fruitcake."

"Sounds like a plan." Johnny agreed.

Roy watched as Sam then walked out the door of the fire station. He was most worried for her. "Maybe I should go with her?" he pondered.

"She can handle herself, Roy." Johnny assured. "We have to stop coddling her."

"I'm not coddling her. I'm worried for her safety." he rebutted. He soon found himself stepping into the kitchen. He found the men were all focused around the three women detectives who had come to help Sam. He noticed Sabrina standing near the coffee machine from the future. She didn't bother to wear the uniform as her undercover assignment was done. Instead, she was dressed very stylish with a white blouse and matching white jeans and shoes.

The other two detectives were also dressed very stylish and were eye catching for sure. Roy and Johnny both came to a halt upon seeing the Angels of Townsend Detective Agency.

Sabrina had just got done showing her friends how to use the new coffee machine. She then noticed Johnny had just walked in. Her face lit up. "Johnny." She came to him. "Guys told me you had a real bad call today."

"Double fatal." he nodded. "You look good." he gave a soft smile.

"So do you." she replied. She turned. "Johnny! Roy! I want to introduce you to me friends and coworkers. Kelly Garrett, Jill Monroe and that man sitting at the table is John Bosley."

Man sitting at the table? Roy and Johnny were so taken by the three beauties they didn't even see the man at the table. They looked on and spied an middle aged man with dark hair and a rounded face.

"Nice to meet you both." Bosley stated. "Love the coffee maker."

"Nice to meet you." Roy stated. "You four are here to help Sam, right?" he questioned.

"Yes. We are." Bosley assured.

Sabrina stated. "Myself, Kelly and Jill are all former police officers and are well trained."

Roy approved. "That's good. Because we can't allow Sam's engine to fall into the wrong hands."

"Which is why we are here." Sabrina assured.

Meanwhile

Sam sat in the back of a limo with the millionaire. He was rather large man with graying hair and a stern jaw and brown eyes. He wore a gray suit with black tie.

"It's a pleasure to meet you in person, Samantha." he gave a warm, welcoming smile.

"Sam." she corrected. She was suspicious of his intent and rightfully so. She knew her engine would be sought after by rich and powerful men.

"Sam." he corrected himself. "I would like to offer my assistance in you project."

"In exchange for?" she cut down to the chase.

"You have a very valuable engine. I want to help you with it." he told her. "I took a private tour of the station prior to the Angels arriving. I saw the television, the coffee machine, the computers and the parts that you need for your engine. It's very impressive."

She flatly replied. "I had a bad call. Two innocent people were killed today in a car accident and the idiot who caused that accident actually made it worse. So, I'm not in the mood for games. You saw the tech, you know what to invest in to make millions more. What else do you want?" she asked bluntly.

He cocked his head. "Why do you doubt that I just want to help you?"

"Because rich people just want to get richer. You can easily become a billionaire with the info you got here today." she stated.

"That's true. I could use that information to enrich myself. But I would rather use it to help others." he told her. "Do you think I actually make money on that detective agency?" he asked.

"I don't know." she shrugged.

"It's a financial drain." he disclosed. "I started it not as a business adventure. I can think of far better ways to make money than in private investigations. My angles were all well trained, went through the same academy as the men and yet they were given tedious task such as meter reading. I saw a chance to change that and prove these women have actual skills. I see that in you as well, Sam."

"Angles?" she asked baffled. "Wait! You call Sabrina and her friends Angels?"

"I refer to them as my angels." he agreed.

She looked him in the eye. "Like how the girls in that playboy magazine were called bunnies." She started to laugh. "Oh man, you even realize how sexualized that sounds."

Charlie was a bit taken by how blunt Sam was. He countered. "I never saw them as being sexualized. Angels as in guardians."

She rolled her eyes. "Ah-huh."

"I am serious. Now, let's get down to business." he tried to take back control of the conversation.

"Okay." she looked at him expecting. "What's your deal?"

"The deal is you let my angels help you secure that wormhole and engine." he stated.

"And you want in return?" she asked.

"Your friendship." he requested.

She gave a suspicious look. "That's it?"

"That's it." he nodded.

She decided to give him a chance. "Okay. You can help."

"Thank you, Samantha." he gave a grateful smile.
