The True Story of 595

Chapter 2: Mission Report

With startled eyes Sam stared at her husband sitting across from her on the love seat. Not wanting to believe his words she downed the whiskey then motioned for another. Jack watched her carefully noticing her hands start to shake. After Sam downed her drink Jack reached for hands steadying them. "Sam, say something...please." he asked looking into her fear filled eyes. "I...Jack, I don't understand. I remember hearing your voice as I ran away from you towards the tree line." She finally answered remembering most everything up to that point. "Sam, that wasn't me who was following you. Did you turn around to make sure it was in fact me?" he asked still holding her shaking hands. "No, I heard your voice and I ran faster while pulling my shirt off. Never thought to make sure it was you." Sam answered dropping her head into his chest. "Who was following me Jack, whoever it was sounded like you." she said through tears thinking about what could have happened. Jack rubbed circle on her back trying to calm his wife down. "Remember Max, the friend of the village elder's son." Jack replied remembering the bastard.

Regaining some composure Sam looked at Jack. "We never talked directly, maybe in passing..." she responded when a memory came crashing in. "...Jack, all I remember is hearing your voice 'saying run' and the thrill of being chased." Sam added trying to remember a memory that wasn't there. "You admitted that in the conversation we had after sobering up. You also admitted that you were attracted to me too, this is why we left it out of the report." Jack answered trying to keep from explaining what happened. She looked down not wanting to look in his eyes. Sam had expected to be removed from the team. Jack had also admitted that she was attractive as well, but that's human nature he explained. Sam looked at Jack with love then spoke. "The drink lowered my inhibitions; I wouldn't have acted that way otherwise. I am forever grateful for your digression concerning that matter." She said with haunted eyes. Had they been truthful in their reports her record would've had a black mark in it, a potential career killer.

Sam said she could handle it so he continued without holding back details. Being a strong willed person, he had to believe she could handle the truth. "Sam, the 'drink' shouldn't have lowered any of the woman's inhibitions including yours. Max spiked the women's punch bowl leaving the men's alone." He said looking deep into her eyes hoping she would understand. "What are you saying Jack? That Max targeted me specifically, that he intended to..." She asked hands starting shake again. Pulling his wife into a bear hug he tried to calm her. "Jack, I need to know how this happened. You were keeping a close eye on me. That's part of what ...made me act the way I did." Sam replied searching his eyes. "I won't deny that the other women and you dancing didn't have my full undivided attention." Jack responded remembering watching Carter dance while maintaining eye contact with him. "What happened to take your attention off me then? I watched you get up from the log. Some of the village women blocked my view. When I looked back you were gone." She asked holding onto Jack tightly.

With a sigh Jack kept eye contact. "The call of nature, on my way back Daniel waved me over to where he and 'T' were talking with the village elder." Sam didn't say anything, just waited for him to continue. "Daniel had shared his coffee with the elder, in doing so he created another coffee addict." This brought a small smile to her face but faded quickly. "I wanted to get back to the dance area to keep an eye on you, for safety of course." This got another small smile from Sam but no words. "While discussing the trade agreement with the elder's his son ran up worried." Still getting nothing from Sam he continued.

-FLASH Back-

"Father, Max has gone and done a foolish act." Logan, the son of the elder Hugh said interrupting the four men. The male members of SG-1 looked at the kid wondering what he was so worried about. Logan had a panicked look about him, one that Jack didn't like. Jack and Teal'C eyed the boy closely making him take a step back while waiting for an answer. "What has Max gone and done now son?" Hugh asked seeing the fear in his son's eyes. "Can I tell you in private father?" he asked glancing at Jack briefly then his father. Logan's request got Jacks attention, red flags going up. Max had been hanging around more than Jack or Teal'C liked. "The Tau'ri are friendly Logan, you can speak in front of them." Hugh replied wondering what prank his son's friend pulled now. Gathering up the courage Logan replied hoping that the Tau'ri didn't over react. "Father, Max put the mating festival spice in the woman's drink bowl." The elder's eyes got wide with a hint of fear. Looking at his son then the tau'ri he measured his words carefully. "Col. O'Neill, if Major Carter drank from the bowl you must find her quickly!" Huge said seeing all three men getting worried or angry.

Jack pulled Logan's by his tunic looking directly in his eyes. This concerned the boy's father. Teal'C put a strong arm out blocking the boy's father from interfering along with a death gleam. "What exactly does this cool aide do and when did you last see your friend?" he asked in a low growl. The boy didn't answer quickly enough so Jack pushed the kid against the huts wall forcefully. "It would be wise to answer Logan!" Teal'C said still holding back the father. "Jack, you don't have to be so..." Daniel started to say but decided not to continue form his friend's facial expressions. "...answer the man son." His father told the boy. "The mating drink causes women to lower their normal behavior. They chose their mate and beckon them to follow by losing clothing while running towards forest." Logan replied being getting thrown to the side as a result. "...where is your buddy Max and don't lie to me!" Jack responded with anger and worry. Daniel realized the danger Sam was in so much so he glared at the elder. "Max was watching Major Carter dance." He answered making Jack spring into action.

"Daniel, Teal'C ...follow me!" he said running towards the dance area. They all ran to the area finding chaos. Women were running towards the forest as Logan told them. The men had started chasing after them presumably to catch their wives and girlfriends from doing something regrettable. Logan had recovered enough to catch up to the three tau'ri men. "Where were Max and Carter Logan?" Daniel asked scanning the area. "There by the blue stone fire pit. The major ran in that direction." He informed the men. "Teal'C, take a path just east of the pit and go straight, Daniel scout directly from the pit and I'll look to the west. Shout out if you find Max or Carter...don't hesitate to act now go!" Jack ordered moving to search his area. "Logan, you stay here in case they double back. Do NOT leave this spot...understand!" Jack told the boy while looking directly at his father then promptly left. "What does double back mean father?" looking at his son with compassion he answered. "I do not know son, but you stay here as Col. O'Neill says. I'm going to remove the mating drink before anything worse happens." Leaving his son to dwell on what was happening.

Daniel ran fast as he could in search for any sign of Sam. He hoped this wouldn't turn out bad. How could this have happened he thought? While looking around he spotted articles of clothing that didn't belong to Sam. Mostly light cotton tops that the women of the village wore.

Teal'C searched the east side of the blue fire pit trying to avoid men that had caught up to their women who were passed out; this perplexed the former first prime. One woman was dancing around playfully avoiding her husband half dressed. Another woman threw her shirt at him trying to get his attention failing miserably. Teal'C had a mission, to find Major Carter and punish Max for this transgression.

Jack ran full tilt ignoring his bad knee. He had to find Carter before Max found his 2IC. Max didn't spike the woman's punch for fun. He had plans for Carter, plans that could be devastating to her. Much like Daniel and Teal'C he had to dodge half dressed woman and the men trying to find them.

Daniel heard a faint voice that sounded like Sam. The woman was saying "I'm over here, come get me..." Was all he could make out? Deciding to go on a hunch he diverted in that direction. Then He heard a response "I'm coming Major Carter, get comfortable..." The voice sounded like Jack but wasn't. His friend wouldn't use her full rank unless they were in a formal setting. Pushing himself harder Daniel could see an arm shoot up from behind a shrub like plant holding a white bra. The bra went off to the left some where into the darkness. The shrub had to be a hundred yards or more away he calculated. Then Daniel saw Max head that way holding Sam's black uniform shirt, maybe 25yrds away from the bush.

Daniel was about 50yrds away from the bush when Max disappeared behind it. Worried for his friend's safety he called out loudly "Jack, Teal'C I've found them by a large shrub like plant." Hoping that they heard him Daniel approached the shrub not hearing anything which concerned the archeologist. To his utter disgust Sam was just lying there passed out because of Max? She was topless with her arms placed above her head. Max was in the process of pulling her pants down when Daniel tackled the man off his friend. Both men rolled into some mud, Max recovering first. "She's mine tau'ri, the colonel did not lay claim so I shall claim her as mine." ...Max stated standing up angry at the interruption pulling a knife. Daniel looked at Sam once more see her pants pulled down completely exposed for all to see. "...you son of a bitch! If you hurt her Jacks going to kill you if I don't!" Max lunged at Daniel but he moved to the side tripping the young man into the mud hole. "Jack, Teal'C...over here. Sam needs our help!" he yelled again watching Max get angrier than before.

"You interfered with the ritual; I now have the right to kill you. Major Carter is mine to claim as a wife." Max said picking up his knife. Daniel got ready to fight pulling his own combat knife. Out of the darkness Jack reached out grabbing Max's hand stripping it of the knife much to would be rapist surprise. Daniel witnessed his friend, Sam's C.O., twist Max arm behind him then shoving him back into the mud hole not far from the knife. "Daniel, don't just stand there, cover Carter with your BDU jacket." Jack said keeping his focus on Max. Teal'C arrived as Jack and Max were fighting noticing Major Carter's state of undress. His anger boiled over hoping to get his chance for vengeance. Teal'C positioned himself to block Max should he try escape. Daniel did as Jack ordered covering Sam's exposed body not seeing any visible injuries. "Daniel Jackson, has Major Carter been violated?" he asked watching O'Neill closely. He was attempting not to kill the boy despite the anger in his eyes.

"There are no signs of injury but he did pull her panties down with intent of rape!" Daniel responded with anger cursing himself for not seeing the signs. He redressed Sam quickly while trying to purge the image of her laying half naked. Daniel cursed again at the thought of Sam almost being raped, this mission would haunt him to his dying day. "O'Neill, Major Carter was not..." Teal'C attempted to inform his brother in arms only to witness a change, a change of rage.

Jacks eyes turned black with rage hearing Daniels report. No one had to the right to claim a woman just because of a ritual, much less Carter. Max had intended to rape her just like he suspected. Damn him for letting his guard down. Now she lay on the ground practically naked for all the world to see. Jack saw his opening as Max over extended his arm lunging the knife towards his chest. Jack once again striped the knife from Max twisting the rapist around then promptly snapping his neck in one clean motion. Both Teal'C and Daniel witnessed this neither one surprised. Daniel however would have nightmares from the whole ordeal.

-End Flash Back-

Sam was in disbelief shaking with tears flowing. Memories of the past came crashing forward mixing with what she just learned about 595. Memories of losing a baby because of Jonas Hanson causing a miscarriage over a decade ago. Sam confided with Janet while Jack was unconscious fighting for his life. That was the year Pete shot Jack with the poison bullet hoping to kill him painfully (A/N1). Now she's learning that her team prevented Max from raping while unconscious. Sam leaned closer into Jack seeking his strength, his protection.

"Talk to me Sam, please..." he asked feeling the fear she felt. "...why didn't any of you tell me about this especially you? I was almost ..." Sam asked through tears. "Here, take another drink, it'll calm your nerves." Jack said offering another shot of whiskey. She did as suggested downing it getting another. Jack looked into his wife's in the eyes, eyes that were red and terrified. "Sam, I failed you on 595 but that's not why I didn't tell you...we didn't tell you." The question in her eyes said it all so he continued. "I convinced Teal'C and Daniel that if you found out how closes you came to being..." he paused not wanting to say the word rape. "The reason why is this. Back then we were just starting to explore, we were on a steep learning curve. You were curious, trusting and full of life. Had I told you about Max's attempt you'd never stepped out the SGC ever again. Never trusted me again, I didn't want to take all that your were and could be away from you. I know I should've told you but I made a decision that haunted all three of us. I have nightmares from time to time about that night. Please forgive me Samantha." He pleaded holding her hand tightly.

"Jack, this is..." Sam started but shook her head trying to clear it of images of what might have happened. Taking a deep breath she looked at her husband seeing the sincerity and worry in his eyes. "Jack, I'm not angry with you or Daniel and Teal'c for not telling me the truth." pausing to brush tears away she continued. "You are right though, more than likely I wouldn't have gone through the gate again." She stated with a shaky voice. Jack hugged her tightly feeling his wife holding him tightly as well.

They pulled apart still holding hands. "Jack, can I ask you another question?" Jack nodded ready to answer whatever was on her brilliant mind. "I know you had access to my entire military file." She stated as a matter of fact. "I had access to everyone's file, still do." Jack answered waiting for her to ask the question. "Did the incident with Jonas Hanson influence your decision not to tell me about Max...the one where I was still living in D.C.?" She asked searching his eyes for the truth. "Losing a child born or unborn is a huge loss. Losing Charlie devastated me as you know. What happened to you was equally devastating so I made the choice to spare you more pain and suffering. Was it the correct choice, I believe it was. I want you to understand that I did it to protect you, not harm." He explained looking into his wife's eyes again.

Sam started crying again hugging Jack tightly once more. Had she know how caring and understanding Jack was back then. When he was just her handsome commanding officer she'd fallen that much faster. "Thank you Jack, I'm glad you were there to watch my 'six'." She said drying her tears on a tissue. "I'll always watch out for you and our kids." Jack replied with a smile glad they were past 595.

"On a side note that why I convinced Hammond to increase teams from 4 to 6. Having a heavy weapons and combat medic really saved our collective arses." Sam gave him a sly look which was an improvement from moments ago. "Oh really, here I thought you just wanted more people to order around." She said with a hint of a smile through tear stained eyes. "That and get more shut eye, RIP (RANK has ITs PRIVILAGES)." Sam kissed her husband pushing him down on the love seat, his arms going around her waist automatically. Sam needed to feel his strong arms holding her, reassuring that Jack would always be there for her. They stopped kissing to get some air, smiles on their faces. "...all forgiven?" he asked. "Carry me to bed and I'll give you my answer...Sir!" Without saying anything Jack sprang into action doing as Sam said. She needed Jack, his love and attention that's only meant for her. Sam needed to know all was right in their world as it were.
