Chapter 4: A New Change in Plans.

Mickey burst out of his house, a determined look on his face. In his arms was a stack of brightly wrapped presents, tied with perfect bows.

"Okay, Main Street. Time for a retake," he said, a mix of optimism and nervousness in his voice. "These gifts might not be much, but hey, it's the thought that counts, right?"

Pluto shrugged, tilting his head quizzically.

Mickey sighed. "Yeah, I hear ya, boy. What else do I gotta lose anyway? Now, where's that invention Ludwig gave me earlier? What did he call it again... oh yeah, the 'Present Para-Propel Pom-Pom Cannon 3000'?"

He turned to the garage, where a golden cannon with multiple computer monitors and a shiny red bow sat waiting.

"Ah! There it is. Time to deliver some presents—and maybe make some amends while I'm at it."

Mickey rolled the massive cannon outside, carefully loading the presents into its compartment. Each gift had a parachute attached for safe delivery. He punched in the addresses on the monitor, double-checked the coordinates, and took a deep breath.

"Gee, I hope this works," he muttered, pressing the big red button.

The cannon roared to life, launching presents into the sky in all directions. They soared through the air, their parachutes deploying perfectly as they floated gracefully down.

Jiminy Cricket's Narration: "Well, I'll be. Like a ray of sunshine after a storm, Mickey's Christmas spirit seemed to shine through once more. But, as they say, the road to chaos is paved with good intentions..."

Mickey grinned as he watched the presents drift away. "Hot-dog, Pluto! Uh... heh-heh. Poor choice of words. But oh, boy! Things are finally looking up. Man, I should've thought of using this before! Could've saved me a whole lotta trouble!"

One large present landed directly in front of Goofy's house. It opened with a pop, releasing a burst of Christmas decorations that covered the house in colorful lights and garlands.

"Well, I'll be," Goofy said, stepping outside with Max.

"Looks like someone beat us to it," Max added, reading the tag on the plug. "'Apology Gift From Mickey to Goofster.'"

"Aw, thanks, Mick!" Goofy said cheerfully. "Max, care to do the honors?"

As Max plugged in the decorations, the fuse box overloaded. Sparks flew, and the decorations burst into flames, setting the roof ablaze.

"HOLY MOTHER OF PEARLS! MAX, CALL 911!" Goofy hollered as he rushed to grab the fire extinguisher.

Another present landed near Daisy Duck, narrowly missing her as she walked toward the dry cleaner with her hot-chocolate-strained sweater.

"Oh great," she muttered, picking up the gift. The tag read, "Apology Gift From Mickey to Daiz."

Inside was a bright red Christmas sweater with a tree pattern.

"A Christmas tree sweater? Seriously? This is the TEXTBOOK DEFINITION of cliché!" Daisy groaned.

Donald, still stewing over losing the snow sculpture contest, wandered the park in search of a distraction.

"Maybe a walk'll help me clear my head," he muttered.

A present landed at his feet, revealing a miniature snow statue of Donald holding a Christmas tree. An inscription on the base read: "'Apology Gift From Mickey to Captain D.—The Winner of Everyone's Heart.'"

Donald's face turned red. "Oh, PHOOEY! Like THAT'S gonna win me the blue ribbon!"

Before he could finish, another parachuted statue landed nearby. Then another. And another. And another. And another. And another. Until the entire park is lousy with them.

Donald snapped, grabbing a shovel and smashing the statues to pieces. "STOP MOCKING ME!" he bellowed, sending shards of snow flying.

At Minnie's bakery, the gingerbread village was finally restored after hours of hard work. Minnie sighed in relief.

"It wasn't easy, but I think we've got it," she said.

Just then, a present swooped through the window, landing in her hands. She opened it to find a gingerbread replica of her bakery, with the words, "Apology Gift From Mickey to Min-Min," written in frosting.

Minnie smiled softly. "Oh, Mickey..."

She placed the gingerbread bakery in the display, but the unstable construction caused a domino effect, toppling half of her village.

Minnie sighed deeply, her frustration evident. "Oh, Mickey."

Meanwhile, Mickey was en route to the festival at town square when his Toodles PDA rang.

"Incoming call from L-L-L-Ludwig Von Drake," the up-beat robotic voice of Toodles announced.

Mickey tapped the screen. "Hiya, Professor! What's up?"

Ludwig's frantic voice crackled through the speaker. "Mickey! What did you do?! Did you use the Present Para-Propel Pom-Pom Cannon 3000?!"

"Uh... yeah? Why?"

"Why?! Because it's FULL of bugs and glitches, and programming errors and things that aren't supposed do and–GAH! Don't you remember the test run?!"

Mickey's eyes widened. "Oh yeah... Seven broken windows and nearly landing a guy in the hospital. And you said you needed to refine the Operating system...And I offered to store it somewhere safe! Oh man, now I just remember why I decided not to use it! "

As he spoke, he glanced out the car window and saw presents crashing into people, knocking over signs, and causing general mayhem across Main Street.

Clarabelle's News Report: "Breaking news: A Christmas miracle, or an enormous inconvenience, depending on your perspective, presents on parachutes are raining down on Toontown."

Pete and Mortimer collided amidst the chaos, spilling chestnuts and money into a sewer grate.

"My money I was going to embezzle!" Pete wailed.

"My chestnuts I've shoplifted from grocery stores!" Mortimer groaned.

An officer appeared behind them.

"I beg your pardon?!"

"Aww, Nuts!" Mortimer groaned.

Mickey ducked down in his car seat, groaning. "I'm such an idiot! Come on, Mouse. Pull it together. This was supposed to fix everything, not make it worse!"

Jiminy Cricket's Narration: "My, Oh My, Mickey. Things aren't going your way today, are they? I hope the Holiday Festival could be his final opportunity for redemption and to turn this Christmas around."
