Magikarp were floating around lazily in the deep waters, their eyes blank as if nothing mattered, just to survive a day and pray to any God that they will make it to their next stage. To either be strong enough to not worry about pershing anymore or to bring revenge on those who hurt them, it matter not now. But they cried out, swimming as fast as they could as the merman, whose face was narrow in anger, swam towards the palace.
Triton, Heir to Atlantis, Messenger God of the Sea, were how the mortals would say, piss. He knew that showing himself to Rhea, and explaining their world to her, would cause her scent to become stronger, but he had thought with the training he had given her and giving her the Oshawott that had came from one of his father's own Samurott. He had thought that he would have more time to train her up before she headed to the camp.
But no, everything he had plan is now disarray. It had started with the winter solstice, him being invited alongside his mother as Father's plus two. Ignoring the arguments his father had with Lord Zeus and Lord Hades when Zeus had realized his Master Bolt had been stolen, and then accused his father for it, saying that if it wasn't return on the summer solstice there will be war.
Between war preparations, trying to keep his father calm and with Rhea being in a school, he hadn't had time to actually train her as much…and now he was paying the price for it. "At least she is in Camp now…and she has some training so she will be prepared,"
"I AM GOING TO KILL MY BROTHERS!"
Triton sighs, hearing his father's bellow of rage as he enters the throne room. His mother was trying to calm him down as the waters rage above him, causing all sorts of accidents to the mortals trying to sail. "My love not only did Zeus shoot a Lightning bolt at Sally and Rhea, Hades sent the Minotaur after them and took Sally!" Father grips his trident tightly, Kyogre, the legendary that he was gifted by Oceanus, growls the red stripes on its fins began to glow in his anger.
"I know my dear," Amphitrite gently places a hand on his arm, "But Rhea is safe now. She is behind the borders of the camp. No one knows of her heritage, she will be safe,"
"But for how long?" Poseidon growls, "she has no control over her powers. Sooner or later she will snap and unleash them at somebody who angers her,"
"She won't," Triton stated calmly, both his parents turning to him, "while there has been a few upsets from her, she is well train to hold it,"
"Train?" Poseidon frowns, fully standing up, "Triton…. What did you do?"
"What you normally do for your Demigod children," He shrugs calmly, stroking his Carracosta's shell, "I told her of her heritage last year at the age of 11, and gifted her a starter Pokemon, an Oshawott who she named Murphy," His parents stared at him and he sighs, "I'm sorry father but I just couldn't do anything and leave her blind. Especially after what happen to Uncle's last Half-Blood,"
His father took a deep breath, closing his eyes, "While I know you think you did the right thing Trition. You shouldn't have done so without permission. There was a reason why I was not letting myself known,"
"Besides making her hate you?" Triton raises an eyebrow and Poseidon flinches, eyes wide as he stares at him in shock, "You have no idea how many times I had to tell her no that you didn't hate her over the last year," he shakes his head, "anyway when I noticed that you weren't giving hers starter at least I decided to change that. You will please to note that not only is she amazing at Pokémon Training, almost a prodigy, but she has been doing well in learning control of her powers and trident wielding,"
His mother sighs, closing her eyes, "Triton. I know you think well but there is more to why your father had her hidden more and not have sent an instructor,"
"Besides hiding her from our Uncles?" Triton sighs, "Mother I understand but you can't hide her forever. What more is there than hiding the fact that father broke the oath and had a forbidden child?"
"I… am right here,"
"Food…"
"Come here so I can ram you,"
"Food"
"Let me rip you apart,"
Rhea blinks open her eyes, confused about her dream of barnyard animals that wanted either to kill her or wanted food. But then a spoon was shoved in her mouth, tasting a bit like buttered popcorn and a voice whispering at her, "What will happen at the summer solstice?"
"Huh?" Rhea mutters, her eyes already closing.
"What's going on? What was stolen?"
"Mhhh…don't know what…your talking about…let me sleep," she whispers, closing her eyes once more and allowing the darkness to swallow her.
Opening her eyes again, Rhea blinks at the husky, blond dude that stood in the corner of the bedroom. With the many blue eyes, and she meant many as he had some on his cheeks, his forehead, the back of his hands.
"You know what…I'm too tired for this," she mutters, closing her eyes once more.
A rooster crowd out, making her scrunch up her face as she brings her hands up to wipe at her eyes. "Its okay. You're safe," she heard Grover spoke softly as she looked around her surroundings, finding that they were nicer than she was used to. She was sitting in a deck chair on a huge porch, gazing across a meadow with green hills in the distance. The breeze smelled like strawberries. Shaking her head, she looks down to see not only a blanket covering her legs, but Leonidas, laying his head on her covered knee with Lily the Petilil laying on his head. Murphy sat beside the chair, holding onto his shell, eyes flickering around in case of an attack. A pillow was behind her back which would have felt nice if her mouth didn't feel like it had a Skorupi making a nest in it. Her tongue was dry and nasty.
Turning her head she saw that Grover was leaning against the porch railing, looking like he hadn't slept in a week. He was wearing an bright orange T-shirt that said Camp Half-Blood and a pair of blue jean shorts, with his goat legs fully out.
She took a deep breath at that, "You saved my life," Grover whispers, "I…well…the least,"
"It really happen,"
Grover was silent, but he reverently gave her the shoe box, which she opened. Fresh tears prick at her eyes as she stares at the black bull's horn, the base jagged from being broken off, the tip splatted with dried blood, "Did you…see what happen to my mama?" she croaks out.
"I did," Grover whispers as he looks down.
Rhea stared across the meadow, where she saw groves of trees, a winding stream, acres of strawberries spread out under the blue sky. The valley was surrounded by rolling hills, and the tallest one, directly in front of us, was the one with the huge pine tree on top. Even that looked beautiful in the sunlight.
"Nothing should be beautiful…Mama is gone…the world should be black and cold…"
"I'm sorry…" Rhea looks down, petting Leonidas' head as he softly whines at her. Grover kept talking, "For everything…I'm a failure…I'm the worst satyr in the world…my job was to protect you…to get you here safely…maybe if…maybe if I told you the truth sooner,"
"Its not your fault," Rhea said, wiping her eyes, "Its mine," Grover bleats at this shaking his head, "Grover I knew about this world…at least what I am for about a year…I knew you were a satyr…after Mrs. Dodds I should had told you…I should had told her I knew long ago…" she trails off as she grows dizzy and Grover's eyes widen.
"Don't strain yourself! Geeze, Rhea," he gently grabs a glass of apple juice, holding it up to her and putting the straw in her mouth, "Here, drink,"
Rhea recoiled at the taste, because instead of the apple juice she had been expecting it was chocolate chip cookies. And not just any chocolate chip cookies, but her mama's homemade blue chocolate chip cookies. She felt tears well up in her eyes as she drank it, her whole body feeling warm and good, full of energy. Her grief didn't go away, but it felt like her mama had brushed her hand against her cheek, giving Rhea a cookie and told her everything was going to be ok.
Before she knew it, the glass had been drained. She blinks at the ice cubes, swearing it had just been a warm drink, "Nectar," she whispers and Grover nods his head, "That was nectar,"
"Yep," he sighs, placing the empty glass down, "How do you feel?"
Rhea hums, "Like I could fight Leonidas against the last sandwich," said Miradon looks up at the word sandwich, making Rhea chuckle as she petted his head.
Grover chuckles, "That's good. I don't think we could risk you drinking more of that stuff," Rhea frowns at this but Grover shakes his head, "Come on. Chiron and Mr. D are waiting for you,"
Rhea frowns but nods her head, gently getting up on shaky legs, she almost falls over if Leonidas didn't catch her. Rumbling softly at her, he stood by her side, to give her support. Grover looked at her in concern but nods his head when she waves him off, picking up Lily, "Some of the other campers went to the wreckage and got your stuff…"
"Thanks," Rhea whispers, grabbing her bag and her mother's. She places then on Leonidas' back before she shakily grabs Murphy into her arms before following Grover, to the opposite of the farm house where Rhea caught her breath.
They must have been on the north shore of Humilau City, because on this side of the house, the valley marched all the way up to the water, which glittered about a mile in the distance. Between here and there, Rhea simply couldn't process everything she was seeing. The Landscape was dotted with buildings that looked like Parthenon architecture- an open-air pavilion, an amphitheater, a circular arena- except they all looked brand new, their white marble columns sparkling in the sun. In a nearby sandpit, a dozen high school-age kids and satyrs were playing volleyball alongside their Pokemon. Kids in bright orange T-shirts like Grover's were chasing each other around a cluster of cabins nestled in the woods, with Pidoves, Rufflets, Murkrows either flying over them or sitting calmly in the trees watching them. Some shot targets at the archery range. Other rode Rapidashes, Mudsdales and Zebstrikas down a wooded trail and unless she was hallucinating, some of them had wings.
Down at the end of the porch, two men sat across from each other at a card game. A tall girl, looking around her age was leaning against the porch rail next to them, softly petting the feathers of a Rowlet that sat beside her.
The man facing Rhea was small, but porky. He had a red nose, and big watery eyes with purple curly hair that fell to his shoulders. "He looks…kinda like those pictures of baby angels..hubbubs…no cherubs. He looks like a cherub who turned middle aged," Rhea thought as she looks at his Raikou-pattern Alolan shirt, "He would have fit in Gabe's poker parties….but I think he would be able to beat Gabe…always,"
"That's Mr. D," Grover whispers to her, gently grabbing her arm before they could get closer, "He's the Camp Director. Be polite. The girl over there is Annabeth Chase, she just a camper but she has been here the longest than anyone ever has. And you already know Chiron,"
Rhea raises an eyebrow at the man who was sitting in the wheelchair, still wearing the tweed jacket, "Mr. Bunner," her Latin Teacher turned towards her with a smile, the same mischievous look on his face when he pulled out a pop quiz and made all the multiple choice answers B. "Or should I say Chiron?"
Chiron laughs, before waving her over, "It is good to see you too, Rhea…now sit! Sit! We now have four to play pinochle,"
Taking the offered chair to the right of Mr. D, who looked over at her with bloodshot eyes and heaved a great sigh, "Ah..I suppose I must say it. Welcome to Camp Half-Blood. There," he gives Chiron a glare who shakes his head with a huff, "Now don't expect me to be glad to see you girlie,"
Rhea nodded her head, keeping her mouth shut, but she scooted a little further away from him. Leonidas growls at Mr. D who simply raised an eyebrow at him, "Now…isn't that interesting. Where did you get that Miradon, girlie?"
"He was my mother's," Rhea stated, eyeing him closely, "She got him during her first year in Uva Academy,"
"Ohhhh so she was part of that group," Mr. D hums, "Hephaestus was so annoyed with his son…impressed with his time machine and that AI of his…but so so annoyed with it too…the trouble it could have caused…" Mr. D shakes his head, leaning down to pet the head of a Liepard who walked over, rubbing against his legs.
"Annabeth," Chiron called to the girl. Rhea turned her head, watching as she walked over, "Rhea, this young lady nursed you back to health. Annabeth, my dear, why don't you tell Luke to make some…room in Cabin Eleven,"
Annabeth nodded her head, "Sure, Chiron,"
Rhea stared a bit, while around her age, the girl was a bit taller than her and a whole lot more athletic looking, with her dark reddish brown skin and her black hair braided to her back. Her eyes though, they were intimidating. A startling gray, like storm clouds were looking as her, as if analyzing the best way to take Rhea down in a fight. She glanced at the minotaur horn that Rhea kept firmly in her hands before back at her.
"You drool in your sleep,"
Rhea blinks at this, staring as Annabeth sprinted off dawn the lawn, her braided hair flying behind her. The Rowlet hoots in amusement before taking after her, both going to the cabins in the woods.
"Ooooookay," Rhea mutters, making Chiron snort, "So….why were you at Asperita Academy, Chiron?"
Chiron sighs, "It was a house call, young Rhea. We have satyrs at most schools, of course, keeping a lookout. But Grover alerted me about you as soon as he met you. He sense you were something special," Rhea turns to Grover, who bleats nervously and smiles, "Honestly I wasn't sure about you at first," Chiron shakes his head, "But we contacted your mother, let her know we were keeping an eye on you in case you were ready for Camp. But neverless, you made it here alive, and that's always the first step,"
Rhea frowns at this but jumps when Mr. D snaps impatiently at Grover, "Are you playing or not, Grover?"
"Yes, sir!" he trembles, taking the fourth chair, settling Lily onto his lap.
Mr. D eyes Rhea suspiciously, "You do know how to play pinochle?"
"I'm afraid not, sir," she replied, softly scratching Murphy under his chin.
"Well," he mutters, "its is, along with gladiator fighting and Pac-Man, one of the greatest games ever invented by humans. I would expect all civilized children to know the rules."
Rhea felt her eye twitch, "Can…we please get to the point," the both of them turn to her and Rhea takes a deep breath, "Ok…I know that Grover is a Satyr, have since I first met him. I knew that you," she points to Chiron, "were possibly someone who worked for the Gods, when my old Latin teacher was gone in one week. You," she turns to Mr. D, with a frown, "I'm thinking is a God, with how much Grover is being scared of you, the Raikou pattern shirt…possibly Dionysus,"
"Smart," Mr. D chuckles, "At least smarter than most,"
"Rhea, how much did your mother tell you?"
Flinching, Rhea hugs Murphy closer, "Nothing…it was my brother who told me," Mr. D and Chiron both look at her, "My mother…she was afraid of sending me here, even though my father had wanted me to at one point. She said that once I was here, I possibly couldn't leave," "Alive at least….mom must have known about me being a Forbidden Child…she was afraid of Zeus killing me," "She wanted to keep me close,"
"Typical," Mr. D shakes his head, "That's how most are usually killed. Are you bidding or not, young lady,"
"I would if I knew how to," Rhea remarks, not liking Mr. D at all. He huffs once more, before explaining how to bid in pinochle. Once she did, she turned back to Chiron, "My mother may not have told me anything but my brother did. I met him last year after an…incident in my old school. He started teaching me to the best of his abilities, but for the last year I have known that the Gods exist, that they," she nods her head to Mr. D, "Are very much alive. Zeus, Hera, Apollo, all of them are real,"
A distant thunder rumble in the sky and she sighs, "And if my brother was telling me right…very dramatic,"
"Oh you have no idea," Mr. D complains as he waves his hand and a goblet appeared on the table, as if it was always there. The goblet then filled itself with red wine, which made Chiron sigh.
"Mr. D," he warned, "Your restrictions,"
Thunder rumbles and Mr. D sighs with annoyance as he waves his hand again, "Oh dear me," he looks to the sky as the goblet turns into a can of Diet Coke, "Old habits! Sorry!" he then looks at the can unhappily, popping it open before taking a gulp of it.
"You're…not allowed to drink wine?" Rhea stated, "But you're the God of Wine,"
"Mr. D offended his father a while back, took a fancy to a wood nymph who had been declared off limits,"
Rhea frowns at this, turning to Chiron, with a raised eyebrow, "¿Está fuera de los límites? ¿Es porque no se le permitió tenerla?"
"Yep," Mr. D confesses, "Father loves to punish me. The first time, the Prohibition. Ghastly! Absolutely horrid ten years…the second time…well she was really pretty and I couldn't stay away. So here I am…to be an better influence on brats like you…Father's words not mine,"
Rhea stares, blinking, "Ok maybe I should take over now Chiron," turning her head, Rhea's eyes widen at the sight of the brown haired man that walked up to the porch. He looked about in his twenties, wearing a blue jacket over a black t-shirt and gray pants. The only odd thing about it was the black wings that were on his back slightly ruffled, looking between Mr. D and Rhea.
"Ah Hibert," Chiron nodded his head, "Rhea, allow me to introduce you to your new Pokemon Training Instructor, Hilbert Garret, Son of Nike, Legacy of Zeus,"
"Chiron please," Hilbert pleaded, "Enough with the titles, especially with the newbies," he rubs his face but smiles to Rhea, "I'm sorry for this Rhea..Chiron may be an immortal trainer of Heroes…but he has never been good with the new generation,"
"I beg your pardon?" Chiron huffs, "I think I did well training you and your generation Young Hilbert,"
Before Hilbert could say anything, Mr. D groans, "Ok…since the game is obviously not being played, Grover," her friend jumps, crunching on the can that he had been nervously eating loudly, "We need to talk, again , about your less than perfect performance on this assignment,"
"Yes, sir," Grover's face was beaded with sweat as he follows miserably behind Mr. D.
Chiron shakes his head, "Do not worry about Grover, Rhea. Old Dionysus isn't really mad…at least not at Grover,"
"I mean…" Rhea muses, petting Leonidas on the head while Murphy chirps, "I think being deny your own domain would anger any God,"
Hilbert snorts at this while Chiron chuckles, "Yes…well he only has 100 more years to go before he can have access to it and to be allowed back to Olympus. Now those…why don't we have a walk and we'll start again," he then rose from his wheelchair, his blanket falling away from his legs, but the legs didn't move. His waist kept getting longer, rising above his belt. The front of an Mudsdale, muscle and sinew under course brown fur rose from the confines of the box that was the wheelchair. "What an relief," he muses with a smile, "I'd been cooped up in there so long, my fetlocks had fallen asleep. Now, come, Rhea Jackson. Let's show you around camp,"
After getting over the fact that her Latin teacher was part Mudsdale, Rhea followed Chiron and Hilbert for a nice tour. Passing the volleyball pit, in the corner of her eyes, Rhea could see several of the campers pointing at her, "That's her,"
Most of them were older than Rhea, their satyr friends bigger than Grover, all of them wearing orange Camp Half-Blood T-shirts. Rhea looked away, not wanting to see their eyes staring at her, even though she could feel their burning gazes.
"This is a sacred valley, Rhea," she turns to Chiron, "Humans can't see it. Monster can't enter it. The world can't touch it. Great care was taken to bring you here and, great sacrifice,"
Hilbert shakes his head, "It all started, when Lord Apollo, after teaching him, brought him six demigods. Achilles, Aeneas, Jason, Atalanta, Asclepius and Perseus, he taught them everything he could, before they went out into the world, their heroic deeds living on in the memories of mortals to this day, and soon word spread. Go to Chiron, and you will be safe, go to Chiron and you shall be train,"
Chiron nodded his head, "Aye yes. Soon my cave was no longer large enough, and so with the help of my students and the Gods, I built this place. A one of kind full immersion training facility dedicated the children of the divines and mortals, also opening the doors to many species such as satyrs, pegasi and harpies,"
Rhea nods her head, looking back at the farmhouse. It was a lot bigger than she realized. Four stories tall, sky blue with a white trim, like an upscale seaside resort. Checking out the brass Braviary weathervane on top, a shadow caught her eyes when it moved the curtain of the uppermost window of the attic. Rhea shivers, frowning, "What's up there," she asked Chiron, pointing to the window.
Hilbert for some reason pales, while Chiron hums, "Just the attic. Nobody alive lives up there," he then started walking towards the strawberry fields, where Beedrills, Combees and a Vesiqueen were floating over "Now come along, Rhea. Lots to see,"
Chiron explained to her that they exported the strawberries all over Unova, paying their expenses and taking no effort. She watches as a satyr plays the pipe, cause lines of bugs to flee the strawberry patch in every direction. "I wonder if Grover could do that," but before she could ask, Hilbert and Chiron led her to the woods.
As she got closer, Rhea realized the woods were huge. It took up at least a quarter of the valley, with trees so tall and thick that Rhea just knew that no Trainer, at least a normal trainer, had ever explored them. "The woods are stocked, with both Pokemon and Monsters, if you care to try your luck,"
"Monster?" Rhea yelps, "i thought you said no monsters could get in here?"
"Not without permission," Hilbert said, calmly placing a hand on her shoulder, "Sometimes we summon one for training," he then gain a disgusted look, "or if anyone is foolish to do so, as a prank,"
"A prank," Rhea mouths before she shakes her head as the tour continued. She saw the archery range, the canoeing lake, the stables, which Chiron didn't seem to like, the javelin range, the sing-along amphitheater, and the arena where Chiron said they held their sword and spear fights.
"You will have a bunch of classes here," Hilbert smiles, "As Chiron told you, I teach Pokémon Training. Lots of us older Demigods who survive come back and help Chiron keep you new lot alive as well. My friend Bianca, daughter of Apollo, teaches Healing, The person who will teach you how to fight with a weapon is Mason Reeves, son of Ares, and he helps organize the cabin challenges, nothing lethal of course,"
Finally, they showed her the cabins, twelve of them, nestled in the woods by the lake. They were arrange in a U, with two at the base and five in a row on either side. And they were without the most bizarre collection of buildings Rhea has ever seen.
Except for the fact that each has a large brass number above the door (odds on the left, evens on the right) they looked absolutely nothing alike. Number four had tomato vines on the walls and a roff made out of real grass. Seven seem to be made out of solid gold, which gleam so much in the sunlight it was almost impossible to look at. They all face a commons area about the size of a soccer field, dotted with statues, flower beds, fountains and a couple of basketball hoops, which Murphy chirps at.
In the center of the field was a huge stone-lined firepit. Even though it was a warm afternoon, the hearth smoldered, with a girl about nine years old tending to the flames, poking the coals with the stick. When she looked up, Rhea saw that her eyes were a burning red, like flames and Rhea smiles, bowing her head at her.
"Twelve cabins, for twelve Parthenon Gods. Each cabin is home to the children that god has claimed,"
Rhea frowns, "And I guess…even though I know who he is…I'm not allowed to say until I'm claimed,"
Hilbert sighs, closing his eyes. Chiron, shuffles on his legs, "Do not worry, Rhea. The Gods will reveal their designs in their own time, not before. Your father might claim you tomorrow, it might be next week, it might-"
"Never," Rhea whispers but then looks over her shoulder when she heard Murphy chirp. He was in front of the first cabin on the left, cabin three. It wasn't high and mighty, but long and low and solid. The outer walls were of rough gray stone, studded with pieces of seashell and coral, as if the slabs had been hewn straight from the bottom of the sea floor. Not being able to help herself, Rhea walked over to it, ignoring both Hilbert and Chiron.
"Wait young Rhea! Don't!" Before Chiron pulled her back, Rhea had peeked inside the open doorway, catching the salty scent of the interior, like the wind on the shore of Montauk. Inside the walls glowed like abalone, with six empty bunk beds with silk sheets turned upside down, a large pool in the middle of the room. There was no sign of anyone sleeping there. The place felt so sad and lonely, but Rhea…she felt the urge to go in, to fall in its embrace.
Both Hilbert and Chiron looked at her, and Rhea couldn't help but gulp. Shaking her head, she gives a smile, "So…uh where will I be staying?"
"Right…Cabin Eleven is this way," Rhea sighs when the two turn their backs to her, looking down at Murphy.
"I have to be more careful…though dad…may be ignoring me so it won't be revealed that I'm a forbidden child…that will come crashing down if I do something like that again," she turns to look at Cabin Three over her shoulder, and fights the urge to go over there and just walk straight inside, "I won't…I can do this…I can do this. I had years of him ignoring me…I can deal with it the rest of my life…" Rhea closes her eyes, "What am I even doing here," she whispers, "There is no place for me here,"
But still, she took a step forward and walked after Chiron and Hilbert, trying to ignore the pull of the sea coming from Cabin Three.
