Welcome to the Planet Mobius, A world beyond what you know from a certain series of Video Games and chronicled in the TV Shows and Comics of old, Where Sonic the Hedgehog and his Fellow Freedom Fighters fight back against the tyranny of Dr. Robotnik.
Spring Yard Reunions.
The City of Robotropolis was made up of five districts, The first being the governance district, where Citadel Robotnik was located, the rest were as follows.
The Market district, where the import, export and trading of goods takes place, legitimate or otherwise.
The Slum district, where the poor and fearful are preyed on by Robotnik's Badniks, and local gangs.
The Starlight District, the most cleanest part of Robotropolis, where the upper class dwell, funding the terrors of Robotnik.
And finally, The Scrap Brain district, where the Robotnik regime's machine and other horror are constructed, and where Sonic and Sally were infiltrating now.
"Okay, we're here." Said Sally as they stopped by a vent. "Okay, this is it, Section 2, Module 14."
"Are you sure we'll find out where the rest of Robotnik's excavations for the Chaos Emeralds are?" Asked Sonic. "You know this is where the Roboticizer is."
"Well we can't risk going into the main factory again." Said Sally. "I don't want to lose anymore Freedom Fighters."
And so they crawled inside the vent shaft, they crawled forward a bit, before reaching a spot where they were directly above the Roboticizer, Sonic opened a small girder and saw Snively, going over various calculations.
"Okay, so how do we get past Snively?" Asked Sonic.
"Well, first." Said Sally, pulling up a wire. "We disconnect the security."
And she unplugged the cable.
"They could have a back up." Mentioned Sonic.
"Maybe." Said Sally. "But before that, we should try to access the Computer." She pulled out Nicole. "Nicole, see if you can access the Main Computer from here."
"Accessing Sally." Nicole replied, and soon, she was in.
"Good, now search for all points of excavation concerning the Chaos Emeralds." Sally Ordered.
"Searching, Searching." Nicole began digging up the concerning files.
However, this did not go unnoticed by Snively, who went to access the computer and saw the files being transferred. "That's odd." He said. "Who's transferring those…?" He traced the transfer to the outside source and found it.
"The Princess and the Hedgehog." He murmured. "But where?"
He looked up at the open vent above him and gasped. "There! There they are!"
He quickly pressed an emergency Button. "All Available Units, Sector Six left corridor!"
He then looked back up at the vent and glared at Sonic and Sally, As SWATBots and Crabmeats entered the room.
"Oh wow." Said Sonic. "All this for us? I didn't even know it was my Birthday!"
"Go ahead and joke, you wretched rodent." Snively sneered. "But this time we've got you!"
"What you've got Snootly is a back fat nothing!" Said Sonic.
"Guess again Rodent." Said Snively as he pressed a button. "What I've got is your worthless hide!"
In an instant, the vent filled up with Firefighting Foam, Sonic quickly did a spin dash to the other end of the vent and knocked out the grate leading outside, As the Foam leaked out, Sally came out next, using the leaking foam to cushion her descent down to the catwalk below, joining Sonic, than suddenly a bright light shope upon them, they looked up to see the Sky Scorpion, hovering above them.
"Oh great, not these guys again." Sonic groaned.
"Prepare to be terminated, Rodents!" Came Sleet's voice, as his ship fired upon Sonic and Sally as they bolted across the Catwalk.
"Let's hope the Hovorpads still where we found it." Said Sally.
It was, and they quickly boarded it, and took off, with the Sky Scorpion, in hot pursuit, firing lasers at them as they sped off, over the streets of Robotropolis they flew, racing for their very lives as the Super Special Freedom Fighter Search and Destroy Squad gave chase.
"Dingo!" Said Sleet from the cockpit. "Dismount and attack."
Dingo made his way to the open hatch and jumped out from the ship, in an instant, he sprouted long leather wings from his back, his hands became claws and his teeth sharper, He flew ahead of the Sky Scorpion, gaining ground to catch up with Sonic and Sally.
"Did you think he could do that?!" Asked Sonic.
Dingo's neck than stretched up and tried to bite the Hedgehog and Princess, the latter of whom, kicked him in the face, this did not sabotage his pursuit though as his whole body caught up to them and as he warped his hand into an Axe, he slammed against the end of the Hovor pad, sending drifting down to the ground.
"We're going down!" Cried Sally.
They hit the ground with a crash, and skidded along the streets, people quickly took cover as they drifted past, before crashing into the side of a monorail station.
Once they felt themselves to find they were okay, they quickly retreated inside, leaving Sleet and Dingo to check the wreckage.
Inside the station, Sonic and Sally hid behind some scrap metal as they watched a group of Robians being escorted by SWATBots.
"I wonder where that train is going." Sally pondered.
Sonic on the other hand, saw something that made his eyes widen. "Sally…" He let out, pointing to a Robian Hedgehog, with Light Blue coloring and a mustache. "That's… my Uncle Chuck!"
Sally gasped. "Sir Charles Hedgehog? Are you sure?"
"I've gotta get him out of here." Said Sonic as he made to go after him, but Sally pulled him back.
"Sonic, wait!" She said, "There's too many SWATbots."
"I can handle the SWATBots!" Sonic protested.
But it was too late, Uncle Chuck had already boarded the train.
"Workers train to Spring Yard Zone, Now departing." As the monotone, as the Train departed.
"The Spring Yard Zone?" Sonic asked.
Sally pulled out Nicole and checked. "Yes, that's one of the excavation sites."
"Sonic!" Tails called out, as he, Rotor, Antione and Porker arrived.
"We tried to access one of the terminals, but those Scratch and Grounder guys stopped us." Explained Rotor.
"Any luck on your end?" Asked Porker.
"No, but you're not gonna believe this." Said Sally.
"We found my Uncle Chuck!" Said Sonic.
The Freedom Fighters were shocked!
"Sir Charles?!" Exclaimed Antoine. "Where is he being?!"
"On a train, headed for the Spring Yard!" Explained Sonic.
"The Spring Yard?" Asked Porker. "How do we get there?"
"We could take that!" Said Tails, pointing to a small rail tram, sitting unattended, the Freedom Fighters, quickly piled into it, just as the Search and Destroy Squad arrived, firing on the Freedom Fighters.
"Don't let them escape again!" Cried Sleet as he fired on the tram, The tram then took off through the Tunnels.
Later,
Long ago the Spring Yard was a factory set on the outskirts of a nearby city, home to the Hamuns, often called "Overlanders" by the mobians, after the Great War, it was left abandoned and condemned to the Elements, however, the factory was reorganized by the Kingdom of Acorn, and later the Robotnik Regime, to manufacture and test Springs and Casino Bumpers, it was a profitable business that endured to this day.
And this was where the Freedom Fighters were coming to now, as their Tram car stopped at the station and they got out.
"Well, here we are." Said Sally, as she pulled out Nicole. "Coincidentally this is also one of the Excavation sites, so it makes sense that Robotnik would have a Robian work force here."
"As if this place wasn't industrial enough." Said Sonic, as he surveyed the orange maroon design of the place, decorated by green wire fencing, blue pillars with pink tops and green brass, and rows of sparkling lights in various colors, and with all the springs and Neon signs, one would think it was all an amusement park.
As they entered the outskirts of the city, they quickly spotted the train of Robians entering the city, escorted by SWATBots, among them was Uncle Chuck.
"There he is!" Said Sonic, pointing.
"But how do we get him away from the Badniks?" Asked Tails.
Sonic picked up a loose screw and chucked it near Uncle Chuck, this got his attention, long enough for him to miss the rest of the works as they went off without him, Sonic then raced up and grabbed Uncle Chuck by the arms.
"Uncle Chuck!" Sonic pleaded. "It's me!"
Chuck just shoved Sonic away and tried to walk off, But Sonic grabbed his wrist and pulled him back. "Wait! It's me! Sonic!"
This time, Uncle Chuck smacked Sonic across the face and lunged at him. "Uncle Chuck! What are you doing?!"
Sonic tried to hold back against his Uncle, the cold metallic feeling brushing against him, Just then Rotor jumped in and pulled the Robian off of Sonic, holding him tight as he struggled in his bear hug.
The others quickly ran up to them and beheld what they saw as Porker helped Sonic to his feet.
"Sacre Bleu…" Antoine breathed. "What has Robotnik done to him?"
"Is that… anything we can do?" Asked Sonic as he caught his breath.
"The Robotization process is still unknown to us." Said Sally. "I doubt we coud…"
"Wait!" Piped up Tails as he reached into his backpack, he pulled out a glowing ring and held it up.
"The Power Rings?" Asked Sonic. "Oh yeah, I forgot we had those."
"Tails, what are you doing?" Porker asked as Tails walked up to Chuck.
"The Power Rings can enhance Sonic's natural abilities and can pretty much be used on any Electronic devices." Said Tails. "So what if…"
He placed the ring in Chuck's hands and it glowed in his hands, causing him to seemingly short circuit, and his eyes to shut off, and he went limp in Rotor's arms, the Walrus set him down as Sonic inched closer to his Uncle.
"Uncle Chuck?" Asked Sonic. "Are you… there?"
Uncle Chuck was static for a moment, then his optic reactivated and instead of red eyes, they were electric blue. "Sonic…? Is that you sonny?"
"Uncle Chuck!" Sonic embraced the Robotic elder instantly. "Sweet Gaia I missed you!"
"I missed you too, Sonny!" Chuck said as he hugged his nephew back, they let go of each as Chuck got a good look at him. "Still good lookin and always cookin, eh?"
"Yeah, Shaking and baking!" Sonic replied.
"Welcome back Sir Charles." Said Sally, as she hugged Chuck too.
"Princess Sally!" Said Chuck as he looked upon the Freedom Fighters. "Rotor! Antoine! Porker! My Gaia you've all grown."
Tails stepped forward. "Hi Uncle Chuck."
"Is that young Miles?" Asked Charles. "By thunder, you were just an infant the last I saw of you."
"I go by Tails now." Said the young Fox.
Chuck noticed the two tails. "Heh, the name fits."
"Come on, We're getting out of here." Said Sonic as he led the way out, but Uncle Chuck stopped him.
"Not yet Sonny." He said. "There's something important we need to do here first."
"He's right." Said Sally. "We're here looking for the Chaos Emerald, we found one in the Marble Zone and now we believe there's another here."
"So does Robotnik." Said Chuck. "That's why he's got a whole task force out here, and I know where they're looking, follow me!"
The Freedom Fighters followed Uncle Chuck as they went deeper into the Spring Yard Zone, Like Marble Zone, SWATBots and Buzz Bombers were everywhere, Crabmeats too, along with two new kinds of Badniks, one was a pink and yellow hermit crab Badnik with spikes on their shells, the other was of an Armadillo design, and painted in Blue with a red V.
"Rollors and Spikes." Noted Sally. "Perfect for Demolition."
"They want to knock down the whole Spring yard?" Asked Rotor.
"No, but Badniks are equipped with software that can detect Chaos Energy." Said Chuck. "And there's a large concentration of it here, somewhere."
"The last Chaos Emerald I collected was in this portal ring that sent me to this tripped out Pocket Dimension." Said Sonic. "Stands to reason that this new one would be the same."
"Nicole." Said Sally. "See if you can detect any nearby Portal Rings."
"Scanning… Scanning…" Nicole droned on, before answering. "Portal Ring detected, up ahead, in Area c43."
"Then that's where we go." Said Sonic.
"Porker, you stay behind with the Tram." Said Sally. "We're gonna need a quick get away soon."
"Yes Princess." Said Porker before running back to the tram.
"Might I be going with him?" Asked Antoine. "Would not want-"
"Oh no buddy." Said Sonic as he grabbed his arm. "We're getting that Emerald."
"Let's go." Said Uncle Chuck. "Watch out for the springs."
And so they journey onwards, carefully maneuvering around Badniks, propelling themselves up higher terraces via springs and bumpers and avoiding traps at all costs, but it wasn't easy.
Tails and Antoine were ricocheted all over the spring yard by the bumpers, Rotor got stuck in some small spaces and had to be pushed out, Sonic and Sally were the more nimble of the group, and easily got through most of the obstacles, until they came upon a group of Badniks, SWATBots were using Rollers to knock out a passageway, leading to another part of the yard.
"What are they doing?" Asked Sonic.
"Well from Nicole's reading." Said Sally. "The Portal Ring must be on the other side."
"It is." Said Uncle Chuck as he caught up to them. "This must be it."
As the Rollers continued ramming the doorway open, a Large shadow loomed over them.
"Move you cretons!" A Voice boomed. "We got an Emerald to collect!"
A Large Badnik scuttled forward, It was a giant Moto Bug, or at least it looked like a Moto Bug, it carried itself on legs instead of wheels, was colored yellow and purple instead of red and blue, and carried a mounted turret on its back.
"Whoa, that is one nasty commander." Said Sonic.
"That is Lady Drone." Said Chuck. "A deadly walking arsenal, and a volatile killer."
"Move aside scum!" Lady Drone drawled. "I'll blow the way out!"
And he aimed his cannon and fired, smoke and debris followed as the Badnik Commander sauntered forward with his retinue.
"He's heading for the Chaos Emerald." Said Chuck. "And he'll tear this whole place apart to get to it!"
"Not a chance Unc!" Said Sonic as he sped after the Badniks.
"Sonic Wait!" Called Sally. "Ugh, he's so impulsive!"
"Heh, Heh, Heh, Something never changes." Chuck said, shaking his head.
Meanwhile,
Porker was waiting by the tram, when he looked up and jumped in horror, above him, was the Sky Scorpion, flying overhead and surveying the land.
Inside, Sleet, Dingo, Scratch and Grounder prepared to dismount at the first sign of Freedom Fighters.
"They won't escape us this time!" Said Sleet. "Deploy the probes and begin a 5 mile radius search of the area."
The Probes shot out and began scanning the area for the Freedom Fighters.
Meanwhile,
Sonic zoomed after the Badniks, propelling himself over gaps with the bumpers, and traveling down sloped tunnels, A Roller came down after him and knocked him to the ground. Sonic got up and tried to smash the Roller, but it took off before he could touch it.
"Speedy guy, huh?" Sonic asked. "We'll see about that."
And he was off once again, avoiding traps and smashing Badniks in his wake, He soon reached the main group of Badniks and saw they had already secured the ring.
"Blast." Thought Sonic. "Guess they were faster this time."
He watched as a group of Buzz Bombers began entering the Portal Ring, there was a blinding flash and it was gone.
"What?" Lady Drone was bewildered. "Where'd it go?"
"Must be what happens when someone enters the ring." Sonic Pondered. "If they reach the Emerald-"
Sonic's thoughts were interrupted as another flash occurred and a pile of Buzz Bomber parts appeared, along with the Chaos Emerald, the yellow one.
"Holly, that was fast!" Said Sonic. "It felt like I was there for a full hour."
"Yes! The Chaos Emerald is found!" Lady Drone cheered as he grabbed it. "Dr. Robotnik will reward me!"
Suddenly, Sonic swooped in and yoinked it out of his clutches.
"Sorry Tin Can." Said Sonic. "But ain't no way this is going to Robuttnik!"
"No! You will not steal from me!" Exclaimed Lady Drone as he fired on Sonic, the hedgehog ducked, weaved and zipped away from the attacks and sped off, prompting Lady Drone to give chase, up and down the Spring Yard they went, zipping and bouncing all over the place, until finally they reached a bridge made of Stone.
"You give me that Emerald right now!" Lady Drone demanded.
"Hmm, How about? "No." Sonic replied with a smug grin.
Lady Drone growled as he raised his front leg, the spike on the end of it lodged itself in the ground where Sonic was, and yanked it out, he tried to stab at Sonic again, but the same result occurred, this went on and on, until the Bridge was practically in pieces and could barely hold Lady Drones weight, as Sonic leapt away from Lady Drone's final attack, the Bridge fell to pieces and took Lady Drone with it.
"See you next fall!" Said Sonic, waving.
"Sonic!" Called Sally as she and the other Freedom Fighters caught up, fighting their way through the Badniks, before anything could be said, a light shone on them and they saw the Sky Scorpion, right above them.
"Ahah! We got them now!" Exclaimed Sleet.
"It's the Search and Destroy Squad!" Cried Sally. "Retreat!"
And the Freedom Fighters quickly dashed off back the way we came, with the Sky Scorpion in hot pursuit.
They quickly managed to reach the Tram, where Porker was waiting.
"Oh thank god your back!" He exclaimed. "We should be going now!"
As the Freedom Fighters boarded, Uncle Chuck stopped and fell to his knees.
"Uncle Chuck?" Asked Sonic as he checked on his Uncle.
"Sonny… Don't have… Much time left…" Chuck struggled.
"We have to get you back to Knothole!" Said Sonic as Chuck handed him the used up power ring.
"It's too… It's too late… Sonny…" Said Chuck. "You… you must know something…"
"Yes, Yes?" Asked Sonic.
But Uncle Chuck didn't respond, His blue eyes turned Red again and he glared balefully at Sonic. "Priority one, HEDGEHOG!"
"Uncle Chuck!" Exclaimed Sonic in horror.
"Sonic! We have to leave him!" Cried Sally as the Sky Scorpion got closer, Tails and Antoine quickly got to Sonic and pulled him away from his brainwashed Uncle. "UNCLE CHUCK!"
The door shut and the Tram took off back into the tunnel, just as Sleet and his gang pulled up and confronted the Robian what was once Sir Charles Hedgehog.
"Where are the Freedom Fighters?!" Sleet Demanded.
"Huh, looks like we just missed them." Said Grounder, as he watched the Tram depart.
"Should we track them again?" Asked Dingo.
"No." Said Sleet, as he eyed the Robian Hedgehog before him. "We'll just take this one here, to Robotnik himself, for questioning."
Meanwhile,
Sonic leaned against the wall as he cried. "...I could have saved him…"
Sally knelt down next to him. "We had to leave him, he turned back."
"But we'll get him back, someday." Said Rotor.
"And look what we did with him today." Said Tails, holding up the Chaos Emerald that Sonic dropped. "We got an Emerald!"
"That just makes five to go!" Said Antoine with enthusiasm.
"We also still have that deroboticizer project in the works." Added Sally. "One day, we'll bring Uncle Chuck back."
"Ben and Cat too." Added Porker.
"And all of our families." Rotor nodded.
Sonic sniffed and held his face high. "Hang in there Uncle Chuck, We'll be back."
