"So tomorrow's the day, how're you feeling about it and bet Sonic can help. Good thing Maddie and you helped Tails with that bully you told me about." Shadow heard Maria say. It was the night before Shadow was to start middle-school but nervous about how others would treat him making Maria hug him relaxing him.
"I'm nervous Maria about it. Other cubs probably know about me, so might keep to myself." Shadow told her drinking coffee making Maria frown as she cared about Shadow, knowing he had a brave heart and cared about others like he cared about her. "That doesn't matter what they think, Shads like when Abe was with us on the Ark which never bothered you." Maria said strok8ng one of his quills gently making him smile.
"You have a point Maria, Abe was a pain but we kept to ourselves." Shadow told her fist bumping making her giggle knowing Sonic had taught him this which made her happy which surprised him. "I'm just happy you're safe and in good hands you know." Maria told him eating ice-cream as Shadow was eating coffee-flavoured ice-cream making Maria grin knowing he loved coffee hoping he was careful.
Shadow was up earlier than the others the next morning, getting dressed in a black hooded top with jeans so he could blend in and not freak others out which he'd told Maddie about pulling the hood up over his quills so no kids could tell it was him which bothered Sonic as the black-brown furred male joined them for breakfast but understood after Maddie explained making Shadow relieved as he got his backpack getting into the backseat of Maddie's car with Sonic only was quiet makinghim squeeze his hand gently making Shadow blush not used to this. "I bet Maria was helping last night you know. I haven't told Tom or Maddie about that." Sonic whispered to him.
"Thanks but nervous about this whole school thing…" Shadow admitted softly.
"I get it Shads as I was like this too, but I settled in. Plus I know you love books and reading so the actual classes should be cake for you. Just the social stuff is what you're worried about." Sonic reassured him unaware Maddie had heard this relieved Sonic was helping Shadow feel better knowing he was nervous as they pulled into the parking lot of the middle-school hugging them seeing Sonic give her a fist-bump before going off as Shadow followed after pulling his hood up.
Seeing so many people made him anxious holding onto the straps of his backpack tightly which Sonic noticed guessing this was overwhelming for him so decided to help him find his locker but showing him where homeroom was making Shadow nervous as the kids stared at him making his heart beat fast needing some air making Sonic feel bad for him knowing this was too much for Shadow taking a deep breath getting an idea.
"Maria if you can hear me, your boy needs help, he's overwhelmed." he whispered softly knowing once Shadow found something he liked at school, it might help him settle.
