Sailor Moon and the girls hurried as fast as they could towards Trunks' location. Trunks was doing his best to hold off the Androids. With the wind knocked out of him it was quite difficult and he was on the verge of collapsing.
"Moon twilight flash!" Sailor Moon shouted.
Light flooded the area, blinding the Androids and Kaolinite. The Sailor Scouts landed and surrounded them.
"What the—!" Kaolinite shielded her eyes in time for the light to fade away. "Why... if it isn't Sailor Moon. Five against three. I like those odds."
"And the odds happen to not be in your favor," Mercury chimed in and Mars set her down. "We're here for you, brother!"
Chest heaving, Trunks managed a small smile. Despite being afraid for them, he was glad that the girls were here to help him.
"No worries," Kaolinite continued. "I'll just have to kill you one by one until I figure out which one of you has the Silver Crystal. Why don't we start with you, runt?" She pointed a well manicured finger towards Mercury.
Mars sneered, taking a protecting step in front of her sister. "Like hell we would let that happen."
"Or you." Kaolinite turned towards Sailor Moon. The woman's icy stare send chills down Usagi's spine. "You who used to be so helpless."
"Sailor Moon is stronger than you'll ever hope to be," Trunks spat.
Kaolinite arched an amused brow. "Is that so? Let's see how strong she'll be after this." She dipped her head towards the Androids. "Finish him."
At her words the Androids rushed Trunks, no longer toying with him. They were going to kill him. Mercury and Mars attempted to come to his aide, only to be swatted away by Kaolinite's long hair.
Seething, Mars struggled against the hairy confines. "Fire... Soul!" From the depths of her soul, flames came pouring out in an attempt to burn Kaolinite's hair and for a moment it worked. Shrieking, Kaolinite let go of Mars. However, she still had a hold on Mercury.
Jupiter helped Mars fend off Kaolinite and distracted her so that Sailor Moon could save Trunks.
But before Sailor Moon could leap in to the rescue, she caught a glimpse of blonde hair and froze. "S-Sailor V?"
The girl was unconscious. She was as good as dead.
"They took her heart—!" With an agonizing groan Trunks fell onto his knees. Both Androids had a foot propped up onto him. 17 had his on Trunks' head while 18 had hers on Trunks' spine. "She's..." Trunks continued. "She's not dead... We can save her!" After Gohan, Trunks promised himself that no one else would die on his watch. He has to get up.
He had to.
But he was so weak.
He still wasn't strong enough.
He felt his bones cracking in his spine as Android 18 pressed harder.
Sailor Moon glowered at the Androids. "You let go of him right now," she ordered.
"And what are you going to do?" 18 asked teasingly. Her voice was filled with venom despite her grin. "Shoot more sparkles at us? Your dear brother tried so hard to beat us. What makes you think that his little sister can do any better?"
Anger flared up in Sailor Moon's chest. "Don't you dare talk about Gohan, you hear me? You don't deserve to talk about him!" Reeling back, she reached for her tiara in preparation for an attack. Her hand twitched to a stop. No. She needed something stronger.
By sheer force of will, the moon baton appeared in her hand.
Android 17 smirked. "A pretty stick? You bore me." He manuevered his foot in a way that was forcing Trunks' head to twist at an ungodly angle.
"Moon... Healing..."
17 flicked his foot and snapped Trunks' neck, killing him instantly. The horrid sound rang in the girls' ears. It was enough to make them pause their battle with Kaolinite. Mars and Mercury were the most affected. They promised their mother that they would bring Trunks home.
And they had failed. But Sailor Moon wasn't done just yet.
"... Escalation."
White light blanketed the area. But this was different from Moon Twilight Flash. It wasn't just blinding, it was lethal. To those afflicted with dark hearts it was painful. Kaolinite screeched as it felt like her skin was burning off. The Androids, while not completely human, were locked up in place.
Any injuries the girls had sustained were healed. Bruises, cuts, laceration marks from where Kaolinite has wrapped her hair around them; all were removed.
Sailor V jolted up from where she laid on the ground. Her heart has returned to her. She whipped around to face Sailor Moon who had a grim expression on her face, tears streaming down her cheeks. However, she wasn't looking like Sailor Moon anymore.
Her twin tails were becoming silvery teresses, flailing out from behind her. Her sailor scout uniform faded into a long white dress.
"This is she," Sailor V stared as she rose to her feet. "This is the Moon Princess. The one who has the Silver Crystal." Despite just getting up, Sailor V kneeled down and bent her head respectfully. "My princess..."
All the other sailor scours followed suit and bowed down to their princess. In another life, they were her soldiers. Usagi fell to her knees, panting. The power she used was too much for her and it was taking a toll. The silver hair and white dress blinked out of existence and was replaced with her depowered black hair and clothes. She was a normal girl once again. "Trunks..." She sobbed as she crawled over to his lifeless form. "Trunks!"
Usagi threw her head up towards the sky and wailed. "I'm so sorry! I couldn't save you!" Her tears dribbled down her face and landed onto his body. She cradled his head in her arms, wincing from how loosely connected it was to the rest of him.
Rain pittered down, mixing with Usagi's tears. She then lifted her hands to cover her face. She couldn't bear it. First Gohan and now Trunks?
Mars was the first to notice it, the slight change. She felt her brother's energy seeping back into his body; as his injuries mended and put him back together again. "Usagi... Look!"
Usagi removed her hands to look down at Trunks who was helping himself up to lay more comfortably in her lap. "Hey Usako," he grinned feebly up at her. "Don't cry for me, okay? I hate seeing you cry."
The breath was stolen from her lungs as she processed his return. Of course! If Moon Healing Halation brought back Sailor V, it brought back Trunks! Elation rose up in her chest and Usagi threw her arms onto Trunks for an embrace. She was crying again.
"Oh Usako, please don't," Trunks gently protested. It wasn't her embrace he didn't want, far from it. "You're crying again."
"These are tears of joy!" Usagi exclaimed through her choking sobs.
Crumpled on the floor, Kaolinite laughed maniacally. "You think you have won? It's too late..." Her words begged the attention of the sailor scouts.
"What do you mean?" Sailor V asked, her brows knitted together in suspicion.
Kaolinite continued to laugh. "She's coming... Our Mistress." The woman turned her head and passed out. Her soul had been cleansed of evil, but her spirit needed rest. The Android on the other hand were discombobulated, holding their heads and looking confused as if wondering why they were there in the first place.
"It's not over yet," Jupiter announced, mirroring everyone's thoughts.
In fact it has only just begun.
