Chapter 170: True Monster
I unleash my draconic powers and fought the hordes of zombies, slicing through multiple zombies with each swing and yet… no matter how many I kill, many more will come to take their place… like a swarm of insects.
Goro and Aragaki have fallen a long time ago and I've been separated from Akane. Everyone from Shadow Garden aren't here… and he's… still not here either.
"ROOOAAAARRR!" At least I'm not completely alone in this fight. Using the wings I created with from my draconic armor, I fly towards the dragon Godzilla as he shoots the undead horde and the apex beasts with his Atomic Breath, vaporising a large number of them with each shot.
I look around, searching for the monster responsible for all this… and I find him flying towards the command center of Messiah.
"Tch." I cannot have Godzilla fire at him if he's there… As much as I hate the schemers there, I still need them to activate the Arti—
Wait… they haven't activated the Artifact at all even though the situation is already dire. That means the command center has been compromised a long time ago…
"Godzilla. Shoot at that building." I command Godzilla in my native tongue and he obeys, gathering energy into his mouth and shoots a purple colored beam towards the command center, hoping to at least harm that monster.
But the expected destruction didn't come to pass as a huge green barrier suddenly appeared and blocks Godzilla's Atomic Breath.
The fact that he bothered to put a barrier covering the entire building means he have some business there and didn't want to be interrupted. I command the black dragon to keep fighting while I descend to the ground and run towards the building in high speed in order to stop whatever evil scheme he has in store, hacking and slashing through hordes of zombies on the way.
When I arrive at the gate of the building, which used to be Nishino University according to Akane, I gather my strength into my sword and lunges towards the barrier, creating a hole on it upon impact.
I wordlessly enter the building to find many people already dead, many of them killed by gunshots, though not zombified yet. It seems that even Messiah has traitors from within. Quite fitting for a den of traitors.
As I walk through the hallway, I encounter a man I despised most in this place, Akira Nishino, who is Akane's older brother, and the one who turned her into the Original Knight. A man like him truly belongs with the likes of the Cult of Diablos. His right hand and leg are injured, likely from gunshots, staining his white lab coat with red. The injury on his leg renders him unable to move.
"You! E-Elf woman! Help me!" He reaches out to me with his uninjured hand but I point my sword at him to keep him at a distance.
"N-No! I'm not your enemy!" He pleads with both hands above his head.
"After everything you've done? I think not."
"T-That's because you just won't give me your—Ahem! Look! I apologize for everything I did! There! Happy!? Now help me! Help me before those traitors-"
"Tell me about those traitors."
"I-If I tell you… you'll help me?"
"You're pushing your luck. I will never ever help you. I will however, spare you if you tell me what I want to know."
"B-But I-"
"Now speak, before I kill you."
"Alright! It's that old man Miyazaki! He has turned traitor against us! He's colluding with the Occult Killer and has stolen the Artifact! Him and his collaborator also killed everyone! My father… the other executives… And not to mention… he has recovered the body of his daughter in order to do who knows what!"
"Daughter?"
"You know her well! It's Mari Miyazaki, the one who dressed like a magical girl!" Mari's father… and he has taken his daughter's corpse… is he planning to offer said corpse to him!?
"Where is he?"
"In the basement… in-"
"Nevermind. I can feel where that monster is. Now, our conversation's finished. You may go."
"Wait! How am I going to survive!? Hey!" I walk past him, ignoring his shouts and pleas.
"No please! Help me! Help me before she-"
"Ara… Nishino-sama. There you are." I hear a feminine voice of someone I didn't recognize approaching him but I ignore them as I head towards the basement floor.
"No! Please! Someone! Save me!"
"No one's going to save you, Nishino-sama. Just as no one saved my husband after your experiments went wrong."
"Wha- You were from…"
"Yes, I was there. This has all happened because you ruined our lives, Nishino-sama. This is the consequences of your own actions. Now, please die in despair."
"No plea-"
*BANG*
I hear a gunshot and that was it. It didn't stop my steps as I descend the stairs as the elevators didn't work. As I come close to where that monster stops though, I began hearing a scream.
It's a good thing I erected that barrier before that Godzilla could destroy this building. How rude. I still have unfinished business here, you know?
Anyway, I've descended to the basements and arrived at the designated location where this traitor wants to meet me. I wonder what they're like… and most importantly, I wonder what I should do to them.
The sliding door opens automatically as it detects my presence and I enter the room that was specified by the message. As soon as I enter though, a barrier is activated… a familiar barrier. I see an orb-like object floating in the center of the room. So that's the Artifact they created. It mimics the effects of the Eye of Avarice, though without the magic absorption function and only has the magic sealing effect. How nostalgic. And how amusing. To think that the one who called me out here didn't have the intention to beg. Besides the Artifact stands an old man… with an unconscious Mari-chan at his side strapped in a wheelchair with an IV bag constantly injecting her with some kind of substance.
"There you are. You've finally arrived, Mr. Occult Killer... Or should I call you… my son… Miyazaki Tetsuya." Hm?
"I see that you've grown so powerful since the last time we met. I enrolled you at Sakurazaka High School in order to get you closer to the daughter of the Nishino because I plan on having you marry her so I could seize the power and wealth of the Nishino through this connection… but to think you would go further than I could've imagined… I must say… I'm extremely proud of you, son." He speaks with a sickening smile which… excites me inside. I never thought that my absent father is actually a villain. But I refuse to believe I inherited my badness from him. I became evil out of my own free will.
"After you began your killing spree, I tried to erase the evidence, which is your diary. But your sister got it first. Luckily she kept your secrets well enough so that your… hobbies didn't compromise my position with the Nishinos. What a good daughter she is" He says as he pats the head of his unconscious daughter. I also notice that my old diary lies in her lap, but that doesn't matter right now as he continues his villainous monologue.
"But still. It was hard to navigate through this chaotic world you've created, you know? I had to eliminate so many rivals in order to land myself a position within Mr. Nishino's inner circle… but that doesn't matter anymore. They're all dead now. And there's only you and me… and Mari-chan left. Heh heh heh." He chuckles like a true villain. I have to give that… an 8/10. To his evil plans, his monologue, and his evil chuckle. Congratulations, father. You've outscored even Sir Gaunt simply because you amused me more than he did.
"Now then. Let's cut to the chase, shall we? This Artifact has restricted your magic and I have a gun." He says as he pulls a gun out of his corporate suit and points it at me.
"Submit to me, my son. Together, we shall rule the world of men." Ha! To think my own father have such aspirations… a dream of world domination!
"If you don't…"
*BANG*
"Agh!" He shoots me at my shoulder and I took it while staggering.
"You understand? Or perhaps… you would understand better if I do this?" He says as he points his gun, this time at Mari-chan's head.
"So you would even use your daughter as a hostage?" I speak to him for the first time in many years.
"Yes. But don't think too badly of me, my son. You did far worse after all." He says, still in that sickening and mocking smile.
"You think that hostage would work?"
"Of course I do. I mean, you have multiple opportunities to kill her and yet… you didn't!"
"Heh heh heh…" I simply chuckle, which finally breaks his sickening smile as the power dynamic immediately shifted and he doesn't like it at all.
"What's so funny!? If you don't obey me, I will blow her brains out!" He shouts threateningly with his gun glued to his daughter's head.
"Heh heh heh… You think I didn't kill her? Go ahead and try to shoot her… if you dare."
"You…! I will shoot! I will shoot your beloved little sister! And it'll be your fault!" He threatens again whilst feeling threatened but it is of no use. I take a step forward, causing him to panic and…
*BANG!*
He shot Mari-chan's head in his panic… but I'm not panicking at all.
"Look at what you've done, you fool! And now you're gonna…" His words are interrupted when his hand is bitten by a zombie.
"GYAAAAAHHH!" He screams in pain as the zombie who bit him tears a chunk of flesh out of his hand, causing his blood to spray all around the floor.
"Aghhh! What… What have you DONE!? Mari… Mari… is a…" He shouts as he gazes at the horrifying figure of his own daughter, now zombified, chewing on the chink of flesh he just lost.
I walk to the Artifact and inspect it without touching it.
"Such crude little creation. And you thought it would work on me? I've resisted the original Artifact that this little toy is based on… and I did it without being whole." Taking advantage of the fact that my attention is stolen by the Artifact, he tries to escape but I stop him by shooting a laser beam out of my eyes at his feet, completely blowing them apart.
"UAAAAAGHHH! MY FEET! AAAAAAAAGHHH!" He squeals like a pig as he lay bleeding on the floor.
"You're a decade too late to surpass my villainy, former father." I say as I walk towards him slowly.
"What… former father…?" He turns towards me with a horrified face full of tears. Yes… this face suits him better than his previous smug smile.
"Yes… I am no longer Miyazaki Tetsuya. I am…" I say as I remove my skull mask, revealing my new face at him.
"Claude Normann."
"Huh… Wha…"
"And you're nothing but meal for our dear Mari-chan. Heh heh heh." I didn't bother elaborating on my reincarnation and just let Mari feed on him. It's not like he'll need that information in the afterlife anyway.
"No! No please! No! GYAAAAAHHH!" He screams and screams as Mari-chan pins him to the floor and slowly tears him limb from limb and devours him one bite after another as I watch as the whole thing unfolds with satisfaction.
This development is definitely far better than I expected. I thought I would just threaten a simple minded fool who thought he could beg for my mercy just by betraying Messiah and ruining my fun. Turns out it's my scheming father and he's not here to beg but to threaten me instead. He still ended up begging in the end though. How precious!
Ah. I sense that No. 001 is approaching. I can see that you missed me but this underground lair is not a good stage for the finale of this play. And thus, before she can reach here, I teleport outside.
I'm too late. That monster has already left… the only thing left in the room is the Artifact and Mari's zombiefied corpse feasting on an old man. As I expected… that monster has already turned her corpse into a zombie… defiling her as is his specialty.
*Munch munch munch*
As she eats the corpse of the man like a hungry beast, I began to reminisce about our time together.
"H-Hentai? Umm… This word means degenerate. So when someone peeks at you when you're bathing, you can scream, Kyaaah! Hentai!" She said when teaching me the Japanese language.
"A-Alpha-san! You must try this! It's called Taiyaki!" She said when offering me a fish shaped cake.
"Ehhh!? Y-You're only 15 years old!? Even though your body looks so sexy and mature!? How does elf puberty work!? Eh? Your other friends are also the same!?" She exclaimed in surprise when I revealed my age to her.
"So… now that you're teaching us… can we call you Alpha-sensei?" She said with a warm endearing smile when our positions were reversed and I began teaching her and her comrades in the ways of the shadows.
"So… the people of Akihabara gave you all these clothes, huh? How did they even figure out your three sizes? Those perverts! But these outfits look cute though. C-Can you at least try it—No no no! Please don't glare at me like that, Alpha-sensei!" She said when she saw the pile of clothes that the people of Akihabara gave me to wear.
"What's your world like, Alpha-sensei?" She said when asked me about my world curiously.
"Wow! You guys made chocolate back in your world!? It's been so long since I ate some chocolate! I want it!" She said while drooling because the monster apocalypse made luxury items, which used to be commonplace, became scarce.
"Your world sounds wonderful and interesting! I would love to visit it if I can!" She said with a bright smile after hearing me describe my world and how some of its cultures look similar to this world's.
"Alpha-sensei… do you have a sibling?" She said in a somewhat sad tone back when I didn't know the depths of her sorrow.
"Alpha-sensei!"
"Alpha-sensei!"
"Alpha-sensei~!"
Her positive energy… Her sweet smile and optimism, her antics, her determination… and most importantly… how kind she was when she extended a hand to me, a foreigner in these lands… even though they all feared me and my powers…
She didn't have to but… she did her best in teaching me the native language of this country despite her busy schedule, allowing me to become more involved in the battle against that monster… and she has been a constant companion throughout this fight despite carrying her own burdens…
I couldn't bear seeing her being reduced to this state any longer… and thus… with my slime sword coated with my magic, I stab her in the chest while hugging her in the same time. Her unlife dissipates alongside a faint breath she lets out one last time.
"Mari-chan… rest now. Please… rest and… be at peace." My words are broken by sobs as I couldn't stop my own tears from flowing. I already know that she's dead since days ago… but I can't help but mourn her death once more.
As I cry and let my tears fall down on the floor, I notice that my tears fell on a book… a diary of sorts belonging to…
I immediately take the book from the floor and open it… reading its horrifying contents.
A horrifying realization struck me then… Back when that monster stabbed her… her last words were…
Onii-chan…
I thought she was referring to a deceased brother… but she was actually referring to…
"What… how could you… your own sister…" I could barely believe my eyes… but the diary confirms his full name… Miyazaki Tetsuya… and that of his sister's… Miyazaki Mari…
My previous emotion, which was that of sadness, is immediately replaced by rage. Pure unbridled rage. The accursed monster's diary is instantly vaporised by my draconic aura.
"TETSUYAAAA! NECROMANCER! YOU MONSTER! HOW COULD YOU! TO YOUR OWN SISTER!" I shout in rage at the realization that this monster… whom I already thought is the worst... is actually even worse than I ever thought possible.
*VROOM VROOM VROOM*
"There he is! There's the Occult Killer! Attack!" Shouts the kamen riders as they ride their motorcycles to attack the Occult Killer, Tetsuya-kun, when he suddenly appeared in front of us.
"Kill him! Protect Akane-chan for Stylish-san! HYAAAAHHH!" They shout as they try to run him through with their motorcycles… but the outcome of this encounter has already been decided by Tetsuya-kun's overwhelming force.
*BOOM*
Without moving a single limb, Tetsuya-kun destroyed the kamen rider gang with laser beam he shoots from his shining red eyes, leaving nothing but charred remains.
Those fools. Even after word came out that I'm a monster… that I'm the Original Knight… they still followed the will of Fake Stylish-san to fight for me, saying that they are also outcasts who committed crimes… not knowing I'm far worse than they could ever be.
"Foolish wannabe heroes." Tetsuya-kun remarks without feeling anything after killing them.
"Tetsuya-kun." I call out to my former classmate and greatest nightmare to draw his attention to me.
"Congratulations on killing your sister by the way. Good job." I taunt him, expecting to hurt him with these words considering he how reacted when he stabbed her. But I didn't get the reaction I wanted out of him.
"Why, thank you my old classmate. I truly appreciate you celebrating how I crossed a bridge."
I grit my teeth in rage after seeing him behave that way towards Mari-chan's death. Mari-chan, who loved you so much despite knowing how much of a monster you are!
"You… Your own sister…! Did you feel nothing after what you've done!?"
"Of course I felt something."
"What did you feel then!?"
"At first, horrified. But… Heh heh heh. It reminded me of my first kill. It's horrible… but eventually… so sweet and intoxicating."
"Wha… Why…?"
"Because I am a monster. And unlike you, who became a monster of someone else's design, which made you fail miserably at being one, I became a monster by my own design."
"Why… did you want to become…"
"Because I wanted to. Simple as that."
"What…? Then… You killed your sister…"
"That was an… accident. I admit. But one way or another, I would have to cross that bridge anyway. And crossed it I did. And ohh…. How liberating that felt! Heh heh heh." He chuckles in satisfaction… in celebration of his sister's demise.
"Liberating….?"
"Yes. As long as I still have lingering attachments to her, I would become weak. She will be my weakness… and thus… I have to cut it out before it gets in the way of my villainy."
I can't reason with him… I can't even bully him… He has become a true monster.
"I should've stopped you back then…"
"Heh heh heh. Perhaps you should've. But what could you do back then? Kill me? You would be killed first. Alert the police? It would only make me abandon my old life and become a full time serial killer. Tell anyone? They will die alongside you."
I know it's too late to regret about the past. Now is the time to focus on the present.
"Perhaps so… But enough talk about the past."
"Indeed. Let us finish what we started."
I hold my weapon tightly in my hand and charge at him at high speed, only to have him catch the hand holding the weapon before I can strike him with it.
"You think you can harm me with a mere iron bar? How disappointing. Try again!" He throws me away, forcing me to take another stance.
*CLANG*
Another crowbar fell to the ground. I grab said crowbar as I charge at him again.
"Bah! Another iron bar wouldn't make a differe-" He stops his words as he gaze upon my form, wielding the crowbars in both hands like Minoru-kun once did.
His momentary pause allowed me to hit his face with one of the crowbar, followed by another overhead strike to his head. I take a step back as I try to anticipate his next move.
"Balaclavas… Berserker…" Looks like he finally recognized it. It gives me a grin as if I've finally got to him for the first time in my life.
"He was called Stylish Bandit Slayer."
"Stylish Bandit Slayer!? HA! What a ridiculous name! But since you want to play with his weapon so much… I shall reciprocate with the weapon of the Occult Killer." He says as he summoned a huge butcher knife, the size of which intimidates me.
"Y-You can't be serious… you couldn't have wielded that back when you were a serial killer!" I shout in disbelief as I don't think he could've fit that weapon inside his duffel bag back when he went on a murdering spree.
"For the first iteration of the Occult Killer perhaps. But for the second one, this is my first weapon." He says something I don't fully understand as he charged at me with that huge butcher knife. I try to block it with my crowbars… and surprisingly, it worked.
"What kind of metal are these crowbars made of? Certainly not a normal iron." He remarks as he inspect the crowbars that blocked his butcher knife.
I try to push him away but he didn't budge, forcing me to back away instead before he could redirect his weapon towards my stomach.
"Wise choice. With your level of skill, you couldn't outsmart me." He says as he charges once again. I try to block him again but he feints his attack and redirects his blade towards my stomach, slicing it open and allowing both blood and my intestines to spill out. I fell on my back as the burning pain on my stomach and the blood loss weakens me immediately.
"Ughh… Aghh…" The pain… I've felt a lot of pain during my time as a knight… but this is the first time I suffered such a fatal wound…
Tap tap tap* I hear his footsteps approaching me… his cloak, as black as night, his terrifying skull mask and his shining red eyes makes him look like the grim reaper… ready to harvest my soul. Give him a scythe and the image would've been perfect.
Here he comes… my death… my doom. After all these years… he has finally come for my soul.
Am I… going to die?
Mari-chan… Minoru-kun… Have I… become a hero…?
"You will not lay your hands on her anymore, you monster!" I hear Alpha-sensei's voice… She looks like she's carrying someone… though I can barely perceive her as the blood loss blurs my vision.
"Akane-chan!" I hear Alpha-sensei's muffled voice calling out to me… but that's all I can hear before darkness envelops me.
Have I finally crossed to the afterlife? Perhaps so… Because I can sense… a familiar presence.
"Akane-chan!" I shout her name but she does not respond. I try to heal her but my healing skills are not on par with Shadow's, who could heal any fatal wounds as long as the person is still alive.
"Please! Stay alive! I can't lose you too! Akane!" I try my best but… before I could fully heal her, her body was sucked by a black portal that came out of nowhere.
"You! What did you do to her!?" I shout as I glare at the skull faced monster.
"It wasn't me. The fabric of space has simply been unstable recently."
I grit my teeth, not knowing whether to believe his words or not… though the fact that he wasn't boasting about it probably meant it's true.
But still, once again… I failed. I failed to save someone from this monster as he took their lives right in front of my eyes.
"How surprising. To think you would forge such a bond with the people of this world." The monster taunts, further increasing my anger and hatred towards him.
"Of course… I have more heart than you after all…" I glare at the sister killer with tears staining my cheeks.
"I agree with that completely. But don't worry. You shall have a lot of time to mourn for them in my laborato-"
*CLANG*
His words are cut off by a metal bar falling on his head.
"Okay. This is getting ridiculous. WHO THE FUCK KEEPS THROWING CROWBARS AT ME!?" He shouts angrily, which gives me a slight feeling of joy in between my sorrow. But where did the crowbar came from?
*CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG*
As if to answer my question, more crowbars fell from the sky.
"Oh? Did the weather forecast say it's raining crowbars today!? Strange! I was pretty sure the forecast said it should rain destruction today!" He says as he looks at the blood red sky, only to see several black portals opening above us, causing a rain of crowbars to fall.
"What the fu—BALACLAVAS BERSERKER!? IS THAT YOU!?" He shouts in an excited voice as if he found an old friend.
The crowbars, made of unknown material, rain down from the sky, creating innumerable sounds of metal clanking all around us… no… all around the city… Their fall seems to target Necromancer and his undead minions and some of them even contain purple colored magic which explodes upon impact.
"Oh look! It really did rain down destruction! I was fucking joking! Ha ha ha ha!"
Is that you… Shadow!?
*BOOM BOOM BOOM*
"Mwa ha ha ha ha! You got me, my nemesis! HAA HA HA HA HA!" The last thing I hear besides the sounds of the crowbars falling and several explosions are those words and that sickening laughter of his before a dark portal opens up behind me and suck me in along with Mari's body.
It's only been a few days since our crushing defeat at Oriana but the mood in Alexandria has already improved greatly. Now that he has given us a sign of his presence through a card he gave to Gamma, I believe I will soon lose the nightmares I always had every night I spent without his constant presence. I might even start writing again! Which book should I write? Of course "The Chronicles of Lord Shadow"!
"Lady Beta! Look!" But just as we are in a celebratory mood, a black portal appears in the sky. The situation went from celebratory to high alert instantly as we anticipate black beasts coming out of this portal. But why here and now? Did someone activate the Black Rose here? Or did Necromancer…
Either way, all active Seven Shades, namely me, Epsilon and Gamma, along with several members of the Numbers gathered immediately in Alexandria courtyard, right below the black portal.
But the expected black beasts didn't emerge out of the portal. Instead the figure of the First of the Seven Shades, Lady Alpha, emerges from the portal, carrying the body of a blue haired girl we do not recognize.
But this is great news! Lord Shadow and Lady Alpha have returned!
This is great news… definitely great news… so why… Lady Alpha. Why do you look so sad?
"Welcome back, Lady Alpha." Gamma greets the first of the Shades but she does not respond. Instead she stares at the corpse of the girl she brought with her as she lays the body on the ground.
"L-Lady Alpha? What's wr-" Epsilon was about to call out to her but I shut her mouth, urging her and Gamma to give Lady Alpha some space... Because I noticed that the face she's currently making… is the same face she made two years ago… when she returned from an expedition to one of Necromancer's tombs with the bodies of the Numbers she failed to save.
Epsilon, the one who received her in that state back then, immediately gets the hint.
So this girl isn't a random person to you… but someone you considered precious… precious like us… in the Shadow Garden… who are like families to you?
"Who are you two!?" We hear one of the Numbers shout as she and others point their swords at two unknown individuals suddenly appearing in the courtyard without us noticing, one with red hair and one with green hair. The two of them seems afraid but didn't reply as the Numbers keep shouting questions at them.
"You girls. Lower your blades." Lady Alpha says commandingly as she stands up to face the two girls.
"Alpha-sensei!" They called her by name… and the red haired one even runs towards her to give her a hug, which Lady Alpha reciprocates. They know Lady Alpha? Since when? And what does sensei mean?
Then they speak to Lady Alpha in a language I cannot understand while crying, as if in mourning, perhaps mourning the deceased individual currently laying on the ground.
"Lady… Alpha?" I try to speak with her… She wipes her tear and finally looks at me.
"I… apologize… but please… give me some time to mourn. Give these two girls a room to rest in…" She says as she points at the two still loving girls.
"And… give her a proper burial. Please." Lady Alpha says with sorrow I've never seen her express in years as she pleads us to bury the blue haired girl. Yes. She pleaded instead of commanding.
"Of course! Right away!" Gamma says as she immediately escorts the two strangers to a private room in Alexandria castle as Epsilon orders the Numbers to dig a grave in the Alexandria cemetery where we buried our fallen comrades. The fact that Lady Alpha asked us to give her a proper burial like we always did to fallen Shadow Garden members means she considered her as an honorary Shadow Garden member… a sister whom we lost before we could get to know her.
"Lady Alpha…" I say as I pat her shoulder, only for her to pull me into a hug and cries.
"I'm sorry… I will... explain… but now… I can't…" She speaks in between sobs.
"It's okay, Lady Alpha. Take your time." I say as I return the hug.
