It was a quiet Saturday morning at Scully's apartment. The triplets, now a little over a year old, were scattered across the living room, engrossed in their own little worlds. Beatrice was flipping through a board book, Sabrina was babbling to a stuffed bunny, and Joanna was trying to figure out how to stack some colorful blocks.
Mulder sat on the floor, sipping his coffee while keeping a watchful eye on the girls. Scully was seated on the couch, folding a tiny pile of baby clothes. It was the kind of rare, peaceful moment they cherished amid the chaos of raising triplets.
"They're getting braver," Mulder remarked, nodding toward Joanna, who was standing up, holding onto the edge of the coffee table for support.
"They are," Scully replied with a smile. "They've been testing their limits more every day. It won't be long before we have three little walkers running us ragged."
As if on cue, Joanna let go of the coffee table and stood there, wobbling slightly. Mulder and Scully froze, their eyes locked on her.
"Is she...?" Mulder started, his voice hushed with excitement.
Joanna took a hesitant step forward, her tiny arms outstretched for balance. Then another. And another. She teetered but managed to stay upright.
"She's walking!" Scully exclaimed, her voice filled with awe and pride.
Joanna grinned, her confidence growing as she toddled toward Mulder, who had instinctively held out his arms. When she reached him, he scooped her up, laughing. "You did it, Jo! You walked!"
Hearing the excitement, Beatrice and Sabrina looked over. Sabrina seemed to take it as a challenge and pushed herself up from the floor. Holding onto the edge of the couch, she steadied herself, then let go.
"Oh my God, Sabrina's trying too," Scully said, quickly setting the laundry aside.
Sabrina wobbled but managed a few steps before plopping down on her diapered bottom. Instead of crying, she burst into giggles, clearly pleased with herself.
"Good job, Sabrina!" Mulder cheered, clapping his hands.
Not to be outdone, Beatrice abandoned her book and crawled to the middle of the room. With determination in her eyes, she pulled herself up and stood on her own. After a brief pause, she took a step, then another, before stumbling into Scully's waiting arms.
"Oh, Beatrice," Scully said, laughing as she hugged her tightly. "You're all growing up so fast."
For a moment, the room was filled with laughter and clapping as the girls, encouraged by their parents' enthusiasm, continued their wobbly attempts to walk. Joanna was already making another go of it, this time venturing farther, while Sabrina eagerly followed suit.
Mulder sat back, watching the scene with a wide grin. "We're going to need a bigger house just to keep up with them," he joked.
Scully, still holding Beatrice, looked over at him, her eyes shining with happiness. "I wouldn't trade this for anything," she said softly.
"Me neither," Mulder replied, reaching over to take her hand.
As the triplets toddled around the room, their giggles filling the air, Mulder and Scully shared a look of pure joy. It was one of those moments that made all the sleepless nights, the endless diaper changes, and the chaos of parenting more than worth it.
