Hello everybody I'm back with another chapter. Please leave a review, it means a lot to me to see how well I did and/or how I can improve. Please enjoy Chapter 9 of PAW Patrol: Mission Paws on Mars.

Chapter 9: Skye's first flight

About a year went by after the accident with Chase and Rocky's rocket. Rocky was able to fix the problem in the design of the rocket and did another successful test flight. Meanwhile Skye continued training at the Johnsons space center in Huston.

Skye worked hard on her training, despite the constant harassment of people who believed that dogs should never be allowed to do human stuff. Sarah was Skye's only true friend at the Johnsons space center. They trained together, played together, and laughed together.

Eventually it the time came for Skye's first rocket flight. Skye was supper exited for her first flight into space. When Chase heard about it he secretly asked if he could come along as a surprise for her. Skye worked hard to get ready for her test flight.

When the Day came Skye walked up to the Kennedy launch facility in Florida. She could barely contain her excitement. Inside the facility she was meeting by the two experienced astronauts going with her on the mission. They ran through the mission with her and showed her everything she would be doing. That's when Chase snuck up and surprised her.

"I hear somebody's going on their first space mission today," Chase said.

Skye jumped and spun around!

"Chase!" Skye yelped.

"Hehe, Skye, it's good to, oof, see you," Chase said as Skye embraced him in a hug.

"Oh it's been so long since I've seen you," Skye said.

"Yeah it has, I never would have thought that we would be separated for long periods of time like that," Chase said.

"So what are you doing here," Skye asked.

"Well, I heard that you were going on your first mission so I wanted to surprise you. Since I've been on a few missions already I asked if I could ride along with you," Chase said with a smile.

"You're joking, you convinced them to let you come along with me," Skye said.

"Yup, I'm coming with you, surprise," Chase said.

Skye yipped with joy doing her signature back flip.

"Thank you Chase, I was so nervous about this flight, but with you with me I think I'll be alright," Skye said.

Chase blushed at Skye's words. With that the four astronauts got their gear on and headed to the rocket. Once the launch crew helped them get in and Huston gave permission for the launch, the experienced astronauts launched the rocket into the sky.

Once the rocket was a good ways up into space the experienced astronauts detached the back end of the rocket. Skye's mission was simple; all she had to do was pilot this new type of space craft that had the abilities of a modern day aircraft. All Skye had to do was pilot the craft in a figure 8 around the moon and the earth. If everything went smoothly the mission should take about 2 weeks.

Once they reached the proper altitude the other astronauts gave the controls over to Skye. Skye put her paws on the yoke of the craft. She tried to move her paws to the controls but was so nervous she couldn't bring her paws to the necessary control panels. Chase noticed her uneasiness and floated over to her.

"Hey Skye, you nervous?" Chase asked.

"Yeah, very, what if I slip up or something," Skye said with concern, her paw slightly shaking.

Chase gently wrapped his paws around her trembling paws. The feeling of Chase's paws around hers calmed her down and stopped her shaky paw.

"To be a good pilot one must have steady paws," Chase said. "And you are a pup with steady paws. Skye I've seen you fly an F-15 fighter jet, this space craft is no different then that. If any pup can pilot this bucket, it's you Skye," Chase said.

Skye looked up into Chase's eyes. A fire of love, trust, and confidence burned in the shepherds eyes. Suddenly Chase's confidence flowed through into Skye's heart. She smiled and nodded her head, while Chase floated back to his seat.

Skye placed her paw on the throttle and looked back at Chase. He nodded at her; she took a deep breath and slowly pushed on the throttle. The space craft slowly moved forward. Skye completed her first mission with no trouble at all.

After that Skye was then fully qualified to pilot NASAS space craft's. Skye and Chase over the course of a year and a half went on 4 more missions together and both grew in confidence of each other's skills.

Eventually NASA got word that Star, the golden lab Chase met on the moon base, had gathered valuable information of the geography of mars as well as other stuff. So NASA called a meeting to discuss how to get star back to earth so he could show them the info he had gathered. Chase and Skye were both called in for this meeting.

The Chas and Skye along with Rocky walked up NASA'S Headquarters in Washington D.C for the meeting. Chase and Skye sat down around the big conference table. The leader of NASA, Bill Nelson started the meeting.

"I want to start off by thanking everyone for being here. Today we are here to discuss a way to bring NASA astronomer Star Labrador back from the moon base to discuss information he's gathered on Mars," Bill said.

"Getting him back hear would be fairly easy due to the rocket technology we have now days. The real question is how much money we are willing to spend on a rocket to bring him back," Chase said.

"Exactly, we want to save money for the actual Mars mission, the less money we spend on missions the better," Bill said.

"I think I have a solution for that," Rocky said.

"And what would that be," Bill said.

"I've designed a new Rocket type that is has all the basic rocket mechanics, but it's canine specified tech, so it will ultimately be a lot smaller then a normal rocket. It is designed specifically for missions like this. It only has space for three dogs to fit inside it has a back half to get out of the atmosphere and then a re-entry capsule. But since it is a lot smaller then a normal rocket it will be cheaper to build and run," Rocky said.

"That actually sounds like a good idea," Chase said.

"Chase and Skye, you're our best canine astronughts we have, would you two be willing to run this mission?" Bill asked.

"This space puppy's gotta fly," Skye said.

"Chase is on the case," Chase said.

"Alright then, let's do this for the good of the world," Rocky said.

With that the next mission was set in motion. Rocky would spend the next 5 months building and preparing the rocket. Meanwhile Chase and Skye spent that time training for the mission. The world was ever so close to getting to Mars. Star's information gathered over 7 years on Mars would be a big step in accomplishing the goal. Only time would tell if that goal would be reached.

So the next mission is planed, but missions don't always go according to plan. What will happen next, come back next time on PAW Patrol: Mission Paws on Mars.
