Back at our apartment above Dante Bookstore Clayse left for her teacher aid job. Our other roommate Ian was probably at his grill job. My favorite was the days off when they had work. I got into my hoodie and sweats, snacking on my favorite trail mix as I open my laptop. Luckily my kindle was downloaded onto it. Opening Midnight Mask I continued to read. The whole day passed when I finished the book for the nine hundredth time. A giddy feeling in my chest about Ryder going in search of his forbidden partner. In reference to Colins love for his true love Pene.
Who ever she is out there, hope she can handle tings roughly Ryder's last words as he kicks out his shift and ride off in search of her.
Aggravated at the author to have us fans waiting with no word for almost a year. At least a date would have been nice for the next book. I look up Holly Mansgetty, middle age, wrote a couple of other books but Midnight Mask was her highest seller.
She posted her life and family on her only social media account. I kept browsing when a roaring engine was reaved outside in the street. I went over and took a peek behind the curtain. The street lights lite nothing to see. I returned back to my laptop when a knock sounded at the door. I answered it expecting one of Clayse admirers. My view was of a wide chest in black clothing. Looking up my breath caught. The cold blue eyes of the gentleman who resembled Ryder right in front of me. My face heated, he gazed at me intensely, that ocean analyzing me from the top of my head to the socks on my feet. The look turning primal. My hand started to close the door on his face when his shot out to stop it. A sense of warning had me scared but that easily turned to pissed.
"Can I help you?" I snapped, my sight on his hand as it eased the door opened some more. He tilted his head at me before holding something up from his hand. My jaw dropped.
"You stole my Tablet!" I tried to snatch it but he was much quicker than me.
"Who said anything about stealing?" his voice like melting honey over your skin, smooth and hot "I found this on the street with this address written inside with a name."
I gulped "how fortunate for me" I tried to regain my composure and grab for it again but he was not relenting.
"there's not reward for it just so you know" this time I waited with my hand out.
"Is your name Dani Summers?" his mouth saying my name like a dessert.
"Yes, and that's my property, please return it."
"Do you have ID to prove it?"
"seriously" this man whoever he was. I marched to my bag and grabbed for my wallet. Turning around he was right up behind me., very close and inside my home.
"Whoa, Hey, you can't come in here without an invitation" I step away.
He smirks "I'm not a vampire."
"I don't care, your not allowed in here" I tried pushing him back towards the door but he wouldn't budge.
"Its like moving a concrete wall" I mumble. I felt him shake a bit like laughter.
"Listen" I gave up "I have two roommates who will be here any second and I will tell them you're an intruder. One has a gun and the other is trigger happy."
He looked menacingly but not creepy, just like he took ownership doing whatever the hell he pleased.
"I'm not trying to harm you" he tells, I realize we were once again standing very close. I took in his features, the slight scar on his face my fingers itching to touch it. He had some scruff along his jaw, he took notice of my staring and those lips curved into a lopsided smirk before he purposely licked them. I felt like my glasses were about to fog up.
"Look" I cleared my throat holding up my ID, he swept his eyes over it then back at me.
"Cute" he holds out my tablet for me. I snatch it away backing up.
"Well thank you Mr…." my pulse raced at what he'll say.
"Names Crimson" he answered. My disappointment was apparent.
"that's a weird name" I mutter.
"it's a nickname I earned" a dark undertone to his reply.
"ok" I say "well again…thank you" I motion towards the door. Nothing.
"I'm not usually being shown out by women" he quips.
I roll my eyes, this man's ego.
"Like I said, roommates and a gun."
He chuckles "not very trusting, are you?"
"You don't look trustworthy" I point.
He nods his head in a touché manner while walking out.
"Numbers in your tablet if you ever want to grab a drink" he throws over his shoulder heading down the hallway.
I open my tablet and it goes to the main page, not locked.
"Hey!" I shout at him "how did you unlock it?!"
He laughs darkly and disappears.
