Our world is…far from perfect but is quite the interesting place to live. A long time ago, humanity began to develop what were previously known as "metahuman abilities" which manifested from nowhere. These gave so many of us powers we couldn't believe were real, but…not everyone was taking the news well. Riots and fights broke out between the "meta humans" and those who were without any power, calling us things like mutants, freaks or even monsters. It wasn't until the one who originally gave rise to the spawn of meta humans, a boy who had the power to shine, led a movement to make the world a better place for all of us. It's thanks to these kind of people that, today, metahuman powers were renamed to a name we all use today: Quirks. And its thanks to Quirks that a new possibility was born: using their Quirk to become a Pro Hero, something straight out of comic books and action manga.
My name is Kazuto, Kazuto Midoriya, and I'm the adopted son of the coolest Hero I met: the Number One Hero and Symbol of Peace in Japan, Deku. If you ever knew him before, he used to just be a Quirkless nobody that was often ridiculed and shot down for his hopes of becoming a Hero like idol, the former Symbol of Peace, All Might. Fortune begun to smile on my stepdad's future when he had a chance encounter with All Might, inheriting his amazing power that was a torch passed across generations. That power's name…is One For All, the same Quirk I now have. Originally, this power was meant for one purpose: to finally defeat the Symbol of Fear and Japan's oldest but dangerous Villain, All For One. But now, All For One is gone…but my twin brother, Tetsuo, developed the Quirk on him because of "special reasons". If anyone knows what it means to be constantly shot down for things that weren't their fault, it was defintely him.
Thankfully, our dad, Izuku, and mom, Ochaco, along with the others we've met throughout our childhood, gave us the courage to keep our heads held high and eventually, people's outlook on Tetsuo changed. Those who used to hate or talked badly before now wish both of us good luck as we are about to follow a path similar to our parents. Today, we are now fifteen years old and will soon be attending the newly built U.A. University school on the shores of California in the United States…
My Hero Academia: New Futures
Chapter 01: Kazuto and Tetsuo: New Beginnings
~ Early Morning | Takoba Municipal Beach - Japan ~
As the morning sun was just beginning to come over the horizon, Kazuto sat alone on the stairs overlooking the glistening beach. It was where his stepfather, Izuku, began his ascension to becoming a Pro Hero with All Might backing him. He was wearing his favorite U.A. blue jacket and had a good majority of his things in a elongated gym bag, also carrying the emblem of U.A. on it. It was the day that he was looking forward to the most. Today was when he and his brother, Tetsuo, were leaving Japan and become foreign students at the U.A. school in America. However, he wasn't able to get much sleep and, when he saw the sun peeking through his room window, took a walk to think and reflect on where he came since being taken in by Izuku. Over time, his dad become the same to him as All Might was to Izuku. He let out a heavy sigh.
"Well…today's the day, Kazuto. You're going to America…with all the experience and training you got from dad…along with his Quirk, funny enough." he thought, glancing at his hand "You GOT to make dad proud. Do what it takes to become America's Symbol of Peace…go above what is expected of you…do what is necessary to protect others. Do what you must…to become a GREAT Hero!" Just then, he felt a hand on his shoulder, shocking him out of his inner monologue. He turned back to see his father, Izuku, looking down at him in his casual clothing. After One For All was reignited within him, he continued his muscle training and now was about on par build wise as All Might was when he graduated U.A. High but not as tall.
"I had a feeling you were going to be here, Kazuto." he said.
"O-Oh…hey, dad." the boy muttered. Izuku moved aside his gym bag before taking a seat next to him. The view laid out before him began to bring back his memories of the exhausting training he endured to inherit All Might's power.
"Heh. It's so funny. No matter how many times I come back here, the same memories seep their way into my head. Do you remember, Kazuto? This is not only where All Might trained me, but it's also where we would come to hone control of One For All." he said. Kazuto lightly chuckled.
"Yeah. I remember. You said we needed PLENTY of space if I was to pick up Air Force." he said, pausing briefly "Hey…you remember the time I was practicing that move only to accidentally blow away those tourists floating in the water?" The two began to snicker and then laugh.
"I'll never forget that. At the time, we didn't think anyone else was around. While your training did end up flipping over their floaties…at least you didn't harm anyone. But…that lifeguard definitely chewed us out." Izuku continued the story. They then laughed again, sounding like a father and his son. As the laughter subsided and they relaxed again, Izuku put a hand on his shoulder.
"Kazuto…I know things might be scary for you and Tetsuo. I originally thought you might consider enrolling in the U.A. we have here, closer to your home. But you told Agpar that you'd carry the torch of One For All from our shores to America…in means of honoring the memory of their fallen protector, Star and Stripes." Izuku said "You definitely have been giving it your all since then, never skipping on training unless you were sick. And, even though your mom and I can't help but worry, I know you're going to do great things." The boys glanced at each other, smiling as they gently fist bumped each other. A brief spark of One For All crackled between them upon contact.
"Don't ever forget this. We are proud of both you and Tetsuo. Ochaco also believes you'll do great, no matter what U.A. school you're enrolled in. As long as you remember to nurture your beliefs in protecting others and upholding justice, you'll probably go farther than I even had." he continued. Kazuto chuckled.
"I don't know, dad. That's quite the legacy to live up to. I mean…heck, you were the one Japan will forever remember as "the Hero who silenced All For One" and the only person to willingly sabotage their Quirk to protect the world." he said. Izuku smiled quietly.
"So? You don't HAVE to try and mimic what I did. In fact, based off the track record I had with this Quirk, I URGE you to not be quite as reckless as me…especially if it means breaking your limbs, fingers and bones." he replied, looking down at his hand.
"Y-Yeah. That still blows my mind when I think about it. When you inherited One For All from Uncle Toshinori, it was way too much for you to handle. Yet…when I inherited it from you, it just naturally came to me." Kazuto muttered "I..I hope I didn't make you jealous." Izuku shook his head before looking away with a slightly disappointed look, hoping Kazuto wouldn't notice.
"Maybe…a LITTLE BIT." he squeaked out. Kazuto smiled with hints of embarrassment, turning away himself.
"E-Either way, the point I'm trying to make, Kazuto, is that your mom and I believe in you. You're ready for this. You're as prepared as possible for what is awaiting you and Tetsuo in America. Your parents will NEVER stop worrying, out of love, but will also never stop being proud of you." Izuku resumed. Kazuto blushed, shedding a few tears as he and Izuku hugged.
"Thanks for that…dad." he sniffled. Izuku, still shedding tears as well, glimpsed at him. In his mind, he saw his younger self beginning to shine from Kazuto. To him, this felt like him giving support and courage to his old self, the Izuku just before he became All Might's successor. From afar, a voice then called out.
"Hey! Izuku! Kazuto! Are you two done?"
The boys looked back and saw Ochaco and Tetsuo waiting near a black limousine, Hawks and Lady Nagant in the front and the elder Toshinori riding in the back. She waved down to the two of them while carrying a young infant in her arms. The young one was Izuku and Ochaco's first biological child and the younger sister to Kazuto and Tetsuo. Toshinori stepped out of the limo.
"C'mon, Midoriyas. We've got to head out now if we're going to reach the airport." he called. Izuku and Kazuto looked at one another and nodded before hurrying to join them, Kazuto grabbing his bag and joined his brother's side.
~ PRESENT DAY ~
In reality, this was all a memory recalled as a dream as Kazuto was catching up on his sleep in the plane ride. He was leaned back in his seat, slightly snoring, with Tetsuo sitting right beside him. His brother quietly shook him.
"Kazuto? Kazuto…wake up!" he whisper shouted. Kazuto awoke with a brief snort, staring dumbfoundly at the roof above him.
"H-Huh? What?" Kazuto asked "Tetsuo? Where are we?" His brother lightly shook his head.
"We're on the plane heading for California, remember? When we took off, you got comfortable and fell right back asleep." Tetsuo explained "We could be landing sometime soon. So I wanted to make sure you were awake for it." Kazuto took a moment to look around him, seeing the other passengers minding themselves while some, noticably children, were looking his way.
"O-Oh, right. Sorry." he said, letting out a yawn "I had the weirdest dream. You ever have those moments where your "dreams" are just your brain playing the "film reel" of memories?" Tetsuo raised a brow.
"I…think that's a "you" thing, Kazuto." he chuckled "Only you could word it like that." They talked for a while longer before taking moments to stretch their limbs and get comfortable again.
"Kazuto…Kazuto…"
In his head, a voice began to speak to Kazuto. Looking towards the alley, he saw the ghostly figure of Yoichi, One For All's original owner, hovering by him albeit as his head and shoulders.
"Y-Yoichi? What is it? What are you doing here?" he whispered as to not disturb anyone, including his brother reading a brochure about the U.A. in America.
"Sorry for intruding like this. But…I couldn't help but be worried about how your brother is doing."
"H-Huh? Tetsuo? He's perfectly fine. He's still himself. So why worry?" Kazuto whispered.
"Did you forget what you overheard Deku talk about with Toshinori? It was shortly after the two of you went to the doctor."
Kazuto lightly gasped, quickly realizing Yoichi was talking about "that talk" when he playing nearby and couldn't help but hear them talking. Izuku had called Toshinori and asked him to come by for a talk.
So…is it really true, Midoriya? You…saw him?
Yeah. I'm afraid so. Even though he was MUCH younger than I remembered…it seems as if your worries were true. I tried to see if I could connect to the Quirk on the same scale as when I foguht Shigaraki…and that's when I saw him. Even if he is younger and not as dangerous, his vestige is now within my son, Tetsuo.
(Toshinori groans) All For One… (sigh)
Before you start imagining the worst, I wanted to let you know that…in a weird way, All For One WASN'T like himself.
Hmm? How so, Midoriya?
I can't exactly word it. But…he doesn't have the same overwhelming pressure he once wielded. He seemed…easier to converse with, like he finally regained a sense of morality. We even got to talk….and, simply put, he said…
Do not fret, Izuku Midoriya. Although my soul still resides within my power, I am in no position to assume complete control over this boy. If you wish, know that there is one more "guardian" who'll help Tetsuo achieve his dreams. This WON'T be the same as it was with Tomura…
He really told you that he views this as "atonement" for his crimes? Either way, make sure to keep a close eye on him. I'll support you as much as I can…because, I too, believe in young Tetsuo's potential.
"Don't worry. I haven't seen anything drastically different in my brother's behavior. I think its safe to say that this guy really may not mean any harm." Kazuto whispered.
"Part of me cannot help but remain worried. If you do not remember, the soul within your brother is that of my late older brother..the original user of All For One. He did truly terrible things to fulfill his own ambitions while trampling over the weak. If he is truly looking to repent, I'll let his actions do the talking."
"All right. Just know that you have me too. Tetsuo is my brother…and I won't let anyone else boss him around. Not like what happened with Dr. Garaki." Kazuto replied. Yoichi nodded before vanishing, leaving the two brothers alone.
~ At the Same Time | Musutafu, Japan ~
With his two stepchildren leaving for America, Izuku, dressed in his Hero attire, is seen riding through the streets with Toshinori driving. He heavily sighed, his former mentor catching on.
"Still thinking about the boys, Midoriya?" he asked. Izuku glanced his way before nervously chuckling.
"That obvious, huh?" he replied, Toshinori grinning back "Heh. Now I know how worried my mom was when I enrolled in U.A. and the number of times she fretted over the injuries I got because of my Quirk." Toshinori laughed.
"That's just what ALL parents do about their children, even those who are not their biological parents. Like you told Kazuto…just have faith in them, young man, and know they too will be helping make the world a better place just like you and Ochaco are." he said. Izuku smiled.
"I will, Toshinori. It's just…going to be funny without them around. But I'm sure I'll get used to it." he said "That'll make the times they have to visit that more special." Just then, the GPS system in Toshinori's car went off, set to only ring when it detected police radio signals or criminal activity reported from civilians.
"Looks like you've got work to do, Deku." he said "Don't forget. The people around here…still need their Symbol of Peace to help maintain order." Izuku smiled before nodding. Toshinori flipped a switch to retract the roof before Izuku briefly used One For All to leap out of his seat and began taking off with a combination of Float and Blackwhip. Remaining in the car, Toshinori followed close behind.
