Very sorry for the delay! Got busy with personal stuff and struggling with the lack of motivation.
Here is the first chapter in 2025 for this story! Enjoy!
Chapter 17: Queen of the Filolials
Everyone managed to exit the underground chamber as they finally reached outside. Naofumi was piggybacking Keel on his back. They then saw some smoke in the distance.
"What is going on?" Van wondered.
"The demihumans from your town are rioting outside." Tyler answered. "They came to bring you home with them, so you might wanna let them know that you're alright."
"Indeed."
Then, a sound of an explosion could be heard as it shook the ground a bit.
"What's that?" Naofumi wondered.
"Master, look over there." Filo pointed her master and the others to what she was seeing.
The stone monument was glowing and was crackling with blue electricity. Standing before the monument was none other Idol, who somehow managed to survive the fall.
"Oh no, not that fat piece of shit again!" Tyler whined.
"And he's still a major pain too. How's he still alive?" Chelsea stated.
"O' Supreme God!" Idol chanted as he was holding on to his rosary. "Grant me the power to rend the Devil asunder!" As he said that, a yellow magic circle appeared below the stone monument.
"Ah! Now I remember what's so significant about this stone monument!" Merleo shouted.
"What do you mean, Merleo?" Naofumi asked him.
"Long ago, the previous Heroes built this monument to seal away a very powerful monster forever!" Merleo informed them. "That fool! He is trying to remove the seal!"
Then, the ground beneath the stone monument started crumbling as light started to glow in the fissure.
"Yes, you're free now! Go and destroy everything! You are liberated from your prison!" Idol said maniacally as the light became more intense. "Bring divine judgment down upon the Devil of the Shield!"
The ground burst upward as a large monster came out from it. It was black-colored monster that resembled a theropod dinosaur with red eyes and sharp teeth, which also has a pair of elongated fangs. It has a red underbelly and white crown-like crest above the eyes and white spikes that spanned from the back of its head to tail.
"Nobody can withstand me now! If I can kill the Devil of the Shield, I will be eternally blessed by God!" Idol ranted as he let out a laugh.
What he did not know was that the monster he just released had no intention of abiding to his will and said monster immediately planted his foot on the laughing nobleman, crushing him and killing him instantly. The monster roared, causing a gust of wind emanating from the roar to briefly blow across Naofumi and the others. Fortunately, it was not enough to blow them away.
"Tyrant Dragon Rex…" Merleo muttered.
"Is that the name of this monster?" Kurisu asked.
"Indeed it is."
"It looks like a Tyrantrum on steroids." Tyler commented as he and the others watched the monster go on a rampage, damaging some of the buildings with its tail swipe and headbutt. The knights were not as foolish as to pick a fight with it as they immediately retreated.
"Oh no! This isn't looking good!" Naofumi stated. "We gotta get outta here!"
"Right!" Raphtalia and the rest of Naofumi's party nodded as they turned around and left the place.
Unbeknownst to them, the Tyrant Dragon Rex got itself fixated on one of them as it saw them running away.
The party, along with Van, managed to get far enough from the Tyrant Dragon Rex's carnage as they stopped behind a building.
"You okay, Van?" Naofumi asked the nobleman. He also put Keel down, allowing Raphtalia to look after him.
"I believe so…" Van answered.
"It's not right!" Melty began. "That horrible man set a monster loose all because he wanted to kill Naofumi!"
"What else is new?" Naofumi deadpanned.
"Oh, Keel…" Raphtalia muttered.
"I'll be alright…" Keel assured his old friend.
"So, Naofumi. Got any ideas on what to do?" Tyler asked his leader. "With that big running around in town, it's gonna be hard to get away from it."
"Good question. All I can think of is getting outta here first—" Naofumi replied before he was interrupted by the sound of something being destroyed.
Everyone was alerted by the noise and realized that the Tyrant Dragon Rex had found them, having poked its head out through a building it just destroyed.
"Oh, shoot! That thing found us!" Chelsea stated.
"But how?" Raphtalia wondered as the large monster was looking right at them.
'Damn! We don't stand a chance!' Naofumi cursed as he and the others braced themselves for a hard fight.
"Damn lizard!" Filo stated before she zoomed towards the dinosaur-like monster in her Filolial Queen form.
"No, Filo!" Melty warned her best friend but it fell on deaf ears.
"Filo!" Naofumi cried.
Filo ran towards the Tyrant Dragon Rex before jumping to it and kicking it, but the attack did not seem to faze the large monster in the slightest. Naofumi then had his shield transformed into Chimera Viper Shield.
"You can't fight that thing here!" Melty warned him. "We're right in the middle of town!"
"Yeah, I know!" Naofumi replied. "We'll have to lure it away from here first."
"Good idea. How?"
"Hey, look!" Tyler shouted as he pointed his finger to both Filo and the Tyrant Dragon Rex, with the former still trying to fight the latter. For a brief moment, they have something glowing inside them. Filo got something glowing in her belly while the Tyrant Dragon Rex has a glowing part on its chest.
"From the looks of it, that Tyrantrum-esque monster was focusing its attention on just Filo." Kurisu theorized.
"Alright, then that means she's the one who can lure it out of town." The Shield Hero said. "Except—"
"Don't worry about the two of us." Van intercepted, knowing full well what his savior was about to say. "Keel will be alright. I'll get him to safety."
"Thanks. Good luck!"
"Hey! Let us in on the action too!" Everyone turned around to see Karrablast and Shelmet, who had determined looks on their faces.
"Are you sure? You two would better off with me and—"
"I know that we're here just to rescue you, but…" Karrablast said. "I also feel like we should be helping out on this too."
"So, what you're saying is that you're going with us?" Chelsea asked.
"You got that right!" Karrablast said as Shelmet nodded.
"If you're dead set on coming with us, then who am I to say no." Naofumi said. "Just don't hold us back."
"You got it!"
The Shield Hero then turned towards Raphtalia, who was holding Keel. "Come on, let's go."
Raphtalia then looked towards Keel with worry, feeling that she could not let her friend go just yet. But…
"Raphtalia… You're a member of the Shield Hero's party, right?" Keel asked as his friend turned towards him. "Then you have to go. No need to worry about me." He then grabbed Raphtalia's hand. "Go on."
"Are you sure?" The racoon dog demihuman asked.
"The two of us will be just fine." Van assured her before motioning to the sound of his demihuman villagers rioting in the distance. "Don't worry, we'll rejoin my people."
After giving much thought into it, Raphtalia eventually decided to do what must be done. "Alright then. Make sure Keel's safe!"
"I promise." Van promised.
"Filo!" Naofumi called out to Filo, who immediately abandoned the fight to heed her master's call.
"Coming!" Filo replied as she rushed back to her master's side.
"Please, be careful." Keel told them as he was carried by Van.
"I will." Raphtalia then took off her golden bracelet before giving it to Keel. "I'm sure we'll meet again someday."
"And that just leaves on what to do with these two." Naofumi said as he turned towards Karrablast and Shelmet. "Who's gonna catch them?"
"While we did agree to let them come with us…" Kurisu began. "We forgot to decide on who will be catching them."
"Hmm…" Merleo hummed as he looked at the two Pokémon before looking at Filo and Melty. It was then that he had an idea. "May I propose something? I believe Princess Melty and Filo should catch them."
"Are you sure?" Naofumi asked. Not that he had any issues on letting Filo catch another Pokémon, but he certainly had doubts that Melty could handle being a Pokémon Trainer.
"Me!?" Melty exclaimed as Filo turned back into her human form.
"Wow! A new Pokémon for me?" Filo said excitedly.
"Oh, that's a great idea!" Kurisu supported the idea. "Filo and Mel are very similar to those two, so it'll be fitting to catch a special pair of Pokémon as them."
"Special pair?" Naofumi repeated before he put that thought on hold for now. "In that case, give them an empty Poké Ball now!"
"Got it." Tyler and Chelsea said in unison before the two gifted both girls with an empty Poké Ball each.
"O-Okay. Here goes!" Melty said as she and Filo threw the Poké Balls towards the duo of Bug type Pokémon. Melty's Poké Ball hits Karrablast while Filo's hits Shelmet, causing the two of them to go inside the Poké Balls. The two Poké Balls shaked three times before stopping with a "Ding!" sound.
"So… my very own Pokémon…" Melty muttered as she picked up the Poké Ball before putting it away.
"Yay! I have another friend!" Filo cheered as she put her new Pokémon away before transforming into her Filolial Queen form, allowing Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Melty to get on her back.
"Rapidash, come on out!" Tyler said as he threw Rapidash's Poké Ball into the air.
"You too, Sawsbuck!" Chelsea said as she threw Sawsbuck's Great Ball.
Both Poké Balls opened up as two quadruped Pokémon came out and landed on the ground. Tyler and Kurisu get on Rapidash while Chelsea gets on Sawsbuck's back along with Merleo.
"Come on, let's go!" Naofumi said.
"Roger!" Filo, Rapidash, and Sawsbuck said in unison as they took off, leaving Van and Keel.
The Tyrant Dragon Rex saw its quarry running away from it and decided to give chase, ignoring Van and Keel.
Let it not be said that the monster has no issues of smashing through buildings to buildings just chasing Filo, Rapidash, and Sawsbuck.
"Filo, up there!" Naofumi ordered his Filolial slave.
"No problem!" Filo complied as she jumped into the rooftop of a building before running through rooftop to rooftop.
"Rapidash!" Tyler said.
"Say no more, Tyler! I'm on it!" Rapidash said as she followed Filo along with Chelsea's Sawsbuck, who managed to keep up.
The Tyrant Dragon Rex persistently chased after Filo as many townspeople ran away from it.
"Well, it's definitely coming after Filo!" Melty said as she turned around to see that dinosaur-like monster was still chasing after them, particularly Filo.
"Yep!" Naofumi said as the Tyrant Dragon Rex stomped through a couple of small buildings.
"I gave away the bracelet. Sorry about that." Raphtalia apologized to her master.
"You're free to do what you want with it." The Shield Hero replied. "I gave it to you."
The Tyrant Dragon Rex gave out another roar as Filo, Rapidash, and Sawsbuck passed through a tower, which the Tyrantrum-like monster broke through as it ran.
Filo, Rapidash, and Sawsbuck jumped over the walls that led to outside of the town as they landed and ran through the woods.
"How much further are we going?" Filo asked.
"As far as possible!" Naofumi told her.
"The same goes for you, Rapidash!" Tyler stated.
"You too, Sawsbuck!" Chelsea added.
"On it!" Both the Fire Horse Pokémon and the Season Pokémon said in unison as they heed their Trainer's orders.
Then, they heard another sound of something crashing as some of them turned around and realized that the Tyrant Dragon Rex broke through the walls of the town before continuing to chase after them.
Filo, Rapidash, and Sawsbuck were still running away through the woods as the monster behind them smashed through trees and was still able to keep up with them. Eventually, they saw what appeared to be a forest clearing up ahead.
"We're almost through the forest!" Melty informed them as they went through what was up ahead.
The area they just entered was a vast clearing with what appeared to be a lake in the center.
"I think this'll do." Naofumi stated as everyone got off from their mount.
"Everybody, ready for this?" Naofumi asked as he readied his Chimera Viper Shield as well as sending out his Lairon into the battle.
"Let's take this thing down!" Raphtalia said as she sent out Doublade to assist her.
"Let's kick its ass!" Tyler said as he was ready with Hydreigon at his side after returning Rapidash.
"Yup!" Chelsea added as she swapped out Sawsbuck for Delphox.
Kurisu and Merleo simply nodded as they brought Kadabra and Riolu respectively.
"I'll do my best!" Filo said as she summoned Golett and her brand new Pokémon Shelmet.
Melty nodded as she had Karrablast by her side.
"I say bring it! The bigger they are, the harder they fall!" Karrablast said.
It did not take long for the Tyrant Dragon Rex to appear from the trees and was charging at them.
"Let's go! Air Strike Shield!" Naofumi shouted as he used a skill to block the monster's attack before it could hit him. However, the Tyrant Dragon Rex eventually overpowered it and destroyed the shield barrier. "What!?"
"Rock Slide!" Lairon shouted as he conjured multiple gray boulders before he threw it at his opponent, which did nothing. "Damn it! It did nothing!"
Filo ran towards the draconic monster once more with Golett and Shelmet at her side before kicking it.
"…!" Golett then unleashed a Shadow Punch right to its face.
"Bug Buzz!" Shelmet then let out a loud buzz with red waves.
Sadly, the combined attacks did not seem to faze the large monster at all. But Filo did not give up as she immediately went for a kick on the underside, which was also met with the same result.
"If you're attacking with Special Attack moves, then leave this to me! Acid Spray!" Karrablast shouted as he shot a glob of purple acid at the monster, causing it to be briefly enveloped in a blue aura. "Now!"
"Zweit Aqua Slash!"
"Zweit Holy!"
Both Melty and Merleo unleashed their offensive magic spell at the Tyrant Dragon Rex.
"Now, Kadabra! Unleash Psybeam!"
"Hydreigon, hit 'im with Dragon Pulse!"
"Delphox, use Dazzling Gleam!"
Three of the Pokémon unleashed their respective moves, with Kadabra firing a pink energy beam from his spoon, at the Tyrant Dragon Rex. Despite having its Special Defense stat lowered by two stages, the combined attack did not seem to make significant damage.
"Seriously!? Even after Acid Spray is used!?" Tyler exclaimed. 'I don't think even my gunshot will be able to put a dent on it.'
"Yeah. And seeing it looks like Tyrantrum, we thought it would be weak to Dragon and Fairy type moves." Chelsea added. "From the looks of it, it doesn't actually to be the case."
Kurisu and Raphtalia tried using their weapons to attack the Tyrant Dragon Rex, but none of their weapons was able to damage it.
'I can't cut it!' Raphtalia thought.
'Damn… the scales on this must be really tough!' Kurisu thought as even her tonfas failed to hurt the large monster.
"Force Palm!"
"Swords Dance! And then Night Slash!"
Doublade increased his Attack stat by two stages before joining Riolu in the attack via Night Slash from his two swords. Much like their Trainers, they were unable to hurt their opponent.
"My word…! It could withstand even my Swords Dance-enhanced Night Slash!?" Doublade exclaimed.
"Yeah… I'm starting to see why the previous Heroes just sealed this guy away." Riolu muttered.
'It's slow. But we can't even scratch it! Even with Pokémon…!' Naofumi thought.
"Hey, Master! Give the three of us a leg-up!" Filo said as she ran towards the Tyrant Dragon Rex once more with Golett and Shelmet on her back. She leaped out once more before landing another kick at the monster's face, which did nothing.
"Okay, Air Strike Shield!" Naofumi shouted as he made another green shield-shaped barrier to allow Filo to use it as a landing pad and then to jump away from the wingless Dragon. "Second Shield!" A second green barrier appeared just in time for Filo to land on it and use as a momentum to dive towards her draconic opponent with a kick, followed by another Shadow Punch and Bug Buzz from her Golett and Shelmet respectively.
Like with all of the other attempts, however, the combined power from the attacks did nothing to hurt the monster as Filo was forced to jump away from it.
"Nothing's working!" Naofumi exclaimed.
"One more!" Raphtalia said before she ran towards the Tyrant Dragon Rex.
"Right!" Doublade as well as Kurisu and Riolu nodded as they ran after Raphtalia.
The Tyrant Dragon Rex began to feel annoyed by the attack and proceeded to lift its foot up before stomping down, causing a small tremor and some pieces of the ground flying into the air and raining down onto Raphtalia, Kurisu, and their Pokémon.
The four of them managed to dodge the falling debris as the Tyrant Dragon Rex did a tail swipe to Naofumi and Lairon, causing both of them to be sent flying and then landed near the edge of the lake.
"Master Naofumi!" Raphtalia called out her master.
"We're fine! Go on!" Naofumi assured her.
"I hate to say it, buddy…" Lairon began as he got up. "But I think this thing is way above our league."
"Yeah, you're right." Naofumi agreed. "Which means, it's time to use the Rage Shield…!" But just as he was about to do so…
"Don't."
Naofumi suddenly heard an unfamiliar voice in his head, which caused him to stop what he was doing.
"Naofumi, what's wrong?" Lairon asked his Trainer.
"Naofumi." The Shield Hero turned to see Melty and Merleo approaching him with their Pokémon in tow.
"Sir Naofumi. I believed me and Princess Melty had sensed something most unusual. And I don't mean the Tyrant Dragon Rex." Merleo stated.
"What do you mean?"
Before Naofumi could get a proper answer, the atmosphere around them was suddenly covered by a mysterious mist.
"Uh, guys… a freaky mist suddenly appeared around us…!" Tyler informed them.
"Oh my…" Merleo muttered. "I believe this is a high level Magic Field!"
"Yes, I think so too." Melty added.
"And what does that mean?" Naofumi replied. "Are you two saying we're trapped?"
Raphtalia's ears were twitching as she heard multiple footsteps, which was getting louder and louder the more she heard it.
"There's something coming!" Raphtalia alerted them as the "something" came out from the trees… it was revealed to be a large flock of Filolials of varying colors. The flock of them split and ran in two separate directions.
"It's a buncha Filolials!" Melty stated.
Everyone realized that the Filolials formed a barricade to surround the Tyrant Dragon Rex.
"What the hell is this!?" Naofumi exclaimed as everyone regrouped with him.
"So, any ideas what the hell is going on?" Tyler asked his friends.
"I have no idea…" Kurisu muttered, eyeing the Filolials.
"Same." Chelsea added.
The Tyrant Dragon Rex roared as it got agitated by the appearance of Filolials.
"Okay, now what!?" Naofumi shouted as he tried to activate Rage Shield but something was interfering with his shield. It was written "CAUTION: Detecting transformation jamming" in the notice that he received in his UI.
"Please. Do not resort to that power!" The same voice that he heard before rang once more in his head.
"WHO ARE YOU!?" Naofumi asked aloud.
The winds suddenly changed direction as everyone heard something in the lake as before turning towards it. The center of the lake suddenly bubbling up as something big jumped out from the lake.
"What…?" Naofumi mouthed as that "something" landed in front of them, causing the dust on the ground to fly into the air, obscuring the view.
When the dust settled, they were able to see something in full view.
It was a Filolial Queen, just like Filo, except with a few differences. On top of her size dwarfing even Filo in her Filolial Queen form, she has pinkish red eyes, blue feathers on her chest feathers and the tip of two feathery protrusion. And she also had five feathers with yellow tips lined up on her face like a crown.
"No way… It's the Filolial Queen!" Melty exclaimed.
"She's so pretty…!" Filo added.
"Whoa…" Hydreigon muttered as he and his fellow Pokémon were also at awe at the newcomer as the others.
"Stand back." The large Filolial Queen advised them as she turned to face the Tyrant Dragon Rex.
"The Dragon Emperor's fragment has caused your body to grow beyond control." She told the dinosaur-like monster. "If you hand over the fragment peacefully, I shall spare your life." The Filolial Queen demanded but the monster in front of her simply snarled at her. "You have been warned!"
The Tyrant Dragon Rex simply charged this newcomer.
"Watch out!" Melty warned the Filolial Queen.
"As you wish." The Filolial Queen immediately considered it a challenge as she scratched the ground with one of her talons before kicking her attacker away, causing it to actually stagger backwards.
Everyone was surprised as this newcomer was able to do something against this particularly strong monster.
The dinosaur-like monster proceeded to catch itself from falling before it launched a stream of orange red flames at the Filolial Queen.
"Pathetic." With a swipe of her wing, the Filolial Queen conjured up a blue magic circle which she used to protect herself from the flames.
Naofumi used Air Strike Shield to protect himself and the others from the attack as well.
"I'm finishing this now!" The Filolial Queen declared as she suddenly vanished into thin air, with the sheer force causing a strong gust of wind that briefly blew the surrounding area. She then appeared behind the Tyrant Dragon Rex, followed by a gush of blood suddenly bursting from all over its body as if it was slashed on all sides.
The Tyrant Dragon Rex let out one final roar before it collapsed to the lake on its side, finally dead. Everyone could not believe as they just witnessed the large Filolial Queen have managed to kill something that gave them a hard time. The Filolial Queen then picked up a large purple crystal fragment from the Tyrant Dragon Rex's corpse before stashing it away somewhere.
She then looked towards Naofumi.
"I take it that you're the Shield Hero? Am I correct?" The Filolial Queen asked.
"That's right." Naofumi answered.
"There is much I wish to discuss with you." The Filolial Queen stated. "But this form isn't exactly suitable. One moment please." She then used her wings to cover her head, causing her body to be enveloped in a blue energy and began shrinking down considerably. The light then disappeared as she opened her wings.
Standing before everyone was the Filolial Queen in human form. It took the form of a short girl with short, white hair and red eyes. She wore a white and red dress with white and red sleeves, red ribbon and choker. Another prominent feature of her are the three strands of white hair with yellow tips on top of her head, which were styled like cow licks.
"Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Queen of all the Filolials in the world. My name is Fitoria." The one named Fitoria introduced herself. "Nice to meet you."
"Fitoria… As in THE Fitoria!?" Merleo exclaimed.
"Do you know her?" Tyler said.
"Of course! The name 'Fitoria' is common knowledge in this world." Merleo informed before he coughed to explain the reason. "Centuries ago, one of the Heroes at the time raised a Filolial called Fitoria!"
"Centuries ago…" Naofumi repeated. "So, that means you must've inherited the name or something, right?"
"No. The name 'Fitoria' has always belonged to me." Fitoria corrected.
"Do you think I'm gonna be as big as she is? I hope so!" Filo asked her master. She also had turned into her human form, causing Golett and Shelmet to get off of her.
"If you ever got as big as she is, you'd have to be on your own." Naofumi retorted, causing Filo to pout at him.
"If she were to grow to be as large as I am, it would take her dozens of times longer than the lifespan of a normal Filolial." Fitoria stated.
"Aw…!"
'She says she's been alive for that long?' Naofumi pondered.
"So, this is the party of the Shield Hero, is it?" Fitoria asked. "Please, tell me your names."
"Naofumi Iwatani." Naofumi introduced himself before gesturing towards his Lairon. "And this is one of my Pokémon, Lairon."
"Yo." The Iron Armor Pokémon greeted.
"I see…" Fitoria said as she immediately fixated towards Hydreigon. "Pokémon, you say? I can assume that this ferocious looking Three-Headed Dragon is a Pokémon as well?"
'Oh, geez… She immediately singled out Hydreigon just like Filo.' Tyler thought. "Well, the 'Three-Headed Dragon' is my partner! The name's Tyler Bryant by the way."
"And I'm Hydreigon…" Hydreigon introduced himself nervously. "I, uh… I'm not gonna pick a fight with you if you're wondering."
"Odd. Very odd." Fitoria stated. "Your appearance suggests that you are a ferocious fighter, but in reality you are actually docile? I don't understand this…"
"You know I can hear you, right?" The Brutal Pokémon sweatdropped.
"Anyway, I'm Raphtalia." Raphtalia introduced herself to Fitoria before gesturing to Doublade. "Much like Master Naofumi, I too have Pokémon on my side. This is Doublade, one of the Pokémon on my team."
"A pleasure to meet you." Doublade said as he bowed to her.
"A creature made of two swords…? How interesting…" Fitoria muttered.
"I'm Kurisu Hanatabi." It was Kurisu's turn to introduce herself. "And this is my partner, Riolu."
"Hello." Riolu waved hello.
"Hi, Your Majesty! I'm Filo!" Filo introduced herself before gesturing to her Pokémon. "And these are my Pokémon, Golett and Shelmet."
"…" Golett said nothing as he nodded to the Filolial Queen.
"H-Hello…" Shelmet greeted her.
Fitoria simply nodded, causing the young Filolial Queen to puff her cheeks.
"I am Merleo Goneri. I used to serve Melromarc as its court mage. Nowadays, I am a member of Sir Naofumi's party." Merleo introduced himself.
"Chelsea Arel." Chelsea stated. "And this is our Pokémon, Delphox and Kadabra."
The two Psychic type Pokémon nodded at Fitoria.
Fitoria then glanced at Melty. "And we've met before, haven't we? Thanks again for your assistance."
"Of course! My name is Melty Melromarc. It's a pleasure to see you." Melty replied as she did a curtsy at Fitoria.
"Yes. Sweet Mel…" Fitoria muttered, surprising Melty.
"Wait. Wha!?"
"You've met her before?" Naofumi asked her.
"Yes! I was on my way back to the capital after a diplomatic trip." Melty answered.
"I see." The Shield Hero said. "So, that's something you do often?" He asked, remembering how he met Melty the first time. Naofumi then changed the subject. "Anyway, not that I'm ungrateful for the help with Big Ugly over there or anything, but what do you want with us?"
"Answering that will take time, and…" Fitoria began. "This isn't the best place for a chat. Let's go somewhere more comfortable." She then gestured to a luxurious-looking carriage behind her.
Filo and Melty were marveled at the sight.
"Wait. Hang on." Naofumi said as he walked towards the corpse of the Tyrant Dragon Rex.
"Oh, that's right. Gotta get the spoils." Tyler said as he and Chelsea joined their leader in approaching the dead Dragon monster. But then…
"I really don't like the idea of a Cardinal Hero and other Heroes using Dragon material…" Fitoria commented as the three turned towards her..
"It's good fodder for the development of my shield." Naofumi said.
"Same." Tyler added while showing Fitoria his gun.
"Ditto." Chelsea chimed in with her hammer in tow.
"Please, don't. I sensed an ominous aura in your shield." Fitoria told Naofumi. "Curse powers may be impressive, but the consequence of using them is dire. You must trust me!"
"Don't worry about it." Naofumi assured her. "I've got it under control."
"That won't be the case for much longer." The Filolial Queen countered before she turned towards Tyler and Chelsea. "The same goes for the two of you."
"Us?" Chelsea repeated.
"You may not be Cardinal Heroes, but your weapons you two used have turned you into something like a Hero. Not in the same vein as the Cardinal Heroes, mind you, but Heroes nevertheless." Fitoria explained. "I advised not to resort to such dark powers."
"Huh… That's what that Glass lady said about me…" Tyler muttered, particularly the first part.
"Even so, We still need Dragon material. And in my case, I need that and the Rage Shield to survive."
Seeing as the three Heroes that were standing before her still intend on harvesting the corpse, Fitoria eventually relented.
"... Fine. Do what you must." She said, knowing it was pointless to argue any further.
Naofumi, Tyler, and Chelsea proceeded to take a sample of the corpse and let them be absorbed by the gems of their weapons, which resulted in them unlocking two new weapon forms in their weapon tree.
"I got what I needed…" Naofumi muttered as he and the two Kalosian Trainers were looking at their respective weapon tree.
"Looks like we're done here." Tyler said.
"Yeah." Chelsea nodded.
"Are you three quite finished?" Fitoria asked.
"Yeah, but…" Naofumi replied as he looked back at the corpse. "What about–"
"I'll have my family bring the remains along with us."
"All right." Naofumi said as he, Tyler, and Chelsea pulled out one Poké Ball each. Raphtalia and the others have all returned their Pokemon back to their Poke Ball before entering the carriage.
"Return!" Naofumi, Tyler, and Chelsea said in unison as they returned their Pokémon back inside their Poké Balls.
"Interesting… Small balls are used to contain these 'Pokémon' creatures…." Fitoria stated. "Now, if you're done, please get inside the wagon. I'll have some questions when we arrive."
"Okay…"
(Somewhere…)
A golden aura briefly enveloped an area that has ruins of a settlement.
"Portal." Fitoria's voice echoed as the carriage appeared in the thin air.
Then, everyone came out from the carriage and noticed their new surroundings.
"What just happened?" Raphtalia asked as she walked forward to allow the others to exit the carriage.
"Some kind of instant travel magic." Melty stated as she walked forward, allowing Filo and then Kurisu to come out.
"My guess it has something to do with the carriage we just rode on." Kurisu stated as the others managed to exit the carriage.
"Look at that." Naofumi said. "Impressive ruins."
"Imagine the history behind them…" Raphtalia muttered as she looked around the area.
"What a dump!" Filo said bluntly.
"Amazing…" Merleo mouthed.
"I'd say. It reminded me of the Lost Hotel on Route 15 and Route 16." Tyler commented.
"Lost Hotel?" Naofumi repeated.
"It's an old and abandoned hotel on the north side of Kalos." Chelsea explained. "From what I heard, it's a hangout spot for delinquents."
"I see. There were places like that too in your world." Kurisu said.
"Supposedly, these are the remnants of the civilization defended by the original Heroes." Fitoria explained.
"You don't sound too sure." Naofumi said.
"They've been like this since before I was born." The Filolial Queen stated. "But I watched over them now."
"This is a Filolial sanctuary, huh?" Melty asked.
"Correct." Fitoria confirmed. "In fact, I'm not supposed to bring humans here."
"Wow…!"
"Guess that means we'll be safe here… for the time being." Naofumi stated as everyone immediately heard the rumbling noise of Filo's stomach.
"Perhaps… You should all rest for a little while." Fitoria told the party.
"Yeah… Let's take a break." Naofumi said.
"Yippee~!" Filo cheered.
"I guess it's dinner time, huh?" Tyler stated, feeling a little bit hungry himself.
"In any case, I believe it's time for us to eat." Merleo added as Naofumi noticed the worried look on Raphtalia's face.
"I hope Keel is doing fine…" Raphtalia muttered.
"Van and the demihumans are with him." Naofumi assured her. "He'll be fine."
"... Yeah, you're right." The raccoon dog demihuman girl replied.
And with that, the party prepared for dinner. The meal for tonight was a stew cooked with meat from the Tyrant Dragon Rex. All of the Pokémon were sent out by their Trainers to chow on the Pokémon food that Tyler, Chelsea, and Kurisu made during their stay at Van's mansion. After a few minutes of preparation and cooking, the stew was ready to be served.
"Time to dig in!" Filo said as she and Fitoria immediately began feasting on their meal. However, not all were able to enjoy themselves…
"Ugh… How am I supposed to eat like this?" Tyler asked. Why did he say such a thing? It may have something to do with the fact that everyone was being watched by the flock of Filolials that were on Fitoria's beck and call. Some of them even squawked at the party out of hunger.
"I feel a little guilty about eating this in front of them." Chelsea stated, nervous with how the Filolials looked at her with 'puppy-dog' eyes and adorable squawking.
"Want me to scare them off? 'Cause I got this sick prank that I–" Gengar volunteered.
"No, don't do that." Tyler told one of his Pokémon.
"Aw, you're no fun."
"Just ignore them…" Naofumi said as he kept eating.
"Isn't it yummy?" Filo asked Fitoria, who was sitting next to her.
"It's delicious." She answered.
"They could almost be sisters." Melty commented.
"I hear you. I can see the resemblance." Chelsea agreed.
"I know. Both of them can be sloppy eaters." Naofumi added.
"Ugh… Naofumi? What are we gonna do with them?" Tyler asked his leader as he pointed his finger to the Filolials who got up to the Shield Hero's face.
"If I were you, I should probably cook for them." Hydreigon suggested as he and Chelsea's Altaria were getting stared at.
"Yeah…" Altaria added.
"How strange… That creature is a bird like a Filolial, and yet it has the power of Dragons." Fitoria muttered while she continued feasting on the stew.
"Well… Altaria's an odd case despite not looking like a Dragon type Pokémon." Chelsea told her.
With Naofumi, he simply sighed in defeat as he stood up from his seat.
"Alright, fine! I'll make some for you too!" The Shield Hero stated. "Bring me ingredients and the biggest pots you got!" He then turned towards Chelsea. "Hey, Chelsea! You're helping me out on this one!"
"What, really!?" Chelsea exclaimed before she was dragged into helping her leader making more servings for the Filolial flock.
It was tough but both Naofumi and Chelsea were able to make another serving of stew enough for the Filolials in the area. The former Team Flare admin even went as far as forcing Tyler and Kurisu to help her out with the cooking. It took four pots for them to make the stew, which was just enough. The Filolials immediately fell asleep after having their fill. The Pokémon Trainers returned their Pokémon back into their Poké Balls once they were done eating. With the exception of Naofumi, Tyler, Kurisu, and Chelsea, everyone also had gone to sleep.
"It's all over…" Chelsea muttered as she sat down.
"I'll say." Tyler agreed, patting his friend in the back.
"Why do they have the same appetite as Filo is something I could never understand…" Kurisu added.
"How the heck did we end up feeding the entire Kentucky Fried farm?" Naofumi wondered while wiping the sweat away from his forehead. He heard footsteps behind him and saw that Fitoria was awake. "What's up? Don't tell me you want seconds?"
"No, thanks. I'm full." Fitoria replied. "But I would like to have our talk now." She then turned towards Tyler, Kurisu, and Chelsea. "And I wish to talk with you three as well."
"Us? Why?" Kurisu asked as the four of them followed Fitoria, who went for a stroll around the ruins.
"For one thing, I sensed that you three came from very different worlds compared to the Cardinal Heroes." Fitoria said. "Worlds of which these 'Pokémon' came from."
"Wait. You mean you have encountered Pokémon before?" Kurisu asked.
"Correct. They are easy to distinguish compared to other creatures but…" Fitoria began. "It's best that you three return to your respective worlds."
"Wha…?" Tyler mouthed.
"Come again?" Chelsea added.
"Care to explain?" Kurisu demanded, curious to see Fitoria's logic.
"For unknown reasons, unfamiliar creatures which you called 'Pokemon' have begun appearing in this world." Fitoria explained. "However, their existence was not meant to be here. And you three, despite not being Cardinal Heroes, were forced to cross over to this world. Therefore, I don't believe you were obliged to fight the Waves like the Four Cardinal Heroes."
"Even if you say it like that…" Tyler began before he became serious. "Like hell I'm gonna let this world be wrecked by these Waves!"
"He's right. Even if we were dragged into this, we're gonna see this to the end." Chelsea added. "Also, you seem to forget that I came from the same world as Tyler. If he's staying, then I am too!"
"Plus, we don't really know if we can go back to our worlds." Kurisu said. "Even if we can, there's no way we can drop everything just because you told us to."
The Filolial Queen was speechless at their declaration. The three otherworldly humans in front of her have no business sticking their nose into this world's business. Despite that, they were willing to stay on their own free will.
"... If that is what you wish, then so be it." Fitoria said as she turned towards Naofumi. "Now, then. I would like to find out as to why that large Dragon is fighting you and your party?"
"Wait a second. You mean you saved us not because you knew we're in trouble?" Naofumi asked.
"I was there because I was told that a new candidate for the next Queen had been found." Fitoria answered, walking along a ruined fence.
"Candidate for Queen?" Kurisu repeated. "You mean Filo?"
"Yes."
"Hey, can I ask you something?" Naofumi asked.
"Go ahead."
"Why is it that Filo's growing so much differently and so much bigger than almost any other Filolials?" The Shield Hero asked.
"She's like me." Fitoria replied before she stopped moving. "A Hero is raising her."
Naofumi gasped in surprise as being a Hero meant something to a Filolial.
"Yeah, that one tracks." Tyler muttered, having remembered how Filo became different after winning the race in Lute Village.
"So, tell me… Why was that monster released from its seal?" It was Fitoria's turn
"Well, it's like this…"
Naofumi proceeded to tell the Filolial Queen the events that eventually led to them fighting the Tyrant Dragon Rex. He also explained his "beef" with the other three Legendary Heroes. Which Fitoria replied with a sigh angrily.
"What's wrong?" Naofumi asked her.
"I'm appalled." Fitoria answered. "You Cardinal Heroes should all be ashamed, squabbling at each other when the next Wave is approaching."
"Give me a break. They started it." Naofumi defended himself.
"The Shield Hero has always been shunned by the human supremacist countries." The Filolial Queen stated.
"Okay, then you should understand!" Naofumi argued. "That's the whole reason we've tried to cross the border–"
"Leaving won't solve anything." Fitoria interrupted him. "Work it out." She then turned towards Naofumi. "The humans and demihumans may hate each other, but the Heroes mustn't fight amongst themselves."
She basically told Naofumi to just suck it up and he and his three party members kept following Fitoria. Eventually, they sat on the edge of the roof of a ruined building. Fitoria was stacking rocks on top of each other.
"Don't you know about the Hourglass?" She asked. "All four of you certainly should."
"If you're talking about the Dragon Hourglass, yeah. We all knew." Naofumi said. "Tyler, Kurisu, and Chelsea also knew too."
"Then why aren't you fighting the Waves of Catastrophe across the world?" Fitoria asked, shocking everyone.
"Hold up! You're sayin' that the Waves also happened in other places, not just Melromarc?" Tyler asked.
"Yes, they happened everywhere." Fitoria replied. "The Four Heroes are meant to go to one country each time there's a Wave."
"But nobody told me about that…" Naofumi retorted, having heard of this for the first time.
"I bet the King knew, but decided to withhold information out of spite…" Chelsea theorized.
"That sounds like what he would do…" Kurisu added.
"I've been traveling the world in your stead whenever I'm asked." Fitoria continued. "But you four aren't helping anywhere else."
"Hell, I just found out other countries have their own Hourglasses."
"Honestly, what happens to the humans doesn't matter to me." The Filolial Queen confessed. "I'm only fighting because the Hero who raised me asked me to do so."
"He asked? Or told?" Naofumi wondered.
"My job is to protect the world and keep its people safe." She continued.
'She doesn't care about humans, but she wants to save them anyway?' Kurisu pondered.
"But I can't do that all by myself." Fitoria admitted. "I need the Heroes to help me."
"Honestly, you seemed a lot more capable than any of us." Naofumi said.
"That may be true, for now…" The white haired girl replied. "But eventually, I won't be enough." She said as the stacks of rocks next to her fell apart.
"So, that's why you need Naofumi and those other losers to help you." Chelsea said.
"Exactly." Fitoria confirmed.
(Back in the capital)
Ren, Itsuki, as well as their party snuck into a building that belonged to the Church of the Three Heroes.
"Is this the place?" Ren asked Itsuki.
"Yeah, I think so." His fellow Cardinal Hero confirmed as he and Ren had the mage of their party to unlock a door that was in front of them.
"I can't believe I'm saying this, but Naofumi turns out to be right on the money about the Church of the Three Heroes hiding something." Itsuki remarked.
"Yeah, hard to believe he managed to figure that out." The Sword Hero then turned towards one of his party members. "Xulan, you and the others should stay here and guard the door."
"You too, Mald." Itsuki then turned towards his party member. "You and the others should keep watch and see if there's anyone else around here."
"Of course, Sir Ren." Xulan said.
"Hmph! Just leave it to me, Sir Itsuki." The man named Mald added.
Ren and Itsuki then went through the secret passage with the mage in their party to illuminate the tunnel with their magic. Two Heroes and their companion entered what appeared to be a library of sorts.
"It's some kind of archive. Let's take a look around." Itsuki said as he and Ren immediately went to investigate the place, checking the books there to see if they can find something that would entail the Church's hidden agenda.
As the two parties standing guard the hidden passage, a certain treacherous princess was eyeing them back.
"Mind your own business…!" Malty muttered, annoyed that two Legendary Heroes were sniffing around a place where they should not be.
(With Naofumi and co.)
"You want me to make up with those guys!?" Naofumi said, surprised by Fitoria's suggestion.
"The Cardinal Heroes are supposed to work together!" Fitoria stated. "That is absolutely crucial to this world's protection."
"Not happening." Naofumi refused. "The whole country, besides those three, wants to get rid of me!"
"Don't worry, I'm aware of what's happening." She continued. "Regardless, the Heroes must stop fighting each other."
"You're awfully obsessed with the whole 'unity' between the Legendary Heroes…" Chelsea pointed it out. "Must be really important if you keep telling Naofumi to suck it up and make up with those deadbeats."
"Because it is completely unacceptable for them to be even fighting amongst themselves."
"Well, it's a lost cause because they don't want to play nice with me. Especially that love-blind pervert Motoyasu, who kept believing everything he was told by that witch of a girlfriend of his at face value." Naofumi refused stubbornly.
"Are you certain?"
"Yeah… Who needs those guys honestly? I still have my party and Pokemon with me." The Shield Hero continued.
"I see. You've made up your mind then." Fitoria stated as the winds suddenly got stronger as everyone tensed up by the sudden hostility pouring out of the Filolial Queen. "It's been awhile, several lifetimes, in fact. I can hardly remember anything. But I still remember what this means I have to do…" She stood up and glared at Naofumi and the otherworldly Pokemon Trainers. "If the Heroes are busy fighting each other instead of fighting the Waves of Catastrophe, then you leave me no choice! I must kill all four of you!"
"What…?" Tyler muttered as he and the others were shocked by the declaration.
(In the morning)
Everyone, including the Filolials that were part of Fitoria's flock, woke up with Naofumi, Tyler, Kurisu, and Chelsea continuing to cook not for themselves but also for the wild Filolials. While tasting the food, Naofumi still thought back to Fitoria's declaration of killing the Four Legendary Heroes all because they cannot put their internal squabbling aside.
"If the Heroes are fighting each other instead of fighting the Waves of Catastrophe, then you'll leave me no choice! I must kill all four of you!"
"Kill all the Cardinal Heroes, huh?" Naofumi repeated.
"Master Naofumi?" He turned to see Raphtalia, who was calling out to him.
"Huh? Oh, nothing. Don't worry about it." Her master assured her.
And with that, Naofumi and the four others who were helping him cook breakfast, finished cooking the food and immediately fed the Filolials with it before having breakfast themselves.
"I don't know about you, Mel, but it looks like the Filolials like you." Chelsea complimented her.
"Well, Princess Melty always exudes a charm of sorts that warms up the Filolials quickly." Merleo said put a spoonful of stew into his mouth.
"I wouldn't say it like that–Huh?" Melty said before she noticed Fitoria standing before the party, who were having breakfast.
Without saying anything, Fitoria put her hand out in front of Melty's face.
"Liberation Wind Prison!" As she chanted that, her hand glowed as the sudden gust of wind caused everyone to shield their faces.
Then, they saw Melty being imprisoned inside a swirling blue wind barrier.
"Melty!" Naofumi said as he and the others were surprised by the turn of events.
"What's happening to me!?" Melty exclaimed as he went touch the winds surrounding her, only to slightly cut her finger.
"What the hell, Fitoria!?" Tyler exclaimed.
"Yeah! She's my friend, what are you doing to her?" Filo asked.
"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I have to claim you as my hostage." Fitoria answered.
"Your hostage?" Naofumi repeated. "WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS!?"
"I need your promise, Shield Hero." The Filolial Queen said. "Promise me that you'll reconcile with the others."
"You're a meanie! You let Mel go!" Filo demanded.
'"What if I don't?" Naofumi asked. "Are you threatening to hurt the Princess?" He continued. "I told you, that's not gonna happen!"
"Nevertheless, I must ask you to reconsider!" Fitoria insisted.
"Why are you so obsessed with making us work together anyway?" The Shield Hero questioned.
"Because I made a promise of my own a long time ago, to the Hero who raised me." Fitoria stated. "And because, if this world is going to survive, the Cardinal Heroes must work together to fight off the Waves! I beg you!"
"No matter how many times you ask, I'm not gonna make nice with those idiots!" Naofumi refused vehemently.
"Then there's no choice." Fitoria began as her bangs shadowed her eyes. "If you won't work together, new Heroes will be summoned. Which means, all four of the Heroes that we have now…" She then looked at Naofumi with a glare. "Must be removed!"
Everyone was shocked at Fitoria's declaration.
"Kurisu, is she serious?" Chelsea asked her friend.
"Yeah… No doubt about it." Kurisu replied, tensing up on how serious Fitoria is carrying the threat. "She's that serious about killing Naofumi and the other Legendary Heroes if they don't make up."
"You'll kill all of us because we don't like each other!?" Naofumi asked.
"That's what best for the world." Fitoria replied coldly.
Naofumi's mind came back to how the Tyrant Dragon Rex was easily killed by her.
'Yeah, she won't have any trouble pulling it off either…' Naofumi thought.
"But if you all reconcile, I won't have to."
The Shield Hero gritted her teeth as the person standing before him still went on and on about Naofumi working with his fellow Cardinal Heroes.
"I understand…" He said before he glared back. "But I still can't do it! And taking Melty hostage doesn't change anything!" He continued. "If you wanna kill me, knock yourself out! Bring it!" He then pulled his shield up to defend himself.
"Naofumi/Master Naofumi!" Both Melty and Raphtalia said in unison.
"But I promise I'm not going down without a fight!" Naofumi declared as he activated his Rage Shield powers.
"No need." Fitoria then put her hand out as it was glowing, canceling the Rage Shield once more.
"Not again!" Naofumi remarked.
"I understand how you feel, Shield Hero." The Filolial Queen began.
"You what?"
"I'll give you a chance." She said. "If you can prove to me that you and your party can defeat the Waves of Catastrophe without assistance from the other Heroes, I'll let you live."
"How do we do that?" Raphtalia wondered.
"That's generous of you!" Naofumi retorted sarcastically. "So, what? You want us to fight you right here?"
"Actually, I'm already quite familiar with your capabilities, Shield Hero." Fitoria said as she pointed her finger at Filo. "Filo must fight me…" She then pointed her finger to Tyler. "And you. Bring out that Three-Headed Dragon of yours. Now"
"Me? Okay…" Tyler said as he pulled out Hydreigon's Poké Ball. "Come on out, Hydreigon!" He threw the Poké Ball into the air as the aforementioned Pokémon appeared on the scene.
"Tyler, what's going on?" Hydreigon asked his partner.
"In addition to Filo, this one will also be fighting against me." Fitoria declared.
"Wait, what!?" Everyone, including Hydreigon, exclaimed in unison.
"Why me!? And why do I have to fight with that stinky Dragon!?" Filo asked.
"If you can show me that you are, in fact, strong enough, I will release Melty." Fitoria stated. "As for why I chose this Dragon to fight alongside you was because I'm curious to see if he can prove to me that Pokémon are strong enough to fight the Waves alongside you."
"I guess that makes sense…" Hydreigon stated.
"And I also won't do anything to harm the Heroes for the time being either." She continued. "They'll live for now."
"I don't really get everything you're saying but…" Filo began. "But if I beat you, Master won't be killed and you'll let Mel go too, right?"
"Wait, hang on a sec–"
"Then you got yourself a duel!" The young Filolial Queen declared.
"I'm gonna fight you and that Dragon in my human form, Filo." The older Filolial Queen said. "I asked that you maintain yours until it's over as well."
"No problem!" Filo said as she put on her power gauntlets.
"Filo, I told you to wait!" Naofumi warned her but it was too late.
Fitoria then descended to the ground. "Let's begin."
Everyone quickly regained their composure as Hydreigon flew to Filo's side, having been forced to fight alongside her. It was an open field that was surrounded by ruins in which Fitoria immediately cast a red dome above their heads and over the battlefield they currently stand on.
"Shit, this feels real now." Tyler muttered before his eyes were on Hydreigon. "Don't hold anything back, buddy! Give it all you've got."
"I hear you, man. Just because she's small doesn't mean she's weak. And I'm gonna be ready for her!" Hydreigon said, raring to go.
"I'm coming for you!" Filo declared.
"Go right ahead." Fitoria dared as one of her opponents made her first move, jumping high up in the air before coming at her with a diving kick. "Too slow." She said before going slightly left, dodging the attack.
"Now, it's our turn! Hydreigon, use Dragon Pulse!" Tyler commanded.
"On it! Hraah!" Hydreigon complied as he unleashed the move at Fitoria.
"Too predictable." Fitoria said as she evaded the move she appeared behind the Brutal Pokémon.
"Whoa! You're fast–" He did not get to finish as he was grabbed and thrown at Filo, causing the two to collide one another.
"Filo/Hydreigon!" Both Melty, who was imprisoned, and Tyler shouted in unison as the two fell to the ground.
"Damn… I kinda figured she's this tough!" Hydreigon muttered as he flew up. "But I'm not done yet!"
Filo was also getting up from the ground.
'This doesn't make sense…' Naofumi thought. "I get why Fitoria wants to challenge Hydreigon, a Pokémon, to fight her. Seeing as how she had doubts of a creature she knew nothing about fighting the Waves. Much less a Dragon-like creature. But why does she want to fight Filo, instead of Raphtalia? And also, why did she want to fight each other in human form?' He pondered. 'Damn it! Filo! YOU CAN"T KEEP JUST CHARGING IN LIKE THAT! YOU GOTTA USE YOUR HEAD!"
"I'll try, Master…" Filo replied.
"And try regenerating your clothes as soon as possible!" He ordered. "Put some mana into it so it could increase your Defense! Also, try cooperating with Tyler's Hydreigon for once!"
While Filo was giving some thoughts about her master's advice, she also took the time to accept the fact that she must team-up with Hydreigon in order to win.
"Whatever you say!" Filo then turned towards Hydreigon. "Hey, you! Think you can keep up?"
"Who the hell are you talking to?" Hydreigon said as he smirked. "It's the other way around, Filo. Can YOU keep up with me?"
Filo nodded as she raised her hand. "As source of thy power, I order thee! Decipher the laws of nature and use a giant whirlwind to blow my target away!" She chanted as green magic circles appeared in her arms and on the ground below her before she brought her hands down. "Go, Zweit Tornado!" She shouted two twisters of strong winds launched from her hands were aiming towards Fitoria.
"Help Filo out with Tri Attack!" Tyler shouted.
"Got it!" Hydreigon said as he fired a beam of fire, electricity, and ice from each of his heads at Fitoria.
"I'm afraid that won't be enough to win this fight. Anti Zweit Tornado!" Fitoria then casted a spell to cancel Filo's spell before dodging Hydreigon's Tri Attack.
"Watch out! She's using jamming magic!" Melty warned.
When Filo was stunned, Fitoria seized the opportunity to get up to her face. "You're wide open!" She said before she used a spell to send Filo flying into a piece of the ruin's rubble.
"Filo!" Hydreigon said before Fitoria did the same thing to him.
"As a Dragon, I thought you might be more ferocious in battle." Fitoria commented.
Both combatants gritted their teeth as they were slammed backwards by their opponent, feeling quite a pain from their opponent's last attack. In Filo's case, more of her clothes were torn apart.
"It looks like Filo didn't get the chance to regenerate her clothes…" Chelsea stated.
"My. It seems Fitoria is quite unforgiving in this battle…" Merleo added.
Kurisu then realized someone was missing. "Wait. Where's Naofumi?" She looked around and saw that Naofumi somehow sneaked past to get to Melty. "What's he planning?"
"Hey, Melty." Naofumi called out to Fitoria's hostage. "If this keeps up, Filo and Hydreigon are in trouble." He said as he turned towards her. "I'm gonna use my shield to break you out of this cage instead!"
Without looking at Naofumi, Fitoria casted three, fast-moving energy bullets at the Shield Hero.
"Crap!" Naofumi saw the attack and he immediately put up his shield to block it. However, he was overwhelmed by the attack and was sent crashing to a wall behind him.
"Naofumi/Master Naofumi!" Both Melty and Filo shouted in unison.
Despite his impressive Defense stat, Naofumi still felt the full brunt of the attack as he coughed a few drops of blood. 'The Shield's Defense is like nothing to her!'
"Master, you're hurt!" Filo said, unintentionally taking her eyes off of her opponent.
"Eyes on your opponent." Fitoria reprimanded before she slapped Filo away before she did the same thing to Hydreigon, causing him to stumble backwards before using his wings to keep him from falling to the ground.
"That attack was necessary to prevent him from cheating." Fitoria stated. "He deserved it."
'With a power that can overwhelm Naofumi's Defense…' Tyler thought. 'Yeah, this chick means business. I can't imagine what would happen if I ended up doing that.'
"Do you know why he attempted that?" Fitoria questioned Filo and Hydreigon. "Because you and that Dragon are weak."
Filo tried her best to stand her ground as she glared at her opponent.
"Can you tell me what you two are fighting for?" Fitoria asked them.
"I'm fighting for my Trainer and my friends, plain and simple…" Hydreigon replied.
"I would've thought… It was obvious!" Filo then charged towards her opponent. "I'm fighting for my master!"
"Wait, Filo! Don't charge recklessly!" Hydreigon warned before he saw his opponent sidestepped to the side to avoid the punch.
"You couldn't beat the Dragon last night and you can't beat me now, even with that Three-Headed Dragon fighting alongside you." The older Filolial Queen said. "At least he is sensible enough to not attack blindly, unlike you. How do you expect to be of any use to the Shield Hero?"
"Urgh! I won't lose to you!" Filo retorted. "I'll become strong for Master and I'll beat you!"
"Not with willpower as shallow as yours!" She countered before she swatted Filo away, causing to fall on the ground once more.
Fitoria then casted another spell to attack Filo and then Hydreigon once more.
Naofumi winced at his wounds as he had Raphtalia, Kurisu, Chelsea, and Merleo at his side.
"Oh, Master Naofumi! Are you alright?" Raphtalia asked him.
"Yeah… I think I'm okay." Naofumi answered.
"Still, I didn't think it was possible for her to bypass your shield and hurt you…" Kurisu commented.
"As expected of a Filolial raised by a Hero a hundred years ago…" Merleo added.
"I'm not letting Master get hurt ever again!" Filo began as she managed to endure Fitoria's onslaught along with Hydreigon. "I'm… I'm gonna get much stronger than I've ever been before!"
"When you're up against a Dragon type Pokémon… You can bet that we're not going down easy!" Hydreigon shouted. "I hope you're ready for this, but this is where I get serious!"
"Will you though?" Fitoria said before she took a deep breath, causing blue particles to appear in the air and said particles began to be absorbed by her.
"Okay, what is Fitoria doing now?" Chelsea asked.
"My word…" Merleo muttered aloud. "She's absorbing the mana particles in the air! I did not think such a feat could even be possible…!"
"Filo!" Filo turned around and saw that her master was calling out to her.
"Master…"
"Stop worrying about me! I'll be fine, okay?" Naofumi told her. "Just stay calm and watch her attacks! You can do this! I know it!"
Hearing those made Fitoria remembered the words of her former master.
"I know that you can do this."
To hear those words once more made the older Filolial Queen feeling a little nostalgic.
"Yeah!" Filo complied as a green magic circle started forming on the ground beneath her a blue transparent bubble-like barrier enveloped her.
"You're too slow." Fitoria said.
"Maybe, but I'll still beat you!" Filo declared.
"Hydreigon! Show her what a Pokémon can do!" Tyler cheered.
"I heard you loud and clear, partner! Let's show her up!" Hydreigon said as a red glow traveled up the red patterns on his tail and chest, up to his head crests, and he created a white ball of energy inside each of its mouths.
"Wait, is that…" Kurisu mouthed, having seen the move before.
Filo then jumped high into the air before lunging towards Fitoria with a glowing green sphere on each of her fists. "SPIRAL STRIKE!"
Fitoria immediately put up a barrier to block the attack. Filo's attack was so strong that it tore the gauntlet she was wearing and was replaced by an orange claws of energy, which hit the barrier.
"Just try…" Hydreigon zoomed up to Fitoria with white orbs still in each of his mouths. "And stop us! Hraah!" He then fired a white and light blue beam from each of them at Fitoria's barrier at point-blank.
Despite their attacks being blocked, Filo and Hydreigon refused to give up. Their tenacity and the combined power of their attacks were rewarded as they began to pierce the barrier.
"HRAAAAAAH!" With one final shout, Filo and Hydreigon successfully shattered Fitoria's barrier.
Fitoria widened her eyes in shock as Filo flew past her and crashed on the ground, scratching her cheeks. She then saw the incoming white and light blue beams coming at her.
"What power…" She muttered before she got hit by Hydreigon's move, causing to be sent tumbling backwards. But she managed to stand her ground, albeit barely.
"That was incredible…" Raphtalia mouthed. "Wow! I can't believe both Filo and Hydreigon are actually working together!"
"Yeah…" Naofumi smiled.
"Whoa… That might've been a new move." Tyler muttered. "But what was that?"
Despite how bad of a state she was right now, Filo mustered all of her strength to get up but she was on her knees..
"I… won't lose…!" Filo declared. "I won't…"
Fitoria looked down at her opponent who was barely in the state to continue fighting.
"I'll grow stronger… I have to…" She continued. "For Master… I have to be stronger…!" Filo barely stood up and proceeded to walk towards her opponent. "To protect Mel… Raphtalia, and Pokémon… I have to be stronger! To protect… everyone!" Despite that, she threw a weak punch which failed to deal damage to Fitoria.
"... Good." Fitoria replied.
"But–Okay!" Filo then fell on her knees, having exhausted all of her stamina in the fight. "I won't lose…ever again!"
"Shit, don't tell me there's more to this?" The older Filolial Queen turned around to see Hydreigon, who was trying his best to keep himself airborne. Though compared to Filo, he still has some fight left in him, as a result of his experience of being in many tough battles. "If it is, then I'm willing to fight all day if that's what you want!"
"No, that's enough now, Filo… Hydreigon…" Fitoria told them as the red dome above them disappeared. "I believe you two have beaten me."
"Huh?" Both Filo and Hydreigon muttered in unison as the fight was over.
"And you've earned Melty's freedom." Fitoria gave them a smile. "You're strong enough after all. I also now fully acknowledge the strength of Pokémon."
"Oh, Filo!" Filo turned around and saw that her best friend was free from her imprisonment and was running up to hug her.
"That was intense, I gotta admit! But you managed to hold off until the end." Hydreigon turned around and saw his Trainer walking up to him.
"Well, it wasn't easy." The Brutal Pokémon replied.
"You did good too, Filo." Filo turned around to see her master, who was being carried by the shoulder by Raphtalia.
"Oh, Master! Did you see it? I won…!" Filo told her master happily.
"Sure did. You were amazing, Filo." Naofumi replied, causing his Filolial slave to let out a short laughter of happiness.
After that, everyone gathered at another spot of the ruins as they watched both Filo and then Hydreigon getting healed by Fitoria
"You know, I'm surprised that you're willing to heal a Dragon like me." Hydreigon remarked as he was done getting healed.
"Well, despite that being one, I considered you and that blue bird, who certainly does not look like a Dragon at all, to be the exception of the rule." Fitoria said.
"Oh, good. I'm glad you're more mature about it then Filo."
"Hey! I can be mature and nice too, you know!" Filo told him.
"Oh, really? When was the last time you've ever been nice to me? You mention it one time and I'll gladly take back what I said." Hydreigon asked with a playful smirk.
"Well, I… Uh…" Filo tried to remember it but she could not find any.
"See? You really should take a page out of Fitoria's book. Being nice to everyone actually goes a long way and being a brat is not."
"A brat!? You're a big meanie!" Filo retorted.
"You see? THAT is what a brat would say…"
Filo glared and was puffing her cheeks at Hydreigon while the latter looked at the former much more calmly.
"Nevertheless, I'm glad you two passed my trial." Fitoria told them, causing the two to turn their attention to her. Most of everyone was surprised by that reveal.
"Hold up. That was actually a test?" Tyler asked.
"You two seriously can't tell? I kinda figured it was the case." Kurisu told them. "And Naofumi here only got it right after he was attacked by Fitoria."
"Yeah, she caught me off guard, I admit…" Naofumi commented.
"But it was a serious test." Fitoria corrected. "Because if you two hadn't passed, you would've died. And the Shield Hero would've died as well." The comment surprised everyone.
"And of course, she was actually being serious about her threat too…" Kurisu muttered aloud.
Then, a sparkling tiara with several jewels as decorations, especially a big red gem in the center, formed on Fitoria's right hand.
"Oooh! What's that?" Filo asked, feeling awestruck by the item that appeared in the older Filolial Queen's hand.
"Your reward. To honor you for overcoming my trial." Fitoria answered. "Please lower your head."
Filo walked a step towards Fitoria before she kneeled down, allowing the latter to place the crown on top of the former's head.
"Guaah!" Fitoria's flock of Filolials squawked happily to celebrate the literal crowning moment they have just witnessed.
"Filo. I'm delighted to appoint you as my successor." Fitoria declared as Filo stood up.
"Successor?" The newly crowned Filolial Queen repeated.
"Are you saying that Filo's going to be the next Queen of the Filolials?" Naofumi asked, realizing that the trial was also to determine whether or not Filo had what it takes to take the mantle of Queen.
"Congratulations, Filo!" Melty congratulated her best friend.
"Huh!?" Filo mouthed before her tiara dissolved into tiny rainbow particles. Then, a strand of cow lick hair grew on top of Filo's head." Huh? Whuh?"
"I guess that's the symbol of Filolial royalty?" Chelsea said.
"Their 'crown' is a cow lick?" Naofumi said with a disbelief look on his face.
"Aw~! It's adorable!" Melty commented as Filo went to touch and was immediately weirded out.
"Ahh! Get this weird thing off of my head! Ah!" Filo said as she pulled the cow lick out. Her moment of bliss was shortlived as the cow lick grew back.
"Look! It grew back!"
"WHUHUHUHY!?"
"And it always will. So, I'd get used to it if I were you." Fitoria explained. "And as you grow older and gain strength, you'll have more of them."
"Does that mean I'm gonna look like you?" Filo asked before she noticed Hydreigon barely containing his laughter. "Hey! It's not even funny, you big meanie!"
"Come on, you have to admit. Seeing you with a Miltank lick is pretty funny in and of itself!" Hydreigon said before he bursted out of laughter.
"Hmm…" Filo puffed her cheeks as she was being made fun at.
"Don't take it the wrong way, Filo. He means it as a compliment." Tyler assured his fellow party member.
"It doesn't sound like it."
Naofumi proceeded to look into the "cow lick" that Filo has. He was surprised with how this lone strand of hair provided permanent boosts to all of her stats.
'Her stats have increased! Does that cow lick give her bonuses to all of her base numbers?' Naofumi pondered. 'She had a level cap, so this couldn't have happened in a better time!'
"Hydreigon…" Fitoria called out the aforementioned Pokémon, who turned towards her. "You showed me in that battle that Pokémon are indeed capable of keeping up to the levels of the Cardinal Heroes when fighting the Waves of Catastrophe." She said before reaching out towards something in her dress. "It's not much of a reward compared to Filo's, but…" Fitoria then pulled out what appeared to be a pair of rounded glasses with clear white lenses.
Kurisu instantly recognized the item of which Fitoria had. "That's a pair of Wise Glasses!"
"A pair of Wise Glasses? That sounds like a silly name a kid would come up with." Naofumi repeated. "Is it an item from your world?"
"Yeah, it is! It's an item that gives the holder a boost in their Special Attack moves!" The former police intern explained before she turned towards Fitoria. "How did you find it?"
"I found it when I was traveling the world. I have no clue what this item does but it looked pretty so I picked it up." Fitoria said. "You can have it."
"Ah, okay. Thanks." Hydreigon said as he grabbed ahold of the item.
"Hold on. What if that thing's a fake?" Naofumi said. "For all we know, it could be just a normal pair of glasses."
"Good point." Tyler agreed. "Why don't we test it out to see if it's real or not."
"That's a good idea, Tyler. I'm game!" Hydreigon said as his eyes immediately fixated on one of the pieces of the rubble. "But which move should I use is the question?"
"Try using Flash Cannon." Kurisu suggested, surprising Tyler and his partner.
"Why?" Tyler asked.
"Remember that move that Hydreigon used to break Fitoria's barrier? Apparently, that move was Flash Cannon, which was also something that Hydreigon recently learned."
"Whoa, really?" Tyler said before he smirked. "In that case, use Flash Cannon!"
"Alright! Leave it to me!" Hydreigon said as he charged up the move once more before firing a white and light blue beam from each of his three heads at the rubble, causing it to explode into tiny little pieces when it hit.
"Whoa… Has Hydreigon been that strong…?" Raphtalia wondered as she felt the sheer power of the move.
"Not that I know of…" Tyler said. "I guess that means that pair of Wise Glasses is the real deal."
"Yeah, what a way to prove it…" Naofumi added.
Tyler then checked out the current moveset of his partner.
"Oh, wow! Hydreigon really did learn Flash Cannon, but it's at the expense of Tri Attack." He stated.
"I also have one more gift for the three of you." Fitoria told Naofumi, Tyler, and Chelsea.
"No, thanks. I don't want a cow lick." Naofumi said.
"What's a cow lick?" She asked her master, having never heard of that term before.
"No, it's something much better." Fitoria clarified. "First, I'll heal you up." She then put her hand out near Naofumi before casting her own Heal. It not only healed Naofumi, but also restored his armor, which was cracked, back to its original, pristine state.
"Whoa! I feel a lot better now!" Naofumi remarked.
"I'm not done. Let me see your weapons." Fitoria told them as the three held out their respective weapons towards Fitoria, who pulled all three of her cow licks from her head before holding each one above the gems on their weapons.
The gem of all three weapons glowed as they absorbed Fitoria's cow licks. Then, the weapon tree for Naofumi, Tyler, and Chelsea appeared before the weapon wielders and noticed that it unlocked multiple weapons that were listed under the "Filolial Series" category.
"Forced unlock, huh?" Naofumi muttered. "But from the looks of it, our level isn't high enough to fully use them."
"Still, this is gonna come in handy down the line, so thanks." Tyler said on behalf of Naofumi and the others.
"You're quite welcome." Fitoria said before she turned towards Naofumi. "Now if you don't mind, there's something I like to discuss with you privately."
"Well, that doesn't sound ominous." The Shield Hero remarked.
"Excuse me…" Everyone turned to see Melty, who was calling out to Fitoria. "When you said you were testing Filo, was that the reason you took me hostage and stopped Naofumi from rescuing me?"
" I feel terrible for doing that to you." Fitoria admitted. "Is there anything at all that you desire?"
"Well, I guess…" Melty began as she was fidgeting. "Maybe… Can I…?"
"This is amazing~!" Melty commented as she rode on top of Fitoria's head. "It's all I've ever wanted!"
What was the request Melty wanted from Fitoria… It was simple, the former wanted to go for a joyride riding on top of the latter's head when she was in Filolial Queen form.
"She could've asked for anything and she wanted a ride?" Naofumi stated, flabbergasted at Melty's request.
"Well… Princess Melty is still a child first and foremost." Merleo told him.
"Ugh… I hope I'll get to be gigantic like that." Filo commented, feeling jealous seeing her best friend had the time of her life with someone else.
Naofumi simply smirked as he glanced at Filo's cow lick.
"I wonder how many cow licks you'll have on your head when that happens?" He teased her.
"NOOOHOHOHO!" Filo shouted, with the thought of having so many cow licks weirded her out.
Everyone laughed at Filo's anguish. But then…
"Oh, that's right!" Tyler shouted suddenly, alerting everyone.
"What is it?" Chelsea asked.
"Hey, Naofumi. While we wait for Melty…" The delinquent-like Trainer began. "Why don't we try making some TMs?"
"Oh, that's right! I forgot about that." Naofumi said as he opened up his TM Creation skill. A notification then appeared in front of his face.
Please present a piece of Pokémon in front of the shield's gem.
"A piece of Pokémon, huh?" Naofumi repeated. 'Right. Kurisu did say that those TMs are made from Pokemon…'
"So, what TM should we make first?" Tyler asked.
"Actually, I know just the thing." Kurisu proposed. "Since Hydreigon's the MVP today, why not make Scale Shot?"
"Scale Shot? I never heard've that move before?"
"Me neither." Chelsea added. "What is that move anyway?"
"It's a physical Dragon type move. A little weak but it allows the user to attack multiple times like Pin Missile." Kurisu explained. "The move increases the user's Speed, but at the expense of its Defense."
"So, the move sacrifices the user's Defense for Speed, huh?" Tyler remarked. "You know what? Let's make a TM for it but I'm not gonna use it now. I'll be saving that for later when I actually need it."
"That's actually a good call." Naofumi said, agreeing with Tyler. "But… what materials should I get from?"
"Let's see…" Kurisu pulled out her Poryphone and then looked up in the Pokédex app. "Out of all the Pokémon we have, it looks like Hydreigon and Arbok can learn this move."
Naofumi then turned towards both Tyler and Chelsea.
"Well, Tyler. Chelsea. Bring them out." He said.
"I heard you/I'm on it." Both Tyler and Chelsea said at the same time as they summoned the designated Pokemon each.
"Hey, Tyler. What do you need?" Hydreigon asked.
"Need sssssssomething, Misssss Chelsssssea?" Arbok added.
"Hey, I know if this sounded a little weird, but could you give me a piece of you?" Naofumi asked. "I wanted to try something."
"If it's gonna help us in the long run, sure." Hydreigon said.
"If it'ssssss for Misssss Chelsssssea's benefitsssss, I sssshall gladly cooperate." Arbok added.
Tyler proceeded to pluck a single strand of fur from Hydreigon while Chelsea plucked a single scale out of Arbok.
"Here." The delinquent-like Trainer stated as he and Chelsea gave the materials to their leader.
"Thanks." Naofumi said as he put the materials in front of the gem of his shield, causing it to glow and absorb the materials.
The gem went blinking for five seconds before it glowed brighter as a lavender colored disk manifested above the shield.
You have successfully created:
TM for "Scale Shot"!
"Okay, it's done." Naofumi said as he picked up the disk.
"Now. let me see…" Kurisu went over to Naofumi's side to inspect the newly created item. Fortunately, she could tell the legitimacy of the item. "Yup. It's a 100% real TM for Scale Shot. It said so right here."
Chelsea went over and was able to read it well. "Yeah, you're right. There's really a TM for that move except somehow we're all able to read it, which was saying something considering me and Kurisu coming from two different worlds."
"I think it's because it was created in this world." Raphtalia theorized. "... I think."
"That is possible." Merleo agreed with the theory.
"Now that I know the skill works…"
And with that, he proceeded to make a few TMs with the help of everyone's Pokémon. These TMs were ones for Drain Punch, Stone Edge, Shadow Ball, Dazzling Gleam, Bulk Up, Calm Mind, Swords Dance, Reflect, and Light Screen. The remaining ones were moves that neither Tyler nor Chelsea knew about. Those moves are Trailblaze, Liquidation, High Horsepower, Body Press, Pollen Puff, Expanding Force, Grassy Terrain, and Psychic Terrain.
"I think we have enough TMs for later." Naofumi said as he turned towards Tyler. "Thanks for the reminder earlier, Tyler."
"No problem, man." His party member smiled at him.
Once Melty and Fitoria returned, everyone continued having breakfast.
"Ah, that was so much fun~" Melty stated, feeling satisfied with herself.
"I realized that your day had only just begun…" Fitoria stated. "But why don't you rest a while longer before you leave…"
"Huh? Shouldn't we…" Melty trailed off as she faced towards Naofumi.
"So, what's your call, man? Wanna stay or do you want us to get going?" Tyler asked his leader.
"I guess so." Naofumi said. "If Fitoria's offering, we might as well accept."
"Really!?" Melty asked excitedly.
"Besides, we're celebrating." The long-lived Filolial Queen added. "Allow us to show you a little bit of hospitality."
Then, her flock proceeded to let out a happy squawk.
"Huh!? Wait a second. Are you trying to throw a new queen party on top of everything!?" Filo exclaimed as a yellow Filolial approached her and quickly answered her. "Stop making decisions for me!"
"Congratulations, Filo!" Melty told her best friend as she was picked up by a blue Filolial and placed her onto its back
Raphtalia chuckled at the sight before the same thing happened to her.
"Huh?" Tyler said before he, Chelsea, and Merleo were picked up by other Filolials and were placed onto their backs.
"Wait. Are they willing to give us a joyride too?" Kurisu inquired before a red Filolial answered her and picked her up so that she could get on its back.
"I believe that answers your question." Merleo stated before the Filolials collectively let out a squawk before running off to another direction, with some of them carrying most of Naofumi's party members as well as Melty.
"Whoa! Wait a second!" Tyler said.
"Slow down!" Chelsea added as she and the others were carried away by the Filolials.
The Pokémon, however, did not take this lying down.
"Heyo, where are those one-headed Doduo carrying our Trainers!?" Scrafty asked.
"Yeah, yeah! Especially since we want to have fun too!" One of the heads of Vanilluxe stated.
"Ooh! Are we playing tag? I'm all in!" Gengar stated before he flew towards the direction that the Filolials took off.
"Let's just catch up to our Trainers!" Riolu said, reminding them.
"Yeah… Kurisu and the others could get hurt." Floette agreed.
And with that, the Pokémon went after their Trainers.
The only people who were still in the area were Naofumi, his Pokémon, and Fitoria.
"Well… I guess I'll have to enjoy this when I can."
Little did he know, something big will happen tomorrow…
To be continued...

That's all about it for today's chapter!
Yeah, I decided to add how TM were made in the story, but the way it works wil be different. And yes, I have decided to make Melty a Pokémon Trainer by having her catch a Karrablast. And regards of it and Shelmet that Filo caught, it's no secret about the connections between those two.
Again, very sorry for the wait. On top of what was mentioned above, I've also brainstorming for this story a few times. I'll try to not delay this story and all others as best as I could.
Leave a review and I'll see you next time!
