Musutafu (Three weeks ago)

Mort awoke with a splitting pain in the back of his head. Looking around, he found himself in a junkyard. "What in..." Worried, he brought out his phone to check his map. However, the screen was displaying nothing but static.

"Zrrt! Location unknown!" the phone alerted.

"That's not good." Mort said, pocketing his phone. Pulling a Poké Ball from his pocket, the boy released his Charizard and got on its back. "We need a bird's eye view. Maybe we can find some landmarks and figure out where the heck we are."

The Flame Pokémon understood the command, flying into the air with a sense of urgency. Once they were high enough in the night sky, the duo looked around the cityscape for anything that could tell them where they had woken up. For a few minutes, there was nothing of note. At least, not until they saw a man on fire battling against a woman wearing a mech suit.

"What?" Mort asked, shocked by the bizarre abilities they were displaying. "You seeing this too?" he asked his partner. Charizard appeared to be just as confused, watching in a sort of trance as the flaming man shot streams of fire from his palms.

Mort's Secret Base (Day)

"So, we're on the police's radar now." Mort said, sitting down in a chair. Charizard, Eri, and many of Mort's Pokémon looked concerned with the boy. After what happened with the Sludge Villain, Mort was put on probation because of his hasty actions. However, because his efforts worked, he wasn't taken in by the police. It just left a black mark on his record.

"What are we going to do now?" Eri asked, holding a small Pokémon resembling a plush toy with a crayon-drawn face.

"Well, I'll have to be more careful with how I act in the future." Mort said. Upon seeing his ward's distressed face, he gave a smile and tried cheering her up. "Well, that only applies to me. You can still have fun whenever you want."

"Zzrt!" an electronically generated voice said. A phone floated down from the ceiling, adorned with a case with a gold star on it. "There's someone outside! Bzzrt!" On the screen, it displayed video footage of a bipedal mouse man in a suit standing just outside the base's door.

"That's Principal Nezu." Mort said, recognizing the animal. He was rather famous among zoologists for his Quirk, High Specs, which gave him incredible intelligence. He was also the headmaster of the most prestigious hero school in the world. After thinking for a bit, Mort made his decision. "Let him in."

The door opened, allowing Nezu to enter. "Quite a fascinating hideout, Mr. Détruire." the mouse man complimented. "Almost as fascinating as your friends."

Charizard, Greninja, and Chesnaught looked at each other, unsure of how to respond to that. "Why did you want to meet me? Do you want to follow up on the police's investigation?" Mort asked, curious.

"No, you don't have to worry about that." Nezu said. "I just wanted to meet you personally. After all, it's not every day you meet someone from another dimension."

There was a beat of silence before Mort started to laugh. "I told you he was sharp." he told his partners, grinning. "I take it they were the biggest tip off."

"Among other things." Nezu said. "Namely, the fact that everywhere you go, a strange energy unlike anything I've ever seen follows."

"A side-effect of being, like you said, from another dimension." Mort said, surprised that anyone from this world could detect the lingering radiation. "But you didn't come all this way JUST to meet me. What are you really after?"

"Mr. Détruire, I was not the only one to notice your presence in this world." Nezu said, bearing a serious expression. "While I may not know much about your own reality, in this one, power such as yours tends to be targeted."

"And you want to get to me before they do." Mort said, seeing through Nezu. "Thanks for the offer, but I think we'll do just fine on our own."

"Perhaps, but are you content with that?" Nezu asked.

"What do you mean?" the trainer asked, curious.

"You went out of your way to expose yourself to the world when you fought the Sludge Villain." Nezu reminded the boy. "And based on that, I know you're the kind of person to help whenever possible. Even at the expense of your own freedom. But what if you try and help again, but it ends up with them paying the price?"

Mort looked over to Eri, who was currently doodling with the plush Pokémon and one that resembled an aye-aye. He sighed before speaking again. "What did you have in mind?"

"Put simply, I want to let you put your skills to use." Nezu said, bringing out a pamphlet for UA Academy and handing it to the boy. "The entrance exams are in ten months. I hope to see you in one of my classrooms."

Mort looked down at the pamphlet, weighing the pros and cons. "If I do this, Eri and my Pokémon will be protected, right?"

"You have my word; nothing will happen to them if I can help it." Nezu promised.

Taking a deep breath, Mort weighed the pros and cons before making his decision. "Count me in, then." he said with a smile.
