Bella

I'm sitting beside my best friend and partner Kelly in Chief Softy's office. Kelly's giving me silent looks as she fiddles with her fingers in her lap. I sigh, shake my head, then bring my attention back to Chief Softy. He's shuffling through paperwork. It's been about two minutes since he had called us into his office, and he has said nothing. "Girls," he starts. It's probably another task of patrolling another school in Los Angeles.

"I know that you grew up in Forks, Washington, Bella. And since you two are partners, I found this to be the perfect task for you both." He puts down the papers. "I am assigning you two to go undercover at a college near Forks. Port Angeles, actually." As soon as I hear Forks come out of his mouth, quick flashes of honey-gold eyes and the feeling of cold skin jump into my mind. No… I shake my head rapidly.

What the fuck.

"Chief, I-"

"You both will go undercover as Penny and Diana Point. Sisters, so it'll be perfect for you two. Freshmen at Peninsula College." He hands us two papers with IDs on each. "There's this drug that's been real popular there. It's called ZAP. 'Parently stands for Zone of Absolute Pleasure. Kids there have been going crazy over it."

What the fuck?

Chief Softy shakes his head and holds up a printed news report with a large picture of a young white male smiling. The headline reads "18-year-old student dies of a drug overdose".

"Ethan Reed. Nice looking boy. He died last week after overdosing on ZAP." Chief Softy puts the papers down and holds his hands together. "Now, you two are going to investigate the students at Peninsula College. Infiltrate the dealers, find the suppliers."

"This is like, straight out of a spy movie. This is so 21 Jump Street." Kelly smiles and nudges me. "Are you ready Bells? I'm Jenko and you're Schmidt!" She's shaking with excitement. I sigh and shake my head.

"Chief, before you continue…respectfully, I don't think I'm fit for this assignment. I look too old. Older than the freshmen there. And someone will notice me. It'll ruin the whole mission." I'm the one fiddling my fingers now, and I look up at Chief Softy apprehensively.

"Bella. Kids these days look like they're in their mid-30s and they're like 19. Put on those long eyelashes that girls wear and you'll fit in perfectly. You two will be given makeup that will alter your appearances enough so that you can stay undercover without anyone recognizing you." He gives me a stern look. "Don't worry. I've already told your father about it, and he's willing to let you both stay at his house. I mean, thank god, because we don't have the budget for you guys to be staying in a hotel."

I jump out of my chair. "Chief! What?!"

"Bella. Charlie's a good man. He's a police officer too, so he understands. And you have no other option, really, because of the budget cuts. Anyways, are we good here? Take the papers and study them when you're on the plane there or something. You guys will need to remember it. Now stop trying to find reasons to leave this case. You know the area best, and you two are tied at the hip, so go on now." Chief Softy gestures to us to leave, shooing us away with his hands. I frown and take the papers, following Kelly out the door.

After the worst heartbreak of my life, graduating, and then moving away, I'm coming back to the place I've desperately tried to forget four years later.

On the four-hour flight from Los Angeles to Port Angeles, Kelly and I studied the papers that Softy gave us.

"Pretty cool how we're sisters huh?" Kelly nudged me and smiled widely.

"Yeah, I guess."

"What's up with you and Forks? You seemed like you were willing to fist fight Chief if it meant not going."

"Well…remember the Edward guy I told you about? And his family?"

"Yeah. They're there?"

"No…it's just the memories are something I'd rather not revisit. And I don't know how I'm going to feel being there. I moved away physically to maybe mentally move on from them. It helped a little, y'know? But I guess I'm just scared the feelings will come back." I looked out the window to the sky outside.

"I get it. But don't worry Bells. You were a kid. Now you're Diana Point." She started to whisper. "And, you're a badass cop. You worked hard to get here. You're not going back motherfucker!" She pulled her fist up and made a sound of something similar to a screech. I ducked my head in embarrassment. She and Emmett would get along, I thought. Maybe in another timeline, they would meet Kelly and see how great she is. I smiled at her and thanked her.

Looking down at my paper, I tried my best to memorize all the facts about this Diana Point girl that I was supposed to be. The IDs that Softy gave us were just pictures of our actual IDs, but with impressively edited on makeup that made us look different enough to argue that we weren't Isabella Swan and Kelly Colburn. I read through the sheet of paper below our ID cards. Diana Point. Fraternal twin sisters with Penny Point. Graduated from Loyola High School in Los Angeles, California and is starting her first year at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Washington. Likes cats. Majoring in nursing. Loves to party, especially with her sister. I assumed Kelly's paper said similar things. I reread the sheet until I was confident that I knew enough of this character to at least pretend to be her. I reread the paper until we landed.

After a painful two-hour drive from Port Angeles to Forks, I tried my best not to let my mind wander as I stepped outside the car to the front of Charlie's house. I imagined Edward still watching me from behind the trees around my home. I thought about Alice getting visions of me back in Forks, and I wondered if they ever came back while I was gone. Kelly opened the trunk and took out both of our bags and luggage. "C'mon Swan, stop making me do all the work! Help!" She put her things down and whacked me on the head with her free hand. I smiled at her and picked up my bags. The door to the house opened and out walked Charlie. He had bags under his eyes and a few white hairs growing on his head and in his mustache. He held his arms out and walked towards us.

"Bella!" He smiled. I visited Charlie every year on Christmas, but I guess him seeing me here with these bags reminded him of when I first came to Forks. Our feelings about my stay seem to be contradictory.

"Dad," I smiled and hugged him. "This is Kelly, my best friend and partner. Kelly, this is my dad."

"Penny, you mean." Kelly corrected me and smiled at Charlie. She held out her hand. "It's nice to meet you, sir."

"You can call me Charlie." He shook her hand and nodded. "Here, let me help you guys." He took both our luggage and walked into the house. Kelly closed the trunk. With the door of the house open, we followed him in, holding the rest of our bags.

Kelly stayed in my room with me. She insisted on me sleeping on my bed while she slept on the floor, which I argued with her over for at least an hour before I got tired and reluctantly agreed. We settled all of our things into my old room and sat on the floor. Despite all the moving and cleaning, Edward was stuck in my mind. I thought of him waiting for me outside the window like he used to. I hugged my arms around myself, noting that the feelings of sadness and pain that I used to feel were still there, but more manageable. It was more like a bad memory in the back of my head.

"Okay, Bells. Tell me. Who are you?" Kelly looked at me with such an odd, serious-looking expression that I couldn't help but laugh. "I'm Diana Point. Your fraternal twin sister. 18 years old and starting college. I love cats and partying, and I was on the swim team in high school, and you're my best friend."

"Good. And remember, we're from Los Angeles, but we live in an apartment near campus. Even though realistically we're an hour drive away from the college." Kelly smiled at me.

This was going to be the longest couple of months in my life.
