The campus library was much larger than even the one at Hogwarts, not that the fact was very surprising. Since pursuing education outside of the British Isles, Hannah had noticed that a lot of things she had had been told was the best was actually not. That included everything to do with only formal school for magic in the United Kingdom. Her first year at the University of Notre Dame had been full of mandatory remedial courses to get her up to par to the standards that the rest of Europe required of NEWT level.

Apparently, Hogwarts was more than a little bit of a joke to the rest of the world.

It made Hannah even more determined to get her teaching degrees and return to open the UK's first primary school for magical children. Harry had already vowed to help with the finances and operations. He was in Sweden, getting his own degrees that would help with their goals. Last they had talked, Harry was still getting pressured to give up higher education to go to the auror academy.

(Hannah had heard that Harry joining was the only way that Ron would be allowed, which might have more than a little bit to do with why he was still receiving pressure. But Hannah didn't think it was her place to point that out to her famous friend who would rather forget his fame.)

A hand plopped in the middle of Hannah's open book, breaking her out of her fugue. Hannah popped out her headphones immediately when she saw that Susan standing there. The sage green light from the lamp of the neighboring table looked surprisingly nice as it backlit her. Somehow it made the loose cascade of her crimson locks look like flames. It was probably the butter yellow peasant shirt she had on over her faded black jeans.

"Hey there, studious Hannah," Susan said teasingly before leaning over to place a chaste kiss on Hannah's lips. Hannah rolled her eyes, but couldn't help but smile back.

"Hello, love. What brings you here?"

"I thought you could use a break," Susan replied. Her brown eyes dropped pointedly to the book she still had her hand on. Hannah sighed, but Susan was right. She had been studying for hours without a break and her mind was starting to feel shiny around the edges in a way that meant her blood sugar was dropping.

"I guess you're right. What did you have in mind?"

"I was thinking fish and chips. There's a great place just a few blocks away," Susan suggested. Hannah's stomach growled at the thought of food. She hadn't even realized how hungry she was.

"That sounds amazing. Let's go."

The two girlfriends gathered their things and made their way out of the library. The sun hit Hannah's face as they stepped outside, a welcome change from the fluorescent lighting in the library. They walked in comfortable silence, enjoying the warm breeze and the sights of other students hurrying to their next class or meeting.

As they entered the fish and chips shop, the smell of freshly fried fish filled their nostrils. Hannah's mouth watered as they got their order and then wandered over to the nearby park to eat at a picnic table. Susan raised her bottle of green apple soda to knock it against the bottle of Hannah's sparkling rose water in a toast.

"Thank you for this, Susan. I really needed a break," Hannah said between bites. She gave the other woman a soft smile. "What would I do without you?"

"Starve to death, obviously," Susan replied with an answering grin. Hannah threw a chip at her. Like the barbarian she was, Susan caught it in her mouth and ate it with an inappropriate amount of appreciative sounds. Hannah couldn't possibly be more in love with her.
