The young blush unicorn read her history book with an expression that showed she was clearly lost to the world around her. Unicorn eyes were often glossy and had poor eyesight, but thanks to a nearby human village, a librarian with dark, straight hair and pretty pink streaks gave her some glasses and books to read. Having lived a very, very long time, Celestia knew how to read, and so she taught the young pony how to as well, and now that pony was showing her books Celestia'd never read before, such as this one, the story of her little sister's unjust banishment. It brought a deep pain to explain to the little pony that it was her, but she figured it out, so Celestia had no need to.

Nestled against the older mare, Twilight read her book out loud with some struggle as she recounted the harrowing tale. "My, I had no idea humans would keep this story alive." Twilight looked up at her queen, glasses slipping slightly from the movement as her curious eyes scanned the white horse's solemn expression. Celestia sadly looked with shame in her heart at her pupil and began to explain. "No pony has the hands to write, and using our levitation to is tricky. So, with the help of a trusted human many moons ago, we wrote this together. This tale is meant to be a warning, Twilight. Do not ever ignore the plights of those you love, do you understand?"

The small, pink pony nodded, her white, straight bangs bobbed lightly as she did. "I am not much for friends though, my Queen. They all want to play in the day, but I want to read, and learn all I can. I know of our kind who can is sparse, and, I'd like to become a wizard myself one day!" Twilight excitedly said and tapped her front hooves lightly a couple times in front of her. Celestia's expression softened up with a giggle, and she placed a golden hoof upon the pony's back. "In time, Twilight. Don't you think though, that making friends could bring you something wonderful? Something present in many books, but can only be understood thoroughly by experience?"

Twilight tilted her head up confusedly, her eyes still bright and curious as she stared up at the sun bathed queen. "Friendship, Twilight. I speak of Friendship. Why not give it a try?" Her little pink face scrunched up in distaste at her mentor's repeated attempts at getting her to try making friends, and with a defeated sigh, she used the magic in her pale purple horn to levitate her glasses off her face and onto the book between them. "I don't know where to start, there's so many ponies, and they all already look so happy, they don't need me or want me…"

"They don't know what they're missing. Show them." Twilight looked up at Celestia's certain and loving expression, and with her ears flopping down, she stood, and levitated her things into her indigo saddle bag, her lilac hooves meeting the flowery grass they lied on. Feeling unsure and scared, she gave Celestia one last pleading look, only to be met with her Queen's ever encouraging expression. She sighed, and realized, there was no way of getting out of this.

Giving it a go, she slowly trotted out of the jade grove where her Queen resided, and out of the forest they called Canterlot, a forest where many unicorns resided and secluded themselves from society. After a long time of walking and passing many ponies as she went, she wound up in a land known as Ponyville. It had many ponies out and about, the area hilly and not nearly as flowery or filled with trees, but that's not to say there were no structures. There were fluffy clouds above the land with a fountain and some structures sprinkled about. There were no homes, for ponies slept wherever they liked, but there were things like a barn, a sweets stand, a pen made of flowered bushes, a carousel with beautiful clothing, and more. The place was very odd and intrigued the young unicorn with it's color and variety.

She hesitantly approached the town, only to need to look up at hearing a warning from above. Crashing into her with a rainbow trailing behind was a baby blue pegasus, white feathers and fluff covered her wings and hooves that were currently in the air as she laid on her back, Twilight flopped on top of her. She groaned and stood up, dusting herself off as the pegasus pony rolled onto her front and looked up at her with intrigue and excitement. "Hey, I don't recognize you, you're a unicorn! And, what's that?"

Her fluffy hoof pointed to her satchel and Twilight looked back at it, seeing that there wasn't much dirt on her beloved gold threaded carrying case. "Oh, this? It's just a book. Don't you know what that is?" With an oblivious grin on her soft face, the rainbow maned mare shook her head and got up. "Don't know what a book is, but I'd like to! Can ya tell me?"

Twilight just looked at her dumbfoundedly, unable to believe that other ponies didn't even know what books were. They weren't highly common among unicorns, but she figured other ponies interacted with humans more often; perhaps her perceptions of others were wrong and would be disproved as she came to know more of this town's inhabitants.
