Konohagakure, Training Ground 7 – Early Morning the day after team 5's first d-rank mission
Naruto stood in the center of Training Ground 7, a broad smile on his face as he watched his team approach. Today marked another crucial step in their journey—chakra nature assessment and their first real introduction to ninjutsu training. The three genin arrived one by one, their anticipation evident.
Ruyoshi was the first to touch down, gliding gracefully before his wings folded neatly behind him. "Sensei, are we doing something exciting today?" he asked eagerly, brushing dust off his arms.
Naruto chuckled. "You could say that. Today, we're diving into the basics of chakra nature and learning how to harness your elemental affinities. Trust me—it's going to be exciting."
Hanabi arrived next, her expression calm but curious. "Chakra natures? I've read about those. Are you going to help us determine ours?"
"Exactly," Naruto said, nodding. "Understanding your chakra nature is the foundation for powerful ninjutsu that's tailored to your strengths."
Finally, Shinichi appeared, her quiet demeanor as steady as ever. She gave Naruto a small nod of acknowledgment and stood beside her teammates, her sharp eyes already taking in her surroundings.
"Alright, Team 5," Naruto began, clapping his hands together. "Before we get started, let me explain a bit about chakra nature. Every ninja has a natural affinity for one—or more—of the five basic elements: Fire, Wind, Earth, Water, and Lightning. This affinity determines how easily you can learn and use jutsu of that nature."
He gestured to the three genin. "To figure out your nature, we'll use a special chakra paper. When you channel your chakra into the chakra paper, it reacts based on your affinity," Naruto continued. He reached into his pouch and pulled out three small squares of thin, white paper. "If your nature is Fire, the paper will burn. For Wind, it'll split in two. Earth makes it crumble to dust. Water soaks it, and Lightning makes it wrinkle."
He handed a piece of chakra paper to each of them. "Focus your chakra into the paper, and let's see what nature each of you has."
Ruyoshi stepped forward first, holding the paper nervously. "Alright… here goes nothing." He closed his eyes and channeled his chakra into the paper. Almost immediately, it crinkled sharply along its edges, folding as if an invisible hand were squeezing it.
"Lightning nature!" Naruto exclaimed, grinning. "No surprise there, considering your speed and those wings of yours. Lightning users are quick and precise, just like you."
Ruyoshi's eyes widened. "Really? That's awesome!" He flapped his wings slightly, clearly energized by the revelation.
Next up was Hanabi. She held the paper delicately between her fingers, her Byakugan briefly activating as she focused her chakra causing the paper to turn to dust.
"Earth nature," Naruto said with a proud smile. "Not surprising considering most hyuga have a earth nature, it's best for defence and protection"
Finally, it was Shinichi's turn. She didn't hesitate, channeling her chakra into the paper with ease. The result was twofold: one corner of the paper burned, while the rest became damp, the edges curling slightly.
"Dual affinity!" Naruto said, raising his eyebrows in surprise. "Fire and Water. That's rare—and impressive. Fire for offense, Water for adaptability. You've got a lot of potential to master complex techniques."
Shinichi nodded, her expression remaining calm, though a flicker of excitement passed through her eyes. "That explains some things."
Naruto clapped his hands together. "Alright, now that we know your chakra natures, it's time to put them to use. I'll teach each of you a basic elemental jutsu based on your nature. It's going to take practice, but this will be your first step toward mastering your affinities."
Naruto divided the team into groups sending a shadow clone with each, focusing on their individual strengths and needs.
Naruto led Ruyoshi to a clear patch of grass. "Alright, bird Boy, we're going to start with something simple: Static Shock Jutsu. It's a basic technique where you create a small burst of electricity to stun or disorient an enemy."
Ruyoshi nodded eagerly, his wings fluttering. "Sounds good. What should I do?"
"First, focus on gathering your chakra into your hands," Naruto explained. "Visualize it sparking and crackling, like a storm brewing. Then release it in a quick burst."
Naruto demonstrated, holding his palm out as small sparks danced across his fingers. With a flick of his wrist, a crackling burst of electricity shot forward, singeing the grass a few feet away.
Ruyoshi watched closely, then closed his eyes to focus. After a few attempts, faint sparks began to form in his palm. "I think I've got it," he said, gritting his teeth as he pushed harder.
With a sharp crack, a small burst of electricity shot out, startling a nearby bird into flight.
"Nice!" Naruto said, clapping him on the back. "Keep practicing that control, and you'll be shocking everyone in no time."
With Hanabi, Naruto demonstrated the Earth Style: spiked ground technique. "This one's great for creating some distance between you and your opponent".
He showed her how to gather chakra into her palms and release it to the ground causing spikes to shoot out of the ground
Hanabi mimicked his movements, her Byakugan activating to analyze the flow of chakra. It took her a few tries, but soon after she was starting to make lots of progress.
"Not bad, Hanabi!" Naruto said, grinning. "With your Byakugan, you can fine-tune this technique to strike with pinpoint accuracy."
Hanabi smirked slightly, clearly satisfied with her progress.
With Shinichi, Naruto decided to start with a simple Fireball Jutsu and a basic Water Bullet Jutsu. "Since you've got dual affinities, we'll work on both. Fire for offense, Water for defense and versatility."
He demonstrated the Fireball Jutsu first, inhaling deeply before exhaling a concentrated burst of flame that roared across the training ground. Then, for the Water Bullet Jutsu, he pulled moisture from the air to form a sphere of water in his hands before launching it at a nearby tree, leaving a wet mark on the bark.
Shinichi observed silently, then mimicked his movements. Her first attempt at the Fireball Jutsu produced only a small puff of flame, but by the third try, she managed a proper fireball, though it was smaller than Naruto's.
The Water Bullet Jutsu came more naturally to her. With minimal effort, she formed a sphere of water and launched it, hitting the target dead center.
"Great job!" Naruto said. "Balancing two affinities isn't easy, but you're off to a strong start. Keep at it, and you'll be a force to reckon with."
After an hour of individual practice, Naruto gathered the team together for a group exercise.
"Alright, you've all done great with your individual training," he said. "Now, let's see how you work together. Your mission is to hit me with one of your new jutsu. Use your teamwork and combine your strengths. Ready?"
Hanabi activated her Byakugan immediately, scanning Naruto's chakra network. "We'll need to coordinate our attacks. Ruyoshi, can you use your wings to keep him distracted from above? Shinichi and I will flank him."
"Got it!" Ruyoshi said, taking to the air.
Naruto grinned, watching as his team moved into position. "Let's see what you've got, Team 5!"
Ruyoshi swooped down, releasing a burst of Static Shock Jutsu toward Naruto, who dodged effortlessly. Meanwhile, Hanabi used spiked ground to catch between the spikes but Naruto was able to back step out of the way.
Shinichi took advantage of the opening, combining her Water Bullet Jutsu and Fireball Jutsu to create a scalding burst of steam that obscured Naruto's vision.
"Not bad," Naruto thought, his senses heightened. "They're starting to work as a team."
He countered with a clone, the real Naruto slipping behind them. "But they still have a long way to go."
Before he could strike, Hanabi's Byakugan caught his movement. "Behind us!" she shouted, pivoting to block his attack. Ruyoshi and Shinichi responded instantly, launching simultaneous jutsu that forced Naruto to retreat.
The battle continued for several minutes, with the genin pushing themselves to their limits. Though they didn't manage to land a hit on Naruto, their coordination improved with each attempt.
Finally, Naruto called a halt, grinning proudly. "You've come a long way already. Keep this up, and you'll be unstoppable."
The team collapsed onto the grass, exhausted but satisfied with their progress.
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, Naruto gathered his team for a final word.
"You've all got incredible potential," he said, his voice sincere. "Chakra nature, ninjutsu, teamwork—it's all coming together. But remember, being a ninja isn't just about power. It's about heart, trust, and never giving up."
Ruyoshi, Hanabi, and Shinichi nodded, their determination evident.
"Alright, same time tomorrow," Naruto said, standing and stretching. "Rest up—we've got plenty more training to do."
As the three genin left the training ground, Naruto watched them go with a sense of pride. Team 5 was far from perfect, but they had the spirit and drive to become something extraordinary.
