Chapter 86

Hanna was about to go home for dinner when she got a text from Emma asking her to come to her house. Hanna really didn't want to go. Emma was onto her. Hanna knew it, but if she didn't go, that would only cause Emma to be even more suspicious. Hanna took a deep breath. She could do this. She waved her hand and sent herself to her sister.

"What do you know?"

Hanna jumped at the sound of her voice. She turned around. Emma had her arms crossed and was staring down at her. "What are you talking about?"

"You're hiding something from me."

"No I'm not."

"Is there something else you're not telling me about the web of lies you have yourself tangled in with Mom and Dad?"

"No, I told you everything about that."

"Is Henry hiding something?"

"Not that I know of."

"Mom or Dad?"

"No."

"Regina?"

"I don't think so."

"Killian."

"No…" Hanna broke eye contact with her sister and began fiddling with the sleeve of her jacket. She quickly realized her mistake and looked back at Emma.

"It's Killian."

"I just told you it wasn't."

"But you're lying." Emma began walking back and forth in front of Hanna. "If it was something bad you would have told me."

"Emma, I don't know anything about Killian."

"So that means it has to be something good." Emma stopped pacing and had a triumphant grin on her face. "He's proposing isn't he?"

"How…how would I know that?"

Emma turned on her heel and walked away.

"Where are you going?"

"Upstairs."

Hanna followed Emma into her bedroom and watched as she began searching through Killian's dresser drawers. "What are you doing?"

"Looking for the ring."

Hanna's eyes went wide. "What?"

"The ring." Emma slammed the bottom drawer shut and turned to her sister. "I know that's what you're hiding from me."

"It's not. Why would you think that?"

Emma went to Killian's sea chest next. "I just know. Now go look in his nightstand, while I check in here."

Hanna put her hand on the lid of the chest. "How do you know?"

"You pretty much just told me."

"I did not!"

"Plus, Dad's been acting weird, and Mom is being all smiley when she sees me."

"That's not true."

Emma raised her eyebrows at her sister.

Hanna sighed. "Well even if he is proposing, don't you think you should let him ask you when he's ready?"

"I just want to see if I'm right. Move your hand."

Hanna did what her sister said, hoping Killian was smart enough to not hide the ring in their bedroom.

Emma didn't have to rummage through the chest for long before she found the small box. "Ahh! I knew it!"

"Emma don't." Hanna quickly swiped the box from her.

"Give it back!"

"How do you even know there's a ring in here? That pirate has a lot of jewelry. Maybe this is his."

Emma shook her head and grinned. "I know that's my ring."

"Well, I'm not giving it to you."

"That's okay." Emma waved her hand, making the box disappear from Hanna's grasp.

"Ugh, Emma!" Hanna tried to get the box back, but her sister already opened the lid. "He wanted to surprise you! Why'd you have to go and ruin it?"

"So you did know!"

Hanna just rolled her eyes. "You're the worst, you know that."

Emma smiled and looked down at the ring. "Wow. He really did a good job."

Hanna walked over to her sister to look at the ring again. "It's beautiful, isn't it?"

Emma nodded.

The front door opened.

"Crap. Killian's home." Emma looked to her sister. "You better go."

"What are you going to do?"

"I don't know. Just go."

"Okay." Hanna waved her hand and sent herself home.

"Where have you been?" Snow asked. "Dinner's been ready for 15 minutes."

"Sorry. Emma asked me to come over. She found the ring."

Snow's mouth fell open. "She what?"

"The ring. She found it."

"How did she know about it? Did you tell her?"

"No, Mom. She just knew. She could tell I was lying about something and she said you and Dad were acting weird."

Snow sighed. "Well, what is she going to do?"

"I don't know. Killian came home, and she told me to leave."

"I'm sure we'll hear what happens soon enough."

Just as they finished cleaning the dishes from dinner, Emma came into the loft and officially announced the engagement.

Snow held onto Emma's hand to look at the ring. "Oh, Emma it's beautiful. I am so happy for you."

"Thank you."

Hanna could tell her sister was really happy. She couldn't stop smiling.

"I cannot wait to tell your father we have a wedding to plan."

"Oh. About that. We're going to wait a little while before we start planning."

"Oh. Why?"

Hanna could hear the disappointment in her mom's voice.

"Well, Gideon is still out there and even though I defeated him once, we don't really know what he's up to and I don't feel like I can focus on anything else until I've really dealt with that."

"Actually, you're going to have to." Regina walked into the loft, followed by Zelena.

"What now?" Emma asked.

"The Evil Queen."

"What about her?"

Zelena's eyes went wide when she spotted the ring. She reached out for Emma's hand and pulled her closer. "Is that an engagement ring?"

"Oh. Yeah. Umm…Hook proposed."

"Emma. I'm happy for you. I really am." Regina reached out and gave her a hug.

"Thanks. That means a lot."

"That just leaves the question," Snow said. "What happened to the Evil Queen?"

"She's still a snake, right?" Hanna asked.

"I have no idea. She got loose," Regina told them. "If she has figured out a way to escape her mortal coil, there's no telling what evil she could be up to."

The door opened and Henry walked in. "She figured out a way to de-snake herself. She has my author's pen, and she wanted me to give you this." Henry held out a page from the storybook.

Hanna's never seen that page before. It showed Regina and Robin kissing outside the tavern. That didn't happen in Henry's book. "Where did this come from?"

"It magically appeared to me with what I thought could be an ending to my story with Robin. A happy ending," Regina said. "Instead it was just a cruel twist of fate, showing me an ending that could never be."

"What does it mean?" Henry asked.

Regina sighed. "It means the Evil Queen has found him…the other Robin. She wants me to know that she'll hurt him unless I face her."

"One last time," Snow said, reading the note written on the page. "Wait. How is that even possible? Without Gideon's sword, she can't hurt you without hurting herself."

"Unless she figured out another way," Zelena said.

Emma shook her head. "Regina, you can't go. You'd be walking into a trap."

"Well, we can't just leave Robin."

"We won't. I'll go," Emma said. "This is my fault. I'm the one who convinced you to bring him here. This is on me."

"Emma, you don't have anything to make up for. You were just trying to help."

"Well, what are you going to do?"

"Go alone. This is my battle to fight, and it has been ever since I tried to destroy my dark side up on that rooftop in New York."

"You can't do this to yourself," Snow said. "Emma's right."

"I have to. If I don't, this won't just end with Robin getting hurt. She'll hurt everyone I care about…all of you. And I can't let that happen. The Evil Queen is going to get what she wants. Our fight ends today."

Regina left with Zelena, Henry went home, and Snow decided to wake David a little early so Emma could tell him the good news.

"Emma, I'm so happy for you." David pulled her in close for a hug.

"Thanks, Dad."

"So, tell me how it happened. How did he ask you?"

"Well, he didn't really get the chance to."

David laughed. "Why is that?"

"Hanna came over and we may have accidentally found it while looking through his sea chest and…"

David looked right to Hanna. His bright smile from hearing about the engagement disappeared. "What were you doing at Emma's?"

Hanna gulped. She held tighter to Neal who was sitting on her lap. "Well I…" she looked to Emma, who gave her an apologetic look in return.

"Don't look at your sister to save you," David said. "Why weren't you at home?"

"It was my fault, Dad," Emma said. "I told her to come over."

David shook his head. "She knows she's not allowed to be anywhere except home or school." David turned his attention back to his youngest daughter. "Did you go anywhere else you weren't suppose to today?"

"No."

"Hanna, I can tell you're lying."

"I went to Granny's after school."

"Does your mother even know you're suppose to be grounded?"

Hanna shook her head.

"You didn't let her read my note?"

"She read part of it."

"And what happened to the other part?"

"I don't know…"

"Hanna."

Hanna looked down. "I made it disappear."

"What was that?"

Hanna looked up at her dad. "I made it disappear."

"Hanna I just…I can't even believe this." David looked to Emma. "I'm going to wake your mother again. Will you please inform her of Hanna's punishment for me?"

Emma looked between her dad and sister, then sighed. "Yeah, I'll tell her."

"Thank you." David walked back into the bedroom.

Hanna furrowed her eyebrows at her sister.

"Han, I'm sorry."

"Don't tell Mom."

"She's going to wonder why she's up again."

"Just come up with an excuse."

"I told you I wasn't going to lie for you."

Hanna sighed. She could hear her mom getting up from the bed. "At least don't tell her about any of the school stuff, okay?"

"It's going to come out eventually. Wouldn't you rather get it over with?"

"No."

"Hanna…"

"Just don't."

Their mom was walking towards them.

Hanna gave Emma one last pleading look.

Emma nodded, agreeing to keep part of Hanna's secret.

"Hey girls."

"Hi, Mom," they said at the same time.

"Why am I up again?" Snow's eye darted between her silent daughters. "What's going on with you two?"

"Nothing." Hanna said.

"Emma?"

"Just tell her, Hanna."

"Tell me what?"

Hanna sighed. "I'm grounded."

"Why?"

"I left the loft to go look for Gideon after Dad told me to stay here."

"The same day he confronted Emma?"

Hanna nodded.

"And you've been grounded since that day?"

"Yeah."

"Hanna!"

"I don't need another lecture about it," Hanna groaned.

"So you've just been going wherever you want after school and watching tv while I've been awake, knowing the whole time you weren't suppose to?"

"Yes."

"I know your dad would have told me about this in a note. What happened to it?

"I changed it…"

"Hanna!"

"I'm sorry!"

"Have you done this before?"

"No. This was the only time." Hanna glanced to her sister to make sure she wasn't going to say anything.

"It better never happen again. Is that understood?"

"Yes."

"And however long your dad grounded you, you can double it."

"Mom…"

Snow shook her head. "I don't want to hear it." Snow looked to Emma. "I'm going to go wake him again, please let him know."

Emma nodded.

But before Snow made it to the bedroom, her phone rang. It was Regina. She needed them to meet her at Granny's.

Hanna stayed behind with Neal and waited for her mom and sister to return. When they came back they told her everything that happened when Regina faced the Evil Queen. First, the queen told Regina she used Robin to turn herself back into a human, then he asked her to send him back to the wish realm. The queen granted his request. After talking with her evil half some more, Regina ripped out both of their hearts and transferred some of the evil back into her own heart. Now they were balanced. The Evil Queen wanted a fresh start and Henry used his pen to send here somewhere she could get just that. Before she left, she told them everything she knew about how to break Snow and Charming's sleeping curse. It won't be easy to break, but at least they know where to start. She genuinely apologized to Snow and Regina for everything she did and promised to do the right thing from now on. After Hanna was filled in on everything, Snow woke David again.

"Is your mother up to speed on everything?"

"Yes," Hanna said.

"Is there anything else I need to know?"

They girls told him everything that happened with Regina and the queen.

"Anything else?" he asked

Hanna shook her head, then looked to her sister.

"What aren't you telling me?"

Emma sighed. "Mom wanted Hanna's punishment to be double the amount of time you said it should be."

"Well, I never set a specific time, so I guess that means you could be grounded for quite awhile."

"But Dad…"

"Go upstairs and get ready for bed. I'll take Neal."

Hanna groaned, but did what her dad said. She gave the baby to him and went upstairs.

Hanna came downstairs the next day and found Emma sitting on the counter while her dad paced the floor in front of her.

"So…Hook…he…killed my father. Okay, that's a little tough to process."

"He what?" Hanna asked.

Emma sighed. "I just found out last night. It happened a long time ago before he changed. He didn't know." Emma looked to her dad. "I was hoping I wouldn't have to tell you."

"Where the hell is Hook anyway? He didn't have the guts to come here and tell me himself?"

"There's more. Hook…he…left town."

"What?"

"We had a big fight about him hiding this, and I told him if he wasn't ready to trust me, that…that we shouldn't talk for a while, so I guess he wasn't ready, because Leroy saw him on the docks, and he got on the Nautilus and just…sailed away."

Hanna shook her head. "I can't believe he would do that."

"Neither can I…"

"Emma, I'm so sorry." David wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close.

"Thanks, Dad."

"Of course." David kissed the top of her head. "Are you sure you want to go into work today?"

Emma nodded. "I need a distraction."

"Okay." David turned to Hanna. "Will you watch your brother for me?"

"Yeah. Can Henry come over?"

"That's fine." David put his arm around her. "Do not leave this loft."

"I won't."

"Okay." David wrapped his other arm around her and pulled her close. "Call if you need anything. I love you."

"Love you too."

"Bye, Han."

"Bye."

Hanna walked over and picked Neal up from his jumper. "I promised Dad I wouldn't leave, but I made no promises about the tv. Want to see if there's anything good on?"

Neal gave Hanna a smile.

"Good. Let's go." Hanna walked into the living room, but stopped dead in her tracks when she found the table, which usually held the tv, was empty. "Ugh…"

Hanna sent Henry a text asking him to come over, then set Neal up with his toys on the floor while she waited.

The door opened not even a half hour later.

"Dad? What are you doing back?

"Regina decided Emma needs a girls night. She instructed me to wake your mother."

"Oh. Can I go?"

"No. You're grounded…extra grounded at that."

Hanna rolled her eyes.

"And they're going to a bar. I know you've been watching Neal a lot lately. Do you want me to see if Granny or Ashley can watch him?"

Hanna shook her head. "No. Henry has plans with Violet, so I need someone to keep my company."

"Thanks, princess." David kissed the top of her head. "Fill your mother in when she gets up."

"I will. Hey…what did you do with the tv?"

"I had your sister magic it away."

"What? Where did she send it?"

David shrugged. "She'll bring it back once your punishment is over."

Hanna sighed.

Once her mom was awake, she told her the plan. Regina came by not to long after and they went out for their girls night.

Hanna opened her eyes when she heard someone walk into her room later that night. Her mom must finally be back. Hanna couldn't tell what time it was, but it felt late. She wasn't sure what she was doing her her room either. She realized she was clutching the baby monitor in her hand. She remembered she brought it up here with her after she put Neal to bed. She planned to clean her room up some, but must have fallen asleep instead. She felt her mom lay down next to her on the bed. She smelled funny. She rolled over and saw that it wasn't actually her mom, it was her sister.

"Emma, what are you doing in here?" She realized what the smell was…alcohol.

Emma draped her arm over Hanna. "I wanted to come see my favorite sister."

"I'm your only sister."

Emma put her hands on Hanna's cheeks. "And I love you so much!"

"Uhh…how much did you have to drink tonight?" Hanna pushed Emma's hands from her face.

"Way too much!" Emma laughed and sat up quickly. "Hey! Wanna go see Mom? She's drunk too."

Hanna grinned. "She is?"

"Yeah, come on!" Emma held onto Hanna's hand and pulled her from the bed.

"Oh, Hanna, you're awake!" Snow said when she spotted the girls coming down the stairs.

"Hey Mom…" Hanna held in a laugh as her mom stumbled over to her.

Snow wrapped her arms around Hanna and held her tightly. "We didn't wake you did we?"

"Emma did."

"Emma, why did you wake your sister?"

Emma shrugged. "I don't know…"

"I'll be right back." Snow abruptly went to the kitchen and began rummaging through the cabinets.

Emma ran over to her. "Oh a snack! I want one too!"

Hanna followed. She glanced towards Neal's bassinet. They were both talking loudly and now her mom was slamming cabinets, she didn't know how they hadn't woken him yet.

"I need to get home to Henry. Are you going to be able to handle these two?" Regina asked.

"I think so…" Hanna watcher her mom was line up all of the bags of chips on the counter, while Emma headed towards the freezer, probably looking for ice cream. Hanna turned back to Regina. "You're not drunk?"

"No, I was too busy trying to cheer up your sister."

"Well, you were clearly successful with that."

"I also had to make sure your mother stayed out of trouble."

"What do you mean?"

"Mom confronted some vikings at the bar!" Emma called out from inside the freezer. "She challenged them to a knife throwing contest!"

"And I won!" Snow added.

"Can you guys keep your voices down?" Hanna peeked into the bassinet again. "You're going to wake Neal."

Snow put her arm around Hanna. "I'm sorry baby." She pulled her close and kissed her on the cheek.

Hanna pulled her face away from her mom. She smelled as bad as Emma. "It's okay."

Snow smiled at her, then she picked up a bag of chips and held them out to her. "Here, sweetie, have a snack."

Hanna shook her head. "I'm not hungry."

"I want some!" Emma took the bag from her mom and dumped some into the tub of ice cream.

Snow's eyes went wide. "That is the best idea I've ever seen."

"You've never had chips in ice cream before?" Emma asked.

Snow shook her head. "No."

Emma opened the drawer, pulled out a few spoons and handed one to her mom. "Try it!"

Snow took a bite. "This is amazing!"

"Isn't it?"

Snow nodded and dug her spoon in for another bite.

Hanna bit her lip to keep herself from laughing.

Emma held out another spoon. "Regina try it!" she insisted as ice cream and chips spilled from her mouth.

"I'm good, Swan." Regina turned to Hanna. "Are you sure you'll be alright if I leave?"

"Yeah."

"Let me know if you need anything."

"I will, thanks."

Regina waved her hand and sent herself home.

Snow and Emma were elbow deep in the tub of ice cream.

"Maybe you guys should slow down."

Emma shook her head. "No way."

"It's so good, Hanna." Snow held out her spoon to her. "Are you sure you don't want to try it?"

Hanna grinned. "Yeah, Mom, I'm sure."

"Just try it, Han!" Emma tossed a spoon towards her.

Hanna wasn't prepared. She tried to catch it, but it crashed to the floor. Neal's cries instantly followed.

Emma focused her attention back on her snack and didn't even seem to notice she woke the baby.

Hanna sighed and picked up her brother. "It's okay, buddy." She bounced him in her arms, trying to calm him, but he continued to cry. He spotted Snow and reached for her.

Snow put her spoon down and walked her to him. "Oh baby, I'm sorry we woke you." She held out her arms to take him.

Hanna lifted him towards her, but her mom stumbled backwards. Hanna quickly held onto her arm to steady her. "Mom, maybe you should go lay down."

Snow nodded. "The room seems to have started to spin."

Neal's cries got even louder when he realized he wasn't in his mommy's arms yet.

"Oh, honey, please don't cry." Snow kissed his tear stained cheek. "Sissy's got you."

Hanna picked his blanket up from his bed and wrapped it around him. "It's okay, buddy." Neal pushed the blanket away, and continued to cry. Hanna grasped tightly to the blanket, knowing he would want it eventually, then she looked up and saw her mom was in bed and about to fall asleep. Hanna ran over to the bed. "Mom, wait! Kiss Dad before you fall asleep2."

"Oh right." Snow rolled over and smiled at her husband. "I miss you, Charming." She kissed his lips, then fell asleep.

Hanna continued to bounce the baby in her arms as David got out of bed.

"What's going on?" David asked.

"Emma and Mom got drunk. Emma woke the baby and Neal wanted Mom, but she got dizzy and couldn't hold him. Now he's all upset and won't calm down."

David walked over and held out his arms to him. "Come here, buddy."

Neal turned away from him and continued to reach for Snow. His cries became louder and the tears streamed down his face.

"I'll go sit with him on the bed by Mom," Hanna said. She nodded towards the kitchen. "You go deal with Emma before she eats the entire tub of ice cream."

David gave Hanna a nod and went to the kitchen.

Hanna sat down on the bed."Here Neal, lay by Momma." Hanna set him down next to Snow and he laid his head down on her chest. Hanna covered him with his blanket and rubbed circles on his back. His cries stopped and his breathing began to even out.

Hanna tried to listen to the interaction happening in the kitchen. It seemed her dad was having a hard time convincing Emma to give up the ice cream.

"Em, I'll make you a deal," David said. "If you give me the ice cream now, I'll let you have some for breakfast."

"You promise?"

"Yes."

"Pinky promise?"

Hanna shook her head. She wished she had her phone so she could record all of this. She looked down at her brother and saw his thumb found it's way into his mouth. His eyes were closed. He was finally back to sleep.

A few minutes later, David came in carrying a sleeping Emma. "She passed out on the counter after I put the ice cream away."

"I'm not surprised. Those drinks must have been strong." Hanna carefully picked Neal up and stood from the bed.

David laid Emma down next to Snow while Hanna put Neal back into his own bed.

Hanna let out sigh of relief.

David put his arm around her. "Sorry you had to deal with all of this. I didn't expect your mother to drink so much."

"It's okay. It was actually pretty entertaining until they woke Neal."

"I bet." David reached down and kissed the top of her head. "I'm sure you're tired."

Hanna nodded. She gave her dad a hug, then went upstairs to get some sleep.
