Naruto's time with the monks was a pivotal chapter in his journey, marked by reflection and growth. He'd had a deeper understanding of himself and the world around him now.

Despite the tension from his recent experiences, the calmness of the temple and the wisdom Kinzo offered gave him a sanctuary for both his mind and his spirit, which he wasn't aware he needed. As the days went on, and the monks' gentle guidance provided a safe space for self-exploration, Naruto found solace in the simplicity of temple life, even if it was for only a few days.

Now, Naruto stood in the temple's damp gardens, surrounded by a vibrant array of flowers and carefully cultivated greenery. The air was cool and humid, offering a cool atmosphere meant for meditation and an appreciation of nature.

In front of him, a stone basin filled with water reflected his determined expression. He inhaled deeply, forming the seals for a basic fire-release technique.

When he exhaled, a controlled stream of flame emerged, hovering above the surface of the water without disturbing it.

He pressed harder, increasing its intensity until it reached the other side, to which he cut off the flow of chakra going to his throat, ceasing the jutsu just before it could harm anything in the garden.

He let out a breath and gave a small cough before a small, content smile appeared on Naruto's face, as the progress from the training he was currently partaking in made him feel like his usual, optimistic self.

"Not too shabby for a few days of training." He said to himself with a slightly raspy voice.

Nearby, a group of monks observed with subdued approval.

Though this wasn't universal, their initial skepticism about allowing a shinobi to train within the temple had faded over the the few days of him being here as his discipline and respect for their customs became evident.

Kinzo approached him, his serene smile never wavering.

"Well done, Naruto," Kinzo said. "Your flames no longer seek to destroy. They serve your intent. This is progress."

Naruto scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "It's thanks to your advice, old man. Controlling fire is way harder than it looks."

Kinzo chuckled softly. "Control comes from within. You have learned to temper your emotions, and the flames have followed. But there is more to learn."

Before Naruto could reply, a junior monk approached and handed him some water before bowing. Respectfully. "Naruto, Master Kinzo, the ceremony is about to begin."

Naruto's grin faded slightly as he glanced at Kinzo, who nodded.

Naruto drank some water and followed the monk and elder right after.

Another thing he came to understand was that these monks had an understanding of energies that was astonishing in spite of them being completely unassuming and seemingly not at all accustomed to using Chakra whatsoever... Well, not in the traditional sense.

The ceremony was held in a grand chamber lit by hundreds of candles. Incense filled the air, its earthy aroma blending with the faint scent of aged wood. Naruto settled onto a cushion near the back, his posture awkward but respectful as the monks began to chant.

Kinzo sat at the head of the assembly, his voice steady as he addressed the group. "Today, we reflect on karma, the unseen threads that bind our actions to their consequences. It is not a force to be feared, but one to understand and embrace."

Naruto listened intently, his mind racing with questions. As Kinzo spoke of karma as a reflection of one's intent and choices, Naruto couldn't help but think about his own life—the hatred he had endured, the friends he had gained, and the losses he had suffered.

"Karma is not punishment," Kinzo continued. "It is a mirror. What you send into the world will find its way back to you. If you wield fire with anger, it will burn you. If you wield it with purpose, it will light your path."

Naruto nodded in the background before his gaze fell to his hands, a bit calloused from training. The weight of Kinzo's words settled over him, blending with the faint warmth of the flame-shaped amulet hanging from his neck—a gift from the monks. He closed his eyes, the chants of the monks fading into the background as he reflected on his journey.

When the ceremony ended, Naruto remained seated for a moment, watching the monks file out in quiet unison. Kinzo approached him once more, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

"How are you feeling?" Kinzo asked.

Naruto took a deep breath before looking back at the elder. "I'm...Good? I think I'm doing good. I've made more progress here than I ever did with my... therapists."

Kinzo chuckled and patted the boy's shoulder. "Just remember to take things slow and one thing at a time. You are doing well, and we appreciate you for taking our customs to heart. It is rare for an outsider with no prior knowledge of what we do to show such a desire to learn from us."

Naruto nodded and stood up, stretching. "Yeah. It's been a huge honor... Can I ask you something?"

The old man nodded. "Of course."

"I'm leaving tomorrow, and I know whether I'll be back here for some time... I was wondering if I could... Perhaps... Barrow some teachings for the road?" Naruto asked, careful of his wording.

Kinzo chuckled and motioned for him to follow. "Of course. Follow me. I believe that you would be better suited to some of our simpler scrolls. I'll also make sure to have a couple of acolytes come with me and gift you with a travel set of candles and incense."

Naruto nodded, following him into an area where they had scrolls, candles, and other items.

Kinzo sighed and took one of the large boxes from off of the shelves, setting it down and brushing off the dust atop of it before opening it.

He skimmed through its contents before smiling and pulling out a scroll that held instructions for the temple's fire-breathing technique.

He handed it over to Naruto, who looked surprised. "I thought you guys don't use ninjutsu?"

"This temple doesn't use ninjutsu to any capacity, which is very true. However, in the past, it did. We have no need for such things, but I do think it would do better in your hands rather than it staying here to collect dust." The old man chuckled.

"Wow..." Naruto muttered, looking over the scroll with interest.

The old man lightly lifted the wooden necklace around Naruto's neck. "This right here should prevent other temples from simply turning you away in case you come across them in your travels. Just show them this and tell them you trained under Kinzo, and you should have no issue gaining access."

"Wait... Really?"

Kinzo chuckled. "Of course. It's not a universal pass. However, you'll get by."

Naruto nodded at this and took the scroll carefully from the man. "Thank you. I appreciate this."

The elder shrugged. "Visit us sometime. We aren't the most popular temple, but we do appreciate visitors... Outside of those trying to use our space solely for ninjutsu, that is."

Naruto chuckled and scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, of course."

[2 days later]

The days spent in Yugetsu were easily some of the most relaxing and progressive ones of Naruto's life. He'd spent the time training his fire release technique, hanging around in town with Jiraiya, and generally enjoying his little vacation.

At this point, Naruto can learn fire-release jutsu from the jump. He blew through exercises as Jiraiya predicted. 2 days with clones was really all it took.

The old man was still annoyed at having been locked out of the hotel room, but it was laughed off... The sheets, however, was a lesson learned. In truth, he had no idea what he was thinking there. But, alas, that is the past, because according to Jiraiya, Tsunade is in Tanzaku. They had work to do.

The two were making their way out of the village and toward the exit, and Naruto took one last look at the bustling city streets. He was going to miss this place a little.

"So, what's the plan from here, perverted master?" Naruto said as they approached the village gates. The sun was setting, casting a soft golden hue over the landscape, as Jiraiya had decided they would travel by night this time around.

"Well, we know where she is... No, it's a matter of pinpointing her exact location. She should have no idea that we're looking for her. That's an advantage. We're just gonna find, and from there, I'll work my magic." Jiraiya said as he stretched his limbs.

"Your magic?" Naruto asked as they passed through the gates, waving the guards goodbye. "Doesn't sound like something that'd convince her."

Jiraiya laughed. "I'm a master of persuasion, Naruto. You'll see. I already have a failsafe she can't technically ignore."

Naruto noticed the subtle but serious gleam in Jiraiya's eyes, but he decided not to ask about it. They were now officially on the road again, and Jiraiya had plans, and it was a 50/50 chance he'd either like it or despise it.

"Now listen up," he began, his voice firm but tinged with excitement. "We're gonna move on to something useful starting today in regards to your training. You picked up the fire-release exercises pretty fast but don't get the big head. Just because you can spit a little fire doesn't mean you can perform even a simple fire Jutsu. We'll fix that by introducing you to my bread and butter."

Naruto looked up at him with some curiosity. "And what's that?"

Jiraiya smirked and glanced at him. "Flame bullet. It's fast and easy to learn, but it can also be really powerful. Once you master that, I can show you a trick or two to make that fire release of yours even more useful in the field."

Naruto nodded. He'd seen Jiraiya couple that jutsu with oil, and the result was... Astonishing. "Ok, I think I understande why I'm learning this, so how am I supposed to get started?"

"Simple," Jiraiya said, taking out his scroll and opening it, flipping it to a section marked 'fire' with the kanji for flame bullet underneath. "It's Konoha's most popular jutsu. It's literally the exercise you've been doing, just on a much larger scale."

Naruto took the scroll and skimmed through it.

With a sigh, he put in away and smirked. "I'd give myself a day before that jutsu is mine. You'd better have some more material, because that right there is nothing."

Jiraiya gave a challenging laugh at that. "Is that so? Ok, then, how about a friendly wager?"

Naruto glanced back at Jiraiya and scoffed. "You're on."

Hinata stood outside the room, her fingers brushing against the edge of her sleeve as she listened to Nei complain about his bandages.

He is getting them changed again, and like usual, he's giving his fellow branch members a hard time. Even now, she can hear him complaining vehemently.

In her hand was something she'd been meaning to attain since visiting her father.

Hizashi's letter.

It's meant for Neji's eyes alone, but she's sure her father likely read it and had it resealed. Surely that was the case.

Getting her hands on this piece of paper was a massive pain. Her grandfather has been spending so much time in that office that between her training, team meetings, and other responsibilities, she barely had the time to sneak in and snag her target.

She let out a breath, steeling herself before opening the sliding door quietly, watching the scene play out before her.

His bandaged hands rested on his lap as two branch members busied themselves, changing the dressings. Neji winced, his face tightening as one of them secured a particularly tight wrap. "Be more careful," he snapped, glaring at the servant.

"If you would hold still, it wouldn't sting so much, Neji-san." The female servant replied.

Neji's glare sharpened, but the tone in her voice made it difficult to respond with real venom. "Just be more careful," he muttered, his face flushing slightly.

"We are doing our best," the second servant replied, tightening another wrap with deliberate firmness. "The medicine will kick in soon. Patience."

Neji flinched at the sensation in his left arm as he watched them work. It wasn't until one of the servants glanced toward the door and froze that he felt the energy in the room shift.

The room fell silent as they noticed Hinata standing in the doorway, her expression unreadable. They stood and bowed deeply, the second servant quickly following suit. "Hinata-sama," one of them murmured respectfully.

The other branch member glanced uneasily at Neji, clearly unnerved by the girl's presence. Both servants were on their feet, bowing now, and Neji was glaring.

Hinata's gaze lingered on Neji's condition for only a moment before she spoke, her voice firm. "Wait outside. My cousin and I need to talk."

The two branch members froze, exchanging uncertain glances before one began to speak. "But Hinata-sama—"

"You can finish your work when I'm done with him." She interrupted.

Her tone brooked no argument, and neither wanted to test her.

"No," Neji interjected sharply, his voice rising. "They will stay. I won't be left alone with you."

Hinata raised a brow before her gaze returned to the servants, who gave a curt bow and quickly made their way out. Hinata stepped aside to let them through, and Neji shot to his feet, his face burning with anger.

"Hey! I told you to stay!-"

"Drop it, Neji. This is between the both of us. Besides. We haven't really spoken-"

"Don't you dare try and have a normal conversation with me!" He said, his voice raising, his eyes narrowing.

Hinata hummed to that as she walked into the room and inspected the medicine bottle being used for his burns. "How bad is it?"

"...They're saying I'll never be a shinobi, thanks to you," Neji replied.

Hinata nodded and set the letter down on the small table beside him, her movements deliberate. "This is from your father," she said, her tone devoid of emotion. "The contents are for your eyes alone. My father wanted you to have it, and I've fulfilled his wish."

Neji's brows raised at this, and he carefully took the letter from the table. Yet, he didn't open it. He just stared for a moment, recognizing the handwriting. It was indeed from his father.

"Don't expect me to thank you. Why did you bring this to me?" He asked silently.

Hinata didn't respond immediately. Instead, she turned her head slightly, her expression unreadable. "Gratitude isn't something I would ever expect from you. It was a request from my father that you receive this. I don't know what's in it."

Neji remained silent for a moment before his anger slowly returned. "So... He wishes to make amends after all this time? After dismissing what happened to him? Dismissing me after all these years? And now he just expects this... this piece of paper to be the end of that?!" Neji spat out.

Hinata didn't respond as she stared out the window before hearing the note being flicked away. "Tell your father he can shove that note up his ass for all I care."

She didn't flinch as the note fluttered to the ground.

"How petty." She said before stepping over it and making her way to the door.

Her dismissive tone only fueled Neji's anger. He jumped to his feet again, his voice rising. "Excuse me? Petty?! You've ruined everything! My life, my career, my future—it's all gone because of you! Look at me! Do you think this pain and ruin is something I can just accept?! All because you couldn't stand to lose. You're nothing but a spoiled, entitled—"

In a blur, Hinata closed the distance between them, her face inches from his. "Do not dare speak to me about pain and ruin!" she hissed, her composure cracking. "You think I've had everything handed to me? You know nothing, Neji. Thrown out of the main family, abandoned to the 'care' of your beloved branch family, tormented day after day at the behest of our great-uncle!—" Her voice faltered for only a moment before she continued, her tone biting. "Do you not remember shattering my arm as a child? Do you not remember Higashi's laugh? Do you ?!"

Neji's mouth opened, but no words came out. He had no response to that.

"I didn't intend to cripple you," she continued, her voice quieter but no less intense. "But if you think I'm going to lose sleep over it, you're mistaken."

She straightened and turned away, walking away. "Read the letter, or don't. It's no concern of mine. We'll speak again soon."

He looked confused at this. "What makes you think I'm going to want to speak-"

"Higashi doesn't wish to see Hiroshi succeed. That's why." She said.

"Succeed in what? What aren't you telling me?!" Neji demanded.

Hinata paused at the door before sighing and turning around. "Seems I'm all over the place. I wasn't aware Higashi would keep you in the dark like this."

Neji let out a breath, trying not to explode. "Just tell me. Don't beat around the bush with me," he said through gritted teeth.

She nodded. "Hiroshi intends to make things worse for you. He's working on a new seal for the branch family, one far more oppressive than the caged bird seal."

Neji's eyes widened in shock. "Y-You're lying."

"I'm not." She said, opening the door and letting the spooked eavesdropping servants in.

"W-Why would you tell me this? Why are you working with Higashi?!" Neji asked, confused.

Hinata's expression remained unreadable as she answered. "It's not in my interest to see Hiroshi succeed. That's all you need to know. I'll see you very soon."

Without waiting for a response, she strode out the door and slid it closed.

Kabuto and Guren had watched the duo for days now, trying to find an opportunity to approach, and this was it.

Guren grimaced as Tsunade was helped out of a local bar by Shizune, the woman barely on her feet. It was a truly shameful display.

"Tsunade... The great healer... Drunk and in shambles." Kabuto muttered.

"Pathetic. We could capture her right now. She's in no shape to fight." Guren remarked.

Kabuto glanced behind him; Tayuya and Kidomaru watched from the tree above them. "No. We won't act. Not until we have our answer. There's a reason we waited til today to initiate contact. It's the very reason she's drunk now."

Sakon, who was crouched to the right of them, gave them a look. "And why is that?"

Kabuto adjusted his glasses. "It's the anniversary of her little brother's death. 31 years ago, on this night, Nawaki was blown apart in a senseless war... A sad thing, truly." The man said with a smirk as he slowly stood and brushed the leaves and foilage off of him before looking down at Guren.

"C'mon. We've got work to do." Kabuto said, making his way down.

Guren nodded and looked back at the Sound 4. "Be ready and act only if he gives you a signal."

"Yeah, we know the plan," Tayuya said with a scoff.

The group of four disappeared further into the trees and bushes while she followed Kabuto, silently cursing being in this position. 'This had better not get us killed.'

Line break.

"C'mon, lady Tsunade! I need you... to use your... Feet!" Shizue groaned as she half-carried/dragged Tsunade toward a bench, already tired of carrying her.

Tsunade groaned and tried to pull away for what felt like the hundredth time that night.

"Lemme go, Shizune! I'm not done! Im still standing, I can keep drinking! That bartender... That bartender was-"

"Enough!" Shizune yelled, her patience running thin as she set her mentor down on a bench.

Tsunade groaned and swayed in her spot, almost falling over. "No, you listen, you *hic*... You brat... I'm- *hic*

"You're done, Tsunade," Shizune said with a sigh as she went through her bag. She needs her sobering pills.

"Tsunade-sama."

Shizune's head snapped to the side to see two figures approaching them. "You are Tsunade... Correct?" Kabuto asked with a disarming smile.

Shizune raised a brow before raising her hand. "Tsunade is not available. Whatever it is you're here for, it'll have to wait til... Tomorrow."

Behind Kabuto, Guren gave a bow, following his lead. "Our... Apologies. We came for assistance... Uh-" She looked to Kabuto, who continued.

"My mentor is ill and could use some assistance. We have money to pay and a reward you'll surely-"

"Not interested." Tsunade groaned as she lay on her side on the bench. "Get l-lost."

Shizune sighed, finding the pills and planting two in her hand. "She isn't in the best state of mind... I can't say that it'll change any time soon, but-"

"It's ok, really," Kabuto said while waving his hand. "I don't mean to be a bother. It's just that... Well, never mind."

"Spit it out!" Tsunade grumbled as she waved Shizune's hand away, not wanting to take her pills.

Kabuto smiled as he watched the two bicker before him and sighed. "Well, I figured you were the only one that could help, given your history with the man I work under."

Both women paused in their bickering, giving their attention to the man. "Who?" Shizune asked, her interest peaking.

Guren gripped her sleeve, hoping Kabuto would be discreet here. 'Careful now, fore eyes.'

Kabuto sighed and gave a smile. "The man I work for is somebody you are very familiar with. They fought alongside you for years before... Well, things changed."

Tsunade scoffed. "Lemme guess. That pervert got himself into some deep shit and wants me to bail him out? Tell him it's gonna cost him big *hic* if he wants premium-"

"It isn't lord Jiraiya I work for," Kabuto said.

Tsunade raised a brow, and silence permeated the area as gears started turning.

Behind him, Guren tensed when a dangerous glint flashed in Tsunade's eyes, and the older woman took the pills from Shizune's frozen hands and tossed them in her mouth.

After swallowing, she sat up, and no one made a move.

Shizune looked like she was gonna pounce any second, And Guren was the same, with Kabuto crossing his fingers from behind his back... Then, suddenly, laughter broke out from Tsunade, causing the three to jump slightly. She was holding her stomach, and a smile adorned her face.

"HAHAHAHAHA!" Tsunade bellowed, almost going so far as to slap her knee.

'Still drunk as a skunk.' Shizune thought with slight embarrassment.

"You mean to tell me you came all this way for... What? Medical treatment for Konoha's most wanted? Get out of my face." Tsunade said with a wave as she went to stand. "I'm celebrating tonight, and I don't need-"

"This isn't a joke!" Guren growled before looking to Kabuto to be more assertive. Yet, Kabuto shrugged.

"It isn't, but I understand why it is absurd. I can assure you, however, you'll be rewarded-"

"We don't affiliate with people like you. My master is clear with her words. Get lost."Shizune said firmly, crossing her arms.

Guren growled and stepped closer. "You're master can barely stand! She's obviously not-"

"Guren!" Kabuto hissed before turning to her with a strained/fake smile. "Please allow me to do the talking."

"No, your lackey is right. I'm retired. Find someone else." Tsunade said as she steadied herself and adjusted her coat.

Kabuto sighed. "Like I said, Orochimaru is willing-"

"I don't care about Orochimaru in the slightest. Piss off." Tsunade grumbled, taking her bag from Shizune, whose gaze had never left the duo for a second.

'Such arrogance! To turn her back on us!' Guren thought with frustration. She wanted to put this drunk on her ass, but Kabuto's raised hand prevented her.

"He's offering your loved ones," He said quickly.

Tsunade froze, having taken only a few steps forward, and Kabuto smirked, pressing on. "He wants to show his sincerity. Dan and Nawaki... You want to see them, right?"

"Who do you think you are?" Tsunade whispered as she turned to face him fully.

Kabuto took a step back, raising his hands. "I'm just a servant trying to assist his master. I don't mean to upset you." He said carefully.

Behind him, Guren was itching closer, tensed for a fight.

"You've lost your fucking mind coming here on this day uttering their names like you know anything." She whispered as she took her coat off.

Kabuto's confidence plummeted instantly, and before he could utter anything, Tsunade had moved far faster than any had anticipated, the woman in his face with her fist cocked back.

Guren had already clasped her hands together with haste and yelled out. "Crystal Release: Jade Crystal Wall!"

A wall of crystal formed and spiked from under the ground, but well before it could fully manifest, Tsunade smashed through it so hard that it felt as though she shook the entire block, shaking the ground and throwing the light post they were underneath back into the trees and over the fence. The street going dark.

Shizune watched in awe as Kabuto went soaring through a fence from the shockwave and Guren sent tumbling and struggling to regain her footing, sliding onto her hands and feet on the other side of the street.

Tsunade cracked her knuckles and slowly made her way to the fence where Kabuto had been blown into, Shizune close behind now. "Who the fuck do you think you are, coming to me on a night like this about my loved ones?! Huh?!" She roared as she brought her fist down just before the site of Kabuto's crash, resulting in more ground shaking and the trees rattling, and the shock of it sent Kabuto running up the tree like a cat.

"H-Hang on! I didn't mean to upset you! I have proof-"

"I don't want to hear it!" Tsunade roared, rushing for the tree, but the sound of clashing caught her attention, and she turned to see Shizune intercepting Guren, the two locked in a blade lock.

Kabuto took the opportunity to jump back over the fence, landing back onto the sidewalk, and whipping out a scroll, throwing it open with haste, and just as Tsunade was upon him once more, he slammed his hand onto the parchment and a cloud of smoke went up. Tsunade jumped back, wary of whatever trick the young man was trying to pull, and to her surprise, a coffin appeared.

"Guren! Disengage!" He yelled as the coffin opened.

Both Guren and Shizune jumped back, sliding away and returning to their opposing sides.

Tsunade's eyes remained focused and ready... Up until she saw the man in the coffin.

The first Hokage.

Kabuto adjusted his glasses and gave a strained smirk. Even so, this little trick wouldn't last more than a minute if he didn't start speaking. "We can bring back your loved ones, Tsunade! He has found a way to restore the dead, I promise! I just need you to hear us out!"

Tsunade said nothing as she stared at the crumbling form of her deceased grandfather with disbelief, so it was Shizune who spoke on her behalf. "What kind of trickery is this?! A genjutsu? An illusion? This is sick! How dare you mock our Hokages in such a manner! You're-"

"It isn't any of that!" Guren hissed as she looked to Kabuto, the coffin crumbling now and Hashirama's form disappearing.

Kabuto sighed as it became a pile of ash, and Tsunade's trance was disrupted, her eyes now ablaze with fury. However, she didn't move a muscle. Not when the chakra she sensed, even if fleeting... Was indeed her grandfather's.

"Explain." She hissed.

Kabuto nodded, adjusting his glasses. "That jutsu you just witness is called the reanimation jutsu. It is a powerful forbidden jutsu called Impure World Reincarnation. It is Lord Orochimaru's"

"It was the invention of my great-uncle, Tobirama. I know what it is. Explain what it is you are trying to pull here!" Tsunade hissed with more venom.

Kabuto nodded quickly. "Right! The point is, Orochimaru has perfected it to-"

"That didn't look perfected. He's a pile of ash!"

"I know! The caster is too far to maintain such a thing! This was pre-planned! I don't have the means to show you the perfected variant, but think about it and think carefully! Orochimaru has the ability to bring back Dan and Nawaki for a far longer period! You can be given closure and all the time you need to... Do whatever it is you need to do! He's offering you something billions would slaughter one another for! The chance to see you're loved ones again!"

Tsunade's eyes remained sharp as she took slow strides forward, and Kabuto raised his hand to prevent Guren from intervening.

Tsunade leaned down and gripped Kabuto by his collar, the man sweating a bit as he felt the urge to do something, survival instinct kicking in. Yet, he knew better. Even drunk, Tsunade is still too much for him unless worn down.

"I don't want to see your faces around here again. If I do, I'll kill you with your own intestines!" She hissed before slapping him hard enough to send him flying and sliding on his back.

To Guren, it would've been a funny and satisfying sight if the stakes of their mission weren't so high.

Tsunade forcefully grabbed her bag and stomped her way down the street, Shizune glancing back at them with wariness and distrust.

When they were out of ear shot, Guren turned toward Kabuto with a look of annoyance. "What the fuck was that?!"

Kabuto spat out some blood and smirked. "That was us planting the seeds of uncertainty and temptation in her heart."

"She could've killed us!" Guren growled, helping him to his feet. "We need a plan! A plan of action! No more useless schemes! And why didn't you tell me you had-"

Her gaze went to the ashes piled onto the summoning scroll. Hints of a head and hair peaking out. The sacrifice used to summon the deceased Kage. "-Something like this up your sleeve?"

Kabuto sighed and stood up. "Subtlety, Guren. Subtlety and discretion is what was needed here. Besides, this is exactly how Orochimaru wanted me to use it. It didn't have a use other than this. It was a prototype, so nothing was lost."

Guren shook her head as she watched him rise to his feet and gather the scroll, sealing the ashes away. "She'll have plenty of time to think about our offer, and during that time, we'll be making our next move."

Guren scoffed and crossed her arms, her brow raised in curiosity. "And that is...?"

"Her little assistant will be a bit of a thorn... She'll be plan B if things don't go as planned." He said as he rolled the scroll up and stretched.

The Sound 4 gathered as soon as he stretched his back, all four looking a bit confused, but Kabuto didn't allow for any more outbursts.

"Listen up. Our next plan of action starts now. I want the four of you to map out this city, get comfortable with its environment, and find the perfect place to rig some traps for a future ambush. We have one week to get this done, so hop to it. No questions!" He ordered.

The four looked at one another before nodding and fanning out.

Guren crossed her arms and glared at Kabuto's back. "I thought I was in charge of them?"

"Not tonight. I need everything to go perfectly. You bicker with them instead of asserting your dominance. They'll never listen to you, and I don't have time to teach you how to command a bunch of misfits. Just be my muscle and everything will go smoothly."

{The next day}

[Naruto POV]

"Alrighty then! Let's get this show on the road!" Jiraiya said as the duo approached the rather village gate.

They'd traveled the entire morning to get here, and the timing was good. Both are hungry and already tired of eating off of their travel rations.

Compared to the bustling and loud city of Yugetsu village, this place was tamer. The buildings weren't tall, but they were numerous all the same. And, from the looks of it, there are parks and empty spaces to work with.

At least, that's what he peaked out when coming down from the elevated hill a while back.

The blonde took a deep breath, taking in the village atmosphere. It was indeed a much tamer place. Quiet, rich, and unassuming... And there was the smell of food in the air, so there's that.

His stomach started talking to him in agreement soon after, and Jiraiya turned and laughed after presenting their Ninja Ids to the gate guard. "Oh? Someone's hungry."

"Damn right. Toasted bread and jerky aren't exactly a balanced breakfast." Naruto smirked.

Jiraiya nodded. "Indeed. But remember what I explained back on the road."

Naruto nodded and stepped forward, biting his thumb and planting a hand on the ground.

In a puff of smoke, multiple smaller frogs appeared before the blonde. These toads were of a lower tier than their more intelligent counterparts, but they were extremely useful and easy-summoning entities.

"Alright, team. I need you to spread out in search for... Uh."

Naruto looked over at Jiraiya, and the man chuckled. "Look for a blonde lady with a huge rack. She's easy to spot."

The toads all ribbited and hopped off, leaving a bewildered Naruto behind.

Jiraiya patted the boy's head and strode into the village, with Naruto fixing his hair afterward.

"Huge rack? Are we looking for the same person here? I thought she was old?" Naruto asked.

Jiraiya's smirk grew. "Kid... You have no Idea. This is the same lady I chased after for years. I stand by what I said a while ago, though. Don't go chasing the same chick if she isn't interested. You'll waste away... And mss opportunities you had no idea were there until its too late."

"Then why do you do it?" Naruto asked as he whipped out the scroll written by the old man to assist in his training.

"Bad habits," Jiraiya answered simply. "C'mon, let's find somewhere to eat and plan. Then we'll find a spot to rest up. We're going to need it."

Naruto hummed as he took the lead and looked around. They did pull an all-nighter getting here.

[30 minutes later]

The two sat at a diner, waiting on their order now. Jiraiya had ordered a simple salad with fish on the side, and Naruto, well, the boy, had a love for ramen.

"I thought you wanted breakfast?" Jiraiya asked as he skimmed through the dessert menu.

"Is fish and salad a breakfast?" Naruto asked with a raised brow, looking at Jiraiya's food before going through the notes the old man gave him.

"No." Jiraiya answered. "Anyway, food options aside, let's go over the plan. Firstly-"

"You do the talking, I sit there, act aloof, and say nothing. Fourth time you're telling me this." Naruto said with a slight smile.

Jiraiya scratched his head with slight worry. "I did? Geez. Am I going senile already?"

Naruto rolled the scroll up and put it away, giving Jiraiya a look afterward. "You're not getting enough sleep. Something is bothering you."

Jiraiya sighed, not having taken that into consideration. The kid is right. Since speaking to Itachi, he hasn't been able to sleep. Nightmares of what the world will look like in a few years have plagued him. Unavoidable catastrophes and major loss of life were things he truly wanted to avoid. Yet, it seems, with the way the other nations have been moving as of late, this is unavoidable.

'I've been grappling with this since that meeting, and the more I think about it, the worse it gets for me. A worse scenario than the last is conjured up every time I doze off.' Jiraiya thought as he watched Naruto take the appetizers off the tray the waitress was handing them.

'This kid is my lifeline. I can't let them get their hands on him... I wanted to take it easy with him, but... I suppose if he's going to survive... He's going to need to become my student full-time... Yeah... It's the only-'

"Oy! Earth to Jiraiya!" Naruto snapped, waving his hands in the man's face. "Are you getting some, or am I gonna eat this alone?"

"Huh? Oh." Jiraiya chuckled and picked at some fries, munching as Naruto did the same, both chewing in silence as the former toad sage contemplated on the next steps.

"The plan's changing." Jiraiya suddenly said.

Naruto gave him an odd look. "About Tsunade?"

"No, not her. Your training. I've decided something more advanced is... Necessary. We're gonna kick it up a notch." Jiraiya said with a smirk.

Naruto raised a brow. "So, no flame bullet?"

"Well, uh, we'll work on that too, but there is something else I want us to work on afterward," Jiraiya said.

Naruto smirked at this. "Perhaps increasing the size of my Rasengan? I want to be able to make it as big as the one you used on the One Tails."

Jiraiya nodded. "That's a start. But, that'll come easy to you, you'll see. We need something a bit more challenging."

Naruto raised a brow. "That looked challenging as is. What about...-"

Naruto paused suddenly, standing to his feet.

This alarmed Jiraiya instantly, as the blonde was on high alert, and in a way that suggested he was ready for a fight.

"What is it?" Jiraiya asked, standing with the blonde as Naruto went to the window beside them.

Naruto was silent, stretching his senses far out, and it was then that he felt it. A familiar chakra, one he'd tried to snuff out in the exams.

Jiraiya, sensing something very wrong, stood up straight, understanding that his student was in 'combat mode.'

"Naruto. tell me." Jiraiya said with a serious tone.

Naruto clenched his teeth and let out a breath. "Kabuto Yakushi, the Oto spy, is here."

Jiraiya's eyes widened slightly before refocusing on his food, and the old man sat himself slowly. "I see. How far is he?"

"He's in the building across from us," Naruto said, sitting down as well but still looking out the window.

"Can he see us?"

"No." Naruto quickly responded.

Jiraiya nodded. "Good. We'll keep it that way. He won't see us coming."

Naruto looked back at Jiraiya. "So, we're going after him?"

"That depends." He said, rubbing his chin.

"Depends on what?" Naruto asked, picking at his food.

The old man thought for a second before looking up. "It depends on whether he's going after Tsunade.

[Tsunade POV]

The late morning sun filtered through the curtains of the modest inn room, casting soft golden hues over the disheveled bed where Tsunade lay sprawled, one arm draped over her eyes.

Nearby, Shizune moved about quietly, just having returned from fetching a light breakfast for the both of them from the lobby.

"Good morning, Tsunade-sama," Shizune said gently. She set a tray on the small table near the window, glancing toward her mentor. "I brought tea. It should help with your… headache."

Tsunade's reply was a muffled grumble as she swung her legs over the side of the bed, sitting up with a visible wince. "What time is it?"

"Late morning. 11:30. You needed the rest." Shizune hesitated, then added, "After last night, I thought it would be best to give you some time."

Tsunade's shoulders stiffened at the mention of the previous night. She slowly reached for the tea and took a sip before setting the cup down with a sigh. "If you're going to lecture me, get it over with."

Shizune frowned, taking a seat across from her. "I'm not here to lecture you, Tsunade-sama. But I am worried. Kabuto and that woman… they're dangerous. Their offer was clearly meant to manipulate you."

"I know that?" Tsunade said as she rubbed her temples, closing her eyes briefly. "I'm not some naïve genin, Shizune. I know exactly what they're trying to do."

"Then why did you hesitate?" Shizune's tone was soft but unyielding.

The question hung in the air, heavy and unspoken until Tsunade finally answered, her voice quieter now. "Because for a moment… just for a moment, it felt real. The chakra from that jutsu… it was his. My grandfather's."

Shizune's expression softened. "Tsunade-sama…"

"Don't," Tsunade interrupted, shaking her head. "I know what you're going to say. That it's a trick, that it wasn't really him. And you're probably right. But if there's even a chance that this jutsu…" Her voice faltered, and she looked away, gripping the edge of the table tightly.

Shizune reached across, placing a hand over Tsunade's. "I understand how much you miss them. I do. But Orochimaru is using your pain against you. He's offering something that no one should have, not even him. Bringing back the dead? It's unnatural."

Tsunade pulled her hand away, standing abruptly and pacing toward the window. She stared out at the bustling village below, her jaw tight. "I'm not some fool who doesn't know the risks, Shizune. But you can't understand what it's like… to carry this much regret."

Shizune rose as well, her voice firm. "No, I don't understand. But I do know what it's like to care about someone who's drowning in their own guilt. Tsunade-sama, you've saved so many lives and given so many people hope. Don't let Orochimaru convince you that your sacrifices meant nothing."

Tsunade's shoulders tensed, and she turned sharply, her amber eyes blazing. "It's not Orochimaru who convinced me of that, Shizune. I didn't need him to plant doubt—I've lived with the truth of it every day." She took a step forward, her voice rising. "Nawaki is dead. Dan is dead. And I was powerless. That village chewed them up and spat them out like they were nothing."

Shizune's expression twisted in anguish. "T-Tsunade-sama, you—"

Tsunade interrupted with a bitter laugh. "Tell me, Shizune, where is that hope now? Buried alongside Minato? Or Sakumo? They tried to pull me out of this darkness too, and look where they ended up." She gestured toward the window, her hand trembling. "This village took them all. Every single one. And it'll keep taking, no matter how much we give. At least taking some kind of control gives me... Something."

Shizune's voice softened, but it carried a desperate edge. "Tsunade-sama, you're right—the village has taken so much. But you've saved lives and inspired people. That matters."

Tsunade turned back to the window, her shoulders sagging. She leaned her forehead against the cool glass, her breath fogging it slightly. For a moment, silence hung between them, heavy and oppressive.

Finally, Tsunade turned, her gaze softening as she saw the defeated look on Shizune's face. Guilt gnawed at her as she took in her apprentice's demoralized stance. "I'm sorry, Shizune," Tsunade murmured, her voice gentler now. "I didn't mean to take it out on you."

Shizune looked up, startled, but didn't say anything. Instead, she offered a tentative nod, her hands clutching at the fabric of her sleeves.

"Come on," Tsunade said, motioning toward the small table where the untouched breakfast still sat. "Let's eat before this food gets cold. We've both got too much on our minds to face it on an empty stomach."

Shizune hesitated but obeyed, pulling out a chair and taking her seat. Tsunade joined her, pouring them both fresh tea from the pot.

"After this, we'll go out for a bit," Tsunade added, surprising Shizune. "I don't know what, but something productive. We can't sit in this room all day, wallowing. That's not what Dan or Nawaki would have wanted."

Shizune's eyes widened, and a small, grateful smile tugged at her lips. "Thank you, Tsunade-sama."

Tsunade nodded, taking a sip of tea and staring out the window, her expression contemplative. For the first time that morning, the tension between them began to ease.

Neither of them noticed the tiny toad staring at them from the window.

[Naruto POV]

Naruto steadied his breathing, his chest rising and falling as the acrid scent of charred earth filled the air around him. He stood in the middle of a scorched plain, the result of his successful execution of the Flame Bullet Jutsu. Embers still flickered on the blackened ground. The heat from the attack lingered in the air as well.

He wiped the sweat from his brow and cracked his knuckles, his clones behind him doing the same.

"You've got a real knack for Fire Style, kid. I'd say you're a natural," the old pervert said, grinning widely as he clapped Naruto on the back.

Naruto frowned, his lips tugging downward in a pout as he muttered to himself. "Doesn't feel like it," he grumbled. "I don't feel a connection to fire like I do with wind or even lightning. It's just...there." He kicked at a small patch of ash, watching it scatter in the breeze. "And yet, somehow, I'm good at it. Go figure."

The sharp croak of a toad startled him, and he turned his head sharply as a small green toad perched on the branch above him leaped down onto his shoulder. Its bright yellow eyes blinked at him as it puffed out its chest.

" I've found her! Lady Tsunade's staying at the Golden Spring Hotel—a five-star place on the other side of town!" Said a yellow plushy toad.

Naruto raised a brow and looked at Jiraiya, who applauded. "Good job... Uh-"

"My name is Gamatatsu!" The toad cheered.

"Right... Thanks, uh, Tatsu-san." Naruto said with a slight nod before turning back to the field. "So, are we moving to get her?"

Naruto went to take a step when Jiraiya quickly steadied the boy, Naruto unaware of his own exhaustion. "Yeah, as soon as you rest, it's easy."

"What are you talking about?" Naruto said with a shake of his head. "I'm fine!"

"Yeah, no. You look like you're gonna keel over at any second. C'mon, kid. Take a breather and eat some snacks." Jiraiya said, dragging the boy over to the shaded tree.

Gamatatsu followed cheerily. "Hey! Can I have some snacks, too?!"

Jiraiya gave the little toad a look, and before he could say anything, Naruto tossed the toad an energy bar. "Sure thing, little guy."

The toad cheered and ate happily, making Jiraiya shake his head. "Don't go around feeding my toads too often. You don't know what chaos that can cause."

Naruto chuckled at that and sat down, the two back-to back under the shade of a tree as they watched the clones train and disperse one by one on their own.

"So, after a few minutes of rest, we're off?" Naruto asked.

Jiraiya smirked and slid Naruto a book, and the blonde grimaced, thinking it was one of his... 'Projects'. However, this was something very... Very different.

"The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Shinobi? What's this?" Naruto asked, flipping through the first page.

"A project I never got off the ground... Well, I did, but it wasn't very popular." The old man said with a sigh. "It didn't do well at all, but-"

"Naruto Musasabi? You named the character after me?" Naruto asked with surprise.

Jiraiya scratched the back of his head, forgetting that the character's name was... Identical to his young student. "Well, no... Vice versa. Your dad liked the book and named you after him. He wanted to see the book become a success, but, well, as I said. It didn't. It's my one failed works. The one that will never reach a wider audience. So, I gave him the only good copy I had."

Jiraiya looked back to see his student already engrossed into the book and smirked before closing his eyes, deciding a nap wouldn't be so bad. If only the smell of burnt earth weren't permeating the air right now, this would be perfect.

[2 hours later]

"Oy. Who was tired here? Me, or you?" Naruto's voice rang out, and Jiraiya's eyes opened slowly. He was immediately met with the smug face of his student.

"Damn, what time is it?" Jiraiya asked.

Naruto chuckled. "Sun will go down in a few hours. I'd rather not let the efforts of Gamatatsu go to waste."

"Yeah! I worked really, really hard today!" The little toad spoke proudly.

Jiraiya glanced over and deadpanned at seeing his face covered in crumbs and chocolate.

"N-Naruto... How much-"

"He wouldn't stop asking. So, can we get going?" Naruto asked, offering a hand. "It'll be dinner time by the time we get there if you're slow."

"Yeah. Yeah." Jiraiya said. Taking Naruto's hand.

The boy helped the older man up with surprising ease, and the blonde followed Gamatatsu.

As the two walked, Jiraiya couldn't help but ask, "So, how far in did you get?"

"Chapter 7. The chapters are pretty long, but I like that. Before I get into this novel for real, though, is this a finished product?" Naruto asked.

Jiraiya raised a brow. "Why do you ask?"

"I'd hate to finish reading this only to be left on some kind of clifhanger. I'd never forgive you for that." Naruto said, weaving the book. "If it's not finished, you'd better get on it ASAP!"

Jiraiya's eyes widened, hearing Kushina's voice in the boy's words before he chuckled and nodded. "Well, it isn't, but I have a sequel in the works. That should tide you over til then, I suppose."

Naruto nodded with a satisfied smirk. "Good to hear."

{Land of Fire: Tanzaku village: Golden Spring Hotel}

The Golden SpringHotel. A true gleaming testament to luxury amidst Tanzaku's bustling streets. Its towering structure was adorned with intricate gold accents that reflected the setting sun, and its grand entrance boasted marble pillars and an expansive glass facade.

"This is it! This is where I saw her!" Gamatatsu exclaimed, outstretching his arms.

Naruto glanced around, taking in the grandeur. "Wow, this place is huge," he muttered, his voice tinged with awe.

Jiraiya smirked. "Only the best for a gambler like Tsunade. She's always had a taste for the high life."

"So. can I have some more snacks?" Gamatatsu asked, which made Jiraiya slap his forehead.

Naruto rummaged through his bag and found that... The snacks were gone. "Uh... You ate them all."

"Naruto! I told you not to-… Ah, whatever, " Jiraiya sighed.

Naruto shrugged and motioned for Gamatatsu to stay put. "I'll get you something from inside-"

"No, you will not. You have spoiled him enough. Consider the snacks from earlier your prize." Jiraiya said in a stern tone.

"Bu-"

The toad was cut off when Jiraiya clasped his hands, sending the tod back home.

Naruto chuckled and followed Jiraiya inside. "That was a bit mean."

"Yeah, well, you were WAY too nice," Jiraiya said while looking around.

"Of course. Gamatatsu is the son of the boss toad." Naruto said.

Jiraiya paused at that. "How did you know-"

"He told me." Naruto shrugged. "By the way, we're being watched. It's him. Kabuto's here."

Jiraiya's eyes narrowed, but his tone remained calm. "I figured as much. Don't let it rattle you. As long as Kabuto doesn't know we're onto him, we've got the advantage."

Naruto's shoulders stiffened. "But he knows we're here. Isn't that already a problem?"

Jiraiya chuckled softly, placing a hand on Naruto's head. "Sometimes, knowing where your enemy is can be just as valuable as staying hidden. Deception is an art, Naruto. When you understand how to manipulate your opponent's awareness, their advantage can become your own."

Naruto nodded reluctantly, though his unease lingered.

Together, they stepped into the lounge area, where they were immediately greeted by the staff. A sharply dressed concierge offered a warm smile. "Welcome to the Golden Spring Hotel. How may we assist you today?"

Jiraiya leaned forward and shook the man's hand. "The name's Jiraiya. We're looking for a lady named Tsunade Senju. Have you seen her?"

"Why? Do you have an appointment with her, or is this a personal visit?"

Jiraiya smirked. "Personal visit."

Line break.

On the rooftop across the street, Kabuto crouched low, his sharp eyes fixed on the hotel's entrance through a pair of binoculars. His expression twisted into a scowl as he spotted Jiraiya and Naruto stepping inside. For a moment, his composure cracked, and he muttered angrily under his breath, "Damn it. Those two just had to show up."

Beside him, Kidomaru leaned casually against a vent, his arms crossed. "So, what's the plan now? You've been wound tight since we got here, and now they're strolling in like they own the place."

Kabuto's grip on the binoculars tightened. He exhaled sharply, forcing himself to regain control. "This was supposed to be a simple operation. An easy victory." His voice turned cold, calculating. "But it's not over yet. If Jiraiya and Naruto want to complicate things, we'll adapt."

"Adapt, huh?" Kidomaru smirked, raising an eyebrow. "Sounds like a lot of work. Got anything specific in mind?"

Kabuto lowered the binoculars and began pacing. "Perhaps we turn their presence into a weapon. Plant evidence. Create the illusion that Tsunade plans to betray Konoha. It'll sow distrust and divide their efforts."

Kidomaru's smirk widened. "I like the sound of that. Manipulation always spices things up."

Kabuto stopped, his gaze hardening as he looked back toward the hotel. "We need to shift the battlefield to our favor. I'll handle the details, but for now, get back to Guren. Inform her that we're initiating Plan B."

Kidomaru raised an eyebrow. "Plan B? You mean going after Shizune? That's a risky move."

"It's a necessary one," Kabuto snapped. "If we can't reach Tsunade directly, we'll force her hand another way. Guren will understand the stakes."

Kidomaru shrugged, pushing off the wall. "Your call. Just don't screw this up." He disappeared into the shadows, leaving Kabuto alone with his thoughts. The medic-nin's mind raced as he considered every angle, his frustration mounting. He couldn't afford to let Jiraiya and Naruto succeed.

Line break.

Inside the Golden Spring Hotel, Jiraiya and Naruto made their way through the opulent lounge, the polished marble floors gleaming under the soft lighting before becoming plush carpet. Elegant chairs and ornate tables filled the space, where guests sipped tea and conversed in hushed tones. The atmosphere was refined, yet the tension between the arriving duo and their target promised to disrupt the tranquility.

Near the far side of the room, Tsunade and Shizune sat at a corner table, surrounded by an aura of quiet luxury. Tsunade leaned back in her chair, her golden hair cascading over her shoulders as she sipped from a small cup. Shizune, ever composed, sat upright beside her, scrolling through a list of expenses on a notepad.

Naruto's eyes widened as they approached. He elbowed Jiraiya lightly, whispering, "That's Tsunade? She's… I mean, she's beautiful! How does she look so young? You told me she was the same age as you!"

Jiraiya grinned mischievously but offered no explanation. "You'll learn not to question these things."

As they drew closer, Shizune's eyes flickered toward them. Her expression shifted from mild curiosity to shock, and she leaned closer to Tsunade, whispering something that caused the older woman to stiffen.

Tsunade's gaze snapped toward them, her eyes narrowing as recognition set in. "Jiraiya," she said, her tone a mix of annoyance and resignation. "What do you want?"

Jiraiya raised his hands in mock surrender. "Relax. I'm here on good terms."

Tsunade's lips twitched into a faint smirk. "Good terms?" Her eyes drifted to Naruto, and for a fleeting moment, her expression softened. Memories of a younger Minato flashed through her mind, stirring an ache she hadn't felt in years.

Jiraiya's tone shifted as he took a seat across from her. Naruto followed, though he felt out of place amidst the palpable tension. "Sensei is dead, Tsunade. Orochimaru and the Sand Village worked together to take him down during the invasion."

Tsunade's expression hardened immediately, her eyes narrowing as she processed the information. "Hiruzen…" she murmured, a flicker of grief crossing her face before her usual guarded demeanor returned. "So, they managed to kill him too"

Jiraiya nodded solemnly. "He fought to the end, protecting the village. But now Konoha needs a new Hokage."

Tsunade's lips curled into a bitter smile. "And you've come to me, thinking I'd be willing to jump back into the mess I walked away from? You're wasting your time, Jiraiya. I abandoned Konoha's politics for a reason."

"This isn't about politics," Jiraiya argued, his voice steady. "The village is at war. It needs a leader."

Tsunade scoffed. "It's always at war, whether in the shadows or for all to see. And every time, it's the same story. People like you and me get dragged into it, and for what? To bury more loved ones?"

"This isn't just another fight," Jiraiya said, his patience fraying. "The village needs you, Tsunade. You're the only one qualified to step up."

"Qualified?" Tsunade's laugh was sharp, almost bitter. "I pushed two people I loved into chasing that title. Do you know where it got them? Dead." Her hand tightened around the necklace she wore, the weight of her memories etched into her features. "And don't act like you're not just as qualified, Jiraiya. You've survived wars and carried out impossible missions just as I have. The position is yours. Don't dump this on me."

Jiraiya's expression darkened slightly as his thoughts shifted to the Akatsuki. He could still hear Itachi's warning about the group's impending moves. "I can't afford to take the seat, Tsunade. My work keeps the village informed and ahead of threats like Orochimaru and others we can't ignore. Besides, you're the only one who can handle the responsibility of leading the village in times like this."

There was a bit of silence at that, and Naruto's eyes flicked between them, his confusion growing as he tried to make sense of the tension and weight behind their words. Tsunade's sharp rebuttals painted a picture of grief and resentment he wasn't sure he fully understood. On top of that, Shizune's gaze was fixed on him with a mixture of recognition and unease, as though she was seeing pieces of a past he couldn't see, and he had no idea how to feel or react to this.

Tsunade's hand lingered on her cup, her gaze distant as if lost in memories. Jiraiya noticed her silence and leaned forward slightly, his voice softening. "Tsunade… you're not responsible for what happened to Nawaki or Dan. You know that."

Her eyes snapped to his, blazing with defiance. "Aren't I? Nawaki wanted to be Hokage, and I encouraged him. I supported Minato, too, when Hiruzen stepped down. I believed in him. I truly thought he could change things. But when he died, it cemented what I already feared. That the Hokage's seat is cursed. Do you know what that makes me? A fool for ever believing otherwise."

Before Jiraiya could respond, a waiter approached with a tray of appetizers, setting down oysters and calamari.

Shizune, noticing Naruto eyeing the food, slid the tray closer to him with a small smile. "Help yourself," she said gently.

Naruto hesitated, feeling self-conscious amidst the tension, but his stomach growled loudly. With a sheepish nod, he took a few bites of the oysters, surprised by the richness of their taste.

"Damn. That's nice." He whispered, and Shizune's smile broadened.

Jiraiya used the moment of calm to press his point. "Tsunade, you can call the position cursed all you like, but the truth is, it's about responsibility. The Kage hat came before all stepped up because they believed in something greater than themselves. They knew the risks and still gave everything to protect the village. That's not foolishness. That's courage."

Tsunade's hand froze as she reached for her wine, her expression darkening. Her voice, low and cutting, carried an edge that silenced the table. "Courage? Do you think their sacrifices changed anything? My grandfather sought to bring peace to the nations, even handing the tailed beasts out like candy. What happened the moment he passed? War. War that plagues these lands to this very day. He changed nothing. The others gave everything only for the village to remain as vulnerable as ever. Konoha is still plagued by the same dangers... They were fools, Jiraiya. Every one of them."

Naruto's chopsticks snapped audibly in his hand. His voice was steady but filled with barely restrained anger. "They weren't fools. Hiruzen and my dad… they were heroes."

Jiraiya started to intervene, placing a hand on Naruto's shoulder. "Naruto, don't—"

But Tsunade raised a hand to stop him, her eyes fixed on the boy. "No, it's fine," she said, her tone unexpectedly soft. She studied Naruto for a moment, then sighed. "You're right, I misspoke. Minato wasn't a fool, far from it. He was brave, brilliant, and kind. If anyone had a chance to change the village, it was him. However, he was arrogant."

"Excuse me?" Naruto spoke with a whisper, his eyes flashing with anger. Yet, Tsunade's expression never changed.

"He was arrogant. He was unique in how he handled things, and he was a genius who saw where the troubles lay and sought to fix them. He believed that he could change things, and so did I. Even so, he died young and fast. On top of this, the people he died for didn't treat you like the son of a hero. They treated you like a monster upon his death. See where I'm going with this?

Naruto froze, her words cutting deeper than he expected. "That… that's not-"

"My point is that Minato's arrogance and naivety cost him his life. He believed the village would protect you and care for you, but here you are, another child sacrificed to Konoha's endless cycle of war, loss, and hypocrisy," Tsunade pressed, leaning forward.

Naruto glared and crossed his arms. "I know the story. I live it every day. I understand why people are afraid of me... I've... Learned to cope."

Tsunade nodded, her voice softening. "And that is a good thing. I commend you for it... Tell me. Has anyone told you the story of Sakumo Hatake?"

Jiraiya stiffened, and Naruto's eyes widened, recognizing the last name. "Hatake? Is he related to Kakashi?"

Tsunade nodded. "Right. Sakumo was a shinobi of... Extraordinary ability... He was something special, right Jiraiya?"

Jiraiya remained silent, and she smiled, taking a sip of her drink.

"Sakumo, The White Fang of Konoha. He was one of Konoha's greatest heroes and an inspiration to myself and many others who held actual respect to what it should've meant to be a shinobi of that time," she growled, her hand gripping her glass drink hard enough to make it crack.

Naruto held onto his plate, sensing her rise in emotion, and Jiraiya and Shizune remained stoney-faced.

"W-What happened?" He whispered.

"The village happened. They spat his name like it was venom, ostracizing him so badly that he had to protect his only child from scrutiny. What did he even do to deserve such treatment where his very own comrades turned on him?" She asked/mocked before chuckling. "He failed one mission in order to save his entire squad from being wiped out... He rescued the injured and made sure they got home to their families... And they punished him so badly it drove him to commit suicide."

Naruto's heart plummeted at this, and he looked down in thought.

"He was a dear friend of mine. He helped me when I was down. He was a wingman and a stand-up guy... And they killed him. Konoha killed him" She hissed. "These are the people your father believed would defend and raise his son."

"Are you saying he shouldn't have defended the village?" Naruto asked, to which she shook her head.

"No. I'm saying your father knew who he was dealing with when he made the choice in sealing the Kyuubi within you… Or, he should've," She said.

"You weren't there for that to know for sure it's what he even wanted," Jiraiya spoke up.

She nodded. "True. But Kushina would've rather burned the village down than see her child carry the weight of that creature. So, who do you think convinced her to-"

"Enough! We aren't here to debate what happened 12 years ago. That is not why we're here!" Jiraiya snapped.

Tsunade's glare returned, but she sighed. "I've seen enough and dealt with enough. I'm out."

Naruto scowled at this. "You think you're the only one who's lost people? Hiruzen cared about this village more than anything, and my dad gave everything to protect it. You talk like their sacrifices didn't matter, but you're wrong. Saying they died for nothing is like saying I don't matter, and I'd like to think I hold some kind of value! I lost people too! I... I'm still grappling with that loss. I don't have anyone other than Jiraiya to call family now, yet I'm still pressing on! What's your excuse?!"

Tsunade sighed, leaning back in her chair. "I'm tired. Lets go, Shizune."

Tsunade got up from her seat, and Shizune, with a glance towards the others, rose as well. She hesitated, her gaze lingering on the half-empty dishes before her, but a single nod from Jiraiya was all it took to set her in motion, trailing after her mentor with her hands clenched at her sides.

Naruto slumped in his seat and crossed his arms. "She just ruined my whole night."

Jiraiya sighed. "I told you to let me do the talking. I missed my opportunity to tell her some of the changes made in the village."

"S-Sorry," Naruto muttered.

Jiraiya shrugged and waved the waiter over. "It is what it is. We know where she is, and that's all that matters. Let's eat and regroup."

Naruto didn't say anything, and from the way he was staring at the menu with an empty gaze, it meant that though he tried to deny her words, they got to him. She hit the nail in the coffin.

'Great. Just when he was on track, you had to throw a curve ball at him, Tsunade. Brilliant.'

Line break.

End Chapter.

{A/N}

Sorry for the late chapter. I was supposed to post a few days ago, but there were some difficulties doing so. The next chapter is already in the works, and progress is coming fast. I'll keep it at around 7k to get it to you guys faster.

MaxPrime chapter 34 . Jan 23

Really happy to hear that your recovery is proceeding smoothly.

I don't mind you covering the filler arcs and the movies. I'm enjoying every single aspect of your story and any decision you take that gives me more content to consume regardless of it being filler has my thumbs up. Maybe have him team up with other genin as well.

As for the throwing Rasengan, maybe you can have Naruto add the Rasendan into his arsenal instead where he condenses the Rasengan within the tips of his index and middle fingers and then shoots it like a bullet just like how Momoshiki possessed Boruto did it in the anime. Naruto can also add his lightning affinity to it down the line to increase its penetration power so it practically becomes a vanishing sniper bullet Rasengan.

My suggestion would be to do a timeskip just before Shippuden after which he can showcase incorporating his nature affinities to his Rasengan. How OP do you plan to make Naruto eventually?

Glad to see we'll be getting another chapter soon.

{I don't know if revealing how strong he'll be would spoil the fic in any way, so I'll wait until after this arc to answer such a question. He'll be VERY strong, though.}

Samuel Santillan chapter 34 . Jan 23

I loved it, good chapter.

It was interesting because Naruto entered the temple and realized that he had to heal, training only the mind and body is not enough, sometimes you have to train and heal your spirit to be able to move forward.

A question, will Naruto's healing also have to do with Tsunade's, since it seemed to me that that was what the chapter was about, how to face pain, and that it will also have to do with this arc, how Naruto faces Tsunade and how he helps her, right?

I just hope that Naruto and Jiraiya arrive on time with Tsunade, it would be interesting to see a battle between Naruto and the sound ninjas who came with Kabuto.

{As you can see, it will. Tsunade will be important in this story.}

Six paghs chapter 34 .Jan 23

I think you can do a land of snow arc but definitely dont need every movie time skip sooner than later maybe do one for original 2 movies for shippuden

{I like the thought of dong the Land of Snow. I actually liked the movie as a kid. I'll probably add some twists to the story as well.}

Kabei chapter 34 . Jan 23

Hey! Welcome back, glad your surgery was a success. Hope to see more of this wonderful piece of fiction from you.

I've already done a re-read of it all, and I have to say, you piqued my interest twice now, the way you are doing some amazing world building. The politics and fights are top-notch. I'm hoping you continue that trend with future fights. This version of Naruto needs some soul-searching, and it looks like he is starting to get help for it now with the monks. Naruto has always been a person with a strong purpose, and he's not the same as in canon, so it'll be good to find out what you have in store for him.

I know it was already talked about, but the pairings in this story is still up in the air. With Hinata being a very much requested choice, he still has his options open. Temari I still feel like would or could be a good option, for a path of peace perhaps, though that would be a can of politics and hurt for both of them. Is Naruto still the child of prophecy here? To bring peace to this world in turmoil, more than ever. That would achieve his one dream of being better than his Father, Minato.

I would love to read you go into some of the movies, maybe not all of them, but the Land of Snow is ripe and juicy for such a story, Princess Koyuki would be a substantial win for Naruto and his future goals, he'd be collecting outside help by just being himself, which can only help him in the future. Plus, Kumo cannot get their hands on chakra armor.

Getting to Shippuden era would be a great to read, but I feel like Naruto still has some growing up to do as a ninja and a person of importance, and skipping straight to it might dampen what you got going on right now. On the other hand, Shippuden era would open up more interesting fights and people to introduce, with Naruto being older and way more powerful. 3 year time difference is a huge boost to everyone. I'm personally down for whatever choice you make, cause Shippuden is an amazing change of pace for this story and you. Also, would there be possible romance in the future from anyone? The story is a little bleak in certain spots and it's getting a bit gloomy in this recent chapters.

Hope Naruto and Kurama get along faster too, with this being a more mature Naruto. He knows the how and whys now of sealing Kyuubi in himself, and he can totally use the power boost with all these possible high profile enemies now gunning for him.

Hope to see this next chapter soon! It felt like forever, I had to re-read it twice! Cheers man

{Ok. So, I can't answer the Temari bit, but I do have plans for her in the coming future. As for Naruto being the child of prophecy, I don't know how to answer this without spoiling the fanfic. But, since I haven't been psting like I should, I'll do so anyway. The prophecy is all up for interpretation and means Naruto will affect the entire shinobi world. It doesn't say anything about how he changes it, nor whether its a good change. Just that he is an important figure. As for romance, there will be romance, so no worries there.}

Sarah chapter 34 .Jan 23

maybe because i've never found a good fanfiction about tayuya being part of the uzumaki clan. the idea of making her part of the clan is so.. weird? idk but i can't help but find it weird. i just hope you do well if you want to grant the idea.

{I've never found a good fic with her being Uzumaki either, so If I do go that route, wish me luck}

slythefoxx2chapter 11 .Jan 24

I hope you give them more facial expressions beyond smirking because you've used it a lot. Grin? Wry smile Mix it up.

{Bad habit on my part, so sorry. Loved your fic, Seals are Easy, People are Hard. One of my favs. Interesting hearing from a fanfiction celebrity. Never thought it'd happen.}

LigMcGooche chapter 34 .Jan 25

low-key disappointed that Naruto and Tayuya won't be a thing since it's always a fun pairing, in my opinion. I hope you get around to making a story with them soon! great story nonetheless, just hoping it doesn't turn into NaruHina. easily the least interesting ship. both in canon and in fics.

{Yeah, I'd like to tackle these two somehow. Even if they don't end up a couple, I've always liked Tayuya. I'll se what I can do without forcing anything. Some things aren't meant to be if it'll get in the way of the story, but I'm sure I can manage}

ShadeOClutch chapter 34 . Jan 26

Its not about wind nature making the rasengan evolved to rasenshuriken lighter enabled it to be thrown
because if that was the case we know there is a pure. wind release:Rasengan
But I think the problem is the chakra isn't condenced enough how do I get to that conclusion, its simple Bijudame is very powerful and very close to bing like rasengan, I would even go as far as to say Minato created the jutsu seeing Kushina or any other Jinchuriki use bijudama but my point is The Bijudama works on smilar process and bo wind nature is added to it but still can be launched because
1)The Chakra is highly Condensed
2)It moves very fast making sure it doesn't implode before It impacts
3)And in rasengan the chakra isn't just condensed it roatated too increasing its damage potential but decreasing its stability
4)I even think Minato thought he hadn't perfected the rasengan because he couldn't throw the damn thing like the bijudama could be thrown
5)So when Naruto added the wind nature to it it stabilized but not enough because It still would explode on contact because we all know the bijudama thrown by the Jubi was strong enough to go through maybe a 1000 mud walls without inploding
6)And my theory makes more sense when Naruto in the movie Naruto:The last where he threw a rasenshuriken cutting through the army of hyuga robots without exploding when he was saving Hinata
I hope my comment helps in adding more depth in story when it leads to the Rasenshuriken learing arc

{It does add some insight, so much appreciated! I was surprised to see someone put so much thought into the issue on my behalf. In truth, I wasn't worried about Naruto throwing his Rasengan since we see it in Rasenshuriken, and his arsenal will grow regardless. Even so, I may put some effort into having him invent something unique. Much appreciated, Shade!}

{If there are any mistakes within this chapter, sorry in advance. I'll get to editing it when I get the chance}

Thanks for reading!
