Blazepanzer here, and I've wanted to get into writing a few Pokemon fanfics for quite a while, and...well...here I am. I've actually had two in the past, one was a good few years ago and the second one is a rewrite of my current Pokemon fanfic, but I've decided on four in particular.

Out of the four this one is probably one of the more box standard fics, no people going into another world, no crossover, no weird fan-cannon or alt-history shenanigans so to speak. Aside from the fact that I'm using the most relevant native currency to the particular region instead of in game currency. In this case, the yen.

That's not to say that it's the weakest of the three, but if you want a more traditional Pokemon fanfic, this is the one for you. Of course feel free to check out the other three, they should be uploaded on the same day this one is, all within a few hours of this one being posted.

New chapters should be posted once every month across the four Pokemon fanfics.

With that being said, enjoy! Note: Blazepanzer does not own Pokemon!

At least this air conditioning feels nice, the young girl mused to herself as she entered the building, her amber eyes gazing around at all of the long hallways. She sported long dark brown, almost black hair which she wore flat along her back, with two additional clumps hanging across her face, each of the clump held together with a small white ribbon. She also had on her best sleeveless shirt and pants, if her best meant the ones that didn't have too many rips or tears in them.

"Miss Aacob, right?" An elderly lady in a lab-coat noted. "Professor Elm is waiting for you, better follow me," she added, before walking off, motioning for her to follow.

"Yes ma'am," Aacob noted respectfully, following the girl into the central office, brushing her long dark brown hair a bit. Would be nice to have a job in a place like this...but...well...gotta earn a place to stay first, and that's going to take a while...she mused to herself.

"Ahh..Miss Aacob, you are finally here!" A man in a lab coat smiled as he walked over.

"Professor Elm," Aacob bowed respectfully.

"The Pokemon you may borrow is in here, along with three pokeballs," Elm noted. "Just remember, you are only borrowing this pokemon, you're not to train it. Just catch yourself a partner Pokemon, and then feed it until you get back from your little fetch quest."

"Don't worry professor Elm, you can depend on me," Aacob promised, her voice filled with earnestly. Noticing a little imprinted leaf on the ball, she instantly knew that it was a Chikorita. "Thank you so much, and I'll be back as soon as I can," she added.

"We're trusting you with this," Elm cautioned. "Well, off you go then," he added with a gentle smile.

Taeko placed the three balls into her purse, which was an old leather purse that was a bit worn but still structurally sound. "I'll be back soon," she bowed, before walking through the building, winching at the thought of stepping outside. Geeze, you've lived in the summer heat and winter cold all these years and yet you've become spoiled to the air conditioning in less then a few minutes...she chided herself sharply.

She was right to dread stepping outside, the strong heat caused her to flinch. Why is Johto so freaking hot!? she wanted to shout, but forced herself to trek through the suburbs of New Bark Town.

I really miss the comfort of that little shack...shame that grumpy old man had to tear it down and chase me off under the threat of calling the police. I mean...Aacob shook her head, feeling the anger rise up in her. No, don't make yourself angry, she urged herself. You know how you are when you are angry... she paused her thoughts, all of the times she almost got herself arrested flooding her mind, most of it based off of false accusations. It took her a good ten minutes to focus on anything else.

Passing by an old cottage with a for sale sign on the top, she stopped and frowned. That was the old couple I helped split firewood last Hibernal, She realized with a start. Did they decide to move to the big city after all?

"Move it urchin!" A woman growled.

Aacob turned around, shocked to see a younger woman, and just by looking at her she could tell that this was probably the elderly couple's daughter or granddaughter. She did look like an older version of one of the girls in the family photo she saw, when the elderly couple had invited her in for lunch that day. She still had long wavy brown hair and sharp amber eyes from that photo, those which now scrutinized her with harsh judgment.

"Um...what happened to the elderly couple who lived here, did they move?" Aacob mustered up the courage to ask, though in reality she just wanted to leave given the way the woman was glaring at her with thinly veiled malice, like she was some poo stain on the floor.

"Ha, heck no!" The older woman laughed. "They wouldn't willingly give me the house, so I got guardianship and stuck them in a nursing home, along with that little brat boy they adopted!"

Aacob felt herself grow sick at the revelation. You destroyed a little boy's life along with your parents? Just so that you can steal and then sell their house!? She thought in anger, but realized that she was about to assault the woman then and there. Instead, she opted to simply outwardly nodded and began to walk off, trying to hide her anger and how close she was to committing violence against the wretched brat.

She didn't get far when she heard a growl behind her and when she glanced back, she sprinted into a run when she realized that the woman had sent out an Arcanine after her. She could feel the dog's breath on her neck and had shut her eyes in fear before tripping on the ground.

She's going to really kill me! Aacob gasped in fear, shrinking into a shivering ball. I'm going to die here! She began shivering quite a lot at the thought.

"Good boy," the woman smiled, before returning the massive dog to it's capsule. Aacob dared to glance back at the cruel women who just snorted, before giving her an icy glare "Now shove off urchin!" she hissed.

All too glad to be off, albeit barely able to force herself to move, Aacob paused only after she was a good distance, glaring at the woman before sitting on a park bence to catch her breath, heaving ever so slightly. Great...as if being chased away under the threat of arrest yesterday morning wasn't enough, now I get chased away by a giant dog, she muttered inwardly.

She glanced at her hands, shaking from the near death experience. Why'd she have to do that, those elders were such a nice couple! Aacob frowned. And that poor boy...he must have been in school or visiting someone at the time I helped those two split firewood. I hope they discover the truth about him only being placed there for gainsaying and let him live a normal life.

She then thought about the Arcanine. Civilians should be forbidden from evolving such a behemoth... she growled to herself, before taking a final deep breath and moving on, finally able to dispel the shaking from her body.

The wind began to pick up, and she let out a quiet smile. Not as good as the air conditioning, but it's still a fantastic blessing whenever the wind cools me off like this, she thought happily, though her mind kept going back to that couple. What I wouldn't give to have beaten that idiot to a pulp though!

Lifting up Chikorita's capsule, she let out a sinister smirk. "Once I've built up my team, any jerks like her trying to bully anyone in my prescience are going to be in for a real rough time," she swore. "And you're going to play an important part in that."

She then sighed and closed her eyes. "Just promise me that you'll train hard and protect the trainer who ultimately ends up with you, alright?" she whispered, nuzzling the capsule against her forehead affectionately before placing the ball inside her purse.

Keeping her gaze just slightly down, she worked her way though the roads, ending at her first stop. "Alright, I'll buy a bite to eat and get something for little Chikorita while I'm at it," she mused, walking into a mart.

"Show me the bag," the clerk growled.

Sighing, she did, revealing her id card, pokeballs and Chikorita's capsule. They always do this, no matter what mart I go into the falsely believe that I'm a shoplifter just because my clothes aren't all fancy clean like everyone else... she moaned inwardly, but kept her expression neutral.

"Oh, okay you're just starting out then, no idea how an urchin like you managed to become a trainer, but...go ahead and shop," the store clerk shrugged, clearly not happy about a homeless girl in his shop.

Aacob stifled a sigh, trying not to snap back as she took her possessions and with great strain went to pick up what she wanted to buy. The nerve of that guy! She ranted as she grabbed a potion, an MRE, and a three day supply of Chikorita food, before going up to the counter and paying with coins, something she had learned to do very quickly.

"Hmm..." the clerk mumbled, giving her the change and deliberately shorting her a few hundred yen, but Aacob didn't protest, as much as she begrudged the loss. I cannot wait to get you fired you scumbag, she muttered, making a note of his name and once she was out of the store she jotted it down in her notebook. It was scratchy, and worn, but it included all of the names who had wronged her that she knew of.

One of these days, I'll unleash a reign of terror on these idiots, she smiled to herself, before entering a park and filling an old water bottle from a water fountain, before preparing her MRE. She let Chikorita out.

"Chika?" The green plant-like dinosaur sniffed her.

"Here's your portion," Aacob smiled, giving her a bowl filled with the required food. It was kind of soft pellets that felt and smelt more like an weird mix of natural plant growth starter, mycelium, and cornbread of all things. That's an odd combination, though it does smell pretty good, she concluded. Not what I'd want to eat, but still...

"Chika!" the little green dino smiled happily, eating the bowl while Aacob quietly ate her mre. Been a while since I had one of these, but since I can't go back to where that little shack was...yeah...

"Chika?"

Aacob looked at the green creature, who was giving her a confused look. "The professor's just loaning you to me to complete a task for him, you'll have to wait a while longer before receiving your permanent trainer, okay?" Aacob explained.

The Chikorita nodded and laid down. Aacob gave it a few pets before returning it to it's Pokeball, rising up and emptying the trash before making her way back outside of town.

It was dusk by the time she had made it to the edge of New bark town, but she let out a quiet smile. "Alright..." she whispered, gazing around the forest, before entering. Now to take the beaten off trail...she mused.

Once she stepped in, she gazed around, keeping a close eye out for any sign of the particular pokemon she was looking for. Gotta keep an eye out for spider webs, that'll be a clue that I'm on the right track. Just gotta remember to avoid the evolved form, they have a tendency to tie people up and leave them there, something about their poison not being as effective on people so to speak, she reminded herself. Not that you'd wanna be stung by it...

You know, it's nice...walking in the moonlight like this...Aacob smiled to herself as she began to enjoy the cool of the night. She gazed at her bare arms and smiled at the moonlight shining off of it, giving her skin a nice material glow.

No self-righteous bitch with a giant fire-dog chasing you off just because you walk past her house for sale, one she stole none the less...no...don't think about...A sound soon interrupted her thoughts, the one she was looking for.

"Spinarak! Spin spin...so..."

"Perfect!" Aacob smirked, grabbing Chikorita's Pokeball and unleashing the green dino. "Mind helping me out with catching him?" she asked.

"Chika!" The green dino nodded enthusiastically, before charging at the spider like insect, knocking it off it's tree.

"Great work, tackle it again!" Aacob growled enthusiastically.

Obliging, the green dino practically knocked the bug out.

"Alright!" Aacob smiled, throwing one of her three capsules, the ball barely shaking before the indicator light turned off. "Thanks Chikorita, you're the best!" Aacob smiled as she petted it on the back.

"Chika!" the dino gave it the equivalent of a Chikorita thumbs up. However, before they could do anything else, a swooshing notice ran toward them, knocking Chickorita off it's feet.

"Chikorita, are you okay?" Aacob gasped, realizing that they had attracted the attention of a Hoothoot.

"Chikari," the dino moaned, before rushing forward talking the bird.

"Be sure to dodge it's pecks, alright!" Aacob called out.

"Chi!" It dodged the first two pecks, retaliating with a tackle of it's on, before one hit, sending Chikorita flinching.

Aacob simultaneously threw one of her two remaining capsules while returning Chikorita, before hiding in one of the bushes. Watching the ball sake furiously, she frowned as she as almost sure that it was going to escape.

But it didn't. The ball stopped moving, and after about two minutes of waiting in anticipation, Aacob crawled out of the bushes and grabbed the capsule. "You really annoy me already, but I always thought that Noctowl are cute, so it's fine with me. Chikorita on the other hand...you did well. You deserve a good long rest" She smiled fondly as she returned both capsules into her purse and ran out of the forest, sighing happily before making her way along the road to Cherrygrove city.

But she quickly found herself growing tired. Gotta find a good place to rest, she noted, before spotting some bushes. It;s not all that good, but it's sheltered enough, she muttered as she laid down, tucking in her purse protectively as she curled up and quickly found herself falling asleep.

The morning sunlight caused Aacob to wake up with a start, and she jolted upwards, gazing around in confusion. "Oh..right..." she blushed as she remembered yesterday's events, borrowing Chikorita, being chased by that Arcanine, and catching both Spinarak and Hoothoot last night.

I guess that it's time that we got a move on... she grumbled, checking her bag, relief washing over her. Glad nothing was stolen...not that there's much to steal, she grumbled, before guilt began to wash over her. No...there is three precious Pokemon in here...and one of them isn't even mine... losing any of them would be a tragedy.

She then took out Hoothoot's ball and released him. "Sorry about last night," she whispered as the bird gazed at her, before walking over and nuzzling her leg.

"Awe..." Aacob smiled, before she also released her Spinarak. The bird and the bug gazed at each other, before nodding, the spider crawling on one shoulder and the owl landing on the other, nesting themselves comfortingly.

She then release Chikorita. "You might not be my starter, but you are in my care," Aacob smiled, petting the leaf-dino on the head and getting a friendly "Chicka" out of it, before she rose up and began walking. Kind of awkward having an owl and a giant spider on my shoulders, but it's comforting as well, Aacob smiled.

"Would you look at that," a guy smiled as he passed by, a younger man at this side. "Pay attention son, that's a trainer who knows how to treat her Pokemon right," he added.

Aacob had to let out a blush once she realized that he viewed her as a role model for his son. He has no idea how maus damn aggressive I get sometimes, she mused, but allowed herself a small bit of a internal satisfaction at the praise.

Before long Hoothoot had flew down and was hopping beside her, Spinarak had weaved itself a small sleeping bag around the girl, and Chikorita had asked to go back in his ball, which Aacob obliged. She glanced over at some pokemon watching her from the ridge, but decided that it wasn't worth trying to catch anymore at the moment.

Two pokemon is going to be hard enough on the finances, she mused to herself, glancing at where she thought Hoothoot was still following her only to flinch when she saw that it was no longer there.

Gasping, she saw that it was engaged in combat with a Pidgey which had tried to charge at her, and was mercilessly pecking at it. The bird pokemon let out a bloodcurdling screech at as the owl nicked him really good.

"That's enough, return!" Aacob screeched, recalling her Hoothoot to it's ball, before gazing at the bird in pity as it gazed at her, clearly stunned that she made no attempt to catch it. "Well go on, scram," Aacob muttered sourly, returning Spinarak before he could start anything and walking off, glancing back to see the bird hopping into the bushes on one foot.

"I know you were trying to protect me Hoothoot, but next time if you can get away with just scaring them off, please just do that," Aacob whispered as she held up it's pokeball, before sighing and walking over to a still puddle. Gazing at her, she took the old comb she had and strengthened her hair out a bit.

After a bit of gazing at the puddle, she mentally replaced her image with that of the bitch who sicked her Arcanine on her yesterday, and shuddered. "I'm nothing like her...and yet...after what Hoothoot did to that Pidgey..." she flinched as a ball splashed in the puddle, making her shoes a bit muddy.

"So...sorry!" a girl gasped, slowing down from her jog.

Aacob picked up the ball and shook the water off, before passing it to the girl. "No harm done, now you go and have fun alright?"

"Would...you like to join us?" a boy asked.

I would...but...Aacob let out a quiet smile. "I appreciate the officer, but I'm kinda on an errand and I need to make it to Cherrygrove by nightfall," she admitted.

"You should make it there by this evening at a steady pace then," the boy smiled, before gazing at the girl. "Come on Taeko, bet you can't throw it a hundred meters!"

"Ha! Hatsu, you're the one who can't throw it more than a hundred meters," the girl scoffed playfully.

"Can too sis!" he growled.

Aacob watch them take off and began their game from a distance, noticing how the girl had amber eyes, and brown hair, and that she was sporting a sleeveless shirt and child's sports shorts, where as the guy had on a tee shirt and blue-jean shorts. Although he had on shorter hair, he looked very similar to her, but with more masculine features, if you could call it that at his age. Wish I had a family like that, she mused, before noticing that two adults where watching both the kids, while keeping a somewhat weary eye on her.

That's when she noticed that she was in a small park. Well, best get going, she mused, before walking off, glancing back at the family. I wonder what kind of trainers they'd make? She wondered to herself.

She soon found herself walking along a dirt road, with various low quality houses doted along the way. Wonder if I could ever save up for one of these places? Though even a low quality apartment would be better than sleeping out in the old shack, though that is better than sleeping out in the bushes like last night.

She let out a hum. As long as it is nowhere near New-bark town...and this place might be a tad too close for comfort... she added to herself.

After about an hour of walking, she came upon a rural store. "Oh great, time to get falsely accused of shoplifting again..." she muttered to herself, but decided to enter anyways. Gotta buy these little guys some food...

However, to her surprise the shopkeeper made no attempt to check her purse, and she couldn't help but smile. Ya know, it's real nice to be able to enter a mart and not be accused of stealing, she told herself as she picked up some everyday bug-sap and bird food. It's not quite as healthy as the dedicated species food, but it'll do for now. Gonna cost me nearly everything just to feed us...

She shook her head. I'm a trainer now. I can make enough to pay for these little guy's food, and as for me...there is a lot of wild edibles I can live off of, she told herself, though she still bought herself three MREs just in case. Arriving to the counter, the clerk smiled at her. "Good morning young miss, did you find everything alright?"

Aacob smiled. "Y...yes sir," she noted as she unloaded her shopping cart.

"Is...everything alright miss?" the clerk asked, his eyes showing nothing but kindness.

"It's just..." Aacob paused. "You are the first shopkeeper to have ever treated me with kindness, all the others I went to in New Bark town accused me of stealing just because of my less then pristine attire, and they'd often short-change me too. Had to actually use Yen coins instead of paper dollars after three of them falsely accused me of using counterfeit money, the police really grilled them on that, but..."

"Ultimately let them off with a verbal warning?" The cashier asked as he scanned her items. "Yeah, New Bark towns is one of them rot towns as I like to call it. Anyways that'll be three thousand and five hundred yen," he added.

Paying up, Aacob smiled as he handed her the receipt. "Sorry if I unloaded a bit back there," she apologized, an embarrassed tone echoing in her voice.

"It's no problem miss...lots of people hate New Bark town, even if the propaganda tries to over paint it as a rural paradise," the clerk smiled.

As Aacob exited the store, she gazed ahead, determination filling her eyes. "Alright, time to get started," she smiled as she released her Pokemon.

They gazed at her, watching as she prepared their meals, and dug in. Smiling, Aacob began to boil the mre, this one being mac and cheese. After about ten minutes, the hot water packed had done it's job, and she took out the included spoon and began to eat.

Not too bad, but could be better, she mused to herself, managing to swallow the less then stellar food. Then again this is Unovan army ration surplus, only good for another year or so, hence why it tastes bad but is so cheep.

Her pokemon had finished eating and gathered around her, Hoothoot resting in her lap, with Chikorita and Spinarak resting next to her legs. Guess I could take an extended break...Aacob mused, deciding to enjoy the moment for a good hour.

It's nice having friends too...she smiled, petting her Hoothoot absentmindedly. The owl cooed in happiness, causing Aacob to let out a small laugh.

A few minutes later she felt something gently pull her wrist and glancing to her left she saw Spinarak had wrapped her wrist in a web and pulled it from Hoothoot to it's body. "Guess that you want some attention too huh Spinarak," she chuckled, and the spider de-latched it's web as it got what it wanted.

That went for a good minute until Chikorita nudged her right thigh. "I haven't forgotten about you Chikorita," Aacob laughed, using her right hand to pet the plant-dino. It let out a happy cry in response.

Gazing up at the skies, Aacob let out a happy sigh. I'm away from that awful town, and I have good friends by my side, life is much better. Going out as a trainer is the best decision I've ever made.
