Hey there, my fellow writers and readers; I hope you're all doing great with your stories, of course. Well, here's a new AU Cobra Kai story I cooked up one day. In it, while at the Homecoming Dance held in the gym at West Valley High, my OC (whom I named Selena Martinez in loving memory of Selena Quintanilla-Perez (April 16, 1971 — March 31, 1995)) is irritated with her so-called 'date' Jack Stefano, so she goes to the library; while there, she finds a great book to read, as well as a certain student with a Mohawk. And that's just the beginning.

Basically inspired by this part from the Tumblr fanfic scenario titled "The Warning Signs [2/2]" by justauthoring:

"Until Josh is a complete dick, it turns out, and ditches you for his stupid friends five minutes into the after party. He'd refused to dance with you all night, as well, and you're honestly ready to just leave at that point."

Disclaimer: Geniuses Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg own Cobra Kai. I own the fanfics I cook up from time to time.

In the Library

Life can take your dreams and turn them upside down
Friends will talk about you when you're not around
Reality can really cut you down to size
But don't ever lose that light in your eyes
Don't ever lose that light in your eyes.

People make you promises they'll never keep
Soon you'll know why people say talk is cheap
And life resembles one big compromise
But don't ever lose that light in your eyes

~LeAnn Rimes, The Light in Your Eyes

It was the night of the Homecoming dance in the gym at West Valley High School. Almost all the other students were on the dance floor having a good time; some were waltzing, while others were standing around chatting. One student, however, was sitting alone.

A sigh flying from her lips, Selena Martinez, sitting in the chair up against the wall in the gym, smoothed down the front of the lovely ice-blue dress she'd picked out to wear for the dance.

For her, it didn't really seem to matter that much — until everything changed for the worse before getting better, and on tonight of all nights, too.

Basically for her, tonight had started out as a tiny list full of disappointments. And that, she realized, was how reality sometimes was compared to how she'd imagined the Homecoming dance would go: a great date who accepted her invitation to dance with him, introducing her to his friends and treating her like the princess she was.

At the top of said list? Her so-called 'date' Jack Stefano. She'd decided he'd simply asked her to the Homecoming dance out of pity — partly because nobody else had even thought to ask her, and because he felt sorry for her. Unfortunately, he'd turned out to be the exact opposite of the prince she'd imagined him to be like as soon as they'd walked into the gym where the dance was being held.

When he went to go chat with a group of guys he called his friends only five minutes after they'd arrived at the dance, he ditched her instead of asking her if she'd like to meet them. Also, no matter how many times she'd asked, he stubbornly refused to dance with her all night in the gym instead of accepting her invitation to waltz romantically on the dance floor, as well as chat with her during the fast songs like she'd imagined he'd do only a few hours before they'd come to the dance.

As a result, her emotions all ready to spill out in tears, Selena was honestly ready to leave the gym by herself and find somewhere else to go at that point. With that thought in mind, she got up from her chair, shrugged her shoulders and shook her head sadly before turning on her heel and stepping over to the gym doors that led to the hallway, and away from Jack, his friends and their other peers.

Well, what do you think so far? Nice feedback is highly appreciated, of course.
