Chapter 2 interview
(Morning. 09:30am.)
Gumball walked through the corridors, huge and white. With some frames and awards on the walls.
"That company looks pretty... important." Gumball looks around, admiring every corner of the company.
Gumball continues walking through the corridors until he sees some people coming out of a specimen room. The people are wearing white lab coats and face masks. The people walk quickly while carrying some briefcases.
"Okay... now, where do I go?" Gumball mutters, looking around until he sees a table with a woman working at it. "I think that's where..."
Gumball walks over to the woman working. The woman, who has fluffy hair, puppy ears on top of her head and little whiskers on her cheeks (she looks like a poodle.) lets out a tired sigh as she sees the boy approaching. She settles into her office chair and looks at the boy.
"What can I do for you?" The woman speaks in a frustrated tone.
"Ah... hello!" Gumball looks a little uncomfortable. "And that I've come for the internship interview." Gumball says and hands over the resume he's already filling out.
"Let's see..." The woman takes the resume and begins to read it. "Could you give me your name, please?"
"Oh, yes. I'm Gumball. Gumball Watterson." Gumball introduces himself to the girl.
"Watterson? Are you Nicole Watterson's son?" The woman asks while arching an eyebrow.
"Ah, yes. Yes, I'm Nicole Watterson's eldest son." Gumball says a little confused.
"Well..." The woman puts her resume aside and looks at Gumball with a happy expression. "Well, Mr. Watterson. I'll ask you to walk down the corridor to the right, take the elevator to the third floor and enter the door at the end of the corridor." The woman spoke in a calm, sweet tone of voice.
"Ahh... Okay..." Gumball is surprised by the woman's change of attitude, but decides to obey.
Gumball, obeying the woman's orders, walks through the corridors until he reaches an elevator. Pressing the up button, he waits for the elevator. After a few seconds of waiting, he enters the elevator and presses the button for the third floor and waits for it to arrive.
"Ouch, ouch... if I don't get this stage my hand is going to be a beast!" Gumball thinks, looking nervous as he waits.
With the sound of a bell, Gumball realizes that he has reached his destination. Gumball reluctantly exits the elevator and begins to walk down the corridor. A relatively large corridor with only a single door at the end of it, he reaches the door and knocks, he waits.
"Come in." A firm, calm voice says from inside the room.
Gumball reluctantly opens the door and enters the office. He sees a checkered office with several frames and awards he's never seen before in his life. Gumball looks at the desk in front of him and sees the chair turned away from him.
"Ah... hello?" Gumball asks.
"Yes." The chair turns, revealing a pale man wearing glasses, who strangely has two angel wings around his head. "Sit here, please." The man indicates a chair in front of him.
"C-right..." Gumball looks nervous looking at the man, but he obeys and sits down in the chair in front of him.
"All right." The man rests his elbows on the table while cupping his hands in front of his mouth (Kind of like Gendo Ikari.) "Tell me, why should I hire you?"
"What?" Gumball is confused, but when he sees the serious face of the man in front of him, he swallows. "Yeah, well... I'm someone responsible!"
"Hmm..." The man arches an eyebrow at the boy.
"And... I'm very collective! I can work well in a team." Gumball speaks proudly. A clear lie, everyone knows that.
"E?" The man questions further.
"And... it's ... e..." Gumball gets more nervous. "I'm good at being responsible?" Gumball says, giving the man a nervous smile.
"Ahhh..." The man sighs and settles back in his chair. "...Hired."
"Well, if you don't want me... wait, what?" Gumball wonders.
"It's not like we have a lot of choices. So, you're hired." The man speaks bluntly.
"So that means..." Gumball says, still processing the man's words.
"Yes, you're hired to work at B.O.A.R.D." The man says to the cat boy.
"That's it!" Gumball shouts excitedly, getting up from his chair and doing a little dance.
"Hooray!" The man coughs, drawing the boy's attention.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" Gumball quickly returns to his seat. "So, what's my job? Watch the corridors? Research dinosaurs? Do crazy experiments?"
"Gumball Watterson. What we talk about here must be kept completely confidential. Understood?" The man speaks in a firm tone of voice.
"Yes, understood!" Gumball salutes like a soldier.
"Ahh..." The man sighs and picks up a briefcase, placing it on the table as he looks at it.
"What's in that case?" Gumball asks.
"Gumball Watterson, before I reveal to you what's in that case, you must guard that secret with your life, is that understood?" The man speaks firmly.
"Ahh... right." Gumball agrees confusedly.
"Well..." The man takes a deep breath, concentrating on what he's about to say.
About 10,000 years ago, mystical creatures called Undeads hovered around the world. With all of them facing each other in a great tournament so that the last survivor would become the Superior Undead. And with all the power he had from the other Undeads, he would have the power to subjugate all the existing races, but they were unable to end the war. With the emergence of humanity, they ran into problems. The humans managed to defeat the Undeads, but as they are immortal beings, the only way to stop them was to seal them into castes. And for a long time the Undeads were no problem for humanity and remained sealed away, but about 6 months ago the seals were broken and about 53 Undead escaped and came here to Elmore. And since we from B.O.A.R.D are responsible for protecting the seals, we decided to come here to solve these problems, before this tournament starts again and the Undead start fighting and hurting the people of Elmore.
"...What a lame bedtime story." Gumball says.
"IT'S NOT A BEDTIME STORY!" The man shouts in frustration. But he calms down straight away. "Look, kid, we didn't want this to happen either, but you're our only option."
"What do you mean, the only option?" Gumball asks.
The man looks at the case and opens it, showing something like a compartment and a card with a beetle on it, and the symbol of swords on the beetle.
"What's that?" Gumball asks.
"That's the Rider System. It's designed to seal the Undead and be able to use their powers based on their sealing cards." The man explains.
"That's still very hard to believe." Gumball crosses his arms.
"You've heard the rumors of strange monsters, haven't you?" The man asks. "When they started acting up, we didn't have time to think and we needed you right away."
"That's something terrible..." Gumball realizes what the man has said. "Wait, what do you mean me? Why me?" Gumball asks in surprise.
"In short: the Rider System needs to be compatible with the user. We tested several blood types for compatibility and the only one that was compatible was that of your mother, Nicole Watterson."
"You got my mother involved in this?" Gumball asks, sounding a little annoyed.
"Calm down, kid." The man reassures Gumball. "We wouldn't involve your mother in these matters, because most of this company has great respect for your mother."
"Really?..." Gumball looks down thoughtfully.
"Since your mother's DNA was a match, we only had two options for the Rider System user." The Man says.
"Me or my sister, right?" Gumball asks with a serious look on his face.
"I'm really sorry, kid. But our options are at risk. If we don't sort this out now, all will be lost." The man explains.
"Save the world?..." Gumball looks down at his hands as he thinks about his answer.
"You can still refuse if you want, we can spend some more time looking for another user for the Rider e- System."
"No!" Gumball says, cutting the man off. "I accept responsibility." Gumball speaks with determination.
"Are you sure?" The man asks.
"Yes. I..." Gumball remembers his family and his friends from school. "If I'm the only one who can act against these... these Undeads. Then I will!"
"All right!" The man stands up and holds out his hand to Gumball. "Shall we have a contract?"
"Yes. We'll have a contract." Gumball reaches out and shakes the man's hand.
"By the way, the salary will be 250 dollars a week." The man speaks quietly.
"WHAT!?" Gumball shouts in disbelief at what he has just heard.
[...]
"That's it, your registration is ready!" The Poodle woman says to Gumball.
"Thank you very much Miss Carol!" Gumball thanks her as he raises his hands and sees his Driver and the Chance card in her hands.
"I've already put my number into your cell phone. So when an Undead is located you will receive an alert on your cell phone and its location." Carol explains.
"Right." Gumball puts his Driver and his Chance in his pockets. "Thank you very much indeed, Miss Carol."
Gumball turns to leave, but feels something grab his arm.
"Gumball..." Carol speaks with a little concern in her voice. "I know it's the only way, but... be careful." Carol looks at Gumball with a worried look.
"Hu... don't worry, Miss Carol!" Gumball reassures her. "Those Undeads will be no match for me!"
Gumball boasts, while Carol laughs lightly at the boy's words.
"All right, but go safely." Carol eases up a little.
"Right!" Gumball starts to walk away. "Bye Miss Carol!"
Gumball walks through the corridors as he says goodbye to Carol. Carol smiles as she sees Gumball off, but she still feels worried.
[...]
(12:00pm.)
Gumball knocks on the door of his house and enters, seeing all his family sitting on the sofa waiting for him.
"What's up?" Darwin says, sounding slightly worried.
"Brrr..." Gumball sighs. "I've been hired."
"WIEHH!" Anais, Darwin, Nicole and Ricardo celebrate as they snack on confetti and party.
"Guys, what's all this about?" Gumball asks confused.
"Now it won't just be me who pays the bills!" Nicole jumps and twirls around the room.
"Now we can go out and have fun together!" Darwin says excitedly as he hugs Gumball.
"Now you're growing up, my boy!" Ricardo approaches Gumball and gives him a tight hug.
"Ouch, ouch! Easy there!" Gumball feels his body being crushed by his father's embrace.
"Guys, guys! Calm down!" Anais says, drawing everyone's attention. "Gumball may have got a job, but that doesn't mean he'll earn much. It's only an internship." Anais explains to everyone.
"Actually, I've been hired full time." Gumball says.
"Full-time?" Nicole asks in surprise.
"That can get a bit complicated, but what exactly will you have to do?" Anais asks.
"Well..." Gumball thinks about how to explain his job. "I'm basically called in to solve problems that they need help with." Gumball puts it simply.
"Yeah... it's not too bad a job." Darwin says thoughtfully.
"And how are they going to call you?" Ricardo asks.
"Look..." Gumball takes out his cell phone and shows Carol's number. "This is Carol. She's the B.O.A.R.D. receptionist and she'll contact me when necessary." Gumball explains to the others.
"So it's relatively easy..." Ricardo thinks aloud.
"And how much do you earn?" Nicole asks curiously.
"250 dollars a week." Gumball says bluntly.
"250?!" Everyone screams in disbelief at what they've just heard.
(End of chapter.)
Note: Here it is! Gumball will now be Kamen Rider Blade, and you may wonder "Why were they impressed by the 250 dollars a week?" It's simple. Nicole earns just over 900 dollars a month on the cartoon.
That's all for today, see you in the next chapter!
