Chapter 5

Christian climbed into the passenger seat of life squad and quickly fastened his seat belt. The paramedic started the vehicle but did not put it in drive. The minutes ticked by and Christian was growing more anxious worrying about Ana.

"Why the hell are we still sitting here?" he bellowed.

The driver jumped in his seat then shook his head and informed Christian. "Sir, we will not be heading out until I am given the all clear from the back. The other paramedics are still stabilizing the patient for transfer to the hospital."

They sat there for what seem like eternity to Christian before a light on the dash turned from red to green. The driver put the vehicle in drive, hit a switch on the dash that set the sirens blaring and pulled away from the accident scene. It was surreal driving through traffic. Christian want to scream at every vehicle that did not yield to the ambulance. People did not seem to care that they were impeding getting an injured person to the care they critically needed.

"Is it normal for so many people to hinder your driving?" Christian asked the driver.

"Mr. Grey, this is nothing. Traffic is light today and we are making great time. If traffic is heavy or it's rush hour there would be three times as many people not yielding to us."

Christian was never so glad to see lights and signs for the emergency entrance for Seattle Grace Hospital. As soon as the vehicle was put in park, Christian was out the door and around to the back of the squad. When the doors opened he saw that Ana now had an IV drip and an oxygen mask covering her face. He backed away enough not to be in the way of the paramedics but stayed as close as possible to the stretcher as they made their way toward the building. The hospital staff rushed out to meet the stretcher approaching the emergency room doors.

One of the Paramedic began his report to the hospital staff. "Patient's name is Anastasia Steele, age 22. She was unconscious when we arrived on the scene of a two-car accident. She was the driver of a vehicle that took a major impact to the driver's side of the car. All airbags were deployed, and she was wearing her seat belt. Her blood pressure has been steady at 120 over 75. We did not find any medical alert jewelry on her person or in her belongings."

Once inside the hospital doors he heard his name shouted, "Christian!"

He turned to his left to spot his mother standing off to the side. He made his way over to her and she began checking him over starting with his blood covered hands. "Are your hurt anywhere?" she questioned her son.

Looking down at his hands he replied, "It's not my blood Mother. I was not in the car with Anastasia at the time of the accident. Any blood you see on me is hers."

His Mother let out a sign of relief. "While I'm relieved you are okay, what can you tell us about your friends' health and family? Any information you can provide will aid in us providing the best care for her. Do you know of any medical conditions she may have? Does she take any medications, or does she have a medication allergy?"

"Taylor should be here shortly with contact information for her family. The only medication she is currently on is Depo-Provera. She received her last shot from Dr. Green almost 3 months ago and is due for another shot next week. Her only health condition is she is borderline anemic and she has no known medication allergies"

His Mother raised her eyebrows at his knowledge of her birth control method and knowledge of her shot schedule. "Christian, just who is this young woman to you?" she inquired softly.

"Mother, there really isn't time to bring you up to speed on my relationship with Anastasia. Just know that today I have discovered that she means the world to me. Please help her." He begged.

As he finished his confession to his mother, Taylor appeared by his side. "Mr. Grey, I have all the information you requested."

"Mother can you check on Anastasia. I should call her Father and I'd like to be able to give him an accurate description of her condition."

"I'll go check on her and relay the medical information you gave me to the staff."

As soon as his mother was out of hearing range Christian asked. "Do we know who was driving the other Audi or where the driver went?"

"Sir, the car is registered to Leia Williams, but the preliminary background check has her current address as New York City. Welch has a man in route to the address there in hope of making contact with her. Witnesses at the scene gave police a description the driver of the other Audi as being an older woman."

"Have someone check in where Elena Lincoln is this evening?" Christian ordered.

"Welch already has someone looking into her Sir. You may want to step in the restroom and clean up some while we wait to hear from your mother." He said pointing to restroom ten feet from where they were standing.

Nodded to Taylor and made his way over the restroom and when he returned his Mother was standing next to Taylor giving him an update.

"She needs emergency surgery on her shoulder and they believe she may have some internal bleeding they need to address as well. We need her father contract information ASAP to get consent to operate."

"Bring me whatever forms need signed. I have a Medical Power of Attorney for Anastasia. After I sign the forms I will contact Mr. Steele and make arrangements to get him here as soon as possible."

His mother was again agasted at her son's relationship but left to get the attending doctor and the requited paperwork.
