Author's Note & Disclaimer: Hey everyone, so we all know the drill right? I don't own anyone from the NaTM franchise, I only own my characters. I hope you all enjoy!
Cheers!
Ok so, fair warning, I've never been to university, I have gone to college (Office Administration & Dental Assisting), so I apologise now for the inaccuracies of it, but this is also a piece of fiction so...

Glancing down at the phone in her hand, Meadow grimaced, cursing under her breath as she raced through the campus grounds, trying to find exactly where she needed to go for her first day of orientation.
This is why she always woke up early to try and avoid these types of scenarios, however, it didn't help her in the slightest when it looked like she wasn't going to make it on time anyway.
Why couldn't she be better with directions?
Though, she supposed, it may have been useful if she had decided to use Google Maps instead.
Her lungs burned as she sprinted, her red curly hair bouncing out of its bun as she finally found the area that she needed to be in, and thanked whichever god was listening, that she was actually going to make it on time, and with a couple of minutes to spare.
Meadow glanced at the numbers above the doors, muttering to herself as she went down one hallway and down another, looking for the auditorium where all new students to the school were to be.
After a moment or two of panicked searching, her bright grey eyes landed on a set of double doors, where a sign was placed up to direct students to the area.
Once she stepped inside, she allowed herself a sigh of relief as she stepped to the side, removed her bag slightly to reach into the main pocket to grab her wallet and acceptance letter before zipping her bag up again.
Her eyes scanned the area she was in, groups of students were huddled around her here and there, others were say upon the bleachers, looking bored or dare she say, nervous. She stopped when her eyes caught sight of the welcome table near the exit door.
Making her way over, she accidentally walked into someone. "Oh, I'm so sorry! I need to pay attention to where I'm going."
The one she walked into was another young woman, probably a couple of years younger than her, with dark brown eyes and hair. The girl looked her up and down and shrugged, "It's a crowded place doll, no worries here." She paused, "You ain't from around here, are you?"
"Oh, uh, no. I'm from Canada."
"Get out of here! That's awesome."
"And you?"
"Born and raised in Houston, Texas."
"My name is Meadow."
"Carolee. What are you taking?"
"Dentistry. You?"
"Cardiology. With the intent on becoming a Cardiothoracic Surgeon."
"That's amazing! I'm sure you will." Meadow paused, "I personally would like to see about becoming an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon, but first, get experience as a dentist first."
Carolee gave Meadow a smile back, "And I am sure you will accomplish that too."
"Thanks. Oh, so I do have to go, sorry for cutting this short." Meadow started to walk away, stopped, turned and added, "I do hope we get to see each other again."
"I'm sure we will sweetheart. See you later."
And with that, Meadow got everything she needed and more while at the welcome table. She got to even meet the department head.
There was much information that she tried to retain, but she found it difficult, and when the day finally ended she let out a sigh of relief but then bit her lip when she started to second guess herself.
She was older than a lot of the students, being twenty-five years of age and starting university. She never did that before, she had gone to college to become a dental assistant, working a few years before working up the courage to apply for dental school.
And with the help of her friends, family, and colleagues at work, she preserved and now here she was.
In New York City.
Many, many kilometers away from home.
Homesickness settled into the pit of her stomach. She missed her parents, her friends, and her furry companions.
At least, she thought, it looked like she was beginning to make friends here on her first day. She hoped that it would continue to go up from there.
It was around five when she stepped foot off of the final bus before she started to walk to her apartment. She closed her eyes, feeling the sun hit her face. The warmth radiating. A small smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. Opening her eyes back up, her eyes scanned the areas around her.
The buildings that surrounded the area were massively large, in both height and width. She was from a small town, a town that the largest building was the kindergarten to grade twelve school that sat up away from the town.
As she continued her trek, Meadow's eyes caught sight of a building that she had only dreamed about going to since she first learned about it in ninth grade, a building, that even now, so many years later, still beckoned to her.
She felt drawn; pulled to it.
Meadow wanted to go there, but she stopped, knowing that it was nearing closing time, or it was already closed.
Maybe this weekend, she'd go.
With one
last glance, she continued past.
The Museum of Natural History soon behind her.
