"losing something you never had hurts even more..."
From the wrinkled and soft hands of the housekeeper slips a small envelope, violet remembered that morning when Dietfried departed whispering something in her ear and handing her that similar and mysterious envelope... violet looked up in surprise, her nervously jointed fingers hurried to open the envelope, and at the only 7 letters that drew a smile in her eyes.
"I will be back."
and those 7 words seemed the most beautiful letters, she found joy in that miserable but happy little piece of paper, though uncertainty flooded her days, for more letters from the captain never came again, but she would always have those words of hope.
so violet would be allowed to spend the ceaseless hours of each day in the captain's study, lying on the carpet, wandering her gaze on those 7 letters printed on that little piece of paper. waiting, waiting for him.
"There is beauty in the ashes of a heart that burned for love."
until that morning, violet woke up to a gloomy and dark day, full of water running like rivers through the windows, violet went downstairs to the study, but she met the maids, butlers and housekeepers, claudia appeared in their midst with a countenance that made violet's skin crawl.
Claudia handed violet that morning's newspaper, violet looked down at the front cover, her eyes widened as the newspaper fell under her feet, a black and white image of the great and splendorous ship that commanded captain Dietfried bouganvillea's fleet, but the ship was sinking.
violet's knees trembled and betrayed her stability making her fall to the ground, where her mind slowly processed what she was reading, claudia bent down and taking her by the shoulders lifted her up like a feather, violet took refuge in her arms and sinking her face against her chest she begged for answers.
"violet, nobody knows anything about Dietfried", and once again her protected world shattered into pieces, and the image of Gilbert's ghost appeared again in the window of her mind, something was breaking inside her again, like when a glass falls to the ground, that's how her whole body felt and inside something was screaming into the void.
Claudia decided to stay in the bouganvillea house to watch that violet did not do anything reckless, because there was nothing else to do but wait for news.
and there was no such bright place to turn to in times where darkness was what abounded, violet would curl up in her room and writhe on her sheets, as if that pain she felt was becoming physical.
"How brave you look, trembling in fear..."
... so passed the hours, days, and weeks of uncertainty, of twisted nights in battle with a new pain, a carriage was approaching, Violet had found shelter from her pain in that study in the middle of the huge couch, violet woke up with a scream from one of the housekeepers, she woke up hastily, the doors of the study opened wide and in front of her with her white suit and her braid to one side looked at her a rather badly wounded Dietfried, covered with bandages.
Before he could even utter a word, violet flew into his arms to sink into his chest.
"I said I'd be back" he uttered before his knees gave out, claudia and one of her guards grabbed him before he could fall.
the uncertainty was no longer so uncertain, the uncertainty had ceased.
