Chapter 4: People Talk

The Person Behind Creati: Who Is Yaoyorozu Momo?

Throughout the country she's known as 'Everything Hero: Creati.' Yaoyorozu Momo, 26, only daughter to business tycoon Yaoyorozu Hiroshi, the man who elevated the family name and business to a multi-billion yen enterprise in a short amount of time, and winner of businessman of the year five times in a row. His only daughter, Momo, is no stranger to the high life and the spotlight.

She attended the top hero academy U.A. through recommendation with the likes of another high class hero Todoroki Shōto. Part of the historic class that had been riddled with danger and villain attacks since their first year of hero training at U.A. Momo has risen to one of the nations top heroes. One of only four women in the top ten and the only woman in the top five, she's as versatile as her quirk Creation.

However, some might think differently of the young hero now that she's been caught up in a scandal where one of her own fans exposes her true nature behind her benevolent smile. Could there be more to how she made her way to rank so high on the national charts?

Tasuke Fuji, 26, only son of the current president of the Hero Public Safety Commission released an explosive video a few days ago detailing his first meeting with Creati three years ago. He details what can only be described as some sort of secret relationship that Creati now seems to deny ever happened. This has a lot of hero fans, Crerati fans and critiques alike making their opinions about the entire story known all over social media.

"It takes more than a pretty face and huge tits to be a hero. I bet daddy bought her that spot on the chart."

"If I become a villian I hope Creati's the one to arrest me. I wouldn't mind being restrained by that body."

"The only woman in the top five position? She probably had to bend over to various positions to get that far."

"I wouldn't want my daughter running around the city half naked like that, it's disgusting and sending a bad message to young girls wanting to be heroes. If she really cared about us she'd cover up more."

"There's no proof that what Tasuke says is true, why is everyone accepting it so fast?"

"She a spoiled princess. She's been rich her whole life. She doesn't know what it's like to struggle and work hard."

"I don't usually slut shame women but if she's showing that much skin all the time, then what else can I say?"

"You heard what that Tasuke guy said, plus he's the son of the Hero Commission President, he wouldn't lie about something like this. She's used her sex appeal to get on the charts now she's doing it to play with men's hearts. They should remove her. We've already got the big three: Deku, Dynamight and Shōto. Get the little girl out of the real men's club."

"This seems staged, pretty sure Tasuke is just a hurt fanboy who didn't get his way. Isn't he a rich-boy too?"

"I'm pretty sure she went under the knife to make her chest bigger, no way they're naturally that big. Is she trying to be a hero or a sex icon? She should come out and tell everyone the truth."

"This is why we should've had an all male top ten but standards drop for women empowerment or whatever, right?

"She should stick to magazine covers and fragrance ads, she'd make one hell of a pin-up girl."

"Creati I've got a BIG problem in my pants that needs solving."

"She looked better in high school, younger and a sexier body, now she's just average."

"How can people be this disgusting? It's only been four days and all these terrible comments about Momo are spreading like wildfire." Shōto angrily shoved his phone back in his pocket."

"I agree she doesn't deserve any of this but remember, this is Tasuke's ability at play here." Iida said from Todoroki's side, the two of them walking around the city on patrol.

"Iida, you don't honestly believe that every single comment is coming from people affected by Tasuke's quirk, do you?"

"Of course not. I'm well aware that opportunists will always exist. Some of these comments are coming from people who've wanted to say this for a long time but were too cowardly to do so. It makes sense for them to jump on this now but, I'm also saying that it isn't all of them."

"And I'm saying, I don't care which group they fall into. This is going way too far." Shōto looked around the street they were currently on, civilians walking up and down the street, entering and exiting shops, some on their phones, any one of them could be spreading all this hate towards his friend and he hated that he couldn't do much to stop it.

"This truly is awful." the new voice in the conversation caught both guy's attention.

"Uravity, you're on patrol here too?"

"No I actually came looking for you two specifically." the zero gravity hero replied, concern on her face.

"This situation is getting a lot bigger than any of us could've imagined." she fell in step with the two of them.

"How so?" Iida asked.

"Tasuke's goal was to single out Momo but, all this hatred online has taken on a life of its own. Now all of us women in the top ten are being pulled into this." Ochako took out her phone to show them the latest trend happening online.

"There's no way." Shōto exhaled and cold mist escaped his lips.

#NoWomenInMyTop10

Shōto clicked on the hashtag and read through the first few comments and they were just what he thought they'd be. The HPSC was being tagged in various posts calling for not only Creati but all the women in the top ten to be removed immediately.

"No one's tried to hurt you or anything right?" Shōto asked concerned.

"I knew the typical harassment messages were coming, Lizardy and Vine told me the same has happened to them too, but other than that no, no ones done anything, but I'm worried they'll try soon enough, especially if the Commission doesn't address this."

"If they do, it definitely won't be in Momo's favour. I'm sure Tasuke has run this by his father before implementing anything. It's all going according to that sickos plan."

"There's something else though, about his quirk—

Uravity was cut off by an explosion that happened the next street over. Four large muscular men with pink masks over their faces had just run from a jewellery store and taken a woman hostage, based on her uniform, she worked at said store. Two men had bags of stolen jewels and the third had a camera and was filming the whole thing.

"Where are your woman heroes now to save you now, huh?!" the supposed leader of this group held the woman by her hair and dragged her along to their getaway car. She locked eyes with Uravity, tears streaming down her face.

"Stop right there!" Uravity yelled, running to the scene, Iida and Shōto right behind her.

"Oh wow, a top ten woman actually showed up," the leader lifted his mask slightly, revealing only his mouth. "Nice of you to join us, number seven. And I see you brought some real heroes with you, Shōto and Ingenium."

"Let that woman go right now."

"Why don't you sit back, sweetheart, I wouldn't want to harm that pretty face of yours. I'd be more than happy to talk to the men behind you though."

Shōto and Iida's faces hardened, even listening to his patronising talk was disgusting.

Uravity took a deep breath and the scowl on her face vanished, replaced by a confident smile. "I'm glad you think my face is pretty, you can look at it all you want after you're face down on the ground when I've dealt with you."

"Oh yeah?" he released the woman and tossed her towards the group of heroes. Iida caught her before she hit the ground. "I'd like to see you try, baby."

The area had been cleared, the police had been called by one of the civilians and the crowd was being kept back. They were all clear to take down this team of misogynistic criminals. The other three members of the group also came forward to join their leader, the one with the camera was still recording, hoping to get Uravity's assumed defeat on record.

Iida and Shōto exchanged glances before Iida turned to leave with the woman to make sure she got the help she needed. Shōto, who had been standing in a combat position ready to intercept anything the group might do, suddenly stood upright and folded his arms.

The group looked confused and for a second Uravity glanced back.

"As if both of us are needed to take on small timers like you." Shōto shrugged his shoulders.

"Well, aren't you a gentleman? Letting her have this win cuz you feel bad for her."

"Not at all, I just personally want to see her make good on her threat and see you flat on the road. It'll be satisfying to see." Shōto smirked then walked off to the side.

"We'll see who's smiling after this—"

Something very sharp and moving quite fast swept past his face. Before he could even process what it was, the leader felt a cut on his cheek, that had been exposed when he'd lifted his mask earlier. A deflating sound caught his attention and all four men turned around to see the back tyres of their getaway car deflating. Shards of broken glass pierced them.

"Now that that's out of the way, shall we get started?" Uravity recalled her grappling hooks and stood ready to fight. Without giving them time to even take it in she'd used her quirk on the surrounding broken pieces of glass from the store window and sent them into the cars tyres, preventing their escape.

With a combination of her quirk and martial arts training Uravity dealt with the group quite quickly. She got in close and used their own weight against them and made especially sure to keep her word. The group of so called robbers did their best to overwhelm Uravity but all their efforts were in vain.

Tapping on the ground with his one free arm and crying out in pain from having the other pinned behind his back, the leader of the group had his cheek pressed hard on the road until the police came over to handcuff the group.

Just before the police led them away, Shōto gave one last satisfied glance to the leader before the group was taken away.

"That was very satisfying to watch." Shōto handed her a bottle of water.

Uravity chuckled, "That felt satisfying," she took a long drink of water before stopping to catch her breath. "If only it was this easy to deal with all of them."

"Uravity, you were saying something earlier about Tasuke's quirk before this commotion started." Iida had rejoined them.

"Huh?… oh yeah, I was talking about his quirk's reach. White Lie isn't as omnipotent as we thought, if anything, its lack of power is what makes it so dangerous. It's unpredictable."

"What do you mean?"

"Tasuke did all of this so everyone turns against Momo and he remains the only one left in her corner, right? In his own twisted way he believes he cares about her, so while getting her alone would help his chances, in his head at least, then why would he vilify the person he claims to care about? He couldn't have known things would get this serious, that all of us in the top ten would be targeted. What if the unthinkable happened and someone actually hurt Momo?" Uravity explained.

Shōto's heartbeat increased just at the mention of someone hurting her.

"No matter how desperate he is to get her, he wouldn't want that." she looked from Shōto to Iida.

"That means to a certain extent, he's not in control of his quirk, it's a gamble whenever he uses it." Iida mused, hand on his chin in thought.

"Which also means there's a possibility that he can be reasoned with, if he actually understood how much of a threat his powers were to Momo, he might be forced to end his little campaign early."

"But how do we get him to do that?"

"Leave that to me, I'll make him see reason." Shōto clenched his fist in determination.

Four long days that Momo's been at home doing her best to stay offline and not see any news about herself but it wasn't easy. Staying off her phone was one thing but when news channels on the tv talked about her, and newspapers had gone back into print just to have her on the front pages, these were a lot more difficult to ignore. There had been the occasional straggler that would wait by her building but since she lived on the top floor, people couldn't really get to her without actively trespassing.

It was just after ten p.m. when Momo had cleared the dishes from the living room and was cleaning up the kitchen but her mind was far away from her chores. How long did she have to keep doing this, how much more anger and judgememnt would she need to endure until Tasuke's influence finally wore off? If this was only four days, the remaining time was going to be even more difficult.

Just as she got ready for bed, Momo got into the blankets and turned on her lamp to do some reading when her phone rang. Surprise and a bit of annoyance shot through her at the thought of someone calling her so late.

"I'm glad you picked up, a little surprised you did though," the woman on the other end of the line chuckled.

"Oh Manami, it's you." Momo relaxed at the sound of her publicists voice. Manami Utada, known as one of the best publicists in the country, there was no bad PR she couldn't pull a client out of.

"You didn't think I'd let you go to bed without calling you at least once tonight did you?" Manami's footsteps echoed in the background of the office Momo knew she was in. It was rare that Manami actually went home on time, more often than not she was working late hours at her office.

"Blame a girl for hoping." Momo joked.

"Firstly, I'm sorry you've got someone as crazy as him as one of your 'fans.'"

"I'm surprised his quirk hasn't worked on you."

"Oh please, I've had that brat blocked on every social media account since I found out what he could do. Any information about him that comes out I get from a secondary source. Too bad most people aren't as equipped to do the same." Manami sounded just as tired as Momo felt.

"I know things have gotten worse these few days, how bad is it?" Momo asked before she could stop herself.

"Bad, hun." she shifted the phone from one ear to the other, "I've only gone through a few of these new posts and the comments so far are… vile to say the least. Everybody's got an opinion. This isn't going to be easy, but if you keep your head down, three weeks will pass by in no time."

"It's not that simple, I can't keep sitting at home for three weeks because of him. Crime isn't going to stop just because I'm in a tight spot." Momo brushed through her hair.

"Maybe you're not understanding me, the comments online are bad because they can't get to you in person. Do you have any idea what might happen if people like this and more cornered you while you're out saving the day? Things could get violent, you could get attacked. Hero pride aside—

"This isn't about pride, it's about keeping people safe." Momo winced at how harsh she'd sounded.

"And to do that, you need to be okay first." Manami sighed, "Momo, I know you're the self-sacrificial type, but how can you expect to make sure anyone is okay if you're not okay yourself? It doesn't have to be the entire three weeks, but just for a few more days at least, try to stay out of the spotlight please. I'm not just saying this as your publicist but as someone who cares about you, too. Let me take care of this."

Momo leaned back against the pillows and covered her eyes with her arm, "No promises, but I'll try." she hung up and put her phone on the bedside table.

She knew Manami was only looking out for her. When Momo first started out after creating her agency, it was Manami who really helped push her career and gather the start of her following. Manami had sorted out all sorts of situations, good ones and bad and Momo trusted her with her career. But this situation was going to be something neither one of them was prepared for.

Her ringtone interrupted her thoughts, Momo actually groaned. Who was calling now? She really should have turned her phone off. She reached over to grab it and whatever dread she'd felt immediately melted away when she picked up.

"I know I shouldn't be calling this late but I thought I'd check on you." Shōto's voice was smooth in her ear.

"And I was so close to turning off my phone without answering with the calls I've been getting." Momo sat up, feeling calmer as she spoke to him.

"Who else called you?"

"Manami just called, she's telling me things are looking even more grim."

"She's right, things have gotten worse."

"Manami suggested I stay off-grid for a while longer, until this blows over but I don't know if I can. And I don't want to sound like all this is getting to me, but if it's got both of you worried then I'm getting even more worried." for whatever reason, in the silence of her room, under the dimmed lighting of her bedside lamp, curled up in bed with her phone pressed to her ear, with Shōto on the other end listening intently, the seriousness of her situation hit her. "From the little I've seen—

"You've seen some of the stuff they're saying? Momo..."

"Shōto, it's not like I could avoid this indefinitely forever. I was trying to get some work done on my laptop when a few of those recommended news stories popped up, all of them about me. Just the headlines were harsh." she sounded defeated.

"I'm sorry you had to see that. That unbelievable piece of work really did it."

"I don't want to talk about him." her heart beat a little faster and she felt a lump in her throat. There was so much false information out there about her, and she had no way to properly defend herself against a quirk that manipulated people.

"Right, sorry." with the little she said, Shōto could tell she was holding back tears, she'd been quiet for too long, "You still there?"

"Yeah, I'm still here, I just… don't know what to say right now." she wiped away a single tear. She was glad they weren't video calling, the last thing she wanted was for him to see her cry. "How am I going to get through this?"

"We'll find a way. The people who really know you and care about you, we're not going anywhere. I'm not going anywhere."

"I know." it felt extremely reassuring to hear him say those words even if she already knew he'd always be there for her. It helped set her mind at ease.

"You should've seen Uravity today." he decided to change the subject, and explained the events of that afternoon without going into too much detail about how bad things were getting. He made sure to keep it to how awesome their friend was and by the end of the conversation Momo was smiling again.

When the two of them finally said their goodbyes and Momo turned off the lights and went to sleep, she did so with a little more comfort in her heart.

Unfortunately, however, the world never stops for anyone. Not even heroes.

While Momo slept away, the world had its way and it continued to be less than kind.

This took a while to write and rewrite but there was a lot to be covered since it'll set the ground work for what's to come. The struggles that Momo is going through are far from over unfortunately but stay tuned, things will get better (eventually).

Well that's it from me-
