[Dan's POV]
Dan heard some type of swishing sound, frowning in confusion. Then, his mind registered the familiar sound. The sound of someone stepping through a ghost portal. Which meant . . . new victims! He flew over the ruins of the town, finally spotting a man wearing a white shirt under a black suit along with pants and shoes. But the things that drew Dan's attention were the weapons the man wielded. This human was going to fight him!
Dan couldn't help but snicker at the thought. Anyone who dared to oppose him would eventually die, just like the rest of the resistance! However, as Dan studied this human, a strange sense of doubt clouded his mind. This was no ordinary human. He was dangerous! It was if Dan could sense this human radiating a deadly aura.
Big deal! Even Pariah Dark fell beneath Dan's utter power! Killing some idiot human would be easy!
With a leer, Dan blasted the human with an ecto-ray, expecting him to explode into pieces. However, there was a blur and Dan's ecto-ray hit an empty space where the human should've been. Meanwhile, the human was standing beside the crater, untouched and unfazed!
This was no human, Dan realized with momentary shock. This was a ghost! A microsecond passed and Dan's shock faded into sadistic amusement. But he'll still fall like all of the others!
Dan zoomed down at the man, expecting to maul him upon impact. However, the man merely grabbed the end of Dan's cape – a BIG MISTAKE! – and wrapped it around the ghost's fiery head. Dan began snarling like an animal, extending claws that his past self never had and swiping at nothing but air in a blind rage.
Dan's opponent easily grabbed him by the throat and punched him two times; one in the throat and the other in the face. The ghost cried out in shock and rage while he fell backwards and threw his cape back. Dan's eyes flared with murder as he focused on the man before him. And yet, in the midst of his wrath, there was also the glimmer of amusement.
Dan never had an opponent like this. Someone who's skill and daring – yet foolish – nature matched even Valerie's. It made him smile with sadistic joy. He might've finally found his match.
[John's POV]
John frowned at the ghost's evil smirk. It was as if he was enjoying this battle. He could've killed John the moment he saw him. However, when John retaliated, the ghost decided to pause . . . and enjoy the duel between them.
To John's surprise, the ghost began to speak: calm, yet utterly sadistic. "You're good, human. Powerful. Skilled. You even dared to touch my cape. Anyone who tried that would've been killed instantly." Somehow, there was the slightest hint of admiration in the ghost's dark voice.
However, John raised an ecto-covered gun and shot the ghost twice in the chest, earning painful smirks. "Uh huh," he responded flatly.
The ghost stared down at the wounds in his chest before leering at John. "Nice try, but I don't have a heart. Not anymore."
"All the more reason to take you out." John shot the ghost a few more times, failing when he turned intangible. There was a blur, and soon John found himself on his back, his hands pinned at his sides. He scowled back at the leering phantom.
"So, why don't we start over?" the ghost asked mock-sweetly. "My name is Dan. And yours?"
John glared back at "Dan", who clarified, "Your name, human."
Apparently, not everyone knew who John Wick was. Amongst assassins, he was a legend, someone to be feared and respected above all. Amongst other humans, he was just another face. Now, his name was mentioned by even the most unlikely of people (or creatures). But he wanted to let this ghost knew exactly who he was dealing with. To cause the same spark of fear – the same "oh" – even in "people" such as these.
"John Wick," the assassin finally stated coldly.
