-The Enchanter of Fairy Tail-
Chapter 12: Awoken
Year: X752. 32 years till Canon begins.
Cade POV:
As me and Master Makarov walked towards the East Forest to take the shortcut to Porlyusica's house, I chose to ask him a question.
"Master, I spoke to Porlyusica last time I was at her house meditating and she said something interesting to me." Makarov turned to look at me.
"Oh? What was it?" He wondered as we made our way up the hills to the forest.
"Well she said that she was a member of Fairy Tail a few years back and that she formed a team with you and a few others. Is that right?" I asked curiously, somewhat hoping that this wouldn't be a sore subject for the Master.
Thankfully he simply chuckled at what I asked him. "She doesn't always give that information out to others. But yes, she was right saying that. Years back I formed a team with five other individuals in the Fairy Tail Guild, we chose to split up a few years back to go on our own paths. In the case of Porlyusica, she was the group's professional healer." Makarov informed me, as we reached the East Forest and began to make our way in.
"Wow, I didn't think teams could be that big. I always thought there was a limit on how many people you can have." I thought after saying that.
"Well there isn't really a limit per say… But when on a mission with others, it's important that you split the reward evenly. That can determine how many people you want on your team. If say it's you and one other then the reward is split 50-50, but if it's a group of four then the reward is split with each member getting 25% each." Master finishing explaining.
"Yeah I think I get it now." I understood, nodding my head at him.
"You know, I think you and Gildarts would get along quite well in a team. You already seem to be good friends right now." Makarov told me. "Plus Gildarts doesn't really have anyone else to talk to in the guild that's his age… well except for Ivan of course." Master said frowning at the last part.
"You know, it's rare that Porlyusica came to talk to you last time you were here. As she likes to emphasise to us, she really dislikes humans." Master spoke.
"How many people know about her Master? She does seem like a bit of a hermit…" I inquired, hoping he could answer my question.
"Not many people know about her. I only bring guild members to her if they are pretty badly damaged from quests. Despite her hate for humans, she does value human life, especially those in Fairy Tail." Master smiled.
"How does she survive way out here in the forest?" I asked, as I could see her house in the distance.
"She mostly gets her supplies from Orchid village." Master explained as we got closer to her house. As we were approaching her house from the back this time, I could see a garden that Porlyusica was currently tending to.
It was hard to tell from a distance, but I think I could see vegetables in the garden as well as many other strange flowers in the ground.
"Oh? Seems she's trying to be self-sufficient now." Said Makarov raising his eyebrow.
As we got closer, Porlyusica must have heard our footsteps, as she turned around to see who it was with a confused look on her face. Upon seeing the two of us, she huffed and began to walk back into her house. Makarov saw this and began to call out to her.
"Ah! Just wait a minute Porlyusica!" He cried out as Porlyusica began to quicken her pace up the stairs, before speed walking through her front door and slamming it it shut just as we reached the staircase.
Makarov sighed. "Oh that women…" He then turned to face me. "Well Cade this is where I leave you for the time being! I'll try to be back before sunset." He explained as made his way down the pathway that led to Orchid village.
"Wait Master!" I cried out. "I don't even know if I'm welcome here!" My cries were met with deaf ears, as Master started speed-walking his way down the pathway to the village.
"I'm sure you'll figure it out Cade!" He cried, as he disappeared into the trees.
I groaned at him leaving me again without any knowledge of what I should be doing. I pondered for a moment on the porch of her house, before remembering something. I reached into my jacket and found an old receipt and a pen. I turned the receipt over and wrote a message on it.
—
I'll be trying to figure out my magic over in the grass. I'll also watch over your plants!
—
I then slid the receipt under the door, and headed to the grassy area where I last stated to mediate. 'I mean… she wasn't that hostile towards me last time I was here… maybe she'll let me be?' I thought as I sat down on the grass and began to think.
'Ok. How do I awaken my magic then? I know how to focus my ethernano now, it's just a case of trying to find a way to unlock my birth magic. Maybe if I mediate and focus on trying to bring it out of me?' I pondered, before closing my eyes and began to move again focus my senses.
This time when focusing, I tried to imagine myself unlocking the magical energy within me that has been there since my birth. I tried to focus onto my magical container and try to unlock the section that would hold my magic inside of me.
And so time passed
And more
…
…
A few small animals ran past me
…
I swore I heard a birds droppings fall not to far away from me
…
…
Wait…
What was…?
I can hear… something
…
Just then I could hear some very, very, light footsteps in front of me. I slowly opened my eyes and saw a huge white stag, with great big antlers that were probably the same height as me, black eyes, six legs and hoofs to go with them. The creature was quite close to me and looking straight at me and sniffing all around me as if trying to determine whether I was friendly or not.
It then looked me in the eyes, opened its mouth and licked my face with its tongue. This caused me to giggle a little, as it did tickle.
I then slowly reached out my hand, causing the great stag to quickly retract his head a bit and stare right at me.
I moved my hand as slow as treacle as I slowly brought it to the stags head and began to slowly rub it along his head. The stag responded by licking my face again, before moving away from me and going towards Porlyusica's garden bed. Of which he then began to eat the plants.
'Ah that's not good.' I thought.
I imagined Porlyusica running out of her house if she saw the stag eating her flowers, with her broom in hand ready to fight it off. I slowly stood up and made my way over to the stage to try and direct him away from the plants, but then I heard a voice from my right.
"They're for him, you don't have to do anything."
I turned around to see Porlyusica, standing not too far away from me, with her arms behind her back. "Strange… I really didn't think he would show himself like that to you." She said, as she pondered in her thoughts, as if she was thinking for a reason.
"What… is that?" I said in awe, looking back at the stag, as it began to eat away at Porlyusica's vegetables.
"That is known as the Tonakai." Porlyusica said as she turned to me. "It is a very rare creature that wanders the East Forest of Magnolia. I have only seen him a handful of times since moving here. He hardly ever makes itself known to humans, preferring to say away from them." She explained turning back to look at it. "I saw outside my window the first time which was a months since I first moved here. After that I left food for it outside in my garden bed."
"Who else knows about this?" I asked curiously to her.
"Three people all together. Myself, Makarov saw it when he came by one time from outside my window. We both agreed not to mention it to anyone to keep him safe. And of course as of a few minutes ago, now you know about it."
Porlyusica then turned back round to ma and gave a stern expression. "I trust you won't mention him to anyone?" She said looking down at me.
"No, I won't." I assured Porlyusica, nodding my head at her.
"Good." Porlyusica said giving me nod as well. "Now then, why have you came back out here? I thought you'd already harnessed your ethernano?" She said raising her eyebrow at me.
"I was trying to awaken my inner magic that I was born with." I explained.
"Hmph, isn't one form of magic enough?" She said scoffing at me.
"Ever since I was young I've always wanted to awaken my magic so that I could join my father at Fairy Tail!" I said, snapping back at her. "I'd hoped that I could go on jobs with him and that he could help me learn magic. Isn't that what joining a guild is about? To have fun, make friends and practise magic? Sure I have magic now, but it isn't exactly the same as awakening the magic you have in you." I huffed crossing my arms at her.
Porlyusica looked a bit somber at what I said. "Well, I can't understand how that feels. I don't have magic after all."
She then gave me a curious look, which definitely surprised me. "You mentioned you had a father right?" She gave me a curious expression.
"Er… yeah. He used Water Magic." I answered with confusion.
Porlyusica looked a little taken aback with what I just said. She then paused for a moment before speaking up. "You're his son aren't you? Cobalt's I mean."
"Yes!" I cried in surprise, before remembering that the Tonakai was still here. He heard me and turned his head up to look at me. He thankfully just put his head back down and continued his meal.
"Um, how do you know my father?" I asked with curiosity, making sure to keep my shock at a low voice to not alert the Tonakai anymore.
Porlyusica looked, for the first time since I saw her, a little bit… happy? I mean she wasn't smiling but she looked like she was pleased at what I had just said to her. "I know him because he saved my life."
"What!?" I whispered quietly. "How?!"
Porlyusica sighed to herself. "It was on his first S-Class mission, only a few days after he got the rank. He asked me and Goldmine to come with him in case things went south as it was still his first S-Class quest."
"Long story short, the whole mission was incredibly hard for the both of them. I mostly stayed behind them to not get hurt, however a stray blast from a dark wizard was flung towards me. I thought I was done for, but then your father leapt in front of the blast taking it to the shoulder. The quest was over at that point, that wizard was the last man standing, so we all headed back to the guild." Porlyusica looked up at the sky as she said that.
"On the way back, he told me about you and how he was terrified about the idea of raising a son. He was able to complete an S-Class quest and yet he was scared about the idea of raising a child, thinking he would do something wrong." She then turned to look at me, and gave me the second biggest surprise I'd seen today, that being a small smile. "I'm glad to see everything worked out in the end."
She then turned to look back at the Tonakai, who at this point had left Porlyusica's garden bed and moved over the grass and had crossed in his six legs and sat down. Him clearly being too full from eating to move around right now.
"What's he been up to at the guild?" Porlyusica wondered.
I paused. She didn't know that he had died.
"He's… dead. He died on an S-Class quest." I said looking down at the ground, unable to meet her in the eye.
Porlyusica gasped a little upon hearing that. "I'm… so sorry young man." She said with sympathy. "Have you and your mother been well?"
"We've been recovering. After he died, I didn't think I would ever get over it." I explained, thinking back to how I was when I learned what happened to him. I then looked up to Porlyusica who had a frown on her face. "But here I am, trying to awaken my magic to make sure I keep fighting for him." I said choking up a little with emotion, as I remembered what he asked me to do.
Porlyusica moved over to me and pulled out a tissue from her pocket, and handed it to me which I then took and began to wipe some tears that began to form at my eyes. After I had finished this, she then took a deep breath.
"Unlocking magic isn't something you can force out. As strange as it sounds you must try and put the subject out of your mind. You'll never unlock it unless you stop worrying about it." She suggested to me.
"But… you don't have magic. How do you know all of this?" I said with curiosity.
"I'm an expert on healing as well as potions and medicine. A lot of my patients have came to me asking if I have a potion that awakens their magic by force, and every time the answer is always the same." She told me, while raising her head at me as she said that with a stern tone.
"You… refuse them?" I guessed. Porlyusica nodded. "But do you do it because you genuinely don't have a potion that can do it, or you do have one and won't give it to them because it would be wrong?" I wondered, tilting my head.
Porlyusica stated at me for a second before responding. "The latter." She said plainly, before giving me a stern expression.
"It's dangerous for someone to take?" I asked with concern.
"Yes. If you take it before you awaken your inner magic, you will receive Magic Particle Sickness. It's a form of sickness that means you will be unable to use any and all magic for a few weeks, not only that but you'll also be vomiting considerably for several weeks."
"If that wasn't enough, there is a chance you can fall into a coma for a month due to how your magical container will accept the effects of the potion the wrong way round." She finished, turning back to look at the Tonakai.
"Right… I'll awaken my magic on my own then." I said, gulping at the idea.
Porlyusica nodded her head at me. "Now then, I still do doubt you'll unlock your magic by continuing to dwell on the subject. If you do still really want some advice about trying to unlock it, you're just looking for a part of your mind that isn't released yet." She said as she then turned away to head back into her house, before closing the door quietly do not disturb the Tonakai.
With her gone and me not being able to communicate with the Tonakai, I reorganised myself in the grass, took one last look at the Tonakai, and closed my eyes.
I then began to focus again, trying to search through my magical container to awaken my magic.
And so I focused
…
…
I had found nothing so far
…
…
…
I felt the sun leave my face
…
…
As I continued to search my inner self for my locked away magic, I felt like I found something, deep at the back of my mind that had been hiding there for years. I tried to bring it closer to my conscious mind, where I could easily access it. But It seemed to be stuck there, not budging.
'Well this has to be it then!' I realised, as I tried to access it from where it was.
Yet it wasn't working. I felt a little frustrated, before realising that being upset and angry won't help me here. I reorganised my mind and began to think about everything I had learned that had gotten me to this point. My father wanting me to keep pressing on, my will to be strong to protect myself and my mother and wanting to fulfil my lifelong dream.
As I was thinking of these things I could feel the thing at the back of my mind creep ever closer to my conscience!
But I could also smell something I couldn't smell before…
It smelt like… smoke?
I opened my eyes and looked around. The sun had began to set as I could see it the sky as a dark red and orange colour. I also noticed that the Tonakai had left by this point. Finally I saw Porlyusica standing on her porch looking out across the pathway that led to Orchid village.
She had a troubled gaze on her face as she looked up into the sky, above where the village would be in the distance. Just then some small animals ran across the pathway towards the direction of her house. I got up and moved over to where she was.
"Do you smell that?" I asked looking around. Porlyusica said nothing and continued to gaze into the distance. I followed her gaze and saw in the distance, some black thick smoke rising above the sky.
"Wait… is that a fire over there?" I asked with a bit of fear in my voice. "Like in the forest?!"
Porlyusica just gritted her teeth as I said that. "No. It's coming from Orchid village." She said as she began to make her way down the stairs of her house. "You stay here. If the fire spreads from the village and makes its way here run through the forest back to Magnolia." She said as she reached the pathway.
"Wait, where are you going?" I questioned with concern.
"I'm going to try and see if I can help out down there. I won't sit by and do nothing when I could be saving them." She explained with determimation.
"Erm… no offence, but I thought you hated humans?"
Porlyusica turned to look at me with an unreadable expression. "I do hate humans, you're right. They litter all around here, I think they can be too greedy for their own good and they can be cruel. But I know for a fact that there are good people in Orchid Village. Yes, there is "bad humans" in there as well, but I will not stand by and watch them all die when I know that there are those that kind and caring down there." Porlyusica said, as she then began to run across the path towards the village.
I wanted to object to what Porlyusica was doing, but she was right in a way.
I didn't have any magical weapons on me right now as I didn't think I'd need them, and I hadn't awoken my magic yet so I was in no position to help her. 'If only Master was here… why hadn't he came back yet!?' I cried internally.
So with nothing else to do, I just sat on Porlyusica's porch and waited.
…
…
…
Hmm…
…
No…
No wait! This was wrong!
What was I doing? I was here just sitting around watching the plants grow when I could be out there helping the villagers escape the fire! I was just being a coward sitting back here and doing nothing to help!
It didn't matter if I had magic or not, I could still try to help! If my father did see me right now… I think he'd be disappointed in me. No, I'm not sitting back here and waiting!
I leapt up from the porch and began to run straight towards Orchid Village to help the villagers with the fire.
As I ran there I was curious about one thing. How did the fire start in the first place? I had assumed that the fire came from Orchid Village due to an accident with someone maybe dropping a lit torch in a building and having it spread to the other houses.
As I kept running I saw more and more small animals run past me further into the woods. 'How big is this fire?! Has it actually spread to the edge of the forest!?' I thought as I continued to run.
As I got closer to the edge of the forest I saw the smoke much more clearly now. It was thick, dark and completely covered the sun-setting sky. Finally as I reached the exit of the East Forest, I saw a terrible sight.
There were houses on fire all across the village, almost every single house was engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke pouring out from above it. In the distance I could see the silhouettes of the villagers running away from the village and trying to get out of their houses. There was carriages knocked over and on fire on the pathway.
Not wanting to waste any time I ran down the path to Orchid village, hoping that I wasn't too late to help some people. When I made it to the village I saw a man stuck under a big wooden beam not to far away from the main path. I ran over to him to try to help him get unstuck.
"Hey kid!" He yelled out. "Please help me! I need you to try and hold this up so I can get out!" He cried out trying to get unstuck himself.
I reached down and grabbed the beam with my hands and used all my strength to life the beam up as high as I could – which was about a few centimetres off the ground.
Thankfully this was all the time the man needed, as he immediately crawled out as soon as he could, just before I got too tired to keep holding up the beam. When he got out, I immediately dropped it, and breathed a sigh of relief.
"You… ok?" I breathed, quite tired after all that.
"Yeah, thanks kid. I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't came here." He said patting me on the shoulder as a way of thanks.
"What caused the fire?" I said to him.
"I don't know. I just remember hearing shouts and screams outside from inside my house and the next thing I knew, I saw the whole village on fire when I looked out my window!" He explained quickly to me.
"Did you see a lady with pink hair run by here a few minutes ago?" I demanded desperately.
"Yeah I passed her when I was running this way trying to get out of the village. It was after that the beam fell on me." He said, as he looked around trying to see anyone else in the village. "I'm gonna out of the village and see if I can get a message from the train station to Magnolia, and get some help here. You should hide in the woods where it's safe." He said, before running away to the train station to call for help.
Knowing that Porlyusica was now in the burning village, I began to run across the pathway further into the village. As I was running I made it to the church in the centre of the village and found that it was seething with fire. Flames poured out of the once beautiful stained glass windows, and the stone bricks that made up the church were stained black due to the fire.
In the distance I could see Porlyusica! She was knelt down on her knees and was giving what looked like a potion to some people who were lying on the ground. Once they drank it, they quickly got up and thanked her before running off.
It was then I noticed that the wall of a wooden house was about to come crashing down onto Porlyusica!
I took immediate action and sprinted towards her, before tackling her out of the way and dodging the falling wall. When we hit the ground she turned around to presumably thank her saviour, but when she saw it was me, her face turned into shock and then anger.
"What-?! I thought I told you to stay at my house!" She yelled at me in anger, as she got off the ground and gave me a hand up off the ground. "You don't have any magic to protect you! You could be killed!"
"I couldn't just wait there knowing that something bad would happen to you! I don't care if I have magic with me or not, if I have the ability to help someone I will!" I shouted back at her.
"No, you don't get it! This fire wasn't an accident, it was caused by - LOOK OUT!" She yelled, as she was now the one to save me, as she pushed me out of the way of a fireball which flew through the middle of where we were previously standing.
I quickly turned to look where the fireball came from and saw a man in dark robes standing there, with a brown beard and red eyes. He was also bald and had a scowl on his face.
"Tch, I missed!" He said snarling. "Oh well, guess I'll get the both of you with this spell, Pyro Cannon!" He yelled out as two large jets of fire erupted from his hands, before then throwing them both at me and Porlyusica.
The both of us quickly dodged to the side, before I saw Porlyusica reach into her pocket, and whip out a large vial with orange liquid I didn't recognise and then threw it at the man who threw the spell at us. The vial made contact with his face and as it did, he let out a painful scream.
"GAHHHHH!" He yelled, as I could see huge blistering red marks appear in his face as he quickly held them with his hand. I didn't get much time to process what it was, as Porlyusica quickly grabbed my hand and pulled me away from the wizard. "I'LL GET YOU FOR THAT!" He yelled as we ran away.
"Come on! You're not safe here, dark wizards are attacking this village, they were the ones who started the fire here!" Porlyusica said as she pulled me through the village. Eventually we made it just outside of the village and stopped to take a look back.
At this point, every house was now on fire, with many of them already burned to the ground. I couldn't see anyone else running around in the village, so I assumed everyone made it out ok.
I turned back to Porlyusica to see if she was alright, but as I did, she was punched back from me by a large first of earth! I ran up to her to see if she was ok, and found that she had hit her head and was now unconscious! I moved to drag her away from the unknown attacker, but before I could move to help her, I heard a deep voice.
"Well, seems like some villagers are trying to get away. I'm afriad I can't let any of you go now that I've seen you." I turned to see a large beastly man with fists made out of earth, he had a smirk on his face, as he then held out his fist to me and launched it right towards me.
Before I had time to duck and get to cover, it hit me square in the stomach sending me flying back as well as I hit the ground not too far away from Porlyusica.
That fist of earth hurt a lot, as I let out a scream of pain. I'm not sure if any of my bones were broken from that attack, but I was struggling to get up on my own two feet.
It was then I heard the voice of that fire wizard from earlier. His entire left face was covered in big red spots, from his eye down to his mouth. His eyes were seething from anger at what had happened to him earlier.
"GOT YOU NOW YOU BRAT!" He yelled out as he prepared an attack for me and Porlyusica who was still on the ground. His ally the earth wizard put his hands behind his back, as he watched.
They both however, seemed surprised to see me actually stand back up on my own two feet, and move in front of Porlyusica, ready to protect her from harm. "L-Leave her alone! I… won't let… you… hurt her…" I muttered, barely able to get the words out of my mouth.
Both of the wizards laughed at me after I said that. "Bold of you to assume you can stop us. A child trying to stop men." The earth wizard said chucking.
"If you want to get in the way, then it's fine by me! Goodbye kid!" Yelled the fire mage as he held out his hand and launched his attack at me. "Fire Wave!" He yelled, sending a large wave of fire in my direction.
As I saw the fire heading towards me, I just couldn't accept what was happening right now.
Me and Porlyusica were about to be killed here and these men were going to just get away. My mother would be left without a son and Master Makarov would be devastated at losing one of his closest friend.
No… No, no, NO! It's not going to end here!
I refused! I couldn't let Porlyusica die here, I couldn't leave my mother all alone, I couldn't leave Master Makarov without his best friend, and I absolutely refused to die here and meet my father in the afterlife with the idea that I had failed both him and myself!
I closed my eyes and let out a scream of pure rage as the attack was about to hit me… but it didn't hit me. As I slowly opened my eyes I saw two things. One, the fire attack was now frozen solid mere inches before I reached me. The second was that I saw a short man with black trousers, and a white coat with a strange mark on the back of it that I didn't recognise. The man turned around, and I saw the face of Makarov Dreyar which looked the most serious I had ever seen it before.
"I'll take it from here Cade." He told me, before turning back to face the two wizards.
Master! He saved me!
And then I collapsed.
When I woke up, I saw myself in a hospital room, which had the walls painted with a lovely white colour. The hospital bed I was on had a very fluffy pillow and covers. I then noticed that I was dressed in some light blue clothing, which felt quite comfortable.
As I looked around the room some more, I saw the door to the room open, and from the other side entered Master Makarov, Porlyusica and my mother. Upon seeing me awake, Master and my mother ran over to me with a relieved look on their faces.
"CADE!" My mother cried out as she ran up and hugged me tightly. "Oh, I'm so glad you're ok now. I didn't know when you would wake up, I was so worried from what happened to you!" She shouted as she continued to squeeze me.
It was at this point I remembered that, from my perspective I was about to possibly die a few hours ago, and I began to sob profusely upon remembering. My mother then began to rub my head to try to soothe me after what had happened. When I finished crying, I turned to look at my mother.
"What happened? I can't remember much from when I was last awake." I asked in a groggy voice, trying to recall details from what had previously transpired.
"You were… about to be attacked by a fire spell casted by a dark wizard. They had raided Orchid Village to steal their supplies and any jewels they may have had. You and Porlyusica went to try and help the villagers out, while not knowing that it was dark wizards that were attacking Orchid Village." My mother explained.
Master Makarov spoke up after my mother. "Some time after you got there. Porlyusica was on the ground unconscious, and you make the brave decision to stand and protect her. You were about to be hit by a spell, but I jumped in and saved you from the wizards."
He gave me a pat on the shoulder. "I'm… sorry I was unable to make back to you earlier. The meeting I was at went on for much longer than I originally planned." He said grimacing, with regret in his voice.
"It's ok Master, what matters is that we all made it out of there alive! Wait! What about the criminals?" I wondered with surprise, having completely forgotten about them.
"Oh ho, I took care of them." Makarov explained, smirking as he said it. "But, are you ok now Cade? You feel better now?" Makarov asked calmly.
"Yes Master I feel much-"
"Then what on earth were you thinking running out there like that! You could have died horribly and you didn't even have any magic to protect yourself! You better make sure this doesn't happen again Cade because I'm not sure I'll always be able to save you…" Makarov yelled as he rambled on about how foolish I was then.
At that point my Mother sighed and pulled him away from me, trying to give me a break. Then she came back up to me and gave me a sympathetic smile before speaking up.
"What were you thinking running into the village like that! You are only ten years old! I don't want you running off into danger like that again until have better control over your magic! I swear if I see you doing that again I'll make sure Charles and Pierce give you no dinner for the next few weeks…" She said, as she began to pinch my cheek in anger.
"Gahhh please… give me a break…" I groaned, as I then turned to Porlyusica who just raised her eyebrow at me. Just then I realised something my mother said to me.
"Wait… What do you mean better control over my magic? I haven't awoken my magic yet." I wondered as I pulled my mothers hand off my cheek.
"Ah yes, I was impressed at how you stopped that wizards attack back there. I was about to stop it myself, but I was surprised to see that you had done it yourself. Not bad for a first spell, I guess training up your magical container helped after all." Makarov replied, smiling at me while also nodding his head.
"Wait… I thought you stopped the attack?" I said in confusion. "You said you stopped the wizards back there." I scratched my head.
"Yes I stopped the wizards, but you stopped the spell from reaching you and Porlyusica." Makarov spoke his smile growing.
"Wait… Ah! That means…!" I said before immediately realising what actually happened back there.
"That's right Cade. You awakened your inner magic back there! You have Ice magic!" Makarov said to me with joy, my mother with tears of happiness.
And then I began to cry tears of joy upon hearing that.
There we go everyone! Cade has finally awoken his magic! Did you all think it would be ice? Well done to those who may have correctly guessed it.
Now, some of you may have been wondering why on earth I have given Cade Ice Magic.
"This is the Enchanter Of Fairy Tail, not the Ice Age Wizard Of Fairy Tail or the Freezing Wizard Of Fairy Tail!" You may say, and I do not blame you at all.
You see, I gave Cade this magic as it is a magic that is not too powerful. Irene has shown in the anime just powerful Enchantment Magic is. As she is a rather late villain in the franchise, we haven't really seen any low-level enchantment spells. While doing research for this, I also found that there are very little offensive enchantment spells. Irene uses some, but Wendy only uses stat enchantments, meaning I'm limited with what to work with.
Not wanting to change the lore of the franchise that much, I've given Cade Ice Magic as a magic for him to work with and develop and to not make him too powerful early on.
Trust me, he'll get some good Enchantment spells in the future. This is a very versatile magic.
Also, ice isn't really that far of a cry from what his father used, so I think it matches well. Ice was also chosen as it will blend quite well with Cade's Enchantment Magic in his future. You'll see what I mean as the story continues.
Anyway, that's my small talk over now.
With that, this arc is now finished! The next one will be a bit different from the others. As there will be a few time-skips ahead at certain points. We can now go a bit faster pacing wise now that Cade has actual magic that he can use at will.
Anyway! I hope you enjoyed reading this chapter and arc and I'll see you in the next one!
