Chapter 29: Help from Unlikely Sources
Year: X756. 28 years till Canon begins.
Cade POV:
Quite a few months had passed since Gildarts had became S-Class, and we were now in the new year. Summer was here, and lush flowers broke out all across our garden outside behind the manor.
Gildarts had been going on a few S-Class quests since getting the promotion, to get a feel of how different they are from regular quests. Gildarts had asked me to come along with him on a few of the quests, but to the surprise of him and many of the wizards who were listening in on our conversation; I kindly refused his offer.
You see, normal wizards were aloud to accompany S-Class wizards in their missions but they needed Master's personal approval for that. I had mixed feeling on whether Master Makarov would allow me to go on these types of quests, but that wasn't the reason why I didn't take up his offer.
To put it simply, I don't personally feel like I'm ready for S-Class Quests yet.
Assuming I did go on a S-Class Quest with Gildarts, I would probably find myself struggling to deal with any of the wizards or monsters that we were facing. That would leave Gildarts to fight them, while also leaving me as a liability on the sidelines. I just didn't feel confident enough with my magic as it was right now.
My offensive enchants were only at a certain fixed strength, and couldn't get any more powerful, unless I combined them into a fusion spell. Yes the offensive enchantments still had their uses when in combat, but in terms of physical strength they weren't going to bring me to S-Class.
That only left me with my Ice Magic.
Sure I had been training up my Ice Magic since I first unlocked it years back. I could cast more ice spells without getting as tired unlike in the past, and I was able to use the magic to create some unique situations to throw at my opponent like turning the floor into ice, or chilling the air around us to make my opponent shiver and slip up during combat.
The issue was, that my Ice Magic in general wasn't that strong offensive wise. I was struggling to try to make the ice much thicker and more compact. I expected this to not be that hard, as this form of magic comes from within me, unlike my offensive enchantments which are fixed and come from a weapon.
However, I was experiencing severe difficulties in trying to achieve this on the fly when in combat. Some of my attacks like my Ice Spikes attack and my Ice Wall spell were able to become a bit sharper and thicker respectively. But my ranged attacks were mostly stuck in terms of advancing in strength.
One idea did come to my mind on how to potentially fix all of these issues I was having.
That being to successfully turn all my ice attacks into stone.
Even though my magic power/container has been increasing over the years since I've started using magic, I was still finding issue in trying to get my ice to turn into stone successfully. I knew it was possible, as I had turned ice on the ground from my Ice Floor spell, and the ice on my Ice Wall spell into stone without that much issue: It was the ranged attacks I was having issue with.
Ice Slicer, Ice Bullets, Ice Beam and so many more of my ice attacks could be so much better if they could just turn to stone successfully! It irked me how I wasn't able to cats the Henshin spell fast enough in order to turn the ice into stone.
Currently I was sitting at the guild on one of the many benches with my elbow on the table and my chin cusped in my hand, while flicking at some small cubes of ice I had made on the table. I was trying to think of some sort of way to get my technique to work as I intended it to.
A brawl was going on behind me, I believe it started due to one of the guild members beer getting swapped with swamp water as a prank when the unlucky member wasn't looking. Things escalated as they usually do, and a brawl was started within the next minute.
I was finding it hard to focus and try to think of a way to sort my magic out. I had moved to a back corner of the guild to try and concentrate a bit more (and to not get hit on the back of the head while not looking.)
I gave a solemn sigh, as I had made no progress since starting this thinking process and hour ago now. I had asked people for help about my issue; but there was one problem. They had no idea how to help me in my predicament.
Master Makarov tried to think of ideas to help me for a while now, but he came up empty to my disappointment. Frag had offered to help me think of ideas, but he too was unable to think of any ideas to help with my problem. Gildarts had apparently asked some wizards he met on his quests for advice, but unfortunately he couldn't find anyone that could help me. As well as many other wizards in the guild that I asked for help.
I was all alone in dealing with this issue. I was aware of the fact that there was another 40 plus pages in Malvel's book ready to be translated, but I wasn't sure what those pages were meant to be. They could all be defensive enchantments for all I knew! I didn't want to waste time translating pages, when I could be brainstorming ideas on how to deal with the ice – stone conversation process.
I had hoped being in the guild would help me get some ideas on how to solve my issue. Maybe a wizard would do something and would give me an idea on how to help me. Nothing like that came up during my time here.
I then felt someone's presence sit down next to me on the bench. I turned to my left and saw; to my surprise, Quikora.
"Alright there Cade?" He asked curiously.
"Oh, I'm fine. Just stuck on this issue of trying to turn my ice into stone." I replied, still a bit surprised the S-Class wizard took some time to sit down and help me out here.
I never really spent that much time with Quikora, other than when he may get involved in a guild brawl, or when he came to talk to wizards that I was around. As such, I found it strange that he would come and talk to me here.
"Ah yes. Heard about that whole chestnut around the building recently. Must be annoying to have such a strong combination and no way to execute it." He said with a sad nod.
"You have no idea." I muttered, as I played around with a bit of ice in my hand.
I then looked towards Quikora. "You're real aren't you?" I wondered, as I flicked the small block of ice at his head.
Quikora surprised me by catching it with two of his fingers not long after I flicked it.
"That answers that then." I nodded.
"How long have you been at this whole debacle?" Quikora inquired.
"Months now. It all started when I learned about the spell that could turn solid magical matter into stone. I've gotten the spell down successfully, the issue is trying to use it on my ice ranged attacks in time." I explained.
"How many of your spells would benefit from this?" Quikora said with interest.
"Well let's see here: Ice Beam, Ice Shards, Ice Bullets, Ice Rain, Ice Wave, Ice Slicer." I listed on my fingers. "All of these attacks and more could be so much more powerful, if I was just able to get that down."
Quikora paused for a moment. "How have you been practicing?"
"Well I've been trying to cast the Henshin spell immediately after summoning my ranged ice attack, to try and have the ice turn into stone as the attack is sent off. The issue is that it happens way to slowly and it's impossible for the conversion to take place." I said in annoyance.
"And no other idea have came to your mind?" Quikora asked curiously.
I sighed. "None that would work." I muttered, as I turned back to face the wall in front of me.
"You've asked everyone in the guild for help correct?"
"Yes I've asked everyone I could have asked. Even Master Makarov doesn't know what to do to help me. Not that I can blame him, this is a tricky task I'm trying to solve. It doesn't help that there isn't any written sources that say whether it has been done before." I said, as I flicked another bit of ice.
"Hmm." Quikora hummed.
I turned back to him curiously. Quikora seemed to be thinking carefully. "You know. This may be an issue that no other mage can help you with." He stated with a grimace.
"What?! You think I'm seriously stuck here with no way to learn this?!" I exclaimed in disbelief.
"I wasn't finished!" Quikora said in irritation.
"Oh sorry…" I apologised as I scratched my head awkwardly.
"What I'm trying to say, is that this is an issue that no wizard has presumably had to deal with. You are, as far as the history books are concerned; the only wizard who is attempting this. That means only you can be the one to figure it out." Quikora explained firmly.
"What! But I can't think of anything to help me with this!" I said with frustration.
"Well…" Quikora seemed a bit stuck here. Then he suddenly thought of an idea. "Tell you what Cade. I've often heard that help can come from the most unlikely sources. Maybe take a walk around town and take a listen in some conversations, or see what certain people in the town are doing. Maybe they'll inspire you." He suggested with a smile.
I thought about it carefully.
I mean… that wasn't the worst idea I've heard. I certainly don't doubt the common folk in this town, but I never considered getting inspired by watching them doing some daily activities that may be normal to them. Maybe it was worth a shot.
"Well I guess I can try it. I've got nothing to lose." I said with a shrug, as I stood up from my seat. "Thanks for the hint Quikora."
"No need to thank me. It's my job to help any of the guild members that need it." He said, as he leaned back on his seat. "Good luck with that."
I waved him goodbye as I left the building with the brawl still going on. Seems I left at the right time, as Quikora got hit by a stray fireball while he wasn't looking, causing him to join in on the fight.
I didn't always get involved in guild brawls, I found it really fun to watch them, back when I was aloud upstairs and I got to look down on the chaos. Now that the second floor was off limits for regular mages again, it was hard to find a good watching spot for the brawls.
I didn't always engage in the fights as I simply liked to predict who will win with what move. Of course… if I was hit by a stray blast when I wasn't looking… Well I can't just let that slide can I now?
I then made my way through Magnolia to hopefully find some inspiration from the locals in the town. As I was walking through the town, I tried to think of places that could help me. While thinking, my stomach growled quite loudly for me to hear.
Then an idea stuck me. Why don't I go and get something to eat and try to watch the restaurant owner as he made the food! There was a local bakery nearby I which I could do this easily. I would simply order the food and watch behind the counter as he made the pastries!
With my plan in mind, I headed towards the bakery with gusto. When I got there, I entered the shop and ordered a simple strawberry shortcake, which was probably one of the best foods I had ever tasted in my life. I then took a seat inside the store and watched behind the counter.
I saw that the baker was taking the sponge of the cake out of a big oven, before placing it on a tray. He then reached into a cupboard and pulled out some cream and strawberry cream and placed them on a counter. Afterwards, he carefully got a clean and smooth knife from a knife rack and began to smother both creams along the side and top of the cake.
I wasn't sure why, but seeing him spread the creams like that made me think of something. However I quickly forgot, as I saw the baker make his move when making the cake.
He then seemed to take his knife and cut open a part of the cake and spread the white cream inside the cake. Finally he cut up some rich strawberries and put them on the top of the cake. He then put the cake in a box, wrapped the box up and placed it on the counter.
"There you go! That'll be 1,000 jewel." He said to me.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out exactly 1,000 jewel to pay for the cake. I then exited the shop with the cake in my hands and continued to walk throughout town.
'I'd love to have this cake, but I'd rather bring it back home and share it. Along the way I'll see if I can find anyone who can inspire me.' I then began to make my way through town while taking the long road in order to see if I could see anyone noteworthy.
While I was walking, I thought back on what I had forgotten in the bakery earlier. 'What was it that I had forgotten? Was it anything important? It came and went so fast, I'm struggling to recall it.' I thought in irritation.
As I walked, I saw two kids running throughout town just ahead of me. They looked a few years younger than me. One had dark blue hair while the other had brown hair. They were both seemingly playing a game of tag, with the dark haired boy reaching out to try to grab the brown haired boy.
They seemed to be having a good time, as I saw that they were both smiling and laughing innocently as they were running around. The blue haired boy eventually caught the brown haired boy, and they both then stopped just to the front entrance of a shop to take a breather.
As I was walking up to where they were, I saw that up above them, there was a large sign that advertised the shop they were at. What alarmed me, was that I saw that the sign was creaking a lot. I then heard a snapping sound and saw that the sign was now falling down to the two boys!
"Hey kids! Move now!" I shouted at them, as the sign began to fall down to them. If that sign hit them, then they would surely be killed.
The two boys looked over to where I was with confusion, before the brown haired boy then looked up and saw the sign falling down to them. He cried out in terror, and the blue haired boy looked up and did the same as his friend.
'Oh why are they just standing there!?'
"Ice Pillars!" I cried out, as I waved my hand upwards which summoned several beams of thick ice up around the boys to stop the sign from hitting them.
The sign hit my Ice Beams instead of the boys, making a loud sound that a good portion of the nearby town probably heard. The two boys were still petrified at what had just happened, but upon seeing the ice around them and looking up to see the sign on the beams of ice, they let out a gasp in surprise.
A few people had came to see what all the commotion was about, and began to mutter to themselves about what they saw. I got a few cheers and applause from them which was always nice to get every so often on a job.
I then approached the two boys who had emerged from the beams, and still looked very surprised at what had just happened in the last ten seconds.
"Hey. You kids alright?" I asked when I approached the boys.
"Wow mister you just saved us!" Said the blue haired boy in happiness, as he looked up at me.
"Thanks so much!" The brown haired boy replied with a smile.
'Do these boys know they were this close to death?!' I yelled internally, in a mixture of disbelief, confusion and shock.
"No problem you two!" I replied with a kind smile that matched nothing like how I was currently thinking.
"What magic was that?" Asked the brown haired boy with curiosity.
"That was Ice Magic kid." I explained as I summoned a small block of ice in my palm for demonstration, with me having to hold the box that held my cake under my other arm.
The two boys looked at the block of ice in amazement, with their mouths dropping in shock. I swore I could see stars in their eyes as they stared at the block of ice. These kids must really like magic. That or this was their first time seeing a wizard in action.
"Hey mister? Are you are a wizard at a guild?" Asked the blue haired boy with interest.
"Sure am." I rolled up my sleeve to show the two boys my red Fairy Tail guild emblem. When they saw it, they both gasped in shock at looked at the guild mark with curiosity.
"What guild is that? Asked the brown haired boy.
"Fairy Tail!" I said proudly with a smirk. "It's actually in this town believe it or not. You can find it at the north of Magnolia. Big building, two floors, fancy roof and big door." I listed. "Though I'm not sure why you want to go there at your age. I think you're a bit too young to be casting spells and learning magic if you ask me."
"Well I was thinking about learning magic when I was older and joining a guild!" The brown haired boy followed on saying.
"Yeah me too! We'll join together and be the best team in there!" Added the blue haired boy with enthusiasm.
"Heh, that so?" I said with a grin. "Well it's great to see a lot of enthusiasm in you both. What are your names then?"
The blue haired boy began to speak up. "Well I'm-"
"There you two are!" Cried the voice of a woman from behind me.
I turned my head in confusion and saw a rather thin, but not skinny woman, with a very stern face march towards where I was standing. I was about to ask who this woman was, before she then brisked past me and stopped in front of the two boys.
She then knelt down and pulled at both of the boys ears which cause them to wince in pain. "Where have you two been for the last 20 minutes!? I've been looking all over for you two!" She shouted at the both of them.
She first looked at the blue haired boy. "Your mother had been worried sick about you. You should know better than to run off like that without telling us both!" She lectured.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! It was his idea to play tag in town!" The blue haired boy accused as he pointed to his friend. The brown haired boy gave a look of betrayal at the mention of that.
The women then began to pull harder on both ears as she looked at the brown haired boy with anger. "It was your idea!? I thought I raised you better than that young man!" She yelled in his face.
"Argh! Please I'm sorry! We were about to head back but then we ran into this guild wizard just now." The boy said apologetically, as he pointed to me.
The woman then looked up towards me in confusion. Upon seeing me and my guild mark due to my rolled up sleeve, she immediately stood up and walked over to me.
"Oh I'm terribly sorry about all that." She apologised kindly with a sigh afterwards. "Those two boys keep running off to play with each other instead of staying where they are meant to be." She explained.
"I'm that one's mother." She said as she sharply gestured her head back in the direction of the brown haired boy, who was rubbing his ear. "His friend over there is with us on a holiday weekend. We're spending a bit of time here to relax before heading back home." She added.
"They didn't bother you did they?" Then woman asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Oh, er… they just bumped into me as they were running by." I quickly fabricated a half-decent lie to the mother there. I think she would faint in the spot if I said that the two boys almost died a few minutes ago. Best to lie and save them another ear squeeze.
The lady nodded her head in understanding as I said that. "Ah, I see. Well we won't bother you any more then. Come on you two!" She shouted to the two boys who were whispering to each other.
The two boys then jumped to attention and began to follow the lady as she walked away from me.
'Well that was… interesting.' I thought, as I began to resume my walk back to home.
The rest of the walk home wasn't that eventful by any means. I didn't encounter anyone or anything interesting on my way back. I mostly just thought about how nice the cake would taste when I eat some of it later.
Upon arriving back home, I made my way into the kitchen to cut and eat the strawberry cake. When I entered I saw Pierce and Charles having a conversation with each other.
Well… When I listened in on it, I couldn't help but feel it was a bit more of an argument between the both of them.
"I'm telling you! That is not how you should be layering the ingredients!" Pierce argued.
"Well the many different guidebooks we have read certainly said so. And haven't Lady and Sir Philipe always enjoyed them?" Charles rebutted back.
'What is going on in here?' I quizzed with confusion.
Pierce and Charles seemed to notice me come in, and they both turned around to see me giving a look of surprise when they saw me.
"Oh! Sir Philipe! I didn't hear you come in!" Charles greeted.
"Did you find what you were looking for at the guildhall just now?" Pierce asked.
"Sadly not." I answered. "However, I did purchase this lovely strawberry shortcake." I held up the cake for the both of them to see.
"Oh how lovely! I'm sure it'll taste great." Charles commented.
"Actually… I think this is a golden opportunity, wouldn't you say Charles?" Pierce suggested all of a sudden.
"Hmm?" Me and Charles both said in unison.
"Let's see how that cake was made! Then Sir Philipe can eat it and see if he likes it or not. That'll settle the debate wouldn't you say?" Pierce explained.
"What!? I mean… Yes of course! If Sir Philipe has no issue with this of course, then I accept!" Charles said determined.
"What's going on here?" I asked in confusion.
"Well not long before you came in just now, Pierce was looking through one of the cookbooks that we normally use to make the food that is eaten in this manor." Charles started. "He found that the way the ingredients are layered in one of the cakes that we made were wrong, and that we had been doing it wrong the whole time!"
"Really?" I said in surprise. "I had no idea."
"Exactly my point!" Charles snapped. "It doesn't matter if we've been doing it wrong, as long as you and your mother enjoy it then it should be fine!"
"Ah! But what if we get it wrong one time in the future and accidentally give everyone food poisoning! We eat this food too you know!" Pierce argued back.
Before Charles could argue back, I spoke up. "That's what this was about? What's this supposed to do with the cake I brought in then?" I said, wanting to get this over and done with.
Pierce answered that for me. "Let's see the cake! I know how a strawberry shortcake is meant to be layered, so we can see if it was done right or not. Then you can eat it to see if you like it or not. That will decide if we should be following the instructions or not."
'Big difference between putting the wrong amount of cream on a strawberry cake, and accidentally putting something like ketchup in soup…' I thought. 'But maybe this example will help them both out.'
"Alright I have no issue with it. As long as it solves this debate and gets it over with." I stated, as I put the box that held the cake on a worktop that was meant to hold food. I then unwrapped the box and pulled out the cake and put it on a chopping board.
Pierce and Charles leaned in to see the cake in good detail.
Pierce was the first to comment on it. "Hmm, the icing in the top and way it mixes in with the strawberry's is nicely done. How abo-!" He cut himself off as he looked at the middle of the cake where the icing was layered in. Pierce was aghast. "G-Goodness gracious! Look at the way that icing had been layered in!" He directed to Charles.
Charles looked at the middle of the cake. "W-What in the world!? It looks like the baker just cut the cake in half and spread the icing around it and slapped it back on!" He exclaimed in shock.
"That's not what you are meant to do?" I asked in wonder.
"No!" Both of the servants replied in shock, as if this was common knowledge to me.
"Dear me… I'm not even sure if this is edible…" Pierce said with horror.
"Indeed. I must even agree with that…" Charles replied.
"Aren't you both overreacting here?" I said with a sigh, as I pulled out a knife from a knife rack. I then carefully cut up the cake into slices and pulled one out; before then putting it on a plate to eat.
Pierce and Charles looked aghast at what I was doing, as if this was the biggest betrayal in their life. I got a fork, and stabbed a piece of the cake with the fork. I then lifted up the piece and put it into my mouth and began to chew it.
*chew*
*chew*
*gulp*
"Oh my! That was delicious!" I cried out in delight.
"Wha-?" Both servants said in sync. They then both took a slice and eat it as well.
"Oh wow! That WAS delicious!" They both shouted in joy when they finished swallowing.
"I could feel it melting in my mouth!" Pierce said happily.
"The way the cream and the strawberries were mixed together was superb!" Charles smiled.
"It was simply delicious. I wonder how much they would pay for the recipe? Then again, it's so nice I doubt they would just sell it to us like that." I said, sighing upon thinking about how nice that idea would be.
"Well I think that settles the debate then. It doesn't always matter how some food is made, as long as it tastes nice and nothing dangerous is put in accidentally." I addressed both men not long after.
"Yes that cake is more than enough proof." Pierce said. "Still though, I think we should at least make sure that what we are making new food, that we follow the cooking instructions." He scratched his head.
"Agreed." Charles replied. "Still though, I'm surprised that both creams were layered with each other so well, despite it not looking so good on the outside." Charles said as he looked at the inside of the cake, having a better view due to the cake now being cut.
"For a while now I've heard all about layering cream correctly. Just what are you talking about?" I wondered in deep thought after saying that.
"Ah glad you asked!" Pierce said. "It involves making sure the cream for the pastry in question is properly added on and that it looks nice. I was concerned about the cake before, as I saw that both creams were just put on without that much precision. It didn't look appealing to me – well until I tasted it of course."
"Oh… right of course." I nodded my head a little in understanding.
"Please allow me to demonstrate for you!" Charles announced, as he opened a cupboard near him and pulled out two small plastic bottles of cream. I could see that each one had a different colour of cream in them.
He then pulled out another chopping board, and held both bottles of cream close to the chopping board. He then began to gently squeeze both of the plastic bottles which caused cream to come out from the top of them. When he saw that happening, he began to lightly move his hands back causing the creams to create a smooth line.
I watched with mild interest, as he then began to move his hands over one another to create some cool patterns with the cream as they came out. Some swirls here and there.
He then put the two cords of the bottles together, which caused the two creams to create a colour that had a mixture of red and white as they came out.
As I was watching this with a bit of amusement, something suddenly came to me.
The idea hit me as hard as Gildarts kick a few months back.
It was seeing the way the creams came together that made me think…
Wait…
What if…!
Was that even possible!?
'T-There's no way!' My mind suddenly began to think about whether this was possible or not.
"Alright then, I think you've wasted enough cream there." Pierce said as he quickly yanked the bottles from Charles. "Let's not waste anymore shall we?" As he then put the bottles back in the cupboard.
"Yes… Yes that might work!" I whispered out in delight. "If I could get it to work then It'd be fantastic!"
Pierce and Charles gave each other a confused look. "Sir Philipe? What are you thinking about right now?" Charles asked in befuddlement.
"I've figured out out! You just helped inspire me there Charles! I've just thought of a way to help me with my magic crisis!" I yelled in delight.
"Really!? That magic crisis. The one that you went to the guild today to figure out?" Charles said with shock, him taken aback by this.
"The very one!" I was practically crying tears of joy due my problem being solved. "I may not have any idea on how to execute it, but I know a man who might! I'm heading back to the guild you guys! Thanks for that!" I shouted, as I ran out of the kitchen waving my hand to say goodbye.
I then ran as fast as I could back into town and towards the guildhall. I had made a brand new record and had made it to the guild in around near nine minutes! I was a man… Well boy in my case, on a mission.
I ran up to the guildhall and burst open the doors.
I saw that the brawl that started earlier was still going on! Was it actually the same brawl or was it a different one? Questions for later, as I immediately ducked and darted through the wizards that were fighting and made my way over to Master's office. I then knocked on the door to see if he was in.
A few seconds later, the door opened and I saw Master Makarov. The last few years since I had joined the guild and not been that kind to Master. Almost all of his light blond hair was now a grey colour, with only a few blonde parts remaining. The same applied to his thick moustache.
Also I was now taller then him.
Master was currently wearing some strange headphones over his ears. Clearly they were the reason why he hadn't interrupted the brawl yet. He simply couldn't hear the ruckus outside his room.
Master gave a surprised smile when he saw me, however he quickly scowled at seeing the brawl behind me.
"Would you brats be quiet and stop fighting! I told you all earlier today I was doing some reading - I mean, paperwork that was for the magic council!" He yelled out at the top of his lungs.
"Ah sorry Master!" "We'll be quiet now!" "I didn't mean to get involved…" "Well he started it! "Hey! You were the one who poured stuff into my beer pal!" "Shut up you-!" "That's what you two get for starting fights like that." "He says that he's reading, hah!"
"I don't care who started it! Just let me think for rest of today!" Master demanded.
The brawl quickly subsided so fast, that anyone who just walked in would be unable to tell that one had been happening seconds ago.
Master gave a sigh and then looked back up at me. "Now then, something you need me for Cade?" Master asked curiously.
"Yes Master!" I replied quickly. "I just figured it out today! The way to help my magic crisis!" I said in delight.
Master looked very shocked to hear that. "You did!? Come on in then I'm curious as to see how you figured it out." He move to the side and beckoned me into his office with a wave of his hand.
I then entered his office, and he closed the door behind him as I moved in. Not wanting to take a seat, I immediately went over what had happened.
"So I was at the guild earlier today trying io think of a solution to my issue here. Now I was getting nowhere, but then Quikora came up to me and gave me the idea of searching for inspiration from some of the common people in town." I started off.
"Help can come from the most unlikely sources." Makarov nodded in approval.
"Right!" I said with a bit of surprise at Master saying the same as Quikora earlier. "So I headed through town and tried to see if I could get any inspiration from the locals. Sadly I didn't get anything, so I headed home to get something to eat." I saw that Master was curious to see how this would go.
"Well, I won't explain how it happened, but the servants that work in my house were able to get me the inspiration I needed!" I explained with joy. "I need to layer my magic Master." I added.
"Layer…?" Makarov seemed confused by this.
Seeming his confusion, I chose to give a clearer answer. "Oh er, I meant layer as in combine my magic together before I exit the spell from my body. So I would already have casted my Henshin spell before I materialise my ice spell. Does that make sense?" I said nervously hoping that was a clear enough explanation.
"Ah yes, I know what you mean now!" Master spoke up. He then hummed to himself which perplexed me. "Hmm… Learning to cast different type of spells together like that is quite the challenge…"
"But not impossible?"
"No. Not impossible. But It's not something that I am not sure how to accomplish. I can cast different types of magic at once of course." Master then demonstrated, by holding out both his hands and firing off a bolt of fire and a gust of wind that swirled together. "Combining your spells together before they leave your body is quite different to that I'm afraid."
"I see… Well I won't let that stop me! How can I do it?" I spoke with my determination unwavering.
Nothing however, could prepare me for Master's next answer.
"I'm not sure. I'm sorry Cade, but I am not aware of any wizards that have tried this and succeeded…" Master informed me begrudgingly.
"O-Oh…" I said with surprise. "W-Well let me know if anything comes up please!"
"Well of course! This is Fairy Tale Cade, we always try to help each other out. This might be the only known way of getting your two spells to work successfully together." Master told me.
"Alright, thanks Master!" I smiled at the short man.
Well, a shame there was currently no way for me to immediately start learning how to layer may magic successfully. However, Master Makarov was on the lookout for me! I was sure I wouldn't have to wait long.
Right?
There we go! Another chapter finished! I actually found this chapter quite easy and fun to write, which surprised me as I was writing it. Feel free to leave a review if you did enjoy reading it just as much as I enjoyed writing it.
We now have the next major arc coming. Just saying this now, but this arc will be a lot slower when compared to the other arcs written here. Figured I should point that out before hand.
You would think that little section at the beginning with the two boys was some filler, but it will have some importance later on in this story. I bet you didn't expect Pierce and Charles to be the ones to give Cade his inspiration for how to solve his magic crisis huh? Was a nice surprise to have them help him out with his magic indirectly.
And so, with his dilemma somewhat solved, Cade will be waiting to see what he needs to do in order to combine his magic successfully.
We shall have to wait until the next chapter in order to see what that actually is of course. Hope you liked this chapter and I shall see you then!
Lypros Melfdan - Not even sure if you will see this, but I can at least say thank you for finding this story interesting.
