Chapter 59: A Surprise Visit

Year: X758. 26 years till Canon begins.

Cade POV:

"S-Sirius…" I breathed.

What was he doing here!? My mind then remembered about our last meeting several years ago.

"What are you doing here? How did you get here!?" I demanded with anger.

Sirius looked unamused. "Hmm. A simple 'hello Sirius' would be nice." He shrugged.

"Answer the question." I snapped with my gaze hardening.

Honestly, I had completely forgotten about Sirius years ago. It didn't help that he never showed up when he said that he would keep in touch with me. Also I had been busy with other things in my life, so it's natural that I would forget him.

Now that he was fresh in my memory and right here in front of me, I found him and his intentions (whatever they may be) to be quite suspicious. I had not forgotten the information that Aquarius had told me years ago regarding Ivy, Sirius and how Celestial Spirits work.

I was no longer a naïve ten year old boy that just chose to blindly accept deals from shady backyard Celestial Spirits. Now I was a young man looking for answers.

Sirius then had a relaxed look about him. "What question do you want to me answer?" He asked calmly.

I grunted – mostly because he had a point. There were SEVERAL questions I wanted him to answer.

"Alright, why have you shown up years after you said that you would keep in contact with me?" I questioned. While there were perhaps more important questions to be asked regarding the Celestial Spirit, this was one question that was bugging me right now.

Sirius opened his mouth to answer me. "First, I never said that I would keep in regular contact with you. I said that I wished to see your evolution as wizard." He spoke calmly. "Now as to why I haven't shown up for… a few years by the looks of things, seeing as you've grown quite a bit."

Sirius cleared his throat. "It is because time moves differently in the Celestial Spirit World compared to this world. It's only been a few months since I last saw you." He explained.

That… did make sense. Aquarius did say that time worked differently between our worlds. "Yes I knew that. Time is faster in your world right?" I said.

"I'm still trying to figure it out myself as I hardly get to fully experience the difference in time; but I believe around five minutes in the Celestial Spirit World equates to around one day in your world." Sirius explained.

'Well… I suppose he had a good reason as to why he is several years late.' I grunted with frustration. But I still have several questions for the man.

"Ok then. Next question: You may not know this, but I had a nice chat with Aquarius. The same Aquarius that is a Celestial Zodiac Spirit." I began. "She said something very interesting. She said that you weren't contracted to Ivy. How do you explain that!?"

Sirius was silent for a moment before he answered me. "How you somehow spoke with Aquarius without you being drowned underwater is beyond me. But to answer your question… No, I wasn't contacted to Ivy." Sirius said still remaining calm.

"I knew it! You were lying to me about something all those years ago!" I grinned smartly. "Now then… I suggest you explain yourself before I make a mess of my room." I warned him as I began to power up my magic.

Sirius just raised an eyebrow at me. "What do you plan on doing to me?" He questioned. Not of a mocking tone, but rather a curious one.

I gave a scowl at his calm nature. "What I'll do is send you back to the Celestial Spirit World! After that I'll throw away your key!" I stated firmly.

"You mean this key?" Sirius said as he pulled out a silver key from his pocket and twirled it in his hand.

I took a closer look at the key. Wait…

"What? That's your key!" I pointed at the key in his hand. How the hell does he have his key?! It should be under my bed in a box!

"Years of practise and rule breaking has meant I'm able to bring my Gate Key directly back to me. Something that other Celestial Spirits – even the Zodiacs cannot do." Sirius elaborated. "Going back to what you said about sending me back to the Spirit World, would I not just be able to come back to see you? I've just done it here haven't I?"

My eyebrow was twitching at Sirius responses to my questions. He was right, which frustrated me beyond belief. Thankfully that reminded me of a previous question I had for him.

"Well whatever! Tell me why you lied to me all those years ago!" I demanded to him in anger.

Sirius took a breath before he answered me. "To explain that to you, I'd have to start at the beginning." He offered.

"Fine by me." I glared as I crossed my arms.

"The truth is, I was not originally a Celestial Spirit. I was a human just like you." Sirius began.

That information stunned me to my core

"You what?" I wowed with shock. Sirius moved to continue his story before I could further question him.

"I know that years ago in the human world I was a living breathing human. I had been born, raised; done everything that a human would have done while we lived. However, I also died just like a human. Then I was reborn as a Celestial Spirit."

I opened my mouth to speak, not being able to contain my impatience. "But how?! You don't die and become a Celestial Spirit!" I exclaimed.

"You're right. Something I don't know what, but something happened to me that caused me to be reborn as a Celestial Spirit. It was when I was reborn that a startling realisation hit me: I couldn't remember anything about my past." Sirius gave a serious look.

"You… lost your memory…?" I whispered in disbelief.

Sirius just nodded his head at me. "Yes." He said softly. "When I was reborn, I was scared and on edge as to what had happened to me and about my current whereabouts. Before I could scream, the Celestial Spirit King appeared out of thin air. I felt overwhelmed in his presence, like he would strike me down where I stood. Instead, he told me that I had been born here as a Celestial Spirit and that I now had a Gate Key that had been sent to this world."

"I knew that I had been a human in my previous life before… I just knew it. It was - still is, a gut feeling inside of me. Unfortunately, I knew nothing like the year I was born, whether I had any family, or even how I died. I felt the worse thing was that my name was lost to me. The king dubbed me as Sirius The Human and he left not long after." Sirius concluded.

This… was a lot to take in. I had spent so long being annoyed at Sirius, but in reality he had been suffering. I did believe him here as he seemed to really sound genuine there with what he said.

"I'm… sorry that happened to you. Truly." I apologised sympathetically.

Sirius nodded and continued to speak. "I spent months and months in the Spirit World getting to know the Spirits and seeing what was around me. While I enjoyed what I saw, it felt hollow with my lost memories. One day when exploring the Celestial World, I found an exit point of sorts that led into this world. I am unsure if the Celestial Spirit King knows about it or not."

"And you used that to come into this world?" I questioned with interest.

"Indeed. I still knew that this world had all sorts of magic that could maybe help me with my memories. Issue was that I could only be in this world for so long, mainly because the Celestial Spirit King may find out and seal the exit point and seal it." Sirius elaborated. "With that in mind I was unable to do anything about my situation. Even now my memories are still missing." He said with shame. "While travelling I did locate my Gate Key which I secretly pocketed to stop anyone from making a contract with me."

"Yet when I travelled the world as much as I could, I learned of a magic that may help me with my problems. It wasn't Memory Magic – that was far too basic a magic to help me, but rather it was Enchantment Magic."

I suddenly jumped to attention. Figuratively of course.

"I learned while searching a great library to help me. I found a nearly worn out book that listed several forms of Lost Magic. While many of them were powerful it was the page on Enchantment Magic that caught my eye. Enchantments that could maybe heal my memory or reverse my becoming of a Celestial Spirit. It was the only option I had, so I pursued it."

"While I had lost my magic that I had as a human, I still had magic that I gained upon my rebirth as a Celestial Spirit. It is a special form of Detection Magic that allows me to locate certain types of magic as long as I have a sample of the magic. I needed to find an enchantment mage, but that was easier said than done considering my circumstances. I spent more and more months going between our worlds to find and locate one, but I only found more dead ends." Sirius continued.

"That is, until I made it to the northern continent. I learned there that they had a famous enchantment wizard who had died a heroic death. So I entered the catacomb that they were buried in and 'borrowed' a remaining hair from their head. Next I used the traces of magic that could be found on it on it to power up my magic. Whenever a form of Enchantment Magic would be used, I would be alerted and would head over to wherever it was casted to find the mage that possess the magic. Unfortunately I had only one shot at this. My Detection Magic can seemingly only be used once per magic."

Sirius gave me pleased look. "I'm sure you can figure the rest out by yourself."

"You detected when I first used Enchantment Magic." I said in realisation.

"That's right. I came as fast as I could, but it seems like it was a bit late. A few days perhaps? When I got there, I appeared on a rooftop and saw you running through some alleyways. I also saw your friend running through some of the other alleyways. When you came into a park, I dropped from the roof and made myself known to you. The rest is history." Sirius finished his story.

I took a deep breath to properly intake that information, before speaking up to Sirius.

"So let me get this straight: You've been wanting to stay close to me so that I can use my Enchantment Magic to fix your memory? Well if that's the case… why didn't you ask me when you first met me!? I would have been happy to help you!" I demanded with anger.

"I didn't think you would believe me or help me if I told you! You were still young then." Sirius argued. "Plus it seemed like you had your first encounter with Celestial Spirits from what I saw, it didn't look to be a pretty one."

I sighed and put my hand on my face. "Alright look. I'm sorry to disappoint you but I don't have any memory enchantments. At least not yet. That may change in the future." I informed the amnesiac spirit.

Sirius frowned. "Ah, I see…"

"I'll be honest with you Sirius. I have no idea if I even will be learning any memory related enchantments. It's… a complicated process." I scratched my head. "A memory sort of enchantment is what you need right? After that you'll leave me alone?" I questioned.

Sirius nodded. "That's right. Once my memory has returned our partnership will shall we say; be at an end."

"Ok good." My eyes flicked to Malvel's book behind me, before I turned back to Sirius. "Now before you go, I have a few more questions for you."

"That is fair considering how much I told you just there." Sirius agreed.

"This is my first question: This Celestial Spirit King. Just how observant is he of this world? Does he really not know what you have been up to?" I asked with skepticism.

"The Celestial Spirit King is a very observant and well informed person. They say that he can see what is going on in the human world with little effort on his part. I have heard that he can even appear if he feels his presence is necessary." Sirius said.

I got a chill down my spine when Sirius said that there. The idea of this seemingly all powerful being watching over everyone made me a bit uncomfortable right now.

"Considering that I have exited the Celestial World, taken my own Gate Key to stop wizards from forming contacts with me, travelled the human world and even committed what is essentially grave robbery, it is safe to assume that he doesn't know what I'm doing here." Sirius assured.

"Or he's been watching you the whole time."

Sirius gave me a stern look. "If he knew then he would have interfered by now. I certainly would not have met you."

"Well either he's content or he doesn't know." I noted. "Here's the next question: This exit point – the gateway between our worlds that you mentioned to me. Could you explain about it a bit more?" I requested.

"I am not sure how it came to be." Sirius started off. "It is deep in a secluded corner of the Celestial World. I think I am the only person or shall I say, Spirit to find it and use it. As for how it works, it is one way in a sense. I can exit the Celestial World and travel to this world, but I cannot take the gateway back to the Celestial Spirit World."

"Then how do you get back?" I questioned.

"It seems like as I do not have a contacted owner, yet am technically still meant to be in the Spirit World, I am able to close myself back to the Spirit World whenever I wish. Many contacted Spirits are unable to close their gates whenever they wish, most of the Zodiacs are able to do this whenever they wish though." Sirius explained.

"So there's no way for human to use it to get to the Celestial Spirit World?" I wondered with interest at the possibility.

"No, that would be a foolish and perhaps suicidal move Cade." Sirius said suddenly. "Humans are not allowed in the Celestial Spirit World without the Celestial Spirit King's permission. If you entered there, he would either banish you or perhaps try to strike you down." Sirius said with warning.

"Right. That would be a bad move." I nodded quickly, putting the idea out of my head.

"So, any more questions for me?" Sirius asked with interest.

"No… that's everything I was wondering." I said.

Sirius gave a low hum, before he spoke up to me.

"I do have a question for you Cade. Just a quick one." I beckoned him to ask. "Have you broken through your Seal?"

"My what?" I questioned with puzzlement. "I've never even heard of that before."

Sirius sighed a little. "Ah. I hear it is a thing that all wizards of Enchantment Magic have deep within them. I read about it while learning about the magic. I read that it allows the users of the magic to access greater power that was locked away. Unfortunately I found nothing that describes how to unlock it, or what power you would access by unlocking it."

"Is that really true? I have greater power within me?" I asked with interest, leaning forwards a little.

"According to the books I read then yes. Though again; I found no ways that it can be unlocked." He reminded me sadly.

I nodded slowly. "Right… I see."

I had fallen into my own thoughts about this Seal within me, so I was caught off guard a little when Sirius spoke up to me. "So… you will let me know if you have any memory relating enchantments?" He inquired with deep interest.

"Hm?" I thought about this for a moment, before answering the Spirit.

"Alright, I will. But if the Celestial Spirit King appears anytime and asks me to put this agreement of ours off, then that's exactly what I'm doing." I carefully said. "Oh, and no more secrets." I said with a warning tone.

Sirius seemed happy with that. "Good, good. Thank you Cade. Now, you should be having this back I think."

Sirius handed me his Celestial Spirit Key. "I can't risk coming here as much as I want. I've said before that there are dangers. When you want to see me again just learn a basic understanding of Celestial Spirit Magic."

I gave a sigh as I took the key. "I guess it's better than you showing up whenever you wish… I only plan on calling you if something big comes up that relates to our agreement." I stated to Sirius.

Sirius simply nodded. "That is fine by me. If there is nothing else that you are wondering, then I shall be leaving."

"Yes, you can go now Sirius." I said.

"Then farewell Cade. Till next we meet." Sirius bowed his head, as he disappeared into a bright silvery light, leaving me alone in my room.

When he left I collapsed back on my seat and thought back on these events.

Did I make the right deal with Sirius there? I mean… I couldn't just leave him there when the possibility was there to help him.

No. Being a guild wizard meant that if the option was there to help someone, then I would try to do so if I could. I did the right thing here.

It was the fact that he had lied to me that made me a bit on edge. If he had told the truth, I would be a bit less nervous about all this. Though I suppose saying that a Celestial King will possibly be watching you would be a bit much for a ten-year-old boy to handle.

The way I see it, if Sirius wanted me dead, he would have just killed me in my sleep years ago. Plus I was sure I was strong enough to defeat him if it came down to it.

I rubbed my face with my hands and sat back in my seat. There was not much else I could do today for the trial tomorrow. It was coming close to sunset now with small flakes of snow falling from the sky that I could see out my window. I had done plenty of research and preparation. All I could do is wait now.

"Cade? Were you talking to someone in there?" Came the voice of my mother from behind my door.

"It's nothing." I lied to her.

"Well dinner is almost out. Make sure to come down." She said as she then moved away from the door.

I sighed as I stood up from my seat. At least I had a good dinner before the trial tomorrow. I had to get up early to be there at the train station. Not much time to have breakfast.

As I moved to exit my room, I thought on the trial tomorrow. Here's hoping everything went smoothly and according to how I had been planning for it.

'Phew. Haven't been this nervous before in my life I think.' I thought as a drip of sweat rolled down my neck.

I was currently dressed and making my way down to the train station for the trial.

I had woken up at a good time and had some toast and some coffee for breakfast, before eating some fruit afterwards. I was then wished good luck by mother, Pierce and Charles. The trial would take around a few hours to complete and we would be back here by sundown if all went well.

I was wearing some mostly light and comfortable clothing. A short-sleeved shirt that was coloured light red, while I wore some shorts that were coloured dark blue. For my footwear, I wore some nice shoes that were easy to fit on, but wouldn't slip off if I was running. To protect my heels, I wore some white ankle socks.

I chose this sort of clothing due to the hot summer climate of Tenro Island. I didn't want to be sweating while I was fighting for S-Class.

Of course, the downside of this was that I was freezing my insides off due to his cold it was in Magnolia! It had been snowing quite lightly last night, and the current temperature certainly showed that. I had to run to keep warm.

While I was running to the station, a great sense of nervousness began to take over me. This was a big moment for me and my future in the guild. Perhaps most would be excited for this, but I was getting butterflies in my stomach.

Arriving at the train station and I saw most of the guild there ready to see us off for the trial. Scarlet and Frag were also there waiting to leave. Master Makarov, Quikora, Ivan and Gildarts were also there waiting for the train.

I noticed that Frag had came up to see how I was doing. "Hey Cade." He greeted me. "How you feeling for today?" He asked.

"I'm feeling ready for what's about to come." I answered with a grin. "But how do you feel?" I bounced the question back.

Frag shrugged his shoulders at me. "Me? Oh I'm confident that I've got what it takes today." He then looked over my clothing. "What's with the summer gear? Doubt Tenro Island is in the middle of a desert." He questioned.

I smirked at that. So Frag didn't know about the climate huh?

"Oh I just did some reading up and felt like some light and comfortable clothing would be best here." I said with a small smile. I looked over and saw that Scarlet was also wearing some rather warm and woolly clothing due to the cold weather in Magnolia.

Frag just nodded his head at that. "Er, right. Anyway, it's looking like the train will be here any minute now." He said as he looked out on the tracks ahead of us.

"How much do you know about Tenro Island?" I wanted to see how much Frag knew about the island before we became rivals when we stepped foot on the island.

"Eh, not much." He answered. "I did learn that the First Master's grave is on the island and there is some hostile creatures on there, but that's about it."

Excellent. The less he knew, the better for me!

I was going to ask Frag another question, but I saw the train coming into the station. When it halted at our platform, Master Makarov raised his voice for everyone to hear.

"Ok then! That's us away for the trial! We should be back here for sundown, you kids keep the guild in one piece you hear me!" Master yelled.

There were several laughs and cheers when Master yelled that there. He then turned to us three candidates standing at the train. "Let's get going then! Hop aboard the train!" He declared as he and the other S-Class Wizards entered the train.

Me, Frag and Scarlet entered the train and saw the doors close behind us. As the train slowly made its way away from Magnolia, I waved to some of the guild members watching us leave. Eventually the train picked up more speed and we were off to Hargeon.

There wasn't that much small talk from me, Frag and Scarlet during the ride. I think we were mostly nervous to speak in case we accidentally revealed any sensitive strategies we had planned. Frag certainly did that just then. We still talked of course, but I could tell that we were all a little nervous of what was to come.

When we eventually arrived at Hargeon, we all exited the train and Master Makarov spoke up.

"Now then, we shall be heading down to the port to catch a boat I have hired to take us to Tenro Island. Along the way we shall be picking up a friend of mine that will be coming to watch the trial." Master stated.

The S-Class wizards didn't seem all that surprised by this news, but me Frag and Scarlet were.

"Friend?" Scarlet said. "Will he playing a part in the trial as well?"

Master shook his head. "Not necessarily. He will just be coming to watch the trial."

"Where is he?" I wondered as I looked around the station. "He is waiting for us down at the port. I told him ahead of time to meet us here. Now then, if you would all follow me." Master Makarov led the way to where the Hargeon boats were.

We exited the station and made our way down into and through Hargeon. We passed several shops, and I still saw that there was still only one magic shop!

As we walked, I saw the beach where I had my first ever fight as a wizard. I smiled back at the memory of me still using my Ice Magic back then and my enchanted swords.

How time flies, now I'm here ready to become an S-Class wizard!

When we got to the docks where all the boats were, we saw several people moving in and out of all sorts of sea vessels. Ships, small boats, home boats and many other kinds.

Master Makarov led us to a decently sized ship that was ready to take us out to Tenro Island. There was a plank that led up and onto the ships deck, however, there was a person standing next to it looking around as if he was waiting for someone.

He was a rather elderly old man with an almost rectangular face. What was interesting about him was that his hair was almost shaped like a tree, with some branches and… was that green puffs of hair or leafs? I couldn't really tell. He wore a nice brown cloak that covered his whole body, leaving only his head visible.

When he saw us, he let out a smile. "Ah there you are Makarov! I thought I was at the wrong ship for a moment." He chuckled as we made our way over to him, Master Makarov being ahead of us all.

"Good to see that you were able to make it." Master was happy to see the man here. I guess this was our guest that we were taking to the island? He seemed like a nice enough fellow.

I swore I heard a few whispers from the others that were next to me, but I couldn't make them out. Did they know this man?

The man then gave us all a quick glance. I felt I saw his gaze linger on me for a bit longer than the others, before he turned back to Master Makarov.

"Shall we get going then? I can hardly wait to see the trial." The old man remarked.

"Yes, let's all hop aboard the ship and head to Tenro Island." Master stated.

We all then boarded the ship, with me and the old man being the last people to walk up the plank to the ships deck. Before I walked up, I paused to take a look at the man again.

You know… for some strange reason, I SWORE I've seen this guy before. He just looks so familiar. I don't think he was a client on a job I took…

The man gave me a curious look. "Is something wrong young man?" He asked politely.

"Oh no, it's just I thought that I had saw you before. You just… look kind of familiar." I said, before I quickly apologised and moved up the plank to the ship, the old man following behind me.

When we all made it onto the ship, Master Makarov picked up the plank and jumped up to the wheel of the ship. He then began to spin it and the ship moved away from port. The sails were down, and we were picking up some surprising speed. Was Master using his magic for this?

We then embarked off to Tenro Island! In a few moments I would be on the island that would set me on a course for S-Class.

The journey to the island took around an hour. Along the way I began to feel the sweltering heat and hot climate that was around the island. I could see that Frag and Scarlet were beginning to boil in their clothing. They both removed as much as they could without being too exposed to everyone else to withstand the temperature.

As we kept travelling, I saw that Master and the old man had retreated into a small and private quarters to talk among themselves. Whatever it was that they were talking about, they didn't chat for long as we later came up on Tenro Island.

Everyone stood on the main deck of the ship and took in the sight before us. Like in the book I read, Tenro Island had the huge tree and craggy rocks with waterfalls around the edges. I could hear mutters from Frag and Scarlet; them seemingly seeing the island for the first time.

As we came up to the island, I could see a small beach that had a rather small port for the ship to dock at. The main forest of the island all around the beach. Master jumped back up to the ships wheel and brought the ship into the port using a mixture of spinning the wheel frantically and using some wind magic on the ships sails.

The ship then docked and I could hear an anchor be let loose and drop to the shore below us. The plank was then led down onto the dock, allowing us all to disembark the ship. We all walked down the plank and walked onto the small beach that was here.

Me, Frag and Scarlet were all close to the main dock, while Master Makarov, the old man, Gildarts, Quikora and Ivan were all in front of us. The old man looked particularly happy to be here on the island.

I saw that there was a faded brown pathway that led deep into the forest of Tenro Island. I'm guessing that led across the island.

Master Makarov then cleared his voice.

"Alright, now pay attention you three. I'm only going to say this once: The trial here will be split up into two parts. The first part will involve a race around Tenro Island starting from here. You will follow a pathway that will lead to where the second part of the trial will be held. There you will face one of Fairy Tail's S-Class wizards for the second half of the trial." Master explained carefully.

'So THAT'S what was meant by moving fast during the first part of the trial.' I realised internally.

"I want the three of you to remember this: Even if you are the last person standing, you can still fail the trial. Failure to make it to the end of the race within one hour will result in disqualification." Master said carefully. "As for the second part, only the S-Class wizard that you are fighting will be the one to determine whether you are worthy to proceed forwards or not."

I made sure to remember what Master said. Every second counted here during this trial. Especially during the first part.

"And so, the trial has officially begun."

I blinked.

"Wait, it's started, NOW?" I said with surprise.

"Well of course! Get going you three!" Master yelled at me, Frag and Scarlet.

The three of us then immediately started to sprint and scramble ahead into the forest, following the pathway that was on the ground. I sprinted as fast as I could, making sure not to slip up.

'This is it! I have to prove here that I have the speed to make it to S-Class!' I thought with determination. 'I'll make it to S-Class!'

And so it begins! The race for S-Class!

I do hope you enjoyed this chapter. Make sure to leave a review!

Hundred Year Quest is finally here! Looking forward to seeing how it's going to be adapted.

We finally got to see Sirius again! It's only been 40+ chapters, but hey he's back! With some more answers and truths from the reincarnated spirit, Cade has decided to help the lost man with his memory crisis. Here's hoping Sirius doesn't leave for a few more years then come back at the worst possible moment.

We also got to see the beginning of the S-Class trials! With the first part of the trial underway, Cade is now on a race for S-Class. Has running away from the Rune Knights prepared him enough for this? Will he make it to the second part of the trial?! If so, who will he face?!

Well, that will be answered in the next chapter. I do all so hope you liked this one, and I'm looking forward to seeing you in the next!
