Esper and Luz have been called into the living room by King and they entered to see him with a sock stuck on his snout. He was struggling as Luz starts to record him with her phone, "And here we have the most fearsome creature in the world, the King of Demons! Facing his natural enemy, the ducky sock!" Esper starts to laugh and Luz turns the camera to her briefly, her form being caught in the recording. She turns the camera back to the small demon as he still struggled with the sock.

King manages to tear the sock off his nose, ripping it to shreds. "Ha! Where are you now, ducky sock!"

Luz smiled at the little demon, "So, why'd you call me here again?"

King climbed up on a table, "Oh, yeah! Human Luz, you've been so obsessed with witchcraft that you haven't learned anything about my kind. Prepare yourself for..." The small demon rips off a curtain to reveal a corkboard showing off photos of various demons and he puts on a hat, "Demons 101. Demons like me are grim tricksters of the twilight, creatures of sulfur and bone!"

Luz zoomed in on her camera and Esper joked, "And cute little paws!"

King sighs, "And cute little paws... True. We live only to create chaos and misery. Our only weaknesses are purified water and passive-aggressive comments. Sometimes!"

Luz giggles at him, "Oh, you guys are sensitive."

King posed dramatically, "Even demons have inner demons. The most powerful demon of all is the Snaggleback. He's a—" Luz puts a filter over the picture of the snaggleback, "Bad boy!"

King was getting frustrated, "Luz, pay attention. This information could save your life someday! You too, Esper."

Esper frowned, folding her arms, "Hey, come on, I'm paying attention. Luz is the one on her phone!"

Luz: "No, no. I am so paying attention. This is my paying attention face, see? Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm."

Lightning crashes through the sky, scaring Esper and King due to the sudden noise. THe small demon had jumped into her arms because of the noise. Luz, Esper and King then looks outside the window, seeing gray clouds.

King scratches his face, "Uh-oh. Looks like it's gonna rain." Esper loosens her grip on King, "Oh, that's not that bad then." Luz gasps as she heads to the door, "I love the rain!"

King jumped out of Esper's arms to try to get to Luz, "Hey, wait!"

Luz opens the door, taking in the feeling of rain to come, "I always love feeling the first few drops in my hair!" She then kneels down to talk to a flower, "I bet you do too, little buddy."

However, then a raindrop falls onto the flower, making the flower wilt and die instantly.

Luz looked at the flower, shocked, "WHAT?"

Eda emerged from the forest, running to the house, "Boiling rain! Everybody inside now!" She then grabs Luz's arm, tossing her inside. When Luz was tossed inside, Esper grabbed King to move him out of the way so he wouldn't get hurt.

Eda sighs, "Phew! That was close! But the important thing is, you didn't get hurt!"

Luz groans, things still falling on top of her, "Yup! ...Not hurt..."

As the rain continued outside, King had put a bandage on a burn on Luz's arm and one on his own skull, calling them boo boo buddies. Eda talked about making preparations for the night so Hooty and the rest of the house will be safe from the boiling rain. The redheaded witch awkwardly rubbed her hands, as Luz and Eda talked about the weather on the Boiling Isles. Upon being done with the sphere of magic she was making, Eda looked towards the girl in the yellow hoodie. She started to establish some rules, "Until the boiling rain stops, no one is allowed outside tonight. Esper, may you come here for a moment?"

Esper looked at the flowers melting outside due to the acid rain, "Well, I was supposed to have a sleepover with Willow today but I guess that's not happening. What do you need me to do, Eda?"
Eda put up a force field over her head as well as Esper's, "You're going to help me make a force field, come here. This force field spell should protect the house from boiling rains and made-up demons." The pale witch then expanded her force field for the young girl to walk to her. Esper nodded, walking closer to her mentor. Eda had Esper grab her staff below her hand, "And you just do this aaaaaand!"
When they stamped the staff on the ground, an area of Esper's leg started glowing white. An orange force field started to form around Hooty, protecting the Owl House from the threatening rain. Esper was impressed by what she has seen and loved that she got to help, since she is Eda's apprentince after all. Eda smiled at the young witch, "Nice work, kid."
The glowing area of Esper's leg subsided, not being noticed at all between the two witches. Luz hadn't noticed but King did, he squinted. But because he wasn't sure what exactly it was that he saw, he shook his head.
Esper smiled back at her and followed her inside. Luz had seen the two perform the spell together and wanted to do that too, so she was extra determined to learn a spell from Eda as well.
"Wow! Some day I want to be as cool as Eda the Owl Lady. Magical, sassy, surprisingly foxy for her age. Hey wait a minute, why do people call you Eda the Owl Lady?"

Eda smirked, "Because I'm so wise!"

Hooty butted into the conversation, "Cause she coughs up rat bones!"

King jumped into Esper's arms yet again, "I think it's 'cause she gets distracted by shiny objects."

Eda frowns at him, "No, I don't." King then takes out a pen and clicks it, and the diamond on top of it glows.

Eda's eyes suddenly sparkled, "It sparkles and shimmers, it shines and delights. I must have it for my nest..." She pounces for the pen, but Esper pulls King away from her path and she falls on her face on the ground.

Luz helps Eda up, "You have a nest? I want a nest! Nest party!" Eda groans as she walks inside, "Ugh, that force field took a lot outta me..."

King laughs while still in Esper's arms, "Uh-oh. Moving a little slow! Age finally catching up to ya?" Eda then shoves his hat down his face, blinding him. "Ah! Darkness!" The redhead holding him helps him by lifting the hat back up.

Luz turned to Esper, "This is perfect! Since we'll be stuck in the house all night, Eda won't have any excuse not to teach me a spell." She followed Eda as Esper followed, still holding King.

King squirmed in Esper's arms, "But don't you wanna finish our lesson? I was gonna let you scratch a demon's tummy. Me!"

Luz rubbed the back of her neck, "Oh uh... Sorry, King but uh... Magic."

Esper put King down, "Aw sorry about that, little buddy. Luz uh... Has always wanted this since she was a kid. I promise, I'll listen to one of your lessons later." She then followed Luz and Eda. Esper knew he was sad about Luz not wanting to learn more about demons so she figured she would have enough time to learn from him later. Luz had been trying to convince the Owl Lady into teaching her magic, annoying Eda. She managed to convince her by offering her the sparkling pen in exchange. Eda relents, having Luz sit down in front of her. Esper was about to walk to her room when Eda stopped her, "Esper, sit down next to Luz. I really don't want to repeat this lesson later."

The redhead sighed in annoyance and sat down next to Luz. Eda continued to speak, "If you want a witch's staff like mine, don't make me repeat myself. Witch's staffs have power embedded into them.

Luz interrupted her, making grabby hands, "Gimme!"

The Owl Lady shook her head, "But before one is earned, every witch needs to know how to cast spells on their own. Now..." She throws her staff to the kitchen, "Tonight I will show you how to create... light." She draws a circle with her finger, which then turns into a small ball of light in front of the girls. It disappears after a few minutes.

King frowns, being bored with his own drawings, "Yawn! Who needs another boring spell lesson when you could be learning all the fun ways a demon could kill you. Look how teethy this one is! Bite, bite!"

Luz frowned at him, "Be quiet. I need to focus."

The young witch shushed the both of them, making them both sit down to focus on their own task. King sat sadly, alone with his drawings.

Eda points a finger in the air, "Thank you, Esper. Now, humans think magic is made out of thin air, but that's stupid. Everything comes from something. Let me ask you, kid. Where do you think magic comes from?"

Luz squints as she thinks, "Uh, from the heart?"

Eda smiles, "Actually, you're right. Luz gasps, excited as she thinks of her fantasy series that revolve around magic coming from the power of love.

The Owl Lady pulls a diagram of a witch's heart out of her hair, showing it to Luz, "No, really, it comes from a sac of magic bile attached to a witch's heart." Eda looks at Esper and then to Luz, seeing just how different the girls really are, "Actually wait a minute, kid. Do you have a magic bile sac? I know Esper does but do regular humans?" Esper shrugs at Luz, "Oh, so that's what the doctors saw when they took a look at my heart. They thought it was a dangerous lump." Eda gives her a laugh, "I mean, in a way it is. For your opponents!" Esper laughs at this but it makes Luz look sadly at the floor. As she is a regular human and doesn't have a bile sac. The Owl Lady then stretched, walking to her room before Luz stopped her.

Luz then looks up at Eda, taking out her phone, "Please, Eda, just one more time." Esper gestures to Luz, vouching for her best friend, "Aw come on Eda, you've shown me a few spells already, can you just show Luz one more time?"

The older witch sighed as Luz starts recording, "Smile! You're on camera. Come on! One more spell won't kill you."

Eda groaned, "Fine. Now, you see, the... Spell circle is really key because—" She starts to fall, "Ooh, boy."
As Eda begins to faint, Esper moves underneath her, catching her. She tightens her grip on the older woman, "Woah! Eda, are you okay?" Luz is surprised as the speed Esper was able to move at. Her mentor did not respond to her question.

King jumped to Esper's shoulder, poking at her face, "Welp, looks like one more spell killed Eda."

Both girls looked to King with wide eyes, he then laughed as he was just joking. Luz stops recording as she moves to help Esper, "Oh, my gosh. My obsession with spells knocked out Eda. I'm a monster." Esper shook her head, noticing that Eda is still breathing, "Not yet you are. Luckily she's only knocked out, come on, we should probably get her to bed." Her friend nodded, helping Esper lift Eda to her room and then to her bed, which happened to be an actual bed. King moved an animal skull that was on the nest so she could sleep more comfortably.
Luz sighed as she put a blanket over Eda, "Sorry for pushing you, Miss Eda. Please don't hurt me when you wake up."

The three then left the room with King now trying to get the two of them to learn about demons again. The human shook her head, taking out her notepad, "Not now, King. I want to figure out this spell. But if I don't have a magic sac, what's the point? I'll just be twirling my fingers around un-magically forever." Esper layed a hand on her shoulder, "Hey come on, I'm sure you can do it somehow."

King pouted, "Why do you want to learn magic so bad, anyway, Luz? I can get Esper, she's a full on witch. But you?"

Luz sighs, "I was a nobody back home. But becoming a witch is my chance to be someone. Do you know what it's like to have no one take you seriously?"
Esper grimaces, remembering all the times she and Luz had been picked on by the other kids at school.

King sighs as thunder rumbles in the background, "If I help you learn that spell, could we finish our lesson?"

Luz puts her phone away, "Oh, yes, yes. You can teach me about demons all week if you help me learn this spell! You too Esper?"

Esper pointed to herself, "Me too?"

King: Well, she said witches used to do magic differently, so there has to be a way, right? And I have a theory. Every day I notice Eda sneaking drinks of this special elixir, see? Then she always gets a boost of energy, see? I think that's where she gets her powers. Right Esper? You've had some of it before!"
The redhead remembers back to when Eda taught her the fireball spell, she did give her an elixir, "Oh yeah! She said I needed one because I haven't used my magic in a long time. Maybe it can work the same for Luz! Though I haven't had to drink one since..."

King nodded, "True but you are a young witch! You're probably bursting with energy! Maybe Eda just needs some in her old age! And I know where to get some!"

The human smiled as King then ran off to Eda's room. He was quiet as he could as he grabbed the golden elixir. He almost felt guilty but didn't, handing it to Luz without thinking of the potential consquences. Esper shrugged as Luz prepared to drink it, "Well, bottoms up!"
Luz smiled as she prepared to drink the potion, "Wow. I can't believe I'm about to learn magic! Real magic! This is historic!"

...Until a crash of thunder rang through the air, startling Luz and causing her to drop the elixir. Both her and Esper tried to catch it before it fell onto the ground, cracking open and spilling out on the floor.
Luz groaned as King tried to cheer her up. Esper shrugged, "Hey, it's okay. Maybe we can ask Eda when she wakes up-" But before she could finish her sentence, Hooty screamed in horror. He sounded like he was in pain so the trio ran to him. They saw that his door was off it's hinges and he seemed to be knocked out... Something came in while the three were busy trying to give Luz a chance to learn magic. King was excited, seeing this as a chance to teach Luz and Esper about demons if one had found it's way into the home. Oh and protect Eda.

Luz shook her head, "Uh wait a minute, you want us to go towards the creepy noises? No way!"

Her redheaded friend then spoke up, "Actually, you did tire Eda out so bad that she's now knocked out and defenseless so we should go protect her if there is a demon inside."

The human sighed as they then decided to gear up. Luz and King tapped pillows to themselves as they did the same to Esper. Esper then put on some long white gloves and picked up a frying pan as her weapon. Luz grabbed a hockey stick and with everyone geared up, they headed towards the old lady's room... Only to see that she wasn't there.
The three started to freak out as there were claw marks on her nest. King decided to go out to get his book on demons and Esper went with him, not wanting to leave the young demon alone. Until they turned back around and noticed that Luz was gone, she had been taken by whatever was inside the house with them. Esper started to panic, "Luz! Luz, where are you?" She started to search the room for any sign of her friend.

King, convinced that it is a Snaggleback ran to the closest with Luz's left behind shoe for a weapon, "There's nowhere for you to run! Snaggleback? Wow. You are a lot shorter in person.

The Snaggleback in the closet started to stammer, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I-I just needed a place to hide from the rain!"

King: Then why did you break down our door and take Luz?"

Esper lifted her bed from the other side of the room, "Yeah! That's not cool, man. Bad Snaggleback!"

The creature was confused, "I-I didn't do any of that stuff. I snuck in through a window just now."

King: Huh? Well, then what...

Suddenly the Snaggleback is picked up by a much bigger demon, "Oh, no! A twist!" He is then eaten and his shell was spit out, the monster was terrifying to the witch and the demon. They were backed into a corner as King shouted at the beast, "Stay back. Hey, hey. I am the king of demons, okay? And as such, I demand you to barf my friends back up!" Seeing that the creature was still growling at them, Esper and King run out of the room. Right as they were about to turn a corner, King was snatched by Luz's arm. She was safe, just hiding from the monster after she tripped and lost her shoe. Luz and King then realized that the demon had to Eda, as the elixir she drinks once per day is actually used to keep her curse under control and she was not able to drink it today due to being too tired. While the human was able to grab King, she was not able to stop Esper, who is still running from the monster.

The large demon then smelled something that enticed it to go into another room, luckily giving Esper enough time to get away from it and into the living room.
The redheaded witch relaxed, seeing that the demon was no longer chasing her. She struggled to look in the dark, she figured she should probably find one of King's books on demons in order to help combat the monster that got in the house. The young witch made a circle in the air, forming a small fire underneath it. She then kept the circle floating over her hand, letting her move the fire as it stayed within the circle, allowing her to see. She looked around the living room, hoping to find some sort of book while she was in there.

Soon she found what she was looking for, only to realize that the book was placed ontop of the board that King left out. The board was taller than her so Esper had to stretch her arm forward, the redhead put the fire in her hand out so she could try with both hands. However because she was taking so long, the beast was able to come back, finding her quickly due to it's night vision. Esper reaches for the book, not paying attention to the creature before her. She slowly looked up at the monster, lightning from the outside storm brightened the room. This let Esper see the monster's features. She noticed the creature's fully black eyes and slicked back hairstyle. Her eyes narrowed, she couldn't remember where she saw the same features before... But she was being attacked at the moment and she didn't want to set fire to the house so she grabbed a nearby broom.
She pushed at the giant demon with the broom, "Back! Get out of here, this isn't your house!" However, the monster was unfazed, it raised it's paw and hit the broom sideways. It had snapped Esper's weapon into two pieces. Esper looked at the broken piece of wood, "Well... That's a-" She then throws the wood at the creature's face, "Bit of a problem! Luuuuuz! King!"

She runs past Luz and King in their fort, who have also been hiding from the monster. Esper was going to run to hide with them but she realized that if she did, it would lead the monster right to them. So she made the difficult decision to run from the room, leading the creature into the hallway to keep them safe.

King, "What is she doing!"

Luz looked up, "Oh no, Esper! King, we need a plan. That thing might eat her if we don't do something!"

King then nods, noticing the creature's black eyes and realizing that it should be sensitive to light. Luz's camera was broken from when it fell out of her pocket earlier, as the creature came to their foot after being distracted from Esper. But Luz then saw something... A sort of pattern over Eda's light spell circle. A glyph of some sort. Tracing over the pattern, it allowed Luz to make a ball of light, just like the spell. With this realization, King and Luz came up with a plan.
The duo discuss the plan as Esper continues to run. King shouts, "Esper! Catch! Hey ugly, over here!" The redhead ran towards King's voice, not being able to see too much because of the darkness but she saw the pen he was holding due to the light on it. She caught it and lifted it above her head to get the monster to continue chasing her. Exhausted from having to run for so long, she tripped near the ladder Luz was perched on. Esper turns, using her arm to shield herself from the beast as Luz shouts, "I'm sorry Eda! But this is for your own good!" Luz smacks the wall, shining an extremely bright light in the monster's face. She had drawn a pattern on the wall, a light glyph that was used to knock out the beast-like Eda.
The three then dragged her back to her nest bed, letting her lay down with a straw in another elixir, allowing her to drink it.
Eda grabbed the potion, confused, "Hmm? I was looking for that!"

King rubbed the back of his neck, "Actually, we found an extra one in your closet.

Eda: King? King! You stole my elixir? I ought to break every bone in your—"

Esper was sitting on the floor, still tired, "Shh! Look over there." Luz was drawing down glyphs, summoning small balls of light that filled the room. Her smile was tired.

Eda was astonished, "Wow! How is she doing that?"

Esper shrugged, surprised that Luz was able to do magic at all. King spoke up, "I don't know, but she did it all on her own. Hey, I, uh, kind of messed a bunch of things up back there. And I just wanted to say I'm sorry."

Eda frowned, disappointed in her roommate, "Well, you better be. I got a long list of disgusting chores with your name on it, King! But it's not entirely your fault. I haven't been completely honest with you guys..."

Esper shifted to look at Eda, giving her her full attention. Eda continued, "When I was younger, I was cursed. I don't know exactly how it happened, all I know is that if I don't take my elixir... Well, that's why people call me the Owl Lady. No one likes having a curse, but if you take the right steps, it's manageable."

Esper looked concerned as Luz gasped, "Whoa! So are you okay?"

Eda sighed, patting Esper's head, "There's nothing for you kids to worry about. It's all under control, and as long as no one steals my elixir—King—then I'm fine. But, hey, look at this. A human doing magic. Good on you, kid."

Luz smiled at King, "I had some encouragement from a great teacher." She smiled at Esper as well.

The redhead started to lay down, feeling just how exhausted she has gotten from running from the cursed Eda and helping her put up the force field.
Esper fully relaxed, exhausted. Finally able to take a nap after her long day as King and Luz went to go help Hooty and Eda went to sleep...
