The start of this book takes place on episode 9 of "KONOSUBA -An Explosion on This Wonderful World!" 12~ minutes in, for more information on the beginning of the story please watch that, and for those who haven't watched the show, here's what you need to know. The start of the fanfic is when Megumin(A powerful mage that uses explosion magic) is heading to Axel(A city for starting adventurers) and is confronted by Arnes, a major general of the demon king named Wolbach and is wanting the cat who Wolbach turned herself into. Yunyun is a dear friend of Megumin's even if Megumin would never admit it, Chomusuke (Wolbach's cat form) likes living with Megumin and doesn't want to be a part of the war that's happening.

As Megumin stood her ground Arnes flew into the sky holding Chomusuke, charging up her explosion magic. Megumin knew what she had to do, she started to charge up her explosion too and when she reached her max she blew it at her. When she did this Chomusuke bit Arnes arm causing her to use her magic early, when to two explosions clashed with each other Arnes flew out of the way knowing that her magic wasn't concentrated enough, not like it mattered she only put in 10% of her power into it she had plenty of energy to move around, she knew how much magic Megumin had and assumed she was going to put a lot of her magic into it. When the two explosions clashed there was a massive shake in the earth, and Megumin collapsed.

Arnes then flew over to Megumin and proceeded to stand over her and look down, "I gave you all the chances in the world to give lady Wolbach to me and this is what happens when you just don't listen. Besides your magic managed to do a pretty good explosion except for the fact that it killed you in the process, maybe you should be more conservative with your explosions, I mean I am a sizeable opponent I guess but you should still hold out for the rest of the fight in case, well, this happens." She ended it by looking at the smoke that was still taking a while to clear up, "any last words?" As arrogant as she was acting she still showed chivalry.

"Yeah." Megumin managed to get out, "Explosion magic is only any good if you spend all of your energy into it, if you don't then it wasn't an explosion." she said laying not able to move a muscle.

The lady paused while looking at the girl who was moments away from death, "Well just know that you making a 'real explosion' is going to cause your death and going to make your friend be tortured for more information until we have everything we need to know about how you guys got lady Wolbach, rather that or until we figure out how to make her not a cat anymore, so yeah that's what a 'real explosion' does." Megumin was horrified by what she just heard and couldn't even speak.

"I-I-I did-d-n't do anything I swear!" Yunyun stammered as she started to cry and fell to her knees, "I just wanted to help Megumin with her cat, I don't know anything…" she started to lose her voice as the reality of the situation set in, falling even further to the ground, hands holding her up.

"I'm not going to trust you like that, we're first going to have to teach you a lesson, then we are going to find out what you really know, after that we'll let one of Vanir's demon kin have you." Arnes said apathetically, "Cursed bind", Yunyun was then chained up unable to move or use magic, Arnes then got out a piece of paper and wrote 'Liar' on it and stuck it on Yunyun's chains "Teleport", as Yunyun disappeared Arnes started to fly into the sky, during this Megumin managed to turn herself around to see what was happening before she died. "Let's see how you like an explosion that uses half of my mana", a black orb quickly went above her and rings in the sky having the symbol of an explosion, 7 layers tall and multiple chains circling each one, and of course, black circling all of it going from Arnes to the layers.

Megumin looked at the explosion that was going to happen and knew that she was dead, her last words that she muttered before the explosion encased her were "Conservative use of explosions, huh. I might try that." From a young age Megumin has been in love with explosion magic, especially after watching a little display made by a woman in a cloak and with pink hair little did she know this was Wolbach, the name Arnes mentioned before her death and the woman that made her aspire to become the queen of explosions. What would happen to her because of her desire to make the best explosion to ever happen to the world would cause her to die, which is poetic really but alas it's how it goes when you use all your energy for 1 task not leaving wiggle room.

To take it back a bit Megumin grew up in the crimson demon village and was to be frank pretty poor but she managed to go to a nice school to be able to expand her knowledge on magic and more specifically explosion magic and when she was in school she learned about it and topics around it as much as she could. This included science topics that went in detail about why explosions happen and she learned about volcanoes and had read some on atoms since she thought that would do something but there was just speculation at that point. In conclusion they didn't have that much information on science but there was enough to tell that the mana was compacted then rapidly expanded once it hit it's target and it was called 'combustion', and she knew everything about it, to the point that she ran out of books, lucky for her though graduation was just around the corner.

But after she graduated she kept trying to learn her form when casting explosion magic but she had to leave so as to not disturb the people of her village, first she went to Arcanletia and after that she went to Axel but before she managed to get there she met her demise. But then she woke up, laying in a dark room that seemed almost infinite with a floor of kitchen tiles, there was a beaming light a couple of feet away from her. A lady sat in a white chair and wore a blue outfit, 'I'm dead aren't I?' Megumin started to get up and felt her stomach to make sure that the explosion hadn't messed her up, "Where am I? And who are you?" Megumin said, distressed.

"You have no need to worry now, I am Eris, a goddess that will guide you moving forward, for you have passed on, your death was quite the deal." A screen popped up showing the explosion that was caused, leading to her death, "It was an explosion that was the size of 60 kilotons of tnt. With that being said it is quite sad to see you die such a horrific death, and you have tw- three options you can make." The lady in blue and white said with a slight sadness in her voice, feeling sorry for the poor girl. "You can rather be reincarnated back into your world, with losing enough memories so that you couldn't use them, your second option is that you can be dead and move to the afterlife, which is the most regretted choice of these. But the third option is that you can be reincarnated into another world, one that is much more developed with your memories, but without magic"

Megumin analyzed the situation she was just put in and had to ask a question "So does that mean that all the time I learned about explosions would be useless and I wouldn't be able to do anything there?" A question that was fair to ask and was well expected to come from her.

"That is a simple question with a complicated answer, while what you learned wouldn't be exactly applicable, at least not in the way it was in your world, it would still be useful and you would be at least a decade ahead of anyone else your age. So interpret that as you will." Eris said while contemplating how her knowledge would affect the world and what new types of bombs would come out of it. "With that being said I must tell you that the use of big explosions is not commonplace and some wouldn't even be allowed to happen."

"That's ok I wasn't planning on making big explosions anyway." The lady in blue looked worried when the girl said that and it was brought even more by the face of disappointment that Megumin had when she said it, remembering what the lady told her before her untimely death. "Oh and while I'm thinking about it, does everyone get to make these decisions because the last one in particular seems like it would mess up that world quite a bit?"

Eris paused at first before figuring out how to tell her, "First off, I'd think it would be good to inform you that I am the goddess of luck and fortune, and after your death lady Walboch, her being the goddess of sloth and violence and she asked me for a couple of favors." With that name Arnes repeated over and over instantly popping into Megumin's head talking about Chomusuke, "So I agreed with what she asked since she was just trying to get away from the war she disagreed with, which us goddesses have been trying to stop for a while now and she has been trying to deescalate it but has been failing, so as an agreement she said that she would take immediate action to calm it down since she is a major general. And out of it we agreed that the third option that I gave you at the end would be a good fit for you, while still giving you the choice, despite this still being quite a big ask I just couldn't say no, she was just that desperate, I felt bad for the girl. So with that being said she asked if she could come along with you as the second favor, also it takes her completely out of the war." After she said that she stood up and Wolbach appeared next to her.

"Even after I told you to stay away from that magic you didn't listen now did you. And look where you ended up." Although she started the sentence semi-joyfully she couldn't help but end it a little disappointed of herself, "I guess I owe you an explanation, after becoming a cat to see a girl who looked like you I was brought to your house where I saw you, and I wanted to see how you were doing and what you did after the day we met. I guess I left quite the impression on you *heh, my subordinates looked for me since I kinda left without notice, and when I kept turning them away they didn't get the idea. Which led to your death… which I take full responsibility for, before coming here I got every one of my subordinates together and told them I was leaving for a long time and might not come back so I told them to work together on issues and not rely on one figure, rather it be me or the demon king, to tell them what to do and that they should try and calm down on their part of the war, at least until I get back. I'm sorry but this is the best alternative I could offer." She said that with shame and proceeded to bow her head towards the girl, letting her know that she was truly sorry.

"You have no reason to bow your head to me, it was a genuine mistake and you have obviously learned from it. You have given me this desire with you doing what you thought needed to be done, and I hadn't learned how to properly manage it, that's the reason why I died." Megumin said this while looking at her icon, and her icon trying to hold back the tears from the girl's words having pierced through her heart.

"I'm glad to see that you two are now on the same page and that Wolbach was able to get her apology out of her system." Eris said, putting her hands together, "But now comes the decision of whether you stay dead or you get reincarnated to this new land, or stay in your land reincarnated."

"I'll pick the reincarnation of a new world!" Megumin said proudly, puffing out her chest, "Why in the world would I pass such a cool opportunity up!?" she did make a valid point, it was a pretty cool opportunity "Besides I get to stay with my icon while I'm there, so we can use explosions to their absolute limit." She said whilst looking at her icon who at this point was standing not so tall.

"Alright then, something I should tell you before you go is that all of your points you put into magic will be converted to basic knowledge of language and some other things that you learn as a child growing there, what you won't get though is their manners and culture, as well as history or politics, reason being that you'd be infinitely more likely to spontaneously combust, also I'll give you some clothes that won't seem as far fetched and lastly I'll also give you a word of advice before you go." Megumin's outfit changed, then she looked at the goddess with an interested look, "Make sure that you get a place to live, and just to make it easy on you I'll make it so you get someone who I just know you'll love! Make sure to give Kazuma a 'Hello' from yours truly" She was then teleported to the new world standing in front of a crosswalk which she recognized instantly with her new knowledge and then looked up to see a boy glaring at the sun then walking in her direction before stopping a few feet away staring at her.

Earlier that morning Kazuma was sitting at his desk playing an MMORPG pulling his third all-nighter in a row, he sat up to get dressed to pick up a limited-edition of a popular MMO that was on sale. Which is a fair reason to have to leave the house, he caught the first bus ride which was about an hour to the way of the store that had it, he started to think about the life he had had, for the past couple years he had really just stayed in, or at least that was when it started and it slowly devolved into him dropping out all together, although he still considered himself a highschool student, 'Man I wish that I wasn't so kept in. If only I could actually get out and do stuff.' As much as he had hidden it, he really did want to be outside but he just had to stay in, he couldn't go outside, he wouldn't be able to truly trust anyone.

When he got on the bus he fell asleep and had a weird dream. He was in a dark room with kitchen tiles on the floor, then the lady known as Eris said, "Hello Kazuma Sauto."

K-"Wait where am I?" He said frantically knowing that he was just sitting on the seat in the bus.

E-"You have no reason to worry, I've only killed you for a short while to tell you that I am Eris, the goddess of luck and fortune and that a girl will ask to go home with you, and it is your job to take care of her."

K-"What are you talking about, are you sure this isn't just a dream?"

E-"Surely not, I'll tell you hello when I need you."

K-"So about this girl, how long do I gotta take care of her,ooh and how does she look?"

E-"Take care of her for as long as you can, and as for looks, *deep exhale, she's a cute girl that I think you'll get quite along with."

K-"hmmm" he thought for a second before answering, "What's my compensation?", 'If I'm having to take care of a girl then I atleast want something in return.'

E-"If you play your cards right then she might start to have feelings for you, just don't be someone you're not." This was simultaneously the best and worst piece of advice she could've given.

K-"I'll take care of her for the rest of our days." He said with a determined face, 'Even if this was a dream I'm not going to pass such a once in a billion lifetime opportunity.'

E-"Good luck, you have plenty of it anyways." Eris said with a smile snapping her fingers as he started to float.

K-"The hell does that mean!? Have you seen my life?"

E-"Everything happens for a reason, just make the most of it." She gave a slanted smile after her words.

K-'Well it looks like I'm taking care of a girl now, rather that or I'm just tired of loneliness that my brain made this mess, why else would there be this cute of a goddess talking to me?' When Kazuma woke up he was on the floor of the bus with a guy doing CPR on him, "What the hell's going on? Hey if you could get off and stop bashing my chest in, that would be great. I'm feeling a bit sore over here."

The random man got off of him quickly looking relieved, then speaking, "You fell on the floor suddenly and I started to perform CPR and in about a minute you woke up."

'Wait did that goddess actually kill me to talk about hardcore, to have that kind of power, really makes you realize how much life is worth. Eh she brought me back, I got some plot armour so It's fine.', then he turned to the man forgetting that he was right there, "Oh well I've been on an all-nighter streak recently, it was probably just lack of sleep catching up with me." He tried to laugh it off as the man in front of him sighed.

"Well get some sleep, I'm sure you need it for school, besides it's also a necessity for your health." Jokes on him he wasn't in school, although he was right about Kazuma's health being in decline because of it. He sat back down on his seat before realising that the bus had stopped at the stop he needed to get off at, and rushed out of the bus to get in line for the game. After he had gotten the game and the bus ride passed with it being pretty uneventful, he stepped out of the bus before sniffing the game and started to walk. The sun was his worst enemy right now, it was blasting his face so hard he had to cover it for a second.

When he was crossing the crosswalk on his way home, he walked past a classmate of his, noticing her then taking his attention to the girl in front of him giving him a strange look. A girl wearing dark shoes and thigh-high socks, a plad skirt that went just above the stockings, and a hoodie that didn't match the spring-ish weather with black and red stripes on the sleeves and an explosion on the front as well as a toboggan with black and red stripes and a spiked choker around her neck that managed not to take away from the entire get-up, she was just so stylish and bold while also being just the most adorable thing he had ever seen. Then she spoke up, "Are you Kashuma? I'm supposed to go home with you, I was told."

Kazuma looked at her, took a deep breath and raised both his hands while leaning back thinking 'HELL YEAH, MY POPULAR PHASE! Wait, how did she know my name?' He went back to his normal stance then looked the girl up and down, 'Doesn't matter now I got a girl asking to go home with me, wait is this a child? Looks to be a bit younger than me but that might just be my imagination.', Megumin looked very confused by his reaction to what she asked since she thought that Eris had let him know beforehand, but then he finally spoke, "So who are you and why do you want to go home with me? Not turning you down just think I need some background here so I don't get the wrong idea. Also, who told you my name, although it's pronounced 'KaIzuma' not 'shu', also I know that I wasn't friendly with anyone who would have a cute younger sister." He questioned her in a manner that looked more like he was accusing her of something, which he kinda was (that being stalking of course).

Megumin looked at him in confusion before realizing that he called her a younger sister trope, "What makes you think I'm someone's younger sister!?" She questioned him harshly with her hand grasped close to her chest looking like she's about to fight, "If you need to know I am in fact the older sister in my family, the reason I'm asking is because Eris told me that you would take me to shelter and to tell you 'Hi'."

Suddenly it all hit him like a strok- I mean truck, 'This is the girl that the goddess said I could get a girlfriend out of, then I guess it wasn't a dream. Not complaining, she is a cute girl, but my problem lies with the maturity, or lack thereof… eh beggars can't be choosers, better to appreciate what I have rather than cry for what I don't. Besides if this cute girl will fall for me just for me being myself then hell yeah, better then having some fake-ass relationship, so that means I can look at her more. Right I'm going to be living with this girl, that'll be fun.' Kazuma then chuckled to himself like an idiot while Megumin stood there confused and Chomusuke sitting next to her even more so.

M-"So are you just going to stand there laughing or should I just leave."

K-"No I'm fine, I'm just thinking about the craziness of the entire situation."

M-"Yeah tell that to me, I don't know where I am."

K-"So wait, how do you know Eris and how did you get here if you don't know where you are?"

M-"Well to put it in simple terms I got too good for my world and then the goddess banished me here after my death, taking away my magic in exchange for the basic knowledge of how this world works and the new technology that this world has." She obviously wasn't going to say that she lost a battle, but saying that even after death she could come back and that the gods gave her a gift due to her accomplishments.

K-'She makes it seem so dark which puts holes into it, Imma try something.', "So did they also make you younger so that you could get around." He could tell that her age and appearance were her sensitive spots.

M-"What?! No and they wouldn't need to, I'm a fully grown woman they wouldn't need to alter my age." She said very defensively, proving Kazuma's point that she was lying to him.

K-"Ok then, if you died due to something then that would explain why you look the age you do, as for you being a 'fully grown woman', you don't look a week past 16 and that's being generous!"

Megumin was taken back with his response, "My birthday was a few months ago not a week." She sheepishly managed to get out, to which Kazuma just shook his head.

Kazuma then said what has been needed to be said for the last couple of minutes, "Alright I'll take you in then." To which Megumin quickly attacked by saying she wasn't a dog but reluctantly followed him home, not knowing what would happen when they actually got there, this was reaffirmed by Kazuma, "Crap, I need to tell my parents about you and I have no idea how to go about it." After this realization Megumin looked at him with a face that consisted both of awe of how he didn't think of this sooner and also wondered why Eris recommended this man as a person to trust.

"How was that not the first thing that you thought of?" Megumin kept following him with Chomusuke in her hoodie pocket, having her head poked out to watch the surrounding area.

Kazuma was fuming for a second, "Listen here ok? I go to the store trying to get a game, on the way there I pass out, see a goddess who tells me that tells me that I'm going to have to spend the rest of my life taking care and living with a girl who will develop feelings for me, a pretty common trope if you ask me. And then I meet said girl who is really cute but a chunibyo meaning that I did die for an amount of time and that the girl is from another world where it is basically a MMORPG that everyone participates in. And you expect me to think about how my parents are going to react to me bringing a girl home when I am a failure of a student. You are out of your mind thinking that." Kazuma said all that without thinking and has now regretted saying that he is a dropout.

But instead of her coming back with some comeback she simply said, "Sorry." With her head slightly down. Now Kazuma felt like a douchebag for hurting this girl's feelings.

'What kind of asshole does that to a girl going to him asking for a place to live and eat.',"How about this," Kazuma said while looking her in the eyes, she proceeded to lift them slightly, "Before going home we first get a bite to eat, I'm sure dying is an exhausting process, besides I'm also quite hungary myself."

Megumin lifted up a smile and looked at him, "That sounds like a great idea, it'll be exciting to see what kind of food you have here!" She then was in a much better mood then she had been in the entire time, and something about that made Kazuma feel good, maybe it was because he actually apologized for an action he did and tried to make it up, and the fact that it worked was a first timer, most the time he just gets backlash for trying to make it up, but she was different from everyone he knew in school.

As they came up to a fast food restaurant that had a especially big empire in America Megumin had a question brewing, "So what does the food in your world look like, does it taste good?" A fair question that wouldn't be answered at the place they were eating at.

"There's plenty of places that have amazing food, some of them make you water out the mouth." He paused a minute before saying the next part knowing the backlash before he thought of something clever, "The food here is pretty low and is all over the world, it might be bad giving you the best thing to offer here as to not raise your standards too much. Plus it would give me a good comparison to what the food from where you are from is like."

"That's a fair point," she didn't think twice about how he was just trying to be cheap since he didn't have much money. When they stepped in Kazuma showed her the line that they would have to stand at, but when it got to their turn Megumin had no idea what to do, "You can pick something out for me, I don't really have a preference."

"Ok then, I'll have the…" The burgers they got were 2 decently sized ones that had a good amount of meat in them, after they got their food and sat down Megumin stared at her food for a bit questioning its edibility and feel while Kazuma bit right in, "Are you going to eat it or just stare at it."

Megumin took a look at him, annoyed, "I'm just trying to figure out why it doesn't look like the image that was on the board." A question that is very common to everyone that gets fast food.

"Just eat your damn burger, it's always like that everyone just goes with it, it's called 'false advertising', something that you'll get very used to in your new life." Kazuma said this with a voice that resembled that, although common it was still an annoying thing to have to deal with.

So after she gave him a face of annoyance she bit into the burger and her face lit up, "Kazuma, Kazuma!" she said with a mouth full of food, very joyous of the fact the food tasted much better than the food she would eat daily.

"Keep your mouth shut when you're eating damn it, you're gonna choke or get it everywhere, did your parents not teach you manners or did you live in the wild." He angrily said to the girl who was continuing to munch on her burger in glee.

"This is so good, roasted bugs pale in comparison to this." Kazuma then made a face of disgust which Megumin caught onto very quickly, "Listen I was poor, there was no other choice some days."

"That's sad." Kazuma ended it with that, watching her devour her burger while he was already done due to the time she spent observing it, "Now time to figure out what to say to my parents. I say we tell them that you are my friend and that you have no place to live, knowing my parents they'll probably demand to know how we became friends and why you would want to be friends with me."

"Do you really have that bad of a relationship with them?" Megumin asked, finished with her burger and starting to have a concerned face for what would happen to both her and him when they got there.

"Not so much of a bad relationship as much as it is me being not the best when it comes to being," he tried to think of the word to use, since it wasn't so much as him being rude but he also wasn't a gentleman, "A 'gentleman', let's say, since I think its fits best, besides if I brought a cute girl home then I would question myself too."

Megumin blushed at first before becoming annoyed, "Hey earlier didn't you say something along the lines of 'and a girl that will develop feelings for me' and that I would be living with you for the rest of our lives?"Kazuma started to look up trying to remember everything that he said when he lashed out.

After looking back down and looking Megumin in the face, "Yep."

"What do you mean, 'Yep', that's a pretty big thing to just say 'Yep' to, besides I don't remember Eris saying that to me?"

"Well she told me that you can become my girlfriend and that I need to take care of you for as long as I can."

"What? Ok now my question is, why did she want us specifically to live together? She told me that she'll set me up to live with you and that you would be… someone… I would… love." Her sentence became slower as she was realizing what Eris had set up, "She set us up to fall in love with each other!?" She slammed her hand on the table, blushing out of her mind, and saying it a bit too loudly, to the point where everyone looked at them for a bit.

"The hell are you doing making such a ruckus, everyone is now looking at us, sit back down and we'll talk logically." Kazuma quickly hushed her, getting her to somewhat calm down and sit, "Lady luck is on my side." he chuckled to himself, resulting in a look from Megumin.

"Ok let's figure this out with your parents, that should be our main focus.", They both started to think for a bit before speaking, "Using what you said earlier about how your parents would react and ask for a story of how we met, how about I say that we ran into each other on the train ride you were taking and started talking, then we decided to get something to eat and I told you I was between houses." A story that was somewhat accurate and Kazuma would have to give the specifics of where things were, Except for one thing.

"What 16 year old is between houses, shouldn't you be in an orphanage?" Kazuma pointed out what he thought was obvious and it hadn't crossed Megumin's mind yet and didn't know what kids did when they were on their own or when they would.

"What if I'm trying not to be in an orphanage and running away from it, would your parents be fine with that?" It was a long shot but it was the only idea that would make sense.

"I guess so, as long as you say you were being mistreated there and ask them not to try and report something to the police because you would be dragged into the mess and we don't want that." And with that they had their plan together, now they just needed to go home.
