The Snake And The Lion:
It was a few weeks left of the last summer before the Malfoy twins would start Hogwarts together, leaving their mother home alone while their father was working doing Merlin only knows what. Though this fact should make a mother proud, it stung her heart a tad. You see, most of the world knew about her son, the youngest of the pair, her little dragon. Draco, a boy with platinum blonde hair, stunning blue eyes and was every bit the typical Malfoy by looks. Her daughter on the other hand, few knew of her, mostly close family. Aquila seemed to be a perfect mix of being a Black and a Malfoy, she had honey brown hair, though in some lights it almost looked like a golden blonde, and with her chocolate brown eyes to help her hair again her pale skin.
Narcissa wasn't surprised when she daughter came out looking more like a Black than a Malfoy, as her own twin was the opposite of her in looks. Vega had dark brown hair, but they shared the blue eyes. She had married their old professor when they were at Hogwarts and the woman still worked their today and would teach the twins. Minerva McGonagall was her sister-in-law, and that made her the aunt of her twins. Aquila loved her aunts and tried to find any reason to go spend time with Aunt Vega and Aunt 'Nerva, besides herself, Minerva was Aquila's favourite person. Whereas Draco preferred to spend time with his Godfather, Severus Snape who also worked at the school and would keep an eye on the children while they were there.
Severus being at the school made the mother worry less about her children, but her daughter's relationship with Minerva was what made her worry the most. She was worried her daughter might end up in Gryffindor and no Malfoy or Black had ever ended up there, besides her cousin Sirius, but he was also disowned. Aquila was nothing like Sirius though, she was studious and if she wasn't to be in Slytherin, her mother would've guessed she would be a Ravenclaw though her husband would never accept that, his children must be in Slytherin, like every Malfoy before.
Tomorrow they planned to go to Diagon Alley as a family to pick up the children's supplies. Aquila had already got her robes and wand though, as her aunt Vega had taken her the week before to get her out of the manor and decided to buy the girls wand and robes. The wand was Ebony with a Unicorn core, reasonably supple at ten and three quarters in length. None of this surprised Narcissa, her daughter always had a mind of her own and never budged on her beliefs. For now, the Malfoy Matriarch put her book on her nightstand and curled up to go to sleep for the day ahead when the sun was up.
Diagon Alley:
After arriving at Diagon Alley the next morning, the family of four made their way to Madame Malkin's to get Draco's robes, but after staying for a few moments he wanted to play big boy, so Narcissa took her daughter to Ollivander's, so that she could ask the man more about her daughter's wand, while Lucius went to Flourish & Blotts to get the children's schoolbooks.
After Draco came to Ollivander's and found his wand, which was Hawthorn with Unicorn hair, reasonably springy at ten inches. After getting his wand Draco pulled his parent's over to Quality Qudditch Supplies, probably the moan about how first years can't have broomsticks again. While they were being dragged over to the shop, Aquila stopped her mother and asked for some money so she could go to the bookstore to find some extra books for her spare time.
Once a small money pouch was put in her small hand, the honey brunette ran off to the book shop and started looking around, yes, she had a library at home but most books she wasn't allowed to touch thanks to her ancestors. So now she could be found browsing the Transfiguration section of the store when she bumped into someone as she was looking at the shelves not where she was going. "Oh merlin, I'm sorry." Aquila apologised extending her hand to the girl she knocked over.
The girl on the ground went down with a huff when someone had knocked her over, but she offered a small smile when the same person offered her a hand to help up. "It's fine." Hermione brushed off her jeans and turned back to the shelves. "Is it your first year as well?" She asked the girl who seemed to be around her age.
Aquila nodded watching the brunette with brown eyes, dressed in blue jeans with a cute pink top. The lighter brunette smiled with a small nod. "My brother and I bother start this year, the joys of being a twin." She chuckled wishing she was an only child sometimes, but she loved her brother. "He made my parents go look at the latest broom." She shrugged. "Are you looking forward to starting?"
Hermione smiled as the girl spoke to her, it was the first person who had spoken to her besides the store workers and the professor that came to explain that she was a witch. "I am." She answered shyly. "I'm excited to start reading before we have to get on the train." She smiled pulling out a beginner's guide to Transfiguration though it wasn't on her school list.
Aquila watched with a smile and took a copy of the same book Hermione had taken. "I'm Aquila." She extended her hand. "Aquila Malfoy." She clarified before looking at the book in her hand and taking Hermione's as well. "Let me buy you that one and we can give each other a book report when she starts school." She chuckled.
"Hermione Granger." The other girl smiled and shook the other girl's hand and tried to protest when the book was taken from her, sighing with a nod. "Fine." She was excited that someone her age was also into books as much as she was. "I think I might be a Ravenclaw." Hermione said shyly as the girl paid for the books and asked for one to be wrapped with a note she wrote down for the shop keeper.
"That or Gryffindor." Aquila teased with a chuckle collecting the books and handed the wrapped one to Hermione. "I will see you at school, Hermione." And with that Aquila was gone into the sea of people.
Hermione smiled as she watched the girl go and looked at the note she had written on the book. 'Enjoy the rest of summer! A.D.M'. The note made Hermione smile more as she went to find her parents and they headed home; she wasn't able to catch a glimpse of the girl again before they left.
