So I'm changing a few things to this story because I realized that a lot of the stuff happening seems random. So I'm trying to have a smoother transition to the things happening, meaning that some of the stuff that happened in this chapter might be placed in the other chapter and so on and so forth with the other chapters as well. But please don't be upset because it's something that I decided while rereading this childish story. Plus, I wanted a little more maturity. Revised on April 4, 2020

Chapter 8:

I looked around the kitchen, taking in all of the details as Sebastian prepared the young master's snack. I sat on the small island in the middle of the kitchen and placed my eyes on the cupboard. The structure of the wood looked so smooth and clean as if nothing had touched it. My eyes traveled to the stove and the sink next to it. As I sat on the left edge of the counter facing the door, I turned to Sebastian and watched as he cut up the young master's small cake. I inhaled the scent of the cake and was met with a hint of gun powder. The confusion I felt was written on my face as I decided to get up and look for something to eat. But as soon as I got up I hit something and I almost fell. I grabbed on to whatever I bumped into and felt clothing. Whatever I had grabbed was bent down with me. I looked up and saw the smirking face of the butler. He had his arm around me and was looking into my eyes as if trying to solve a puzzle. It was quizzical and less hateful than when he looked at me earlier. I started to feel uncomfortable, so I straightened both of us, moved his arm from around my waist and walked away from him over to what I assumed was the pantry and found nothing that I thought was worth eating.

"I'll be exploring the manor. I'll come back for my food when you're done with the young master's snack."

I walked with a mindset of the unfamiliarity of the manor and continued stalking on. I passed by a grand window and looked out to see the dark hue of green tracing the tree lines. I couldn't help but admire the soft and smooth movement of the trees as the wind blew. It looked peaceful.

I heard a clang and turned in the direction where the noise came from. I wasn't sure whether it was serious to check out but remembering the role I was now continuing for the majority of life I was trotted in the direction of the news.

"Um... Mey-Rin?" I asked the maid lying on the floor.

"Mister Sebastian is going to be very angry, yes he is!"

"Mey-Rin."

"I'm sorry I didn't see you there! Is there something you needed?"

She's the one in a mess and she's asking me if I needed help... Honestly how dense could she be?

"No. I heard the noise and came over here. Do you need help?"

"No, you don't need to fix my mistakes!"

"No, I don't mind."

I helped Mey-rin clean up the glass that she dropped/

"Thank you for helping me. I am really grateful, yes I am."

"It's no problem. Just make sure you clean your glasses, they seem to be fogged up." I left her to continue her chores and to continue walking around the maze structure.

One of the hallways I was walking in took me to the entrance of the manor and I couldn't help but want to go outside as the front door came closer to me. I opened it and looked to my left to see an empty pathway into the forest. I walked down the steps and headed to the tree closest to the manor but also lying on the path. I laid under the tree and gazed at the light blue sky and exhaled strongly.

"And to think my friends died last night... Tsk and they called me family...," I muttered to myself.

I felt like I had betrayed them in a way. By working for the boy we were supposed to hate I had betrayed them and Father in the worst way that I could.

Soon my lids became heavy and the chirping of birds became soothing as I succumbed to a well-known thing called sleep.

My consciousness slowly came back and I moved not remembering where I had fallen asleep. My hand was touching something pointy and semi-soft and I opened my eyes to see the ground and pushed myself into a sitting position. As I rubbed my eyes to get the sleep out of them I felt a presence in front of me and opened my eyes to see the tall and slim butler.

"Hello Sebastian. Is everything alright?" I asked pretending not to notice the disappointed look in his eyes.

"Yes. But if I may ask what are you doing outside?"

"I was exploring and then felt tired. I didn't mean to sleep."

"Not too long. I have brought you a snack."

"Thank you."

He handed me a small piece of the cake he had been preparing for the young master and I took it thankfully. I bit into it feeling the soft moisture and the delicate taste bounced off my taste buds. There was only one way I could describe the flavor... heavenly.

"It's pretty good. You're a good cook for a demon." I said nonchalantly.

I looked in his eyes for any sign of a blunt force to his pride only to see a well put mask.

"What are you?" he asked with a curious look in his eyes.

"What do you mean?"

"What creature are you?"

"Why do you want to know?"

"I have lived for many years Ms. Bird and I have seen many things. But I have not witnessed a human with wings. What are you?"

"If I said human you wouldn't believe me. So in all honesty, I don't know."

He stared at me saying nothing else. I got a little impatient and talked again.

"If you have nothing to else to say can I eat my slice of cake in my room," I stated in more of a demand then a request.

I walked away in big strides in order to get as far away from the butler's questioning gaze. I soon found my room and went straight to the small dresser. I couldn't help but look myself in the mirror as I sat there, panting from the short exercise. I placed the plate that was held cake as I chewed on it in thought.

I wonder how my wings are looking?

I made my wings appear and stretched them out as much as I could and stared at them. The very tips of my wings were still white but as it got closer to my back it grew darker. I turned my side to the face the mirror and stared harder as I noticed the pitch black that was protruding from my back.

How...?

I was to deep in thoughts to recognize the butler standing at my door.

"My, your wings are now turning black." I turned around to see him smirking. "Aren't you surprised?"

I glared at the butler. How could he decide to mock me at a time like this?

"I don't appreciate your mockery, you demon." I blocked my face with my wings trying to see the inside of my wings when it suddenly felt cold in the room. I peeked out from my wins and was met with darkness. Sebastian was no longer standing in the direction of the door but I could still feel his presence.

"I am not mocking," a sultry voice sounded from nowhere yet everywhere.

"Liar. You know something, don't you? It's why you keep pestering me."

"How would you feel to know," as he spoke everything became colder and my arms grew goosebumps as I listened, "that you were becoming the very thing most humans despise?"

"And what is that?"

"What do you believe it to be?"

Fuschia eyes opened in front of me and I took a step back.

Those damn eyes...

The room became brighter and my surroundings came back to me as my body warmed itself up from the sudden coldness. I looked to my right where the doorway was and saw Sebastian standing there as if nothing happened at all.

"How did you do that?"

"Why? Would you like to know?"

"Yes."

Sebastian walked closer to me. He walked until I was pushed against the dresser and leaned in close to me until I couldn't bend my back anymore. Our eye contact never broke as he continued his movements. He took his right hand and reached behind me, soon retreating with the plate I had forgotten about.

He straightened up and smirked down at my form and turned to leave the room. My voice finally came back before he could leave the room.

"Hey, Sebastian."

"Yes?"

"I do better than you at scaring."

He only let out a chuckle. "We'll see."
