Theory#17: Joule is a clone of Mytyl.
Joule has red eyes similar in color to Copen's. If Mytyl's DNA was used to create Joule, it could explain why her eyes are red. It would also answer why Joule was able to retain the Muse Septima even though she wasn't born yet. In Fleeting Memories, Dr. Kamizono is said to have platinum blond hair, while there is no mention of Copen's mother's hair color. In ASG2, Mytyl and Joule fused. This may be because they shared similar genetic structures.
Resentment, despise, loathing, those were just a few words to describe Dr. Kamizono's feelings about Adepts. To him they were seen as inhuman and inferior. Nothing more than a lowly bug to be squashed underfoot. However, he was forced to hold that feeling back considering the company he worked for.
Sumeragi was hoping to allow Adepts to work for them. It was a difficult world for them, with most of them forced to hide their Septimas. Some even became criminals, stealing and using their abilities to get by. Sumeragi had plans to distribute Glaives to anyone known as an Adept.
First, testing was required to learn the limits of Septimal strength and the possible number of Glaives required based on Septima type. After Mytyl's Muse Septima was discovered, Sumeragi's executives decided a test of the Septima could further their understanding. Mytyl was too young and frail to continue carrying the Septima. But she was the only person known to carry it, which caused some difficulty.
That's when Dr. Kamizono got the idea to remove something containing some of Mytyl's genetic material. While she was sleeping, some of Mytyl's blood was removed. This was the best thing to get the sample from considering that was where her Septimosome was held. Making a clone of an Adept was incredibly risky as previous attempts only resulted in human versions.
This clone was made with the Septimosome acting as part of their DNA, guaranteeing they would be an Adept. The girl was named Joule and raised under Sumeragi's care.
After being rescued by Gunvolt, life seemed a lot better for Joule and Lumen. They were still able to sing without any consequences. Joule never knew about the process or people associated with her creation. And hopefully she never would, but that was nothing more than wishful thinking. After the successful mission to rescue Joule and Lumen, Asimov decided to call everyone together for an important metting. They decided to meet up at Quill HQ.
"There's something that I failed to mention to you, all of you. But Lumen and Joule in particular, and for that I apologize. I believed it was in the best interest of both parties to keep this a secret. Now I think is the best time to reveal that secret. Joule, you're actually a clone of Mytyl. Your genetic structure is different but the essential parts of that structure is the same. Unfortunately, that means you would be related to Copen in the same way Mytyl is. It also explains the creation of the machine Joule was contained in. Dr. Kamizono knew the Muse Septima better than anyone. Unfortunately, Copen is willing to eliminate Joule and get the Septima back at all costs. We need to make sure that doesn't happen, why is why she'll be staying with GV." Asimov explained.
Joule couldn't believe a single word of what she just heard. Lumen was a moment away from crying, if she could. But the memories came back to her, someone that almost looked like an older version of Copen, forcing her into the machine. White spiky hair, red eyes behind visor like glasses, a full sleeve labcoat ending at the wrists and above the knees, khaki pants and black shoes.
"H-he was really scary." Joule admitted.
"It's hard to believe that he led both Project Muse and Project Gunvolt at the same time." Asimov added.
Everyone else looked at Asimov with confusion.
"And, how the heck did you know that exactly boss?" Zeno interrogated.
"I thought it was common knowledge." Asimov supposed.
"The only thing I ever heard about Copen's father was from Copen and Nova." Gunvolt stated.
"What did you hear?" Asimov queried
"Nova said he built the foundation for Adept controlling tech. Copen said he worked as an Adept researcher for Sumeragi. That's all I remember." Gunvolt replied.
"That's all you need to know, all of you." Asimov warned.
"There's something you're not telling us, what is it?" Gunvolt noticed.
Asimov sighed, nearly taking off his visor to transition his focus towards something else. It was a reminder, a silent, painful and necessary reminder. Not just for his Septima, but himself.
"Some things are best left unsaid, you know this as well as I do GV. Informing Joule and Lumen of this was already a big mistake." Asimov rebuked.
"You knew him too, right Asimov? He said some things about you, he thought I couldn't hear..." Joule muttered.
Asimov went wide eyed at this new piece of information.
"What did he say?" Asimov questioned.
"I never should have modified you. It was a mistake to begin with. A fatal error for the likes of everyone involved." Joule repeated.
"That definitely sounds like something he would say." Asimov agreed.
"So basically GV's fighting with Copen is an indicator of a multigenerational battle?" Lumen theorized.
"I'm not that old." Asimov protested.
During lunch in the Dragon Savior's office, Gunvolt was sitting next to Kirin's office while she worked. Lumen hummed while watching the two. Gunvolt looked up towards Lumen.
"I wish there was something I could've done better to protect you from what happened. Maybe if I could've rescued you sooner, you wouldn't have had to worry about Merak or Copen. Or, anyone else, really..." Gunvolt sighed.
"It's not your fault GV, you saved me, I still can't thank you enough for it. You don't need to pressure yourself with things from the past that you couldn't fix. That was something you only learned after and had absolutely no control over." Lumen assured.
While looking through the list of files made by the lead researcher on the Septima Research Project, Kirin found one on Joule. Her jaw dropped when she took a closer look at its contents.
"Hey, GV, is this true?" Kirin inqueried.
Gunvolt put his paws on the desk to balance himself as he examined the data.
"Yeah, it's accurate." Gunvolt confirmed.
Lumen floated over, curious to see what was so interesting. She gained a sad look on her face as she read the page.
"O-oh, y-you were reading that..." Lumen realized.
"I'm sorry too Lumen, that must be horrible to live with." Kirin apologized.
"There's no need to worry about it. I have a bright future ahead of me now. My past doesn't have a hold on me anymore, so it's alright." Lumen smiled.
If only she knew what that future had in store for her...
