Chapter 6: Chaos in Class
The inside of their classroom was filled with poles, armor, swords, helmets, and balls.
"Unwelcome to battle training," Lady Tremaine greeted them. Their classroom was so crowded. There were first year students, graduators, and everyone in between. All the first year students cowered in a corner, while the older ones, including Mal, Evie, Jay, and a timid Carlos, explored the equipment.
"Watch this!" Jay did a half backflip and fell flat on his back.
"Wow!" Evie cheered.
"I could do a better one," Mal said. She performed a perfect cartwheel.
"That was amazing!" Evie grinned.
"But it wasn't a backflip," Jay challenged. It was a cartwheel."
Carlos went over to the balls. He picked one up and bounced it against the wall.
Suddenly, two monsters popped out of the ball pile. Carlos jumped back and screamed. The two monsters burst out laughing. They were just second year students! Carlos looked down, embarrassed to be scared by them. One of the kids was a girl with long, straight, dark brown hair. She wore a black dress and black leggings. The other kid was a boy. He looked very similar to the girl. They were the same height, and he had the same hair as her, just shorter. He wore a black shirt and black pants. The girl grinned and high fived the boy.
"Who are you?" Mal asked them.
"I'm Moth," The girl replied.
"And I'm Goth," the boy said.
"Who's your mother?" Evie wondered.
"Mother Gothel," The twins said in unison.
"Can we fight you?" Goth asked eagerly, picking up a sword.
"Put that down!" Lady Tremaine yelled.
Goth dropped it reluctantly. It really was a beauty. The silver tip gleamed in the light and the black handle was covered in tiny carvings. Goth could make out a bear and a loin, but the rest were too hard to see. He wouldn't believe something so beautiful had ended up here in the Isle.
"We will begin with holding a sword," Lady Tremaine said.
"But you just told me to put it down!" Goth pointed out.
"I didn't teach you yet."
"I already know," Goth muttered.
"So do I," Jay said.
"And me," Mal added.
"I do too!" Moth announced. "Better than all of you!"
"Not better than me!" Evie grinned, picking up a shiny silver sword.
"PUT THOSE SWORDS DOWN!" Lady Tremaine shouted. "I am the teacher. I don't care if you know things already."
"Geeze, fine." Jay and his friends placed their swords in the pile.
"The first thing you do to hold a sword is-" Lady Tremaine started.
"Unleash it!" Moth said.
"No!" Lady Tremaine cried, exasperated. "Stop interrupting! The first thing you do is-"
"Fight!" Jay yelled. He and his friends picked up swords and began to fight. Moth and Goth soon joined in, and the loud clank and clash of metal filled the air. The four Vks and the twins laughed as they ducked and jumped. The rest of the class just stared at them, too scared to join in.
"STOP IT!" Lady Tremaine screamed. But the class took no notice of her. Some of the other kids even picked up a sword and joined the fight.
"This is fun!" Moth laughed.
"It is!" Goth agreed.
Jay stepped back and ran forward, pointing his sword straight at Mal.
"You have your sheath on," Mal said, not flinching.
"Aw, I thought you'd fall for it," Jay said.
"Do it on Carlos."
"Good idea." Jay tiptoed up to Carlos and pointed the sword at his chest. Carlos
screamed and jumped back. He tripped over a sword and bumped into a student, which caused him to fall over a bucket of water. The water spilled onto the floor, and Carlos fell flat on his face.
"The sword was in its sheath," Jay said, reaching out his hand to help his friend up.
"That was mean," Carlos frowned, getting up.
"I know," Jay grinned. "But it's not my fault you tripped. And besides, it was Mal's
idea."
"This is UNEXCEPTABLE!" Lady Tremaine shouted. "I will lock the door and you will stay here until tomorrow. NO food and NO water and NO seeing your family for a whole day, unless you start acting like human beings!" The first years began to cry, but Mal was unmoved.
"It's not like I want to see my mom anyway. And I still have candy in my pocket," she muttered.
"Just be quiet," Evie begged. "For the sake of the poor first years."
"I don't care about the first years," Mal replied.
"Oh, just shut up," Jay said, for he actually wanted to train now. But just as Lady Tremaine lifted a sword to begin, the sharp, screeching sound of the bell rang out through the school. Class was over.
